Steve Walsh lead singer of Kansas. Handsome and that fucking body! He didn't age well but he was a beauty in his prime.
Who were the hottest pieces of ass in rock and roll in the 70's and 80's?

Well, based on this album cover I was going to say Mike Reno of Loverboy, but it looks like the ass belonged to the 13 year old daughter of the photographer, so I take it back.

Definitely Bruce after he got humiliated by that Rolling Stone article and started working out, the front of those jeans in Dancing in the Dark were nicely packed as well.

Bruce Springsteen, I have seen him around New York, beautiful skin on that man. His wife is FUG. She was smart enough to get pregnant, though. He didn't marry her for a year after the kid was born.

R15 I can’t find the reference, but in a review someone had called him scrawny or maybe even a scrawny Jew. He was out of the limelight for awhile and when he re-emerged with Born in the USA he was muscular, hunky and worked out.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 24, 2021 5:16 AM |
Bette Midler had some jokes on her 1985 comedy album, Mud Will Be Flung Tonight, about Springsteen and his new worked out body. One of the lines was- I can remember when his arms were as skimpy as his chord changes.

I watched one of the Michael Hutchence documentaries this week and it unbelievable how sexy and magnetic he was, something that is just not conveyed in still photographs. Part of it was his frenetic energy and him always in motion that is most evident when he’s on stage. He was really the equal of Jim Morrison in those powers. I’m glad I did see it and I have much more sympathy for him they I did before. He’s basically like Natasha Richardson, but where she succumbed in days, he lingered for years before dying.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 24, 2021 10:36 AM |
SprIngsteen was definitely less muscular prior to Born in the USA, but he was never Jewish. But I expect most folks know this?
Anyway, very hot.

1970s, James Taylor was good looking despite the unibrow. However, other times, he looked like a deranged Manson family member. On the skinny, lanky side too.

Michael Hutchence, I saw in person as well. Sexy, but pissy and grouchy demeanor.

To be fair, R53, neither did Bruce. When he compared himself to Elvis (his a-ha I want to be a rock star moment) all he saw was bad skin, an horrible overbite and a scrawny body. But he’s got the soul of a poet, and hey he’s alright.

Oh Christ.. Brian May was many things great, but not a heartthrob. Nothing to do with the hair (see my vote below), just too sweet a guy. And god, what a guitarist..
Freddie and Roger were the sex symbols of the band. Freddie, unlike Roger Taylor, wasn't conventionally handsome - but god, that charisma...
My vote goes to Slash, back in the day..

So here's a story I've never shared in print.... when I was very young and just started to masturbate one frequent images/practices that got me off. I would imagine Paul McCartney naked in front of me face down, and I would lie on top of him, and rub my dick between his hips until I came. I really didn't know what men did to each other. I wasn't sure I was gay or what. But I knew the thought of my dick rubbing on Paul's ass was the hottest thing ever.

My top picks of 80s hotness:
Michael Hutchence-inxs at his sexiest before before and during the Kick tour.
John Taylor - duran duran
Billy Idol
Dave Gahan -Depeche Mode
Larry Mullen -U2
Ian Astenbury -The Cult
Sting (until Dream of the Blue Turtles)
I was fortunate to see all of them live at their peak. By the way rumor has it Larry Mullen was very into BDSM

This is from the link that r171 posted about Mark Farner: Farner is one of the few musicians who as early as 2017 — early in the Donald Trump Presidency — heroically stated their support for Trump. In an interview on Mike Huckabee’s show in 2018, Farner discussed his support for Trump — that interview is gone off youtube.

R39 and the rest of the Freddie bashers. In what parallel universe was Freddie creepy and pervy? His partner and several lovers called him adorable and gentle. His ex gf and the wives and even the frau that worked for him said he was a beautiful man. Hell, even the kids of his bamdmates and his hag said they loved him. As for his teeth and being hairy...the point is his beauty was iconic and uniquely exotic, not generic pretty-boy who poses for magazines/Instagram. What we call "better than just beautiful".
by Anonymous | reply 210 | July 27, 2021 3:06 PM |
No one said he was creepy or pervy, dear. Just ugly.

R211 - he wasn't! His face and torso were masculine beauty incarnate.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | July 27, 2021 7:42 PM |
I'm with R204.
I've been having a Style Council renaissance and fuck, Paul is sex on legs.
So many moments he looks hot in photos and videos, but the Long Hot Summer video doesn't even try to hide the homoeroticism! (and apparently Paul IS straight.)

Here's young Sebastian Bach, looking like the poster for Follies.

R213 Great video and reminder of the irresistible soulful sleaze of Style Council... where it always seemed like Talbot was gay and had a crush on Weller.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | July 28, 2021 3:16 AM |
I was so disappointed to find out Weller was straight (though if I had been old enough to know more about The Jam, I would have figured it out from the get go). I remember getting an import of Our Favorite Shop at my indie record store as a young teenager and trying to decipher all the (what I was suer were) hidden codes on the cover. The poster for Another Country was sign enough he was gay to me.
And then I found out he went off and married that black chick backup singer they brought into the band I was heartbroken.

Milli, but not Vanilli.
by Anonymous | reply 220 | July 28, 2021 3:32 AM |
There was a period when The Style Council were definitely gay-baiting, before that really was a term/concept. But this was also a time when there really wasn't much benefit to people thinking you were gay (and people like George Michael hid the fact at all costs) so it seems like kind of an oddly bold thing to do.
Also, Weller was the obvious heartthrob, but I always thought Mick was kinda cute in a dorky way. Here he is glamming it up on a single cover.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | July 28, 2021 3:46 AM |
Yeah, there were many, many, MANY photos where it looked like Mick and Paul were lovers.
And supposedly there's a cut of the Long Hot Summer video where they're stroking each other's faces.
Paul has said something along the lines of, I'm straight and always have been but I was exploring my homosexuality or metrosexuality in ideas.
He was just beautiful then. Chav beginnings, maybe, but beautiful in a rough way, and with impeccable taste in everything, including fashion. I would have gladly taken his cock whenever and wherever.
And Mick was cute too, indeed. I'm a sucker for a cute face and curly hair.

[quote] There was a period when The Style Council were definitely gay-baiting, before that really was a term/concept.
I think it's more the British idea of "taking the piss" - they wanted to fuck with the homophobes' heads.

If we’re talking about blowing beautiful boy band members we need to include the Blow Monkeys, who if I’m not mistaken were made up of former male models.

No less an aficionado of beautiful young men then Andy Warhol found the Curiosity Killed the Cat band members to be quite beautiful and promoted them and was also in one of their first videos. The far right one who is cut off here was stunning!

And to round out my trio of increasingly obscure New Wave/Alt bands we finish with the very handsome guys of Thrashing Doves, who basically had their career destroyed before it got off the ground when Margaret Thatcher said she like one of their videos.

R223 - they all started saying that they were "bisexual" after Freddie told his interviewer that he'd had many male lovers but so far, he hadn't found a connection with any a depth as with his friendship with Mary because he wasn't a good partner for anyone. When that hit, it was pretty sensational in the context of the times. Of course, after that, he gave no more interviews about it just because his shitty manager told everyone how two of his partners had died of AIDS and the stigma of that, at the time, was incredibly damaging.

R71- NOW though- Duff Mckagan is a example of how someone can almost die (pancreas exploded), get a trainer/guru/dojo, pull their life together, go back to school (starting with his GED), invest his $ in Apple, AMZN, Starbucks, etc., buy some really nice real estate, marry a (slightly manly) 90's model and go back on tour. I also like that his "beach house" was pretty much a shack.

R70- Slash and Steven used to dress up as women in their early teens (14/15) in order to get into the clubs on the strip. Slash's mother Ola (ex of Bowie) helped them with their outfits. It worked a little too well for Steven Adler though- he would get picked up by older men on the strip and has said they really did some painful shit to him. Probably why he became a raging addict.

He was drinking 15 bottles of wine A DAY at that point because he thought it was better for him than his handle of vodka a day habit. His friend found him and rushed him to the hospital. R275 Well, a couple points:
1. It was released in 1990. Nothing about it is representative of either 70s or 80s.
2. Nothing about it is "rock and roll".... a bastardized sample of the Bowie/Mercury under pressure.... not even deserving of the descriptor "derivative"
3. He is and was disgusting, a joke.
4. Nothing about it is "rock and roll" - GTFO
5. Nothing about it is "rock and roll" right?
