Michael Ontkean, Jack Lemmon and Cher wouldn’t cooperate with the production. I can always hold it together until they show Nureyev in the climactic montage, at which time I don’t mind saying I weep openly.
Oh,God,no ,not The Celluloid Closet

Who needs Michael Ontkean when you’ve got Harry Hamlin. Love Harry and the way he embraces this film. Did he hurt his career? Maybe. But he still did pretty well for himself.

I recently interviewed someone for a history project and learned that they'd had a relationship (a sexual one) with Vito Russo.
I'm not under the impression that the list of Vito's lovers or tricks is a small list, but in any case, it was pretty cool to hear that bit of conversation.

OP, were you on a Delta flight? They’re showing it in honor of Pride.

Back in the hoary days of Ur-Datalounge, when the film was new, Lily Tomlin got dragged mercilessly here because she reneged on coming out as part of her narration.

Oh yeah. There really was a time that people didn't know Lily was with Jane, specifically, and was a snatch eater in general

Those were also the days before Ellen came out, and we were collectively rolling our eyes at her trying to play it straight in [italic]Mr. Wrong,[/italic] making out in public with Arye Gross, and announcing that Ellen Morgan was "Lebanese" on Rosie's show.

I saw this when it came out. I was around 19. So many people were still in the closet - George Michael, Ellen DeGeneres; Will & Grace was still 3 years away, Ellen's coming out was 2 years away.
Watched this on TCM tonight and it's still very moving. I really want to watch Cruising, Desert Hearts and The Hunger again.
I know we slag Sarandon but she was so damn likable in her interview segments and reminded why I liked her.
Weird to see Tony Curtis in this because wasn't he against Brokeback Mountain winning Best Picture. Guess he changed in 10 years.
