She's so underrated. Any gossip or stories about her?

I don’t think she’s underrated. She’s yet to give the epic, serious performance she’s obviously capable of, imo.

I find her one note and over the age of 35, often annoying. She has some good roles now and then.

But it’s a PERFECT NOTE, R5. Range is NOT a virtue, despite what uppity fans and critics think.
As for an epic, serious performance: her arc on Louie was one of the best performances in TV history, and no one is allowed to disagree with me on that.

Years ago, I watched the TV movie she did with Shirley MacLaine about Mary K and I thought she was great (as far as her post-90s indie arthouse queen reign goes).
I’m excited for her to play Freda Black. She has a crazy life story and I think Posey will do the part justice.
I’m not a Ari Aster fan, but I recognise how in-demand he is and it’s cool she has a role in his latest film.
I would love to see her collaborate with Mike White. I feel like they’re from the same food group.

She’s cringe in everything I have seen her in but she’s pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 16, 2021 7:36 AM |
She was pretty epic in Hal Hartley’s Henry Fool. The deadpan style with that undercurrent of sadness fit her perfectly.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 16, 2021 7:51 AM |

I am a huge Parker Posey fan. I think she’s fantastic. I’ve admired her work ever since “Party Girl”.
Parker, myself and a friend hung out one time, only for an hour or two, at the old Tuesday night Beige Party at B Bar on the Lower East Side, early 2000s. So much fun!

"Party Girl" was one of my favorite movies eons ago.
Last time I watched it, I didn't think it held up that well, but she was very good in it.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 16, 2021 5:20 PM |
I've shared this story a few times on DL, but it never gets any traction. I was an invited guest of film producers at Sundance in 2017. Parker was staying in the same chalet (probably 9 of us total). It's very different being in the same home with someone for x4 days (x2 of those we were all snowed in,) v having a few drinks with them in a bar randomly. I can't say she wasn't nice, but she would essentially ice all of us out after arranged social functions until she was ready to reappear. Then she would sashay in the kitchen or living room and semi-holler, "Parker is here!" We all just kind of went with it, because she's Parker Fucking Posey, But I remember asking the guy who brought me as a guest what the fuck was going on with her. Her dog (who has since passed away) also made x3 other dogs in the house deathly ill. All that to say, she did do a cucumber eye mask with me by the fireplace one night. (Hi, Parker, if you're reading this!)

what traction would you expect for the anecdote?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 16, 2021 5:56 PM |
R56 People begging him for details, I guess?
Parker is okay, but I can't believe she managed to lose Busy Bee. If she hadn't, Beatrice would have taken Best in Show, because those other dogs were fat-ass losers. Freaks!
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 16, 2021 6:13 PM |
Hmmm. I've always thought she was overrated.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 16, 2021 6:18 PM |
In her book and stuff she often seems to be short of money. Maybe the type of films she makes don't pay well. She lives in what seems to be a very ordinary one bedroom apt in the West Village. I may be way off target but this is what I gather.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 16, 2021 6:21 PM |
Did Parkey ever scissor with Chloë Sevigny? Or, did they avoid each other at events?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 16, 2021 6:29 PM |
Parker and Chloe were friends and used to live in the same apartment building. I don’t know if they still are friends.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 16, 2021 7:07 PM |
Also, for the person upthread who surmised she has trouble with money—indie films really, really don’t pay much. Chloe has been in the same boat for most of her career, but like Parker she’s occasionally been in larger, mainstream productions. Unlike Parker, Chloe has consistently done modeling and gotten endorsement deals (I don’t know if ‘endorsement’ is the word for it) throughout her career, which have paid way, way more than the independent film work she’s done.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 16, 2021 7:10 PM |
Bizarre ^^^
That is a very, VERY loose impression of Chloe.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 16, 2021 7:25 PM |
Parker and Chloe are queens.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 16, 2021 7:29 PM |
She's the type of actress who always seems to do, more or less, what she wants. She's done a handful of paycheck movies here and there, but very few. I respect that.

Parker is way more attractive than Chloe.

She was great in Personal Velocity, Clockwatchers, and the House of Yes. She’s sort of the same in her movies—snarky, witty/banter-y and very cynical. But it fits to have a character like that in many movies, although usually as an ensemble or minor character.

by Anonymous | reply 83 | August 17, 2021 1:19 AM |
R54 here again...I had the chance to smoke some weed with Parker and Rory Culkin after their Sundance film premiere. Rory was definitely over the whole publicity charade (and he's tiny...smaller than me, and I'm 5'6"). Also, we were barred from taking pics of one with Parker in the chalet; we'd all been warned about this ahead of time by her agent. I did bring a 'Scream 3' DVD for her to sign for a sick friend, and she signed that on the last day whilst also signing Tori Tori Spelling's name simultaneously. She said she'd seen Tori sign her name so many times she knew how to sign it. And she actually did!
by Anonymous | reply 84 | August 17, 2021 3:09 AM |
R84 How tall is Parker?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | August 17, 2021 3:13 AM |
R84 here again...sorry for the typos. R85, Parker is probably about 5'5". She was wearing a lot of boots, so it was hard to tell. 'The Young Pope' had just premiered and we all watched that in the chalet while we were snowed in. Someone asked if she'd ever met Jude Law, and she said just in passing, but that she'd love to fuck him. In a living room full of gay men, we all laughed and seconded her.

Posey in Scream 3 is on my personal ballot for supporting actress that year. I'd have to review the contenders, but I might even give her the win.
Her chemistry with Courtney Cox is off-the-charts.

I have loved her since "Dazed and Confused." Fun sighting story: When I lived in Chelsea in the mid-90s, I saw her at the Books of Wonder children's book store. She was perched on a very high ladder (the legs folded out -- like a very tall step ladder -- so she could sit on top of it). She was sitting on the top step, reading books from the vintage book section -- and spreading out each book as she read it so that she cracked their bindings!! I was shocked because a) it was Parker Posey and she was right in front of me (although 20 feet in the air), and b) she was treating these antique books like they were magazines in a dentist's office! I'm sure she was just being an airhead and that she wasn't trying to destroy property. But still... She had fallen off her pedestal in my estimation (so to speak).

My only Parker Posey story, and I've told it here before:
When she was dating Ryan Adams in 2007, she came with him to my college town, when he was on tour with his group The Cardinals. I didn't go to the show, but a friend came into town to see it. We had dinner a few hours beforehand, and sat in the window alcove of a now defunct restaurant, just down the street from the venue.
My friend and I were catching up, when she noticed a familiar figure across the street. "Oh my god! It's Parker Posey!" she said. And it was indeed Parker Posey, walking up the street opposite us.
Part of me wanted to run after her, just to tell her how much I love her work (especially in "House Of Yes", & the Christopher Guest films), but more than that, I respect her and figured she gets that all the time. And I DID NOT want to queen out on FUCKING PARKER POSEY during what may have been her one and only ever trip to my home state. I have no regrets, but damn I wanted to meet her.
The linked article is a review of that May 2007 show, thrown in for fun.

Parker, you've been coming back too frequently. What is it with you and this obsessive need for validation on DL? At least break up your threads by a couple of years. For God's sake Gordon Lightfoot just died.
Have you done anything about your body odour issue yet? That would come a long way here.

Years ago, Gina Gershon played a rocker who resembled Chrissie, this was on a short-lived series. But Gina is actually also a rock singer, so it wasn't much of a stretch.
Parker could play Chrissie with the songs lip-synched,, she doesn't need to sing.

No mention of her in The Daytrippers? Her Woody Allen movies we can forget about it.

I love her, and the only bad thing I've ever heard about her was from someone who was next to her on a flight and said she had BO.

She played a great Dr. Smith on Lost in Space, - wacho selfish, manipulative nutjob Dr. Smith, not the silly queen with back problems from the 60's.

Will we be getting a Parker Posey wig reveal? She looks great in wigs(e.g. Lost In Space).

Parker would make a good Marianne Williamson. I would love to see here in a dark version of that. The Bitch From God.
