V - 1983 teaser

Does anyone else remember this mini series?

by Anonymousreply 220April 28, 2022 3:38 AM

I watched this after my uncle got me the DVD. I loved it.

by Anonymousreply 1August 12, 2021 1:26 AM

Yes. Dominique should have lived to play Robin.

by Anonymousreply 2August 12, 2021 1:27 AM

It was one of my favourite mini-series! It had a sequel as well I remember because the original got high ratings. I was so excited when a weekly show was announced, but the series never stood up to what the mini-series delivered unfortunately. Jeff Yagher and Marc Singer were so hot!

by Anonymousreply 3August 12, 2021 1:29 AM

Yes. We didn’t have a TV at the time (ours broke and my mother decided we had better ways to use our time so she didn’t replace it for years!) and the kids on the school bus plied me with graphic descriptions of the lady eating a rat and the forked tongues of the alien people.

Or something like that. Apparently they were cool special effects.

by Anonymousreply 4August 12, 2021 1:30 AM

A true remake would be awesome. And if they set it during the 80s, even better.

by Anonymousreply 5August 12, 2021 1:33 AM

Diana was an Uber lizard cunt.

Loved her!

by Anonymousreply 6August 12, 2021 1:34 AM

Jeff Yager was super hot. I agree, the TV series started strong, but once they cut the budge (thanks to ratings not high enough being opposite Dallas) the show suffered in quality. Strangely, it became about Donovan and Diana instead of the obvious Julie vs Diana, both the leaders. You could also tell the new regime tried to make it about the men. The Ham actor quit. They stupidly started decreasing the Juliet characters screen time (literally the leader of the Resistance! The star, with Donovan, of the series) to where the actress was going to quit for Season 2. I read they were actually going to vaporize JULIET PARRISH and move on. Fuck that.

The mini-series, both of them, were fucking great.

by Anonymousreply 7August 12, 2021 1:36 AM

It was notable that both of the strongest characters were women. Both were leaders. Both were scientists. Both were good with military strategy. Kenneth Johnson wanted it that way for a reason. He didn’t want it about male vs male.

by Anonymousreply 8August 12, 2021 1:41 AM

Terribly sad that Dominique Dunne was murdered during filming of this TV miniseries. She was so passionate about this project.

by Anonymousreply 9August 12, 2021 1:43 AM

RATS!

by Anonymousreply 10August 12, 2021 1:45 AM

Loved it. It’s a shame the tv series was really doomed from the start. It was too expensive and they gave it a terrible time slot. They really missed so many opportunities to reboot it early. There was a lot of interest. It was always talked about but for one reason or another it never got the green light. K Johnson wanted a movie and at one point it so would have worked. Right after Independence Day. Yes, some would have said it was a rip off, but it would have made killer box office.

by Anonymousreply 11August 12, 2021 2:09 AM

It was a great 80's TV movie. The networks should invest in these kind of storytelling, again.

by Anonymousreply 12August 12, 2021 2:23 AM

I watched it when it was on but would miss the last hour every night due to my bedtime.

I missed the iconic “Diana eats the rat” scene but heard about it the next day at school.

by Anonymousreply 13August 12, 2021 2:29 AM

R10 Why do the face special effects look worse in the 2010 reboot?

by Anonymousreply 14August 12, 2021 2:38 AM

Kenneth Johnson quit during the sequel mini series. He talks about all the stuff he would have done and how horrible he heard how it turned out, but once you walk away from the project you don’t get to pretend how great your version would have turned out. He owns the movie rights and now realizes it’s his only viable property at his advanced age to try to produce. He wants to ignore everything after the first mini series which is a big slap in the face of fans.

by Anonymousreply 15August 12, 2021 2:59 AM

A Television Event! loved it as a teen.

by Anonymousreply 16August 12, 2021 3:00 AM

R15 I think what he put into the sequel was likely the best elements. As much as I love the sequel, I think his version would have been better. I think he shouldn’t ignore the sequel (if he actually got something off the ground), he can find a way to not ignore it. He doesn’t have to make it a part of his world, but he would have to at least mention some key elements like the red dust and Elizabeth (she could have died).

I think they need to re-do it on Netflix, then have him do his 20 (I’d do 30) years later with some of the original actors.

by Anonymousreply 17August 12, 2021 3:10 AM

R5 The remake got canned after two overly long seasons. They didn't learn anything from the first show.

My grandparents loved this!

by Anonymousreply 19August 12, 2021 3:20 AM

I watched it on the UK SYFY channel last week, still waiting for 'The Final Battle' episode.

by Anonymousreply 20August 12, 2021 3:23 AM

It was awful at the time, but part of me would like to revisit when they just gave up, cast June Chadwick as the blonde alien, and turned it into "Dynasty in Space."

by Anonymousreply 21August 12, 2021 3:23 AM

Diana was actually acting a guinea pig in the clip above. IIRC it was during some reception for high-ranking Visitors and she put out only the most luxurious rodents for the guests, No rats on the menu that night!

by Anonymousreply 22August 12, 2021 3:33 AM

Let’s get to the good stuff.

by Anonymousreply 23August 12, 2021 3:38 AM

If Netflix remade the original V miniseries it could be amazing!!!

by Anonymousreply 24August 12, 2021 3:40 AM

The mini-series was SO good. It's impressive that so many people still remember it after all this time. The birth of the twins was just fantastic television. First the reveal of the normal looking baby having the reptile eyes and forked tongue and then...the birth of the second baby! Wow.

by Anonymousreply 25August 12, 2021 3:53 AM

The 2010 remake showed just how much interest was there. It debuted with really high ratings, then they ran a short season (I forgot why), killed all momentum, and returned having lost steam. It was confusing and not near as compelling as the original. Elizabeth Mitchell was supposed to be the Julie character and Mrs.Benjamin was supposed to be the Diana character, but Diana showed up, but she wasn’t really THAT Diana.

With all the craziness happening today here, it could work. I would want Ken Johnson involved. He had a vision. I think *perhaps* The Final Battle wouldn’t have been as fun if he had total control, but he knows how to tell a story well.

R21 That was after they cut the budget, downgraded Julie, Michael Ironside quit, they wrote out a ton of characters, and needed a distraction. The show’s quality plummeted.

by Anonymousreply 26August 12, 2021 3:53 AM

It is utterly shocking they never got, what was clearly in demand, a reboot in the 90s or 00s. Then when they finally do, they bungle it beyond comprehension. WHY have all new characters? Why have a new story?

Every time they are about to move forward, some really crazy bad luck happens. Warner Bros fucking sucks, too.

by Anonymousreply 27August 12, 2021 4:26 AM

The best thing about the reboot was Morena Baccarin as Anna (the new leader). She looked fantastic at all times. It also didn't hurt having Scott Wolf in the cast and Mark Hildreth was really hot as the alien doctor.

by Anonymousreply 28August 12, 2021 4:32 AM

Freddy Kruger was in this

by Anonymousreply 29August 12, 2021 4:39 AM

The original V miniseries is one of the best things ever. Very suspenseful and for science fiction it has an unusual "real world" feel to it, which is rare in that genre. It is excellent.

The second miniseries was also well-done but it did have some cheesy 80s moments. The weekly series that followed and only lasted one season was absolute shit.

by Anonymousreply 30August 12, 2021 4:51 AM

Dominique Dunne would have made the perfect Robin. She was so good

by Anonymousreply 31August 12, 2021 4:53 AM

It was so creepy and chilling when the real reason for the aliens' journey to Earth was revealed.

by Anonymousreply 32August 12, 2021 4:55 AM

I had a crush on Martin, and Brian was cute, too.

by Anonymousreply 33August 12, 2021 5:01 AM

This definitely needs a reboot on Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 34August 12, 2021 5:03 AM

The TV series was good for the first 1/3 of the season. After that, you could tell they were making changes. And not good changes.

by Anonymousreply 35August 12, 2021 5:04 AM

That was my favorite series at the time.

WHET Michael Wright?

by Anonymousreply 36August 12, 2021 5:08 AM

I posted above about my Uncle getting me the DVDs. The TV series was really good and then BAM it started to suck. It had such potential.

by Anonymousreply 37August 12, 2021 5:10 AM

Marc singer was 🥵

by Anonymousreply 38August 12, 2021 5:13 AM

We once had a poster who worked as a crew member on V and he had some good stories.

by Anonymousreply 39August 12, 2021 5:17 AM

People got excited for the 2010 reboot, but they started it with no ties to the original. Seems they were hoping this could be the next Lost.

By the time they brought back the original Diana, people had lost interest

by Anonymousreply 40August 12, 2021 5:18 AM

Any dirt? R39?

by Anonymousreply 41August 12, 2021 5:23 AM

r41 I remember he said the actors were disappointed that the series was such crap, coming off of the two acclaimed miniseries. Marc Singer was an asshole and a diva. Jane Badler and Faye Grant were nice. If that poster is still around, hopefully he'll see this thread.

Jane Badler's had a ton of work done, but she still looks pretty good. She's lived in Australia for decades, her husband is from one of the richest families in the country. She tragically lost her son to an overdose last year. Check out her Instagram...

by Anonymousreply 42August 12, 2021 5:31 AM

I’ve heard (visiting V boards in the 00s) that Badler and Grant were very nice.

Michael Ironside quit the series abruptly in the middle. While the show was still good when he quit, he knew what was coming. Grant was going to quit as they insanely were sacrificing one of the mini-series most important characters.

by Anonymousreply 43August 12, 2021 11:53 AM

R32 what was the reason?

by Anonymousreply 44August 12, 2021 2:45 PM

I loved this show as a kid. Used to rent it all the time from the video store. And of course i had a crush on Kyle. I also liked the dynamic between Mike and Diana. Too bad it's seen as problematic nowadays.

by Anonymousreply 45August 12, 2021 2:59 PM

[quote][R32] what was the reason?

Humans were going to be food.

by Anonymousreply 46August 12, 2021 3:08 PM

The skull in the sand is very striking. Loved the show, but I don't remember seeing that before.

by Anonymousreply 47August 12, 2021 3:21 PM

The original series was very, very good. The special effects were effective (those shuttle craft flying overhead with corresponding shadows on the ground), the slow, education of children (the Nazi overtones were chilling) and the big reveal of rodent eating and how humans were food and the aliens were sucking Earth dry of water.

The sequel mini-series was good, but wandered into campy territory over those hours and the weekly TV show really did not work.

But man, the original? Wonderful. I wwas in college when it premiered - we were shocked when Diana swallowed the rat whole!

by Anonymousreply 48August 12, 2021 3:23 PM

I loved this show - recently rewatched both mini series on Amazon Prime.

As a young gayling I loved Diana and thought she was the fiercest bitch in the universe. I even wrote to Jane Badler gushing as only a ten year old gay boy could. About a month later a large manila envelope arrived at the house. Inside was a glossy 8x10 photo signed personally to me from Jane herself. For that, she’ll always have a special place in my heart.

by Anonymousreply 49August 12, 2021 3:36 PM

V was the hottest sci-fi mini series in the 80s on prime time. Jane Jane Badler/ Diana was the reason I watched it.. And of course Marc Singer was HoTT along with Faye Grant. They all. carried the show well. And I thought it was a head of its time as well. The concept I mean.

by Anonymousreply 50August 12, 2021 3:48 PM

I LOVED the "V" miniseries as a kid (and still do). Pretty sure I still have old Beta (!) tapes of it somewhere.

I also still have autographed photos from Jane Badler, Faye Grant and Blair Tefkin (the nicest of them all), which I received after writing them fan letters -- sent via snail mail. I think there's one from Marc Singer, as well.

by Anonymousreply 51August 12, 2021 3:57 PM

That is quite a pristine, HD remaster in the OP's trailer. It looks gorgeous — way clearer and better than we could ever get on TV in the '80s.

I wonder if someone has remastered and wide-screened the whole series in 4k or something?

That might almost be worth watching. You lose a bunch of the original image when you widescreen old TV shows like that, though.

by Anonymousreply 52August 12, 2021 4:10 PM

This was an event back when it debuted. Everybody watched it.

It was one of TV's attempts to co-opt the massive success of Spielberg/Lucas-type movies on the small screen that worked. Probably because the cast involved every type of person and had real-world (i.e. Nazi) themes.

by Anonymousreply 53August 12, 2021 4:12 PM

I remember Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) being one of the 'good' aliens

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 54August 12, 2021 4:19 PM

INDEPENDENCE DAY was certainly a ripoff, r11, but not of V.

"Alien invasion" stories are a whole sub-genre of Sci Fi and Horror that goes back over 100 years to franchises like WAR OF THE WORLDS.

INDEPENDENCE DAY bears the most plagiaristic resemblance to 1956's EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS.

So V was not completely original, it was updating a long-standing tradition.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 55August 12, 2021 4:20 PM

Yes, this gave Robert Englund his first taste of stardom. It's really the only role besides Freddy that people remember him for.

Sorry, NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE!

by Anonymousreply 56August 12, 2021 4:24 PM

[quote] Probably because the cast involved every type of person and had real-world (i.e. Nazi) themes.

It showed people of all ages and at all levels of society, and how they reacted to the invasion. Some of them wanted to fight, yet others were willing collaborators because the aliens gave them power and prestige for cooperating.

What really stands out for me now is how back in those days you had a lot of actors who looked like regular people, they were totally convincing as people who really could be your next door neighbor. I don't think you have that in Hollywood anymore. Working actors today are all gorgeous and you don't really see the character actor types that were so prevalent in the past.

by Anonymousreply 57August 12, 2021 4:24 PM

I miss Dominique Dunne

by Anonymousreply 58August 12, 2021 4:28 PM

That remake in 2009 was so boring.

I checked out after like, 6 episodes. The naked bodybuilders for breeding was the best part about it.

by Anonymousreply 62August 12, 2021 7:13 PM

I can't imagine anyone else in the role of Robin but Blair Tefkin. She's such a great talent and really shines in this.

by Anonymousreply 63August 12, 2021 8:18 PM

[quote]I remember he said the actors were disappointed that the series was such crap, coming off of the two acclaimed miniseries. Marc Singer was an asshole and a diva. Jane Badler and Faye Grant were nice. If that poster is still around, hopefully he'll see this thread.

That was me. I wasn't on the crew but was on set a lot.

Singer was an asshole and a bully to Faye Grant. Everyone hated him. Faye, Jane Badler, Blair Tefkin and Jeff Yagher were nice (Jeff was incredibly handsome and totally straight).

Everyone loved Michael Ironside and looked to him as a leader even though he joined the cast late.

by Anonymousreply 64August 12, 2021 8:23 PM

Can you share any more stories, R64?

by Anonymousreply 65August 12, 2021 8:28 PM

Faye Grant was a wonderful actress. She basically gave up her career when she married Stephen Collins and we all know how that turned out. She should've kept acting.

by Anonymousreply 68August 12, 2021 10:52 PM

I enjoyed the series, but my favorite 80s mini series in the genre was 'The Martian Chronicles' with Rock Hudson.

by Anonymousreply 69August 12, 2021 11:00 PM

People complain about the 80s but threads like this reminds us how good the 80s were.

by Anonymousreply 70August 12, 2021 11:46 PM

Any times before the advent of the smartphone were great. Sure, the shopping sucked, but it was less evident that the country is overrun by the insane. Or maybe it was just that the US had mental health treatment back then??

by Anonymousreply 71August 12, 2021 11:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 72August 12, 2021 11:51 PM

I don’t think Marc Singer overacts in the video @ R60.

Fight scenes are always going to be intense. Most of what the video pokes fun of are clearly instructions from the director or script in which Marc had no choice.

I smell some Jealous Bitches.

by Anonymousreply 76August 13, 2021 12:09 AM

How did Marc bully Faye?

Faye was phenomenal as Julie. All three main characters- Julie, Diana, Donovan- were great. I found the rivalry b/w Julie and Diana more compelling than Diana/Donovan.

The only thing campy about The Final Battle was the star child. Everything else was highly entertaining, but not campy

by Anonymousreply 77August 13, 2021 12:35 AM

Anyone remember the little girl that look like Shirley Temple? She was so darling

by Anonymousreply 78August 13, 2021 1:01 AM

Remember the dykie blond girl? Polly I think? She was a good character I feel they dropped after it seems she was going to be a bigger player in the youth resistance.

by Anonymousreply 79August 13, 2021 1:03 AM

[quote]How did Marc bully Faye?

Like I said, I wasn't on the crew but was on the set a bit. I had the impression that Singer froze out Faye Grant because he thought he was the star, not a member of an ensemble. She was well-liked, so the rest of the cast didn't like him at all.

At that point the show's POV was changing week to week. Jeff Yagher was brought in for the young hunk quotient. Once Robin had the alien baby they didn't know what to do with Blair Tefkin. I never met Robert Englund (that I remember).

by Anonymousreply 80August 13, 2021 1:12 AM

Did you meet Dominique Dunne r80?

by Anonymousreply 81August 13, 2021 1:17 AM

R80 Oh that makes total sense. They totally iced out Julie and broke her and Donovan up. What an ass. You know, one of the last episodes of the series had Julie and Donovan pretending to be Visitor’s who looked like Julie and Donovan on board one of the mother ships. Faye was acting so out of character. She had total, “I don’t give a fuck” acting. She said one line, it was very sarcastic, very unlike Julie, and it all makes sense. She was already going to quit at that point. What an ass to fuck up such a major character. He hated JULIE was the resistance LEADER, not him.

by Anonymousreply 82August 13, 2021 1:18 AM

How did Jane and Faye get along? How much did Jane hate Marc?

The show became Donovan centric which was odd. Suddenly, he was the center of every show. I liked Donovan, but Julie was more interesting and it was more interesting as an ensemble.

by Anonymousreply 83August 13, 2021 1:20 AM

by Anonymousreply 86August 13, 2021 1:30 AM

[quote]How did Jane and Faye get along? How much did Jane hate Marc?

From what I can gather from social media, Jane is still quite close to Faye and Blair.

She appeared at DragonCon 2 years ago with Marc and Robert and seemed cool with Marc. I mean this is nearly 40 years later so I'm assuming whatever grudges she had have long dissipated.

by Anonymousreply 87August 13, 2021 1:30 AM

I was a kid at the time and I remember the scene of the naked humans stored in pods on the aliens' huge ship really freaked me out. That was pretty out there for network tv back then, with all the crazy censorship.

by Anonymousreply 88August 13, 2021 1:37 AM

He was also at her house when she died that night when they were rehearsing.

I know the aliens were advanced technologically, but I always wondered how they managed to get a lizard and a human to successfully mate.

by Anonymousreply 97August 13, 2021 2:25 AM

I would assume that's why they went with a virgin who was unfamiliar with sex and who didn't really know what to expect. Or maybe before he did stuff to her he put her in some kind of trance or something.

by Anonymousreply 98August 13, 2021 4:06 AM

R98, no, I meant the biology part. Lizard and human.

by Anonymousreply 99August 13, 2021 4:09 AM

Oh, sorry R99. I think Diana was doing experiments to try and mate a visitor and a human. Robin was picked because she was the "right type", but it's been forever since I've seen the series so I could be wrong. I think the other attempts ended badly. And didn't the Starchild have a twin who was a lizard?

I notice Faye never does these V meet ups, does she? You mean to tell me Julie, Diana, and Donovan have not been on the same stage at a convention since?

Faye didn’t deserve him pulling diva moves. She was the star Ken Johnson wanted her character to be. She was the leader- smart, strong, tactical. He was the muscle, though she did alright for herself in that dept. She developed the red dust which ended the initial war.

This tale needs to be told again.

by Anonymousreply 105August 13, 2021 5:13 AM

V definitely needs a limited series reboot on HBO Max or Netflix. It's such a powerful story and could easily be updated to the present day.

by Anonymousreply 106August 13, 2021 5:26 AM

In what ways would Marc bully Faye?

by Anonymousreply 107August 14, 2021 12:18 AM

I finally figured out who the guy in R84 is!! It had been bugging me ever since it was posted because his face immediately seemed very familiar to me. "Oh, I know that guy!" I was certain that he was an actor, and I had seen him in something....but I just couldn't place where (or remember his name) for the life of me.

I had a good laugh when it finally came to me today (it was only my favorite t.v. show). His name is Tim Ryan. He played, Natch, McMurphy's hot-shot pilot boyfriend on the first couple seasons of CHINA BEACH.

Not sure why he's in the photo at R84 because "V" is not listed in his credits. Maybe it was taken during an audition? Or his part was re-cast? Or ended up on the editing room floor?

by Anonymousreply 110August 15, 2021 11:36 PM

V was so freaking good.

by Anonymousreply 111August 17, 2021 12:04 PM

R104, are you thinking of THE TWILIGHT ZONE movie? It would have been roughly the same time period.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 112August 17, 2021 3:37 PM

I remember the scene with the birth of the twins. The "human" baby was born and everyone was oohing and aahing at how cute she was and then... see R101. What was surprising (but not really, given the story) was the alien baby was born with complications and began to suffer from them immediately upon birth. Only two or so of the people gathered (I think it was Willie the Visitor and the priest) wanting to save it while everyone else was basically "Eh, it's a Visitor baby - let it suffer and die".

Who could forget the worst actor in history, Marc Singer? There have been threads about it, so no, we haven't forgotten. It was good cheesy fun.

by Anonymousreply 114August 17, 2021 4:10 PM

R102 The Dominique Dunne troll is here. The greatest troll since Janbot. Fucking cunt.

by Anonymousreply 115August 17, 2021 4:12 PM

Marc Singer's a decent actor.

by Anonymousreply 116August 18, 2021 12:10 AM

He’s not bad but Faye Grant acted circles around him.

by Anonymousreply 117August 18, 2021 4:18 AM

This show brings back 7th/8th grade like no other. I missed the original broadcast & had to catch the repeat to see what all my classmates were raving about. Well worth it!

by Anonymousreply 118August 18, 2021 5:43 AM

I wish Dominique had lived. This would have been her breakout role

by Anonymousreply 119August 18, 2021 9:36 AM

As much as I loved Donovan, Julie and Diana were far more interesting. He was a bit of a stock tough guy. He has presence, though. But Faye and Jane were electric ( I know MARY). Even though Diana was a bit of a stock bad girl, Jane made it into something special. As for Julie, not many characters were like Juliet Parrish.

R119 10 trillion huge crucifixes right up your asscunt. Cunt.

by Anonymousreply 121August 18, 2021 2:33 PM

It was a huge hit in Spain back in the day and it's ingrained in popular culture even nowadays

by Anonymousreply 122August 18, 2021 2:37 PM

It is amazing how fondly V is remembered. For good reason. They’ve sadly been unable to reboot it even with a ton of interest. I don’t count the 2010 show called V since it had nothing to do with the original.

by Anonymousreply 123August 19, 2021 1:06 AM

The intro was so simple but awesome.

Dominique Dunne was very excited and proud of this project. Her Robin would have gotten an Emmy nomination at least

by Anonymousreply 125August 19, 2021 6:27 PM

Jesus, enough of the Dominique Dunn-stanning

by Anonymousreply 126August 19, 2021 6:52 PM

Credit for the success of V goes to writer/producer/director Kenneth Johnson. He was the brains behind so many science fiction shows such as The Incredible Hulk, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Alien Nation, and, of course, V.

If I remember correctly, Falcon Crest's Sarah Douglas was briefly in the series as Diana's superior. I loved her putdown of Diana being sent away millions of miles by her lover.

by Anonymousreply 128August 19, 2021 9:21 PM

Jane Badler was fantastic.

by Anonymousreply 129August 20, 2021 12:35 AM

The entire cast was pitch perfect. I particularly like Faye and Jane.

by Anonymousreply 130August 20, 2021 12:44 AM

R113, I know, right. The baby alien was cute in its own right. It was sad when it died.

by Anonymousreply 131August 20, 2021 4:31 AM

Who was the little girl ?

by Anonymousreply 132August 20, 2021 4:40 AM

Faye Grant never should've quit acting to marry that kiddie toucher. She was so talented and could've had a decent career.

by Anonymousreply 133August 20, 2021 4:43 AM

Who did she marry r133?

Faye Grant married Stephen Collins not too long after V and pretty much quit acting. About ten or so years ago it was revealed that Collins had exposed himself and possibly touched several adolescent girls over the years. Faye immediately divorced him.

Jane Badler looks really good for her age.....but she doesn't look anything like Jane Badler!

Why do these women screw up their faces so hideously with lip injections & cheek implants?? I will never understand this.

by Anonymousreply 140August 20, 2021 11:37 AM

R127... Alien Nation! Now there was a good adaptation of a film for TV. The movie's premise was excellent and the TV show got to play with and expand on the original script. Thanks for the reminder.

by Anonymousreply 141August 20, 2021 11:39 AM

R140 She looks great. She looks like Jane to me.

by Anonymousreply 144August 20, 2021 12:08 PM

Yes, I agree, she's gorgeous, fierce & very much "Jane" in photo R143.

But in photo R139 she looks like a plastic, old, lip-injected Real Housewife. That's the difference.

R135 I have questions:

Why were they in jail?

The human looking baby had a forked tongue and no one seemed too concerned about it??

Didn't the human looking baby have an accelerated growth, like she went from baby to teenager like overnight?

by Anonymousreply 147August 20, 2021 4:22 PM

[quote]Didn't the human looking baby have an accelerated growth, like she went from baby to teenager like overnight?

Yes. It was one of those plot points that didn't make much sense -- they wanted to have a half-human half-alien teenager, but she just ended up being a couple years younger than her mother.

by Anonymousreply 148August 20, 2021 6:09 PM

What role did David Packer play? Was he robin’s boyfriend?

by Anonymousreply 149August 20, 2021 6:11 PM

[quote]Why were they in jail?

They were using it as their headquarters.

[quote]What role did David Packer play? Was he robin’s boyfriend?

He played Robin's neighbor who was obsessed with her but she thought he was a creepy weirdo. He joined the Visitor Youth program as a collaborator but shit went down, the Visitors accused him of being a spy and he was served up for dinner.

by Anonymousreply 150August 20, 2021 6:59 PM

R150 Someone (Julie or Robin) sent info that Daniel (David Packer) was helping them, I think. The Visitors ate him.

by Anonymousreply 151August 20, 2021 11:03 PM

R150, packer was a weirdo after wimping out .

Faye and the dad from 7th Heaven were having an ugly divorce and then "somehow" a tape got leaked to the media of him in a therapy session admitting to flashing several little girls. Last I heard, he's living somewhere in the midwest and married to a 7th Heaven superfan.

R157 Both her and Faye seemed headed that way. Faye, well, we know what happened. She married a dick. How did Jane not get scooped up by a nighttime soap?

by Anonymousreply 158August 21, 2021 12:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 160August 21, 2021 1:28 AM

Loved V the mini-series. Loved the TV series too.

TV was great in the 70s and 80s when you had miniseries, and the next day at school everyone would talk about the latest episode.

by Anonymousreply 161August 21, 2021 1:30 AM

David Packer was hot asf. I wanted Daniel to fuck me silly.

David Packer's Wiki page doesn't provide any information about him after 2010 (he retired from acting?) and there's nothing about a personal life.

Not complaining, just making note.

by Anonymousreply 165August 21, 2021 11:24 AM

I can not reiterate Peter Nelson enough. The man was absolutely gorgeous. Everything about him was sexy as fuck. He looked way better than David Packer hands down.

by Anonymousreply 166August 21, 2021 12:24 PM

[Quote] and married to a 7th Heaven superfan.

They're a thing? Why would anyone admit that in public?

by Anonymousreply 167August 21, 2021 3:57 PM

Peter Nelson is an executive at Sony now.

by Anonymousreply 168August 21, 2021 3:58 PM

I wanted to like the 2009 remake but the Resistance was like 5 people only and they accomplished nothing in 23 episodes. They were outwitted every single time by the lizards. How long did they think they could run a series with heroes being such losers ?

by Anonymousreply 169August 21, 2021 5:38 PM

The reboot had nothing in common with the original. It wasn't good at all.

by Anonymousreply 170August 21, 2021 5:51 PM

R166 AGREED. He was gorgeous. I may have watched his all too brief shirtless scene on a loop.

by Anonymousreply 172August 21, 2021 6:55 PM

I was a kid when I first saw it and I think in high school when I heard the background that Johnson wanted to make a story about Nazi Germany but added the aliens when Star Wars was a massive success.

by Anonymousreply 173August 21, 2021 6:59 PM

I don’t like it when bad CGI is used in tv or movies. R171’s clip is an example. It takes you right out of the moment. Don’t use it if you can’t do special effects properly.

by Anonymousreply 174August 21, 2021 7:54 PM

R174 you're not wrong. It could've been so good.

by Anonymousreply 175August 21, 2021 7:56 PM

I loved how Diana was basically an alien Alexis Carrington

by Anonymousreply 176August 21, 2021 7:59 PM

That wasn’t a knock at you, R171. I appreciated your clip! The fake tail just ruins it for me. 🙂

by Anonymousreply 177August 21, 2021 8:42 PM

R177 I agree. I like the scene despite the shitty CGI. It could've been so much better!

by Anonymousreply 178August 21, 2021 9:55 PM

The remake was stupid with Anna trying to find the human soul and their fake skins infecting them with human emotion.

by Anonymousreply 179August 21, 2021 11:13 PM

I don't think i ever finished the reboot. Nor do i remember much except for the teenage son being into Laura Vandervoort's character 😄

by Anonymousreply 180August 22, 2021 1:02 PM

The initial reaction to the reboot showed a huge interest in V. We need a reboot.

by Anonymousreply 181August 25, 2021 5:15 AM

Martin was so hot, as a kid I didn't even mind he was a lizard beneath that hunky human facade.

The movie and miniseries was awesome but when they went to a series it turned to crap. But what did this gayling care? As long as they had Marc Singer shirtless or parading around in a tight pair of jeans I was content! Plus all the camp of Dynasty in Space!

by Anonymousreply 184August 26, 2021 3:01 AM

He wore the tightest jeans imaginable.

The series was good until about halfway then it fell apart spectacularly.

by Anonymousreply 185August 26, 2021 3:49 AM

The mini-series was stellar.

by Anonymousreply 186August 28, 2021 5:20 AM

This mini-series was top notch.

by Anonymousreply 187September 7, 2021 3:43 AM

It would have made Dominique a star

by Anonymousreply 188September 7, 2021 3:53 AM

R188 There was no one by that name in the series.

by Anonymousreply 189September 7, 2021 3:56 AM

He's talking about Dominique Dunne, who was killed during filming and her part was recast.

The original miniseries still holds up. What's interesting is that there were so many actors back then who looked like "real people." Actors like that are few and far between these days. I remember when V had that awful reboot everybody on it was young and hot.

by Anonymousreply 190September 7, 2021 4:34 AM

R190 Fuck off Dominique Dunne troll. No one cares about dat cunt.

by Anonymousreply 191September 7, 2021 7:37 AM

I know we’ve said this, but V needs a proper reboot. Re-do the original, add some elements of The Final Battle, then do the 20 years later material Ken Johnson wrote.

by Anonymousreply 192September 7, 2021 11:36 AM

What was Ken Johnson like as a director?

by Anonymousreply 193September 7, 2021 6:15 PM

I would do a reboot with all of the original (of course) and a lot of The Final Battle- conversion, Julie peeling of the leader’s face on live TV, the deepening hold on visitor sympathizers, even the alien twins. I would not have the star child. I’m not sure why Ken Johnson was upset with TFB. It was a great sequel. Sadly, the original cast is getting long in the tooth to play their characters again, albeit years later.

by Anonymousreply 194September 8, 2021 4:56 AM

The original cast who are still living are all in their 60s/70s now.

by Anonymousreply 195September 8, 2021 5:11 AM

While I like The Final Battle, there was definitely a step down in quality and the writing got a lot simpler.

by Anonymousreply 196September 8, 2021 5:26 AM

The Final Battle was good in parts, but it had some hokey 80s moments. I also could've done without the whole lizard/human hybrid baby storyline, that really dragged things down.

by Anonymousreply 197September 8, 2021 5:35 AM

TFB was definitely not as complex as the first one, but it was highly entertaining. It was still a quality sequel. I think the twins storyline was interesting and led to them discovering a bio weapon against the visitors. I think the hoke factor was there just not as much as I thought rewatching it.

by Anonymousreply 198September 8, 2021 11:30 AM

Kenneth Johnson believed in strong female leads hence Juliet and Diana. He was setting us them to battle it out in the sequel until interference. Then it became, inexplicably, more about Donovan and Diana which was boring.

Faye Grant has laid low since her 7th Heaven hubby got busted, thanks to her, for being a perv.

Great mini-series that is dying to have a great reboot. The things Netflix or Hulu could do with it DAYUM.

by Anonymousreply 207February 16, 2022 11:55 PM

R207 it did get a reboot. Netflix would probably cancel it after the first season.

by Anonymousreply 208February 17, 2022 4:28 AM

R208 A great reboot that that shit that ABC fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 209February 17, 2022 4:33 AM

The series in 1984 turned really weird when they decided it should become Dynasty In Space. Jane Badler as Diana was bad ass though, probably one of the best villains ever on the television screen. I learned my British accent from June Chadwick as Lydia.

by Anonymousreply 213February 17, 2022 11:52 AM

Reboot this the correct way or make Ken Johnson’s sequel. Do both. It has all the elements to make this a hugely successful series.

-aliens

-strong female leads with a great heroine and a great villain

-action

-social message

-a strong story

- great characters

And so much more.

by Anonymousreply 214April 27, 2022 11:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 219April 28, 2022 3:24 AM
