Errol Flynn with Paul Newman coming in at a close second.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 28, 2021 5:46 AM |
Gregory Peck (because r1 already said Paul Newman).
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 28, 2021 5:48 AM |
Errol Flynn was possibly the most handsome man in the history of movies.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 28, 2021 5:49 AM |
Missed a lot of good, dead hotties, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 28, 2021 5:53 AM |
Rock Hudson and Steve McQueen should be on this list.
In addition to their beauty, they both sported big cocks.
One woman described McQueen's dick as "two Coors cans welded together."

Gregory Peck.

R6, Steve McQueen had lots of charisma but I wouldn't describe him as incredibly handsome.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 28, 2021 6:42 AM |
I must say Tab Hunter.as well.
.He even looked better than Troy Donahue to me as far gorgeous blonde men go.

Jeffrey Hunter

Gary Cooper was just breathtaking. There is nothing hotter than dark hair, full lips and light eyes:

Cooper in the '30s was pretty much ideal

R16 I second that. Although his performances don’t impress me much, his good looks often do. I wish he’d been given more first rate pictures where they showed off his good looks even more, like Newman got the chance to smoulder in his films…

Alain Delon is #1, absolutely!
And Tyrone Power is thisclose!

Well, that moves up Tyrone Power!

Paul Newman was incredibly good looking.
Unfortunately he always seemed to know you thought so. Every role I’ve ever seen him in, he seemed to lean on that and whatever attraction I would have had fizzled out for me.
Cary Grant simply blew me away, no matter what film he was in. Breathtaking. It was like he found being handsome trivial and insisted on focusing on whatever matter was at hand. I found that quality to be mesmerizing.

If I had to pick the most gorgeous male movie star of all time I would have to say Paul Newman. Those lips, those eyes, that body, that skin...her was perfect. In Richard Burton's diaries he comments on Paul Newman's beauty, saying his skin looked so good it seemed like he was wearing makeup (of course he wasn't). He was truly a golden boy.

Paul Newman has never done it for me.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 30, 2021 5:31 AM |
Tyrone Power was another beautiful one but sweet and sexless, like a kitten.
Joel McCrea and Charles Farrell were gorgeous and sexy.

R48, For me, he came off as asexual.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 30, 2021 7:01 AM |
The appeal of Paul Newman for me was like Patrick Wilson in “little children” he looked the epitome of handsome but relatable. The handsome colleague or neighbour you can fantasise about who also happens to be a nice, friendly guy. While he was sexy, he was not intimidatingly so like Alain delon for example. He seemed approachable.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 30, 2021 7:13 AM |
Anthony Perkins was beautiful. Tab Hunter too. Some of the others listed are very hot too, particularly Paul Newman when he was young
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 30, 2021 7:59 AM |
Indeed, R1. Say what you will about DL, but occasionally, they're spot-on. And this was one such instance. I voted for Newman, and was pleased to see the poll results.

by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 31, 2021 5:45 AM |
James Dean, Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Errol Flynn, Montgomery Clift, Cary Grant, Charlton Heston....they were all handsome, great looking guys. I don't think you can say that just one of them was the best looking. They were all knock outs.

Of the dead ones, unquestionably young Marlon Brando. Elvis is also worth considering.
But when he dies, Alain Delon will take top spot permanently.

OP, when you gave "Captain Jim" as a film of Errol Flynn??? What??? Perhaps you meant "Captain Blood"?
But for Flynn, he was gorgeous in color in "The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex".

Tony Curtis in Spartacus...."I am a singeh of sorngs." Oi vey.
After Alain Delon, it is surprising that most French actors are not the least bit attractive, with some that are ok, like Thierry L'Hermite and Benoit Magimel. The others, eg Daniel Auteuil and Gerard Depardieu, are no one's idea of attractive.
However, some of the new young ones are quite beautiful - Benjamin Voisin, Axel Auriant, and Maxence Danet-Fauvel.

Bonjour, R78! It is because I live in France. I forgot about Gaspard Ulliel, but again he is one of the younger ones with a modeling background like Voisin and Danet-Fauvel. Victor Meutelet and Lucas Bravo are pretty but cannot compare to Delon or Brando. Louis Jourdan was briefly beautiful, true. I love watching Louis Garrel, who seems to masturbate onscreen in many of his films, but he is not beautiful. I also loved Belmondo, but again, not beautiful. The other three you mentioned are average. Richard Berry is or was, very, very sexy.
Just my opinion, of course. Bonne journée ! (R77)
by Anonymous | reply 85 | July 31, 2021 8:38 AM |
R85 Bonjour, seriously, who the fuck can compete with Delon and Brando anyways ? They were both the most beautiful men in the world.
Lol if you can say Garrel is n not beautiful and Richard Berry is/was very very very sexy and the others are average, well, I get why we don't have the same tastes in men.
Young Belmondo was hot asf, but okay.

by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 31, 2021 8:49 AM |
Marcello Mastroianni
If not “beautiful,” beyond smoldering and sexy. That he turned out some of the most iconic performances in film history only adds to his allure. If someone is pretty, but a bad actor, some of their “pretty” fades for me, whereas a talented actor becomes even hotter in my eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 31, 2021 8:50 AM |
Mastroianni has a claim to second-tier beauty. I can't get past Belmondo's big nose and coarse lips, though I loved it that he did his own stunt work. I do think that the French are embracing the look of more feminine-looking actors and so the current crop is more conventionally beautiful.
R77
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 31, 2021 10:13 AM |
Antonio Banderas. Some bad career management and strange romantic entanglements, I admit.
But when he was young, no one was more beautiful. As beautiful, yes. A few. But not more.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 31, 2021 1:05 PM |
R86, you really don't think Richard Berry is sexy? He wore black clothes a lot, and had a lithe, muscular body. To me, he conveyed a dark energy and I thought he'd be dynamite in bed.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 31, 2021 1:21 PM |
Louis Jourdan was “briefly” beautiful? Bitch looked great for decades.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | July 31, 2021 2:46 PM |
R77's idea of male beauty appears to be femme twinks.
We're talking about MALE beauty here, which is very different from female beauty.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 31, 2021 3:17 PM |
Jourdan was in a cheesy 1970s TV version of Dracula in his mid 50s and he was still hot.

by Anonymous | reply 103 | July 31, 2021 5:47 PM |
"Beautiful" is not necessarily "sexy," as some are opining about Paul Newman, for example.
But "Most beautuful" is the topic.

To be considered beautiful, a man's face must have some feminine element to refine it.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | July 31, 2021 10:32 PM |
No, R107, that's female beauty. Male beauty is very different: strong and virile,
by Anonymous | reply 108 | July 31, 2021 10:43 PM |
Younger 1930's Errol Flynn was really good looking but I think overall Paul Newman always had the great looks even as an older person.

Monty Clift much, OP?

Gregory Peck. Runner-up young Marlon Brando.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | July 31, 2021 11:41 PM |
Jourdan was hardly 'briefly' beautiful.
Delon certainly was one of the greats and also one of the great assholes. What a fucked up life.
For some reason Gerard Phillipe is little known today but not only did he have a beautiful soulful look but his performances range from existential anti hero tragedy to popular fun adventure movies with equal ability. He died at 36.

That’s true, R124. I’d add that squinty eyes or prominent lower eyelids (not bags under the eyes, but lower eyelids that get your attention, somehow) are also typical of very handsome men.

by Anonymous | reply 131 | August 1, 2021 10:45 AM |
"Beautiful" is a step above "handsome," for both men and women.
"Handsome" can include a crooked nose, pocked complexion, receding hairline, strong jawline.
"Beautiful" is features in perfect proportion and close to ideal shape. "Lush" is good.
Examples: JFK was handsome. JFK, Jr., was beautiful.
Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, William Holden, handsome. Montgomery Clift, Tyrone Power, Tony Curtis, beautiful.
My opinions!
by Anonymous | reply 132 | August 1, 2021 11:15 AM |
Many say Montgomery Clift was beautiful, but I just don't see it. I see a good face for a character actor. Not too pretty. Not too rugged. Not too comic. Not too ethnic, but not to white. And not much sex, either. Hollywood produced some gorgeous men, but Montgomery Clift is not one of them. Guy Madison is. Montgomery Clift is certainly not.
How anyone could exclude William Holden from their list of most beautiful male film stars is another mystery. Unless one is thinking of a drunken 63 year old Holden lying dead on the floor, the man was one of Hollywood's most beautiful male actors.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | August 1, 2021 12:21 PM |
R133, I hit that.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | August 1, 2021 1:40 PM |
Beauty is subjective, but you're mentally ill for not having included Marlon Brando.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | August 1, 2021 1:54 PM |
I think many of the controversial choices here are men who had long careers and are probably more remembered in their later years when their looks had faded or worse. Brando, Holden, Lancaster, Cooper, Power, et. al. were all extraordinary looking in their youth but it's not how they're remembered for the most part.
There are very few men who lived long lives (and (more or less) kept up their looks: Paul Newman, Tab Hunter and Cary Grant come to mind.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | August 1, 2021 1:59 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 146 | August 1, 2021 2:12 PM |
R139, There is no "controversy" about the beauty of double-eyelashed Tyrone Power.
And I beg to differ with your premise. I think most posting here are thinking not of the actors' callow youth nor of their elder years (not that Ty Power or James Dean had any, but still....), but rather of them in their prime.
Not fat Brando. Not post-accident Clift. Not a be-wigged Curtis.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | August 1, 2021 2:12 PM |
Obviously, R147. Beauty is always fleeting. Still, a glint of sunlight on the water creates a memory of beauty.
If the rule is "beautiful and never not beautiful," the the only possible options are people who died young. Or Audrey Hepburn (who still died relatively young at 62).

I have a blu ray of Trapeze, starring Lancaster and Curtis, and I can hardly get through it because all I want to do is look at Burt and the movie focuses too much on the freakish Curtis.
R153’s guy might be an example of a guy who was both handsome and beautiful. Though I maintain Lancaster was as well. Unless having delicate facial features is a requirement for “beautiful”. Whatever!

How the hell do you leave off Brando?!?!!!? A bloody Roman god!
by Anonymous | reply 164 | August 1, 2021 7:59 PM |
I wonder what it's like to have the kind of looks that could literally stop traffic:
by Anonymous | reply 166 | August 1, 2021 9:14 PM |
What about Lex Barker?
Fernando Lamas?
Ricardo Montalban?
Imean, in their youth, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | August 1, 2021 9:15 PM |
Obviously Jon Hexum would be on the list if this included television.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | August 1, 2021 9:17 PM |
Gregory Peck also had a wonderful voice so he gets extra points.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | August 1, 2021 9:18 PM |
Ginger's looks hardened. But she was very pretty in the 30s.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | August 2, 2021 12:00 AM |
R157, George Montgomery became a hot daddy in his later years and a renowned furniture maker. When he used to appear in those Johnson Wax commercials with his open shirt exposing his hairy chest, gayling me was smitten.

Clift was beautiful, but it’s Brando and Newman for the DL win. Brando was gorgeous whore with a complicated, free-wheeling love life and tropical islands flying about in the will; Newman was a handsome stud who remained fuckable until very late in his days.
Tight draw.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | August 2, 2021 1:09 AM |
Brando was not that handsome. Better looking than James Dean, I guess, but not more handsome than a lot of the actors mentioned in this thread.
And Burt Lancaster had a complex sexuality to him as well—and was far more handsome and didn’t lose his looks as he aged.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | August 2, 2021 4:38 AM |
I don’t get Burt Lancaster at all. I admit his body was sometimes photographed sexy, but he always looked a bit creepy to me. I love his films though but just never fantasised about him.
My type is more Jeffrey Hunter but I’m left a little frustrated because his roles were never particularly sexy.
I did however find Brando sexy particularly in “streetcar” but he was so cute in “the men” too, the only thing that ruined was sometimes his voice and his way of talking. I think James dean was a bit like this too. Paul Newman was always rather sexy with his guy next door appeal and maybe it helped that media was not so advanced or maybe I’m too young to have paid much attention but thankfully he did not come across as annoyingly and overly exposed as Clooney for example.
Another beautiful looking actor that hasn’t been mentioned is massimo girotti in “ossessione” and even as the mature gentlemen in “theorem” also victtorio gassman in “il sorpasso” and “bitter rice”
I seem to remember Ettore manni also being incredibly sexy in tony Richardson’s “mademoiselle”. He was not beautiful but for sure he was sexy in a rugged animalistic kind of way (much like Brando is “streetcar” and girotti in “ossessione”). The film itself was very erotic. Richardson must have been in his element photographing his future wife Jeanne Moreau being seduced by the handsome manni.

^^^ do Italians not capitalize their last names?
by Anonymous | reply 177 | August 2, 2021 5:34 AM |
Of the names on your list, OP, Chuck Heston, Tony Curtis, Kirk Douglas, Tony Perkins, Roger Moore, and James Dean are a big no for me. I'm sure others found them attractive in their day, but I don't see it.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | August 2, 2021 6:11 AM |
^^^
You didn't find Roger Moore attractive? Really? Who did you think was very handsome?
by Anonymous | reply 179 | August 2, 2021 7:00 AM |
George Montgomery was also a scuptor and did the sculpture of fellow beauty Charles Farrell at Palm Springs airport. It doesn't really look like him, but its not like, Ronaldo-bad or anything.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | August 2, 2021 7:45 AM |
Ginger Rogers was homely.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | August 2, 2021 11:03 AM |
There’s a long-standing rumor about Lancaster. He allegedly used the 1963 March on Washington to cruise for black booty.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | August 2, 2021 1:23 PM |
[quote]My type is more Jeffrey Hunter but I’m left a little frustrated because his roles were never particularly sexy.
His roles were never sexy because he wasn't sexy. He was pretty, but his sexuality was strictly low temperature and non-threatening. He was pretty. He was male. But he did not project masculinity.
He had the kind of sexuality that teen-aged girls saw - and felt comfortable with - in Bobby Sherman. And even Bobby Sherman couldn't do anything with it.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | August 2, 2021 1:27 PM |
I can't believe Guy Madison hasn't been discussed much on this thread. He was the first film actor to be called "BEEFCAKE."
And what about Rory Calhoun?
Robert Wagner?
Hugh O'Brian?
by Anonymous | reply 185 | August 2, 2021 2:05 PM |
Indeed, it is impossible to find fault with Guy Madison. Visually.
As an actor? Well, not so much.
But with his shirt off... WHO CARES ABOUT ACTING?
by Anonymous | reply 186 | August 2, 2021 2:09 PM |
Guy Madison was mentioned several times
by Anonymous | reply 187 | August 2, 2021 2:18 PM |
R154, I guess I am looking just at Tony's bedroom eyes and sensual mouth!
by Anonymous | reply 188 | August 2, 2021 2:27 PM |
R185, Robert Wagner is still alive (91).
by Anonymous | reply 189 | August 2, 2021 2:30 PM |
Tony Franciosa always did it for me. Here he is way past his prime and he's still highly fuckable.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | August 2, 2021 2:30 PM |
R188, Tony also had black hair and blue eyes, an irresistible combination.
by Anonymous | reply 191 | August 2, 2021 5:18 PM |
And Tony Franciosa also gave off an ambi-sexual vibe in his youth.
by Anonymous | reply 192 | August 2, 2021 7:04 PM |

That combo never did it for me. Dark hair/green eyes...yes, please.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | August 2, 2021 7:10 PM |
You must be thinking of VAN WILLIAMS, r193, though never much of a movie star is decidedly dead..
by Anonymous | reply 194 | August 2, 2021 7:21 PM |
Tab Hunter
by Anonymous | reply 195 | August 2, 2021 7:21 PM |
Wow, R194, never heard of him, but I just googled. He was gorgeous. And yes! Dark hair/green eyes does it for me.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | August 2, 2021 7:38 PM |
James Franciscus was also quite something. FUCK ME, Daddy. What an absolutely beautiful STUD.
by Anonymous | reply 197 | August 2, 2021 8:36 PM |

[quote] There’s a long-standing rumor about Lancaster. He allegedly used the 1963 March on Washington to cruise for black booty.
I’ve never heard of a predilection for black fellows (I’m assuming you meant men and not women), but I don’t necessarily doubt it. He was also in attendance at at least one of Rock Hudson’s all-male parties that got raided by the feds, and Hoover had a file on him because he was a suspected homosexual.
I think he was likely bi with an enormous sexual appetite. Being incredibly fit does that to a person—nothing like being in excellent shape to juice your sex drive. He was always fit and did all his own stunts in all his movies. I also think he probably had some kind of sexual relationship with his gymnastics partner in his youth, pre-movie star days (when those nude photos were taken).
by Anonymous | reply 199 | August 2, 2021 8:40 PM |
Weren't Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis doing it at some point? I think Tony credited Burt with rescuing his career from B movie sandal and sword epics by casting him in The Sweet Smell of Success and Trapeze, both of which Burt had a hand in producing.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | August 2, 2021 8:50 PM |
I agree that the screen test of Brando in R69 is one of the most beautiful shots of a man in existence.
Some of these pics of George Montgomery are incredible, also.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | August 2, 2021 9:29 PM |
R197, The man who took Jane Fonda's virginity when they were in college.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | August 2, 2021 11:20 PM |
George Montgomery in his1940s films looked like the perfect Arrow Collar Man, created by the imagination of JC Leyendecker. He was really too handsome (beautiful?) for a male movie star at that time. Hollywood wanted their men in the 1940s to be more real and craggy like Bogart, Tracy and Gable. Even Flynn and Grant weren't that pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | August 3, 2021 12:46 AM |
Oh FFS R10, Delon is still alive, this is about dead ones.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | August 3, 2021 12:52 AM |
Flynn when young was very pretty. And handsome.

R172 About Mongomery's artistic abilities... yes, he did some nice work but I know for a fact that he occasionally took credit for other people's work.

Victor Buono.
Why not?
by Anonymous | reply 210 | August 5, 2021 6:01 AM |
Joel McCrea was not "beautiful." The term is not synonymous with "handsome," "good-looking," "well-built," or "cute."
by Anonymous | reply 211 | August 5, 2021 5:24 PM |
r211, masculine beauty is different from feminine beauty. McCrea had masculine beauty.

by Anonymous | reply 214 | August 5, 2021 6:42 PM |
The scene on the rooftop in FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT gives us a lot of Joel to enjoy as his robe keeps falling open. His long legs are heavenly.

R212, You are simply being obstinate and obtuse.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | August 5, 2021 10:16 PM |
Someone insisting that there is one definition of beauty and that it's aligned to feminine qualities is the one being obstinate and obtuse.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | August 5, 2021 11:33 PM |
Actually, Joel McCrea does have some elements of feminine beauty - the fine hair, delicate nose and mouth, finely textured skin.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | August 6, 2021 5:33 AM |
I sold a Joel McCrea item on eBay years ago to one of his and Frances Dee's grandsons and we communicated for a while.
Joel had died when he was quite young and he was curious to research his film career.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | August 6, 2021 6:26 AM |
Imagine having grandparents that were that beautiful. It would be disappointing not to measure up. I have no such problem. My grandparents were ugly and so am I.
