Men who wear rings on their middle finger, are they gay?

This used to be a thing in the olden days, but in the present why wouldn't you wear the ring on your ring finger? On your right hand, if it's terribly important to you to show you're not married. That's what a woman would traditionally do with a ring that was from a partner but short of an engagement ring.
