Howard E. Rollins Jr.

Is his life just too sordid to talk about? I'd think his story would be a natural for all the scandal programs about Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 25July 15, 2021 9:44 AM

He was a closeted gay man who died from AIDS. It’s sad, but not sordid.

by Anonymousreply 1July 13, 2021 7:27 PM

What was sordid about him?

by Anonymousreply 2July 13, 2021 7:28 PM

He went from being a Oscar nominated actor to losing the starring role on a hit TV show to becoming a cross dressing drug addict who died on skid row. It's a lot less tidy than a closeted gay man who died of AIDS.

Excuse me, my name is Tooraloora Goldfarb.

by Anonymousreply 4July 13, 2021 8:55 PM

He was beautiful in "A Soldier's Story".

by Anonymousreply 5July 13, 2021 8:57 PM

He was a handsome and talented man, it's too bad his life was a mess

by Anonymousreply 6July 13, 2021 10:05 PM

He was amazing in “A Soldier’s Story.”

by Anonymousreply 7July 13, 2021 10:54 PM

When I heard the story about Tooraloora Goldfarb, I think I laughed for three days. It was just so outrageous.

Rollins was one of the actors who lost the "New Star of the Year" Golden Globe when Pia Zadora's rich old fart husband bought it for her. The other nominees were Elizabeth McGovern, Craig Wasson, Rachel Ward, and Kathleen Turner.

R3, he sounds like every guy I meet on Grindr!

by Anonymousreply 10July 13, 2021 11:17 PM

I still remember those pictures of him getting out of his Mercedes in drag and being arrested.

Was he fired from In the Heat of the Night?

Why?

by Anonymousreply 17July 14, 2021 7:23 AM

R17 The drugs were affecting his performance.

by Anonymousreply 18July 14, 2021 9:08 AM

He was fired because his drug habit got in the way.

by Anonymousreply 19July 14, 2021 9:09 AM

I remember back when they were shooting 'ITHOTN' in suburban Atlanta. Between Rollins and Hugh O'Connor I don't know which one got in the most trouble with the local cops. Lots of drug and drunk driving busts with those two.

This is an article about Rollins from 1993, 3 years before he died.

Did they replace him with another actor?

by Anonymousreply 22July 15, 2021 6:12 AM

I had his chocolate stick.

by Anonymousreply 23July 15, 2021 7:47 AM

odd that his next credit after Ragtime was a soap opera (Another World.)

by Anonymousreply 24July 15, 2021 7:50 AM

He didn’t take his own advice.
