Sam Reid IS Lestat!

Not impressed with this casting. Would need to see his nips to complete judgement.

It appears he’s already in his pale make-up

by Anonymousreply 1August 13, 2021 4:27 PM

I can’t imagine the nipples will impress.

Seems reasonable casting. Certainly better than Miss Tammy in the movie.

by Anonymousreply 3August 13, 2021 4:34 PM

How tall is he?

Did they do a chemistry test with whomever will play Louis or the nut Nicholas?

by Anonymousreply 4August 13, 2021 4:35 PM

Not a bad choice.

by Anonymousreply 5August 13, 2021 4:36 PM

Why is in whenever there's a white celebrity mentioned someone has to mention they're pale? They're white, dude.

by Anonymousreply 6August 13, 2021 4:38 PM

At least they didn't cast someone ugly. Sam Reid was hot in 'The Riot Club,' especially when he poured champagne into Max Irons's mouth.

by Anonymousreply 7August 13, 2021 4:39 PM

What’s with this endless supply of statuesque blond hunks down under?

by Anonymousreply 8August 13, 2021 4:41 PM

I'd pull his pants down and do some sucking myself!

by Anonymousreply 9August 13, 2021 4:41 PM

Much too old!

Sam Reid is 34 years old already. Lestat was turned in his early 20s. This actor will look ancient by the time they have finished a few seasons.

by Anonymousreply 10August 13, 2021 4:44 PM

I don't know. He's quite attractive (I think it's mostly his voice) but I cannot really imagine him as Lestat.

Louis is going to be a brother.

Loved him as the sexy love rat in "Tennison." Will have to check him out in a Marple and some "MI-5".

But a vampire? Not a fan of the Undead.

by Anonymousreply 13August 14, 2021 10:36 AM

This was a lousy movie. River Phoenix offed himself while filming was still going on. I can see why.

Louis as a creole brothel owner instead of a white plantation owner... Hm, I don't know. I mean I get why having a slave-owning rich guy as the protagonist would be considered "problematic" in 2021 BUT, at the same time, it raises the question why bother adapting Interview with the Vampire at all.

Generally, I don't mind them making superficial changes (like the ethnicity of superhero characters). I'm currently in the process of rereading Interview, however, and this will simply change Louis to another character altogether.

If true, I think that the series will have lost me as a potential viewer.

by Anonymousreply 15August 14, 2021 11:33 AM

It will gain me as a viewer is Sam shows his ass and cock!

by Anonymousreply 16August 14, 2021 11:51 AM

I was a huge fan of the first few books, and I’m fine with this Louis change. He’s a secondary character after the first book, anyway.

I hope this is a big hit so they will do an adaptation of my favorite Rice book, The Witching Hour.

by Anonymousreply 17August 14, 2021 12:07 PM

[quote]Louis as a creole brothel owner instead of a white plantation owner... Hm, I don't know. I mean I get why having a slave-owning rich guy as the protagonist would be considered "problematic" in 2021

True, but how is being a seller of women's flesh any better in 2021? Louis of the books is austere, reserved, introverted, about as far as you can get from this new incarnation--and that's part of the chemistry he has with Lestat, who's a much more outgoing, rip-roaring personality. Yin and yang.

When this project was announced I had hopes we would FINALLY get a decent adaptation of the Vampire Chronicles, but they just can't keep from 'fixing' what isn't broken.

by Anonymousreply 18August 14, 2021 12:17 PM

Why can't they just do a faithful adaptation of the book?

by Anonymousreply 19August 14, 2021 5:36 PM

I’ll sound like a bitch for saying it but give me a fucking break😡

Can’t believe they would make that change.

Whoever said Louis was a minor character after the first book is right, but, c’mon.

I’m with you, R19.

by Anonymousreply 20August 14, 2021 5:58 PM

A fucking brothel owner???

WTF??

Part of his appeal was that he was kind and devoted to his family and he oversaw the running of the plantation. Yes, he was tormented by his brothers’ death but that was what drew Lestat to him.

An older Daniel?? Again, WTF? He goes on his adventure with Armand and they become eternal companions. Who wants to be an external companion with an old dude?

The more I’m reading about this the more disappointing it gets. And still, once again, no true adaptation to these damn books. Fuck Anne Rice if she’s the person wanting these changes.

by Anonymousreply 21August 14, 2021 6:05 PM

^^eternal^^

by Anonymousreply 22August 14, 2021 6:12 PM

Louis is not a minor character in the first book! He's the one telling the story to the interviewer. There's the whole section of the novel in Paris where Lestat is absent.

Louis is definitely a minor character in other novels. He basically makes an extended cameo in the second book near the end and a few appearances in The Tale of the Body Thief.

Not liking the new version of Louis for the series, but hopefully the actor will be better than Pitt who was dull and inept - he can't play an introverted character at all. Cruise was bad too, but at least he was lively.

by Anonymousreply 23August 14, 2021 6:19 PM

Oh I thought this was going to be good but a brothel owner? So he owns women but owning slaves is “bad”. Makes sense. Scrap the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 24August 14, 2021 6:33 PM

Damn, he looks hot as hell at r2

by Anonymousreply 25August 15, 2021 3:38 AM

R18 This is offensive to women. Are they trying to attract a male audience only? Looks like it's going to be a flop.

by Anonymousreply 26August 15, 2021 3:53 AM

Why does Hollywood have to fuck with stories that don't need to be changed? There is nothing wrong with Interview With the Vampire, it's a very compelling story as it is and doesn't need any changing. Fuck this is maddening.

by Anonymousreply 27August 15, 2021 3:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 29August 15, 2021 4:55 AM

Just be glad that they didn’t cast a trans man for the role.

They still get some woke points on Twitter for replacing a slave owner with pimp, but hey it’s only women.

by Anonymousreply 30August 15, 2021 5:11 AM

R17 Indeed. I want Taltos.

by Anonymousreply 31August 15, 2021 5:15 AM

Damn, the Russians and freepers never miss a chance to bitch about "woke" shit do they? Hardly any transmen are cast in anything....what a stupid thing to complain about.

by Anonymousreply 32August 15, 2021 5:16 AM

Sam is way too fucking old for Lestat, the brat prince.

by Anonymousreply 33August 15, 2021 5:19 AM

R3: clip #3 is amazing (pulling down shorts). Thanks for sharing👍 I am fine with him as Lestat. However, I don't know about the Louis changes... I read all the books/loved the movie and major changes would throw off the whole IWTV story. However, if Louis is hot, I might give it a go for the visuals, only if it keeps the gay subtext+

by Anonymousreply 34August 15, 2021 5:27 AM

I meant R2

by Anonymousreply 35August 15, 2021 5:28 AM

He has a watery attractiveness but it does not read as vampire. Maybe with the production design it will be rather translucent and ghastly but still pretty.

by Anonymousreply 36August 15, 2021 5:56 AM

Won't they have to start The Mayfair Witches as well? Cause David and The useless Talamasca turn up in Book 3.

by Anonymousreply 37August 15, 2021 6:07 AM

^ Well Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt didn't exactly scream "vampire" either

by Anonymousreply 38August 15, 2021 6:00 PM

Tom Cruise had the teeth of a vampire before his makeover

by Anonymousreply 39August 15, 2021 6:03 PM

The problem with casting younger actors is that they lack the maturity and life experience needed to play characters who have been alive for over a century, at least.

by Anonymousreply 40August 15, 2021 6:21 PM

He's in his 30s, it's not like he's 19

by Anonymousreply 41August 15, 2021 6:56 PM

He needs to do serious nudity, cock and arse. He's gorgeous!

by Anonymousreply 42August 15, 2021 6:58 PM

He was in that terrible Australian TV show about nuns on an island with Ann Dowd, right?

by Anonymousreply 43August 15, 2021 7:01 PM

[quote]The problem with casting younger actors is that they lack the maturity and life experience needed to play characters who have been alive for over a century, at least.

In Interview, only Louis has to have that range.

Lestat only shows up in the past and he wasn't a vampire for a long time there. Heck, he even had his blind father living with him in the novel. By the time, they'd arrive at The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned, the actor playing Lestat would have matured quite a bit.

by Anonymousreply 44August 15, 2021 7:11 PM

Aaron Tveit circa Les Miz would have been a perfect Lestat

Agree.

by Anonymousreply 47August 16, 2021 9:09 PM

LOL, you've obviously never had the task of adapting a book to the screen. You HAVE to change things. If you want something that's exactly like the book....just stick with the book

And it's not like Anne Rice is Faulkner or something. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 48August 16, 2021 9:12 PM

r48 this is a major change and was totally unnecessary. The plot of the book is just fine as it is.

by Anonymousreply 49August 16, 2021 9:18 PM

[quote]And it's not like Anne Rice is Faulkner or something. Seriously.

The Sound and the Fury was a fucking chore to get through.

Just because a story isn't literary doesn't mean it can't be good and compelling. Interview With the Vampire is a great story and no changes were needed.

by Anonymousreply 50August 16, 2021 9:19 PM

I think Lestat should be played by a European actor.

I adore Sam Reid, but I hated both the book and movie of Interview with the Vampire, and so have less than zero intention of watching this. Wish he was in something more interesting.

by Anonymousreply 55August 25, 2021 7:10 PM

R55 I love Sam Reid too. Yeah, his career back in the early 2010s seemed to be on the verge of taking off but then never really went anywhere. There is another thread dedicated to him on DL and apparently he moved back to Australia permanently a few years ago. I wonder if this new Interview With A Vampire is filming in the US or Australia?

by Anonymousreply 56August 25, 2021 8:20 PM

The book was very entertaining. I hate that they've changed it. The book should be filmed as is, it doesn't need any major changes.

by Anonymousreply 57August 25, 2021 8:42 PM

Louis in the book is a plantation owner, and after he was turned into a vampire he and Lestat fed on the slaves. I would bet money that the showrunners just DON'T want to got there in the current cultural climate, hence the complete change of the character of Louis to this.

by Anonymousreply 58August 25, 2021 8:44 PM

Damn. I was hoping for Regé-Jean Page as Louis, not Grey Worm.

by Anonymousreply 59August 25, 2021 8:46 PM

How gay is the new show going to be? Or are they going to do what the movie did and cut all the homoerotic undertones from the novel. The only reason I'd watch is if Sam Reid has intense gay love scenes.

by Anonymousreply 60August 25, 2021 8:47 PM

I recall that thread, r56. The consensus seemed to be that Sam was a) gay and b) introverted...and as such had trouble adjusting to the invasive media coverage of his chosen profession. I'd like to think that he decamped back to Australia to heal and recharge himself and this is the beginning of an even more illustrious chapter to his career.

by Anonymousreply 61August 25, 2021 8:57 PM

R61 I think the jury is still out on Sam's sexuality. Apparently, he's been in a relationship (or at least was) with Aussie actress Philippa Northeast for a couple years, but there has also been rumours about him being with men too, so maybe he swings both ways?

by Anonymousreply 62August 25, 2021 9:12 PM

I suspect he's far down the list, but Reid is the actor I would most like to see take on James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves the series. Reid is physically appealing, looks good in a suit, and is young so can play the role for at least a decade, if not longer.

by Anonymousreply 63August 25, 2021 9:32 PM

R63 Probably very far down the list because I doubt the next Bond is going to be white.

by Anonymousreply 64August 25, 2021 9:35 PM

R64 is the white victimhood troll

by Anonymousreply 65August 25, 2021 9:43 PM

He came off vaguely gay in the only thing I've seen him in. No bad thing for Lestat.

by Anonymousreply 66August 25, 2021 9:58 PM

R65 Actually I'm not white you idiot! I'm just stating a fact that's be discussed in the press for the last two years, that MGM would prefer if the next Bond to be a person of color.

by Anonymousreply 67August 25, 2021 10:20 PM

R167, no, that's not true. They have said they are "open" to a non-white Bond, that's not the same thing as saying they will definitely cast someone non-white.

by Anonymousreply 68August 25, 2021 10:27 PM

Do we have to turn this thread into another debate about race?

Can we focus on the important things like is Sam Reid cut or uncut? Is his bush as ginger as his hair?

by Anonymousreply 69August 25, 2021 10:56 PM

Maybe too on the nose, but I think Cody Fern could do a good job. Lestat has that bisexual energy

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 70August 25, 2021 11:02 PM

Yes Cody Fern would have been excellent as Lestat.

When I think of Lestat I want someone with very sensual eyes and lips, someone maybe more physically slight than the average Hollywood hunk. Too old for the role now but Logan Marshall Green comes to mind.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 71August 25, 2021 11:22 PM

Sam is a fantastic actor and I'm sure he'll be good in the role, but isn't Lestat supposed to be 25 or something? Sam is attractive but he looks like a guy in his 30s.

by Anonymousreply 72August 25, 2021 11:49 PM

Sam looks like Lestat with blond hair and grey eyes but the guy cast as Louis is biracial and looks nothing like the character.

by Anonymousreply 73August 26, 2021 12:34 AM

Louis is French with green eyes and dark hair so Harry Styles should have played him.

by Anonymousreply 74August 26, 2021 12:38 AM

The most important question: Will there be male frontal nudity?

by Anonymousreply 75August 26, 2021 12:44 AM

Oh and let’s please not forget the hot Stuart Townsend in The Queen of the damned.

I freaking adored this movie with Stuart in it.

R60: Actually, the IWTV movie was very homoerotic.

by Anonymousreply 78August 28, 2021 1:08 AM

Why does every piece of entertainment have to be so fucking political now? It's a great story that should've been left alone and filmed the way it was written.

by Anonymousreply 79August 28, 2021 1:51 AM

I've never lost interest so fast in a series...

by Anonymousreply 80August 28, 2021 6:15 PM

Can't we have one motherfucking tv show where the two lead actors are ***GASP** white males? There are 500 other tv shows to watch if this is too triggering for people. JFC.

by Anonymousreply 81August 28, 2021 6:20 PM

R81 I'm British so I'm not sure if this is true in the US but here in the UK most of our broadcasters have diversity clauses meaning shows have a certain ratio of racial and gender diversity to be produced.

by Anonymousreply 82August 28, 2021 6:58 PM

R81 is obviously triggered by the fact that non-white people exist. Go back to your Klan meeting

by Anonymousreply 83August 28, 2021 7:12 PM

R81 Nah, you either got it or you don’t in this town. Race plays no favourites here. It’s all about the hotness and or talent.

by Anonymousreply 84August 28, 2021 7:14 PM

Did Anne Rice explicitly state that these characters were all white in her novels? I don't think she did.

Anyways, you American are so obsessed with race. Every thread devolves into something about white people vs people of colour.

This thread is about Sam Reid. I just want to talk about important shit like is his dick cut, or has he presented hole to get roles.

by Anonymousreply 85August 28, 2021 7:43 PM

'Did Anne Rice explicitly state that these characters were all white in her novels? I don't think she did.'

Yes. Lestat is explicitly described as white with blond hair and blue eyes, Louis with black hair and green eyes. Both have white alabaster vampire skin.

by Anonymousreply 86August 28, 2021 9:58 PM

Sam Reid looks exactly like Lestat in the novels. A much better choice than Tom Cruise who played him in the 1994 movie of Interview with the Vampire. A young and delicious long haired Brad Pitt played Louis.

r83 this is a forty-plus year old story with a huge following. It's not something was just created yesterday. The Vampire Chronicles have an established mythology. It's about totally changing the source material into something that does not in any way resemble anything about the novels.

by Anonymousreply 90August 29, 2021 3:28 AM

Rice did include black vampires later on but not in Interview or The Vampire Lestat, the first two novels.

by Anonymousreply 91August 29, 2021 10:41 AM

He can act, but I've never thought Sam Reid was handsome. It's the combination of the milk-pale ruddy complexion, the lazy eye, and the pronounced overbite that he constantly purses in dramatic scenes. He's always reminded me of a paler, pointier David Thewlis.

by Anonymousreply 93July 30, 2022 7:50 AM

Sam Reid is gorgeous. Y'all crazy

by Anonymousreply 94July 30, 2022 7:40 PM

They’ve changed so, so much about the fucking story it’s almost unrecognizable.

I might hate watch.

by Anonymousreply 95July 30, 2022 7:56 PM

I've had a crush on Sam Reid since he was in that movie Belle. As while I'm excited to see him (finally) do a proper homo-sex scene, this looks like crap. More woke nonsense that doesn't stay true to the novel.

by Anonymousreply 96July 30, 2022 10:31 PM

You know r96 is a Log Cabinette with the whining about "woke" stuff (which basically means "I don't want movies and TV to acknowledge that non-white people exist." Even though his fellow Republicans feel the same way about movies and shows with gay content. That's "woke" to them)

by Anonymousreply 103October 6, 2022 8:08 PM

r101 New veneers, new muscles, bearded up with his longtime friend... all just before the promo push for the show started. The boy is fully ready for Hollywood and hungry as hell for it.

by Anonymousreply 104October 7, 2022 7:53 AM

Sam Heughan could take some pointers. Reid is better looking, has a better body, is a better actor, and better at bearding than Heughan.

by Anonymousreply 105October 7, 2022 8:54 AM

I don't think Sam Reid is more handsome. He's looking a little Zac Efron in the jawline. His hair is holding on better than Heughan's, though.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 106October 7, 2022 9:16 AM

R105 Reid is legit not gay unlike Heughan. Reid was dating Philippa Northeast ( a little known Aussie actress) for a few years, I'm unsure if they're still together, but they were very low-key about it...wasn't a bearding thing. That being said, I suspect Reid is probably bi because based on his kissing scenes with in both Interview and an Aussie show called Newsreader, he's had to have kissed some men in his life.

by Anonymousreply 107November 7, 2022 6:30 AM

Sam Reid was talked about here years ago. Someone Londoner fucked him while he was studying there.

R108 Is referring to the old Sam Reid thread that started after he starred in Belle nearly a decade ago now. Yes, someone (a man) claimed to have had sex with Sam when he was living in London. That being said, a simple google search will reveal that Sam has had a number of girlfriends (most of whom were not actresses) so at the very least he is bisexual. There was rumours several years ago, however, that he and Douglas Booth were fucking for a while.
