Children’s program “Arthur” canceled after 25 years

Omg why???? I never met anyone who hated this cartoon. It’s one of the better ones for small children.

He always seemed a little gay-ish to me.

by Anonymousreply 1July 28, 2021 1:43 AM

The ratings declined after that special episode and never recovered

by Anonymousreply 2July 28, 2021 1:45 AM

Matt Damon appeared on Arthur.

It was clearly DW.

by Anonymousreply 5July 28, 2021 1:50 AM

DW’s temper tantrums behind the scenes caused chaos, leading to this hard decision

by Anonymousreply 6July 28, 2021 1:51 AM

He didn’t put out…

by Anonymousreply 7July 28, 2021 1:53 AM

They should have revealed that the last 20 years of Arthur took place in DW's fever dream, brought on by infected pierced ears.

by Anonymousreply 8July 28, 2021 1:55 AM

Did they ever explain why Arthur the aardvark has no nose? Lost in a car wreck? Didn't develop in the womb? Stuck it somewhere he oughtn't?

by Anonymousreply 9July 28, 2021 1:56 AM

It was after my time, but I appreciate the humor

R8, it will actually be revealed that Arthur was the just the dream of an autistic kid.

Wasn’t there an episode where he went to a sleep over at a friend’s house who had two moms or something and everyone freaked out?

by Anonymousreply 14July 28, 2021 2:08 AM

04/25/2011 Francine - Man hating bull dyke. As an adult, voted Most Forceful Labia by the Womyn of Michfest

Muffy - Frau in training. As an adult, voted Bitchiest PTA cunt of the year by Elwood Falls elementary school.

Arthur - Closeted gay. As an adult, committed a mass shooting at his workplace (Crossfire Industries) after Mr. Crosswire turned down his clumsy pass in the Crosswire Gym steam room

Buster - Gay-acting straight. Friend zoned for life. Women think he's gay, men think he's a very masculine woman.

Binky - GAY. As an adult, starred in a series of porn movies whose titles always begin with The Bad News Bear in which the bad news was always anal prolapse

Brain - Asexual. As an adult, pioneered research on human procreation without sexual contact.

DW - Never made it to adulthood. Was killed at age 12 by the Tibbles for being a bossy cunt.

George - Straight but afraid his antlers would kill a woman if he tried to perform cunilingus, died a virgin

Molly (head of Binky's gang) Married to Francine. Together they started a punk band called The Stinky Clams

Ladonna - ran away at 15, became a meth addict and gave birth to 12 autistic children

(Yes, I watch too much Arthur. Cute show but Francine is a fucking bitch.)

Muffy was a rich girl. She wouldn’t live a PTA life

by Anonymousreply 16July 28, 2021 2:12 AM

It’s because the pictures of him from before the multiple rhinoplasty operations came out, and he’s no longer considered a good role model for kids because he dealt with his body dysmorphia through radical invasive surgery.

Wait...this Arthur creature was an aardvark? And not, you know, what I thought he was every time I saw his picture, a mouse?

by Anonymousreply 18July 28, 2021 2:56 AM

Muffy might make an appearance on TRHOEC(The Real Housewives of Elwood City).

by Anonymousreply 19July 28, 2021 7:59 AM

I thought he was a bunny. Isn't John Legend based on Arthur?

by Anonymousreply 20July 28, 2021 8:44 AM

Awe.. I use to watch this with my kid when she was little.

I still watched it sometimes when she was grown up.

Ahh well end of era I guess.

The Simpsons are next probably.

by Anonymousreply 21July 28, 2021 11:37 AM

Rosie O’Donnell: “I’ve been reduced to doing stand up at my local mall. You know, I was here the day this mall opened. Was anyone else? Does anyone remember who the celebrity guest of honor was? It wasn’t me! That’s right Arthur the aardvark!”

by Anonymousreply 22July 28, 2021 12:10 PM

Cancelled? Did he say something offensive on Twitter?

by Anonymousreply 23July 28, 2021 12:22 PM

R23 people responded poorly to the episode where Arthur dreams DW became retarded

His nose used to be long, r9. I have no idea why it was changed. I also thought he was a mouse or maybe a bear cub until a couple of years ago.

The artist's reason for Arthur having no nose anymore is not reassuring.
He gave a drawing demonstration, showing the original character and the modern version, and he answered what he said was the most-asked question he gets: Why did Arthur's nose get smaller over the years?'
"It wasn't anything I did on purpose," he explained. "I just drew him over 35 years, and he got more lovable ... it's a little bit like the Michael Jackson story."

I hated it as a kid.

by Anonymousreply 27July 28, 2021 1:01 PM

It lost a lot of viewers after the gay wedding episode.

by Anonymousreply 28July 28, 2021 1:25 PM

There's nothing to indicate that the show lost viewers after the gay wedding episode, which was in 2019.

The show hasn't been in production for two years so obviously the reason for cancelling it had nothing to do with the gay wedding.

by Anonymousreply 29July 28, 2021 1:29 PM

Cut him some slack, the average life span of a rabbit is between 9 and 12 years. Arthur is 195 in human years. Wait, is he even a rabbit? What the fuck is he supposed to be? A gerbil, a hamster? He looks kinda freakish.

by Anonymousreply 30July 28, 2021 1:30 PM

R2, is was a [italic]very[/italic] special episode.

by Anonymousreply 31July 28, 2021 1:32 PM

Well, I hope PBS allows them the chance to do a special end movie wrapping up all the lose ends, it’s needed even more then the Manifest one.

by Anonymousreply 32July 28, 2021 2:08 PM

Lack of representation. It had to go.

by Anonymousreply 33July 28, 2021 2:24 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 34July 28, 2021 2:40 PM

I recently was thinking to myself in the shower, after watching Arthur memes, 'God, the producers of this show have intentionally designed it for adults in the end'.

Guess I spoke too soon and PBS finally caught up with 'em. This show would've become extremely boring if it were both totally PC and typecast, akin to what happened with 'SpongeBob'. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an animation mass exodus, of constant old-line shows from the 90s coming soon. Watch out Simpsons, Spongebob, Family Guy etc.. I'd trade all this crap for another season of Ren & Stimpy!

by Anonymousreply 35July 28, 2021 2:51 PM

The really reason Arthur lost the nose was it reminded too many people of a penis.

by Anonymousreply 36July 28, 2021 2:53 PM

The most disturbing thing in all this is one of the first books was actually called Arthur’s Nose, where he’s picked on for his big nose and sees a Rhinoplastologiist about having it fixed- and doesn’t! Insuring the child friendly message of embracing and being proud of what you have even if it makes you different. Guess that message didn’t last long.

What’s Ziggy Marley going to do without those theme song royalties?

by Anonymousreply 38July 28, 2021 3:07 PM

38 posts and none of you mentioned the big Millennials/Zoomer Arthur question?

It's similar to the Boomer/Xer Mickey Mouse question.

Why does Arthur have friends who are dogs (Binky) and can talk and act like people but also have a pet dog (Pal) who acts like a dog?

WTF is Arthur supposed to be? A deformed human child?

by Anonymousreply 40July 28, 2021 3:15 PM

I noticed drawn animation is just not as popular with young children like it used to be.

by Anonymousreply 41July 28, 2021 3:22 PM

Maybe there should be a very special episode where a serial killer comes to town and murders all the children?

by Anonymousreply 42July 28, 2021 3:25 PM

R42 I would watch that episode

by Anonymousreply 43July 28, 2021 3:28 PM

So would I, r43.

Would Brain be the first victim?

by Anonymousreply 44July 28, 2021 3:30 PM

They can just show re-runs forever. Surprising that they bothered making new ones for 25 years when it's just a kids' show and 5 years gets them through their Arthur-watching time anyhow.

by Anonymousreply 45July 28, 2021 3:42 PM
Lack of representation. It had to go.

Well, Brain is supposed to be African-American, Francine is Jewish, Binky's family adopted a Chinese baby, and the Reads have Latino neighbors. That, and the fact that Mr. Ratburn is a homo, would seem to be pretty inclusive.

by Anonymousreply 46July 28, 2021 3:53 PM

It’s very diverse. All the different kids are different animals and cultures, and they’re friends.

by Anonymousreply 47July 28, 2021 3:55 PM

Arthur had a longer running show than Bea Arthur!

by Anonymousreply 48July 28, 2021 4:05 PM

Guys, stop pointing out the truth that the show is diverse, there's a troll who wants to cause drama about "wokeness" and your facts are getting in his way!

by Anonymousreply 49July 28, 2021 4:12 PM

Like many child stars, Arthur just couldnt handle the fame. He knocked over a convenience store with Dana Plato and his balls shrunk even more than Danny Bonaduce's on all those 'roids.

by Anonymousreply 50July 28, 2021 4:18 PM

Because he didn't present hole to Charlie Sheen, Rose!

by Anonymousreply 53July 28, 2021 4:26 PM

That explanation should ring hollow to the creators of Peppa Pig.

by Anonymousreply 57July 29, 2021 2:01 AM

I think the abortion episode turned a lot of people off.

by Anonymousreply 58July 29, 2021 2:08 AM

I hate Arthur. Fuck him. What did he ever do for me?

by Anonymousreply 59July 29, 2021 2:12 AM

25 seasons is enough to last forever as reruns. What's the max any kid watches it, 5 years?

by Anonymousreply 60July 29, 2021 2:25 AM

SpongeBob has three years to go before it reaches the 25 year mark.

by Anonymousreply 61July 29, 2021 2:32 AM

Shit. I never even questioned what Arthur was. I guess I thought he was a mouse.

Anyway - Wishbone > Arthur

by Anonymousreply 62July 29, 2021 2:49 AM

by Anonymousreply 69July 29, 2021 2:18 PM

What was holding up his glasses? His ears on on the TOP of his head

by Anonymousreply 70July 29, 2021 2:49 PM

They're the kind that stay on with pressure at the sides rather than ear pieces. On a related note, I've wondered about bald guys and yarmulkes?

by Anonymousreply 71July 29, 2021 2:59 PM

Maybe bald guys use that two sided tape that women hold wigs on their heads with (using a cap to cover their hair) - but that makes me wonder how men keep toupees on. Also tape?
