I just find it odd that an actor who seems so normal has such passionate fans. Some people fawn over him like he's a huge heartthrob. I mean he's decently attractive and kinda funny, but there's far hotter and funnier guys. No hate, he just seems too vanilla to have that kind of following. Am I missing something?
Why is Paul Rudd so popular?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 6, 2021 4:39 PM |
He’s actually quite handsome. And he doesn’t seem like an asshole, like most Hollywood actors. He does good in comedies and dramas. Watch Mute on Netflix. You’ll see a whole different side of him.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 6, 2021 1:47 AM |
Because he’s Phoebe’s 🦞.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 6, 2021 1:48 AM |
Because of his big dick. Same as why people were interested in Fassbender and Evans.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 6, 2021 1:50 AM |
Big Jewish dick.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 6, 2021 1:50 AM |
He’s cute and approachable. Sweet dude
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 6, 2021 1:51 AM |
He looks so damn sexy in the Antman movies. I’m sick Marvel movies like everyone else. But🥵🥵🥵
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 6, 2021 1:51 AM |
It started when he was the adorable love interest in Clueless…and just grew with all his self-deprecating roles.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 6, 2021 2:02 AM |
Great furry chest
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 6, 2021 2:06 AM |
Quite short in person. Puts on weight easily. I suspect he's one of those actors who will diet/get in shape for a role, then immediately let himself go. Has he ever really had a great body, by Hollywood standards?
He still has a pleasant, boyish face, but it's a fraction of his youthful handsomeness ca CLUELESS. That was the era when he should have become an actual star.
I think a lot of DL has a sentimental attachment/memory to that Paul Rudd. Aging sucks, for the most part.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 6, 2021 2:15 AM |
He's just been around so long and kind of under the radar that he's been ironically 'discovered' with his late-career zeitgeist.
No one ever seems to talk about his acting, just that he has aged well. (Well, no. People pretend he hasn't aged at all instead of acknowledging his cosmetic procedures have worked out well so far.)
He's becoming one of those personalities who shows up in skits and commercials, like Ryan Reynolds, and is devoping a wink-wink smarmy comedic persona that I find grating.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 6, 2021 2:16 AM |
He looks gettable. He also looks like a regular person.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 6, 2021 2:16 AM |
I found it so hot when he kissed Bill Hader on SNL that one time. As a teen I flipped my shit
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 6, 2021 2:18 AM |
I've always liked Paul Rudd, he is cute and hot, and just seems so relatable. He blew me away in the movie Ideal Home, it was such a departure from his normal straight romcom and he has such a different look that I didn't even recognize him at first.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 6, 2021 2:18 AM |
Uggh. Many of us found that movie toxically homophobic, R13. And deeply, cringily unfunny.
That is, the 8 of us who actually saw it.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 6, 2021 2:20 AM |
He’s the Jewish husband all upper middle class suburbanite women dream of.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 6, 2021 2:22 AM |
R7 nailed it.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 6, 2021 2:30 AM |
He gained popularity because of his Ghostbuster role. Before that he was mostly known for Clue.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 6, 2021 2:34 AM |
Super cute
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 6, 2021 2:36 AM |
He seems fun and relatable, that's why.

He was in incredible shape for Twelfth Night at Lincoln Center. Never looked better.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 6, 2021 3:00 AM |
I want him as a friend, even though I don’t know a damn thing about him. Just seems like a mensch.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 6, 2021 3:03 AM |
His body was in incredible shape in Equus at Lincoln Center too.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 6, 2021 3:04 AM |
On Twitter, all the fanboys are excited about Seth Rogan’s tweet about how Paul gave him a massage.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 6, 2021 3:04 AM |
So damn handsome. You could actually have a beer and pizza with him. Never really hear anything negative about him.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 6, 2021 3:05 AM |
He has a Tom Hanks thing going on: he's completely non-threatening and attractive enough.
I can't think of a single bad thing he has said or done. He's mostly non-controversial. He's self-deprecating. He goes for the funny roles instead of the romcoms.
He has also mastered the delicate balancing act of coming across as if he has an actual personality while also keeping his personal life personal.
When it comes to Paul Rudd, I don't think many people have a reason why they would hate him, which probably makes it easy to hire him for any role since I'm sure people love working with him, (there's no diva stories), so he has essentially become popular by not being eliminated by something he has said or done.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 6, 2021 3:13 AM |
I think he’s very handsome like Edward Norton but bland. Paul Rudd is a lot better looking though and doesn’t seem to be aging.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 6, 2021 3:15 AM |
Not much gossip on him either. Trust me I’ve looked.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 6, 2021 3:27 AM |
Good-looking, inoffesive white guy who doesn't say anything ballsy enough to piss off middle America? Now why would that be popular?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 6, 2021 3:30 AM |
He looks like shit at R28. Why doesn’t he try to look more like R19 now?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 6, 2021 3:32 AM |
(R33) He looks damn good to me.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 6, 2021 3:36 AM |
Does anybody have any gossip on him?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 6, 2021 3:40 AM |
He's always been handsome, and still holding. A beautiful face. Very nice natural hairy bod. Exudes warm, intelligence, wit and charm in every interview. Comes ready to play and a trooper of a performer. What's not to love?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 6, 2021 3:56 AM |
I'm surprised he's not more popular among gay men. He's very cute and has a nice body.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 6, 2021 3:56 AM |
The Millennials admire him for keeping his sexuality on the down-low.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 6, 2021 4:09 AM |
True R37, it's mostly straight fangirls I see who love him. Not masc enough maybe? Who knows
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 6, 2021 4:09 AM |
My guess is because he's the marriage material crush as opposed to the manwhore kind. Which plays better overall to girls than gays, though plenty of gay guys like Paul Rudd
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 6, 2021 4:22 AM |
FRAU THREAD ALERT.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 6, 2021 4:34 AM |
I would love to see him as a serial killer. Or a really twisted bad guy.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 6, 2021 4:36 AM |
(R43) Shouldn’t you be on the Henry Cavill thread? Fuck off. Now back to Mr. Rudd.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 6, 2021 4:38 AM |
Because he's hot. He's funny, he's aged well, and *seems* unproblematic by most accounts.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 6, 2021 4:40 AM |
He's like the male version of Rashida Jones. They should get together and have babies.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 6, 2021 4:44 AM |
I only remember one person in another thread that said something negative about him. The person sounded like they were in the industry. I don’t remember what he/she said.

#44, a remake of "Cruising"?

by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 6, 2021 4:48 AM |
He's basically a kind person and not full of himself.

Why are you surprised? I’m tired of us being expected to worship straight men. He’s cute but nothing special.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 6, 2021 5:09 AM |
Because every single basic white straight guy gets worshipped by gay men R52. Why should Rudd be any different

[quote]I'm surprised he's not more popular among gay men. He's very cute and has a nice body.
If you were here a decade ago then you would have seen multiple male posters claiming that they, at some point, sucked his dick, made out with him or knew someone that did.
A few of them all shared a common thread: they all said he was a completely different person when he was just doing theater and a couple didn't know what the hell kind of act he was putting on now.
I really adored him in Wet Hot American Summer even if he has a case of tiny nip.

I know. I’m just so over us being expected to worship even the most basic of straight men.

Interesting R54. Didn't know he was a close case.

by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 6, 2021 5:48 AM |
I kind of dislike him. His mannerisms remind me of a smug teacher I had in the fifth grade. He would spend the entire class reading passages from the young adult book he was writing (which I highly doubt was ever published), flirting with popular female students and making snide and bitchy comments to everyone else. I'm probably being unfair because I'm sure Paul Rudd is nothing like him but still.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 6, 2021 5:59 AM |
Paul Rudd was 46 when he took on the roll of Aunt Man. Was he supposed to be playing a decade younger?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 6, 2021 6:27 AM |
Well, again, "hot" is in the eye of the beholder.
And, for many of us, Paul Rudd is VERY hot.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 6, 2021 6:29 AM |
R60 You mean “not picky.”
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 6, 2021 6:39 AM |
R61 Let me guess...you only find Matt Bomer types to be "hot".
And, I'm guessing you look like a shoe.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 6, 2021 6:42 AM |
Paul Rudd is extremely attractive — not “bland” — on an almost Paul Newman-ish level. I thought this was widely acknowledged, though I shouldn’t be surprised to see contrarianism here.
Years ago on this site, someone said they knew him in college (or maybe his ‘theater’ days as R54 mentioned, I can’t remember exactly), and he was bisexual, or even gay, and they were very surprised to see him morph into the video-game-playing married dad he’d become by that time.
I would love to know more about this. I find it totally believable, the person who wrote it did not seem to be embellishing anything.
I have a beautiful friend who had a similar past and is now by all outward appearances a “straight” guy, with two kids.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 6, 2021 7:00 AM |
Also I’ve never heard of Rudd having a big dick, that one is totally new to me. Never seen any VPL or anything.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 6, 2021 7:01 AM |
Paul Rudd is popular because he's talented, and I find him good-looking.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 6, 2021 7:41 AM |
He's super handsome in a dorky way.
I first noticed him in Romeo + Juliet or Clueless (don't remember) and really became a fan after he played gay in Object of My Affection (1998).
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 6, 2021 8:00 AM |
He really needs to make out with more men in movies. Preferably completely naked and maybe even in graphic sex scenes.

Eh, I have some free time between assignments so let me google and see if I can find that thread and throw that up and anything else random I see
As an aside: The guy above mentioning they heard something bad about Paul Rudd on here may have been talking about this

[quote]Rudd moves between pudginess and approaching-skinny, but he's never had a real body to speak of. He is hairy, but he's never had real body definition. More significantly, he's quite SHORT, even for an actor. NYC is full of passing anecdotes about encountering a "short, rude, aggressive Paul Rudd" at Starbucks. Or wherever. Like so many other NYC men, Rudd is borderline handsome, but ridiculously short, and manifests a classic Napoleon complex of behaviors to compensate.
As for "bi" or "gay" stuff:

[quote]I don't think he is 5'11". I am 5' 11.75" (6' on a really good day) and I had to bend slightly to kiss him. Not quite sure about the "jerk at Starbucks comments". When I knew him, he was somewhat shy. I could see him coming off as a jerk to cover for his shyness. On the other hand, when I met him again recently, I was surprised how much he had changed. He has really adopted the video game playing, frat boy persona. This was not they guy I knew in NYC.
(And I think this is the same poster)

[quote]"Not very deep" may be subjective. He was doing Shakespeare (yeah, that play). He certainly knew the material well enough to talk about it intelligently. He was politically aware. He had a political poster in his apartment window, though I cannot remember which one . There were books in his apartment and he seemed fairly well read. I wonder if it is a case of losing brain cells in LA. I have to admit that when I met him again, there was no there there. It kind of surprised me. It wasn't a long conversation; so, I could not get beneath the surface. On the other hand, I have known a few people with whom I was great friends, but got involved with Wall Street and turned into American Psycho type assholes. Perhaps it is just that one's personality is still malleable in one's 20s.
[quote]He is indeed very good with his mouth both above the neck and below the waist, and he gives/gave as good as he receives. I don't want to set my self up as some sort of moral beacon, but I have always avoided drunk sex. I have no interest in "gosh I was so drunk last night, I can't remember a thing." situations. Alcohol other than a few drinks "after work" was not part of the scenario.
[quote]It is a pity that he turned out this way. I guess he fell into a crowd with which he was comfortable and with whom he could make money. Oh well.

[quote]He is cruisy and flirty with guys though. Especially after he had a drink or two. Not pleasant. I caught him more than once checking guys out at work. He asked me to show him my abs and made jokes about his own body, would flash his stomach, etc. Then I had a weird encounter with him to this day I still don't know what it was. We were in Chelsea (This was fall of 2000 or 2001, I don't remember). It had been months since I worked with him, and ran into him. He had been drinking. He was alone. My boyfriend was meeting me and came up to greet me and kissed me in front of Paul (just a quick kiss on the mouth) and before I could introduce him to Paul, Paul made alternating jokes about it being "really gay" and not needing to see it, laughing, saying he was kidding, then not kidding it was really gay, back and forth. Then he started saying he was good kisser and my boyfriend and I should make out, it'd be hot and he could give us pointers. My boyfriend asked him if he was asking for a kiss and he said no no no you guys just do it. It was like one of those things where someone who was half drunk half knew he had stepped in it or was just being an ass like trying to make a spectacle out of us or that he really wanted to see it. Then later on he got very handsy, apologizing, put his hand on my back, rubbing my back, then stroking the back of my neck, "you guys are really cute together", "your boyfriend's hot", blah blah blah. Creepy. Then he left. Never saw him or ran into him again.

[quote]Hmm.. so did I, and you are totally correct, except for the straight part. (FYI, I am the poster referred to by OP.) He used to live in the Meat Packing district just north of the West Village. I can certainly believe that he has moved on to a more adult apartment now that her has a family.
