They're so similar, it's hard for me to decide. And both breeds are so cute.
But I think that I like Westies a little bit better, because they have a slightly nicer temperament.
A lot of Scotties are biters. Or should I say "nippers."

I prefer dogs from North. Northies.

White Westie and a white Scottie are cute.
Although I really prefer the black Scotties.

They all excrete the same.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 31, 2021 12:56 AM |
Are they rescue dogs?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 31, 2021 12:56 AM |
Are they dogs thrown away by their previous owner?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 31, 2021 12:59 AM |
Welshies are superior to both (I"m biased though). Westies are even cuter than Scotties but both are great.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 31, 2021 1:04 AM |
I think Scotties are becoming quite rare.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 31, 2021 1:05 AM |
Welshies are indeed cute, R9.
However, Scotties and Westies are much more closely related to each other.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 31, 2021 1:06 AM |
I've never heard that, R10.
Why is that?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 31, 2021 1:06 AM |
I follow this Westie on Instagram.
she'd been naughty...

Westies were developed from the Cairn...this is why
[quote]The person most closely associated with developing the modern breed of West Highland White Terrier is Edward Donald Malcolm, 16th Laird of Poltalloch. Malcolm owned terriers used to work game; the story told is that a reddish-brown (Cairn) terrier was mistaken for a fox and shot. Following this, Malcolm decided to develop a white terrier breed, which became known as the "Poltalloch Terrier".

R11, I know, I know...but I have to speak out on behalf of my breed lol. A Welshman always wins!

[quote] A Welshman always wins!
Why is Wales part of the UK then?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 31, 2021 1:13 AM |
Yikes, where did YOU pop up from , R16?
That was nasty and uncalled for.

he literally says "Yeah, I wanna play!" ^^

A veterinarian once told me in the early 2000s, when George W Bush had a Scottie: “a difficult little dog for a difficult little man.”

I can't believe you wrote this
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 31, 2021 1:54 AM |
R24, my brother has a lot of Scotties, and they don't really bite.
They just kind of nip at you. Like George W. Bush's dog did to the reporter.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 31, 2021 1:58 AM |
Our Westie passed on two years ago. These videos remind me of him SO much; he did all of these things.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 31, 2021 2:15 AM |
Nippers? You DARE use the N word?!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 31, 2021 2:18 AM |
I've been thinking of getting a Westie. Do they shed a lot? Do they require a lot of grooming?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 31, 2021 2:25 AM |
My BFF back home just got a Westie puppy a few weeks ago, and she was bitching to me about him being an ankle-biter. Plus he's shredding his pee-pads.
But he's decidedly NOT a rescue. She told me she couldn't find an adult Westie to adopt anywhere, hence the puppy. So I told her she deserved to get her ankles bitten and that he would grow out of it. Hopefully.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 31, 2021 2:30 AM |
Ours didn't shed, but we had him groomed every four months or so, just to keep him neat and clean.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 31, 2021 2:38 AM |
They are lovely breeds--very intelligent and funny--but like most terriers, incredibly stubborn and willful. They need strong discipline through obedience courses, and even then it's hard to break their wills.

[quote]I've been thinking of getting a Westie. Do they shed a lot? Do they require a lot of grooming?
Yes, they do shed. Not so much grooming. Once a week a good brush....every 3 months or so a proper visit to the dog parlor.

[quote]Welshies are superior to both (I"m biased though).
R9 are you the guy who posted photos of your beautiful Welshie some time back? - one with a haircut the other without?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 31, 2021 3:06 AM |
I remember Laura Bush laughed and said George Bush worshipped their Scottie and the dog was indifferent to him. Scotties are adorable but very stubborn and independent.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 31, 2021 4:06 AM |
R33, yes, that was me lol. I'm glad you remembered! As you can see, I love my dog (he's my first dog ever).

Is he a rescue dog?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 31, 2021 4:12 AM |
Westies for sure. Cute, sporty, game little animals. Love their shaggy white coats.
R22, I've never liked Scotties, but ever since W had Scotties, I've disliked them more. Or maybe it's the other way around.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 31, 2021 4:17 AM |
The video at R3 is cute, but people who have white dogs have a moral obligation to society to clean that discoloration from their hair. It is abomination. Groom yer dawg!
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 31, 2021 4:21 AM |
R36, nope. I got him from a breeder. I got so lucky with my dog. Even though he's a terrier and defiinitely crazy, He cracks me up and he's the most loving dog I've ever met. And he's almost always happy.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 31, 2021 4:21 AM |
You should be more open to Scotties, R37.
They're so smart, and they have very unique personalities.
It's true that many are high strung, but every now and then a lucky owner will get one with a sweet disposition.
And they're also very beautiful and regal dogs.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 31, 2021 10:27 AM |
Westies age very well - they're pretty sprightly until the end. They also get cuter and cuter looking as they thicken out and look like teddy bears...but they can get grumpy - beware!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 31, 2021 1:45 PM |
Ewoks.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 31, 2021 4:25 PM |
Lol R42!
I have always thought that Westies and Scotties looked like Ewoks.
That's why they're so cute.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 31, 2021 5:41 PM |
Westies always get those brown stains around their mouths and butt.. I prefer black coated scotties.

So do I.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 31, 2021 5:54 PM |
Lol R47.
Don't make me post a picture.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 31, 2021 11:35 PM |
I recently saw a brunette Scotty(?) with a westie on the street. Twin build.
I didn't want to stalk so I had to pass. I don't interrupt people when they're with their dogs.
