‘Scream 2’ and ‘Psycho’ Make Rob Zombie’s Worst Horror Films List
Wow, were they that bad? I never cared for Scream 2, but Psycho is amazing. Did he watch the remake and think it was the original? I’m confused.
His list of worst Horror Films are
Dracula 2000
The Mummy Returns
Psycho
Scream 2
I Know What You Did Last Summer

Scream 2 was great! Jerry O’Connell was hot AF, and Laurie Metcalf was brilliant. Scream 4 was the stinker in that franchise (and Scream 3 wasn’t a whole lot better).

R1 Scream 2 is the better made film but I found 3 far more entertaining. 4 was fun but filled with bad acting

In my opinion, Zombie has made exactly one good film: The Lords of Salem, so I’m not looking to him as an arbiter of taste.

Psycho is a classic film that has 80 million rip offs, most terrible. I would describe Psycho as a psychological thriller rather than a mere horror film.

I’ve seen a few of his films, but still haven’t seen the one that started it all, House of 1000 Corpses

There are a lot of bad horror movies I agree with on this list. I don’t like any of the Screams at all and never understood the hype. It’s just not scary to me at all and not enjoyable.

The Brendan Fraser Mummy films are action adventure films, not horror, and there's some controversy in horror circles over whether crime thrillers like Psycho and Silence of the Lambs should be classed as horror as they lack a supernatural element. But Rob has never been accused of being an overly nuanced cultural commentator.

I really enjoy Rob Zombies movies especially House of 1000s Corpses.

R9 they’re horror, just a sub-genre. I always felt Horror has different genres, like Scream is definitely a “horror” flick but it’s a Slasher, while something like Poltergeist is more classic horror b

He really doesn't have much room to talk. His takes on the Halloween franchise are pretty widely maligned among the horror community, as are his other films.

His movies are terrible. And I say that as a horror connoisseur.
Horror requires the anticipation of bad things. Dread, in other words. RZ botches that from the start. He thinks nonstop bad things are what horror is, like a twelve year old boy might. He’s wrong.
This list, especially the inclusion of Psycho, is a) a desperate cry for attention, and b) a good indication of how deeply he misunderstands the genre.

Dracula 2000 was kinda sexy, even if it was a lame movie overall. Think of it like a cheap Cinemax flick, and skip over the parts where people aren't naked.
Also, Rob Zombie is a shit filmmaker.

Dracula 2000 is a great bad movie. Very amusing. Psycho remake is unwatchable, not even as camp.

Scream 3 is hated by most Scream fans, and you can tell it had different writers and a different Director, and it’s over the top and campy, but I love it. It’s a lot of fun.
The first two were more dark and serious, while 3 was more campy and had humor.
But how can you not be campy and over the top when you cast Parker Posey in a role? I don’t think she can be subtle if she tried.

Not only do his movies suck, but they're more torture porn, than true horror which as R18 wisely noted, is about the anticipation of bad things. Plus he continually casts his wooden, talentless wife.
TCM doesn't pay much attention to horror these days, but they used to have interesting commentary about the making of horror movies, which was often cheap & low prestige.

Parker Posey was the best part of Scream 3, I hate that her character was killed off and Patrick Demsey's bland detective character survived.

R34 well Sydney needed to protect her hot cock. She wasn’t willing to lose it. Parker Posey lacked that.
I hated HOW she died more than the fact she did die.

R29 all the Screams (except this new one) were directed by Wes Craven
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 26, 2021 2:10 AM

R36 yes but the screenplay and script were not written by the same person. Craven had to try and help the new guy with the characters etc. for 3.

The Weinsteins ruined Scream 3. All their interference led to it being a disappointment. Just like they fucked over 54.
Funny how in the early '90s, Miramax was the place for filmmakers when now we know it was anything but.

I always think of his movies as the sort of “porn” of the horror genre.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 26, 2021 2:18 AM

R40 yes, it’s been revealed over the years that Scream 3 dealt with a lot of studio interference. They didn’t have Kevin fighting back, they had a new guy, and this was his first big budget flick. He struggled with the script and screenplay because these were characters created by someone else, not himself, so he didn’t understand them or connect with them. In his earlier drafts he had Sydney almost as this badass hard chick who kicks ass. That’s when Wes Craven stepped in and helped him with the characters. He then read the first two films screenplays and scripts to get a better feel of them.
The studio then kept interfering, not wanting to show gore and changing the setting of the movie etc.
Scream 4 is pretty much what Scream 3 was supposed to be, but the studio made him change it to Hollywood, and it be a bunch of actors etc. vs locals obsessed with Stab.

The Gus Van Zandt version of Psycho is interesting for Julianne Moore's performance. I'd show it in an acting class with the original.
Everyone else is trying to mimic the original actor. Moore takes the same dialogue, same shots and turns the character into a seemingly man hating lesbian rather than just the bland sister Vera Miles played.

Anyone who loves Scream 3 doesn't know anything about movies. The only horror in Scream 3 is Courteney Cox's hairdo.

R23 saw Dracula 2000 when it came out, it totally sucked. But you do get to see a young Gerard Butler and Vitamin C's tits.
House of 1000 corpses - OK
The Devil's Rejects - great
3 From Hell - horrible
I did like Lord's of Salem and 31 though.
There are characters that are similar to Joker and Harley Quinn. Coincidence?

The major problem with Scream 3 was only having Neve for 2 weeks
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 26, 2021 7:53 AM
|
Yes, they couldn’t get Neve for more than 2 weeks, and couldn’t get Kevin Williamson until later. If they waited later for him, Neve couldn’t film again at all, so he told them to do it without him and work with her 2 weeks.

I like Scream 2 thanks to Laurie and Timothy. And Parker is the highlight of Scream 3. I don't hate 4, but fuck whoever thought Emma was a good choice.

I would love to know what Harvey Weinstein thought of that plot. Did Wes do that on purpose or just a coincidence?
And i think the Jenna McCarthy scene was supposed to be a dig at SMG.

I would love to know that too. I remember some horror site a year or two ago had an article speculating on whether the producer fucking or raping actresses was done as some kind of dig at Weinstein. Ehren Kruger wrote the screenplay, i wondered if many people have questioned him on it.
