I'm watching Deliverance (1972)

I don't get the rape scene. Why were these rednecks raping Ned Beatty? I don't take them as homos.....please explain, homos

What do you take them for? Trans?

by Anonymousreply 1July 10, 2021 2:07 AM

Ned was asking for it.

by Anonymousreply 2July 10, 2021 2:09 AM

Opportunists, R1

by Anonymousreply 3July 10, 2021 2:09 AM

I saw it as a teenager in a theater by myself. I haven't seen it since and have no desire to ever see it again.

by Anonymousreply 4July 10, 2021 2:10 AM

Talk about a bummer of a getaway.

by Anonymousreply 5July 10, 2021 2:12 AM

They're rednecks.

Instead of fucking the sheep and pigs, they fucked Ned Beatty.

They just did it to get off. There doesn't really have to be a reason.

by Anonymousreply 6July 10, 2021 2:13 AM

Because he had some nice purdy lips.

by Anonymousreply 7July 10, 2021 2:17 AM

He had it coming. Ned was a little cock tease.

by Anonymousreply 8July 10, 2021 2:21 AM

You have Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight available, but you choose Ned Beatty? Never made any sense to me.

by Anonymousreply 9July 10, 2021 2:21 AM

They were going to rape Voight but Burt killed them just in time.

by Anonymousreply 10July 10, 2021 2:23 AM

Burt was a dumb wimpy asshole in Deliverance - just like in real life

by Anonymousreply 11July 10, 2021 2:29 AM

Rape is never about sex. It’s about power. They were going to rape all three of the city slickers. They started with the weakest one.

by Anonymousreply 12July 10, 2021 2:29 AM

Wrong, r12: rape is primarily about sex - for the rapist. It’s much more complex than we realize.

Oh, Karen. You and your trollish threads. I love how the scripted faux argument about rape has started as early as R12 and R13. So stealth.

Now be a good frau and find a Reese Witherspoon rom-com.

Stay in russia boris, go blow putin.

by Anonymousreply 16July 10, 2021 3:02 AM

They wanted a little cushion for the pushin’

by Anonymousreply 17July 10, 2021 3:11 AM

Clearly, they were chubby chasers.

by Anonymousreply 18July 10, 2021 3:13 AM

[quote]Why were these rednecks raping Ned Beatty?

Because he was dressed provocatively, Rose.

by Anonymousreply 19July 10, 2021 3:24 AM

That scene was very shocking for1972. I saw this movie in its first run (I was 11 or12) with my film-buff parents. I'll never forget how mortified my poor mother was during the anal rape scene. She apologized and tried to shield my eyes and I had to tell her that I was OK and not traumatized.

Of course, I also laughed during the grossest parts of The Exorcist, so I was a pretty hard-core tween. But now I'm such a wuss that I can't even watch nature shows about predators.

by Anonymousreply 20July 10, 2021 3:32 AM

Were your parents nudists? Did your dad display your mother's vagina and adjacent for sex ed? They sound like terrible parents. But since your story is poorly written bullshit, none of it matters.

Your parents did not take you to either of those films. IOW, no, they didn't.

by Anonymousreply 21July 10, 2021 3:39 AM

Why this was never musicalized for Broadway is beyond me.

by Anonymousreply 22July 10, 2021 3:44 AM

IIRC, part of the back story was the fact that the guys were canoeing on the river because it was soon going to be dammed, and they wanted to enjoy nature as it was before the area was destroyed by man.

In that sense, perhaps the rape was meant as some sort of analogy to the rape of the land.

(I'm just throwing out a suggestion here. Feel free to roll your eyes.)

by Anonymousreply 23July 10, 2021 3:44 AM

Psycho alert at R21. My story is 100% true, "poorly written" or not. Your comments about my late, lovely parents are truly repulsive. Are you off your meds? Drunk? Or do I just not understand your edgy humor?

by Anonymousreply 24July 10, 2021 7:29 AM

R14 is the gay men are rapists troll. Dismiss.

by Anonymousreply 25July 10, 2021 1:21 PM

R14 is also R21, the "nudists are perverts" troll.

by Anonymousreply 26July 10, 2021 1:56 PM

R14/R23 is not only the gay rape troll, he's the women hating "they have special privileges" troll.

by Anonymousreply 27July 10, 2021 4:37 PM

Oops, I meant R14 and R21.
