He had a rivalry with Prince and he created The Mary Jane Girls as a response to Prince creating Vanity 6.

He was a super freak.

He was Rick James, BITCH!

He was good friends with Ron Jeremy years ago. I remember seeing interviews where they talked about drugs and orgies. I don’t think he was a very nice person, but who knows because he was on coke for his entire adult life.

Rick James, Mercedes McCambridge, Pazuzu...
I only interact with the best.

I was a huge fan of his.
Unfortunate that he peaked in 1981 with "Street Songs", and nothing he ever did after that as an artist was ever as good, or as successful. The drugs definitely got in the way of his creative growth, and he more or less stagnated. I think he also bit off more than he could chew, writing and producing for so many other artists, when he should have been concentrating on his own recording career. I loved both Rick and Prince, but it was obvious that Rick was running out of ideas and Prince wasn't.
The upcoming Showtime doc looks amazing.

Am I the only one that is kind of horrified by documentaries including people that had no idea that social media was going to be a thing? They reporters in his time would run cameras, but only show the best of clips. They could be themselves. He would act better if he knew that it was being filmed for the world, as most of us would.

He was in a band with Neil Young at one point in the 60s.
He had the WORST fashion taste of any major pop star ever. But I forgive him for it every time I hear Super Freak.

He had a house in Buffalo and imprisoned a woman as a sex slave for a time with his wife's knowledge. Super-freak+

He was like a benevolent pimp in dress style and attitude, but I loved his music. Burned himself out with drugs. Such a shame.

Nothing funnier than Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Story about Rick James on The Chappelle Show.
When Wendy Williams was doing her second syndicated radio show on WBLS from New York, she did an interview with Rick. Mother fucker was so high even Wendy was astonished.
He died within a year of the interview.
