Ned Beatty is dead to me at 83!

His squealing like a pig made him a star in Deliverance in 1972.

You missed it by about 8 minutes, OP, but at least your headline is Datalounge-worthy.

Great ass!

by Anonymousreply 4June 14, 2021 12:19 AM

He was very good in Network.

by Anonymousreply 5June 14, 2021 12:27 AM

He was a very talented actor who appeared in many classic films. His Otis in Superman was a total delight, and his chemistry with his costars was palpable.

Can I have his stuff?

by Anonymousreply 6June 14, 2021 12:33 AM

I was molested.

by Anonymousreply 7June 14, 2021 12:36 AM

I like blue.

by Anonymousreply 8June 14, 2021 12:40 AM

Aw, man -- he was so fricking hot in "Shampoo"! RIP.

by Anonymousreply 9June 14, 2021 12:46 AM

I feel terrible, I had no idea he was still alive.

by Anonymousreply 10June 14, 2021 12:50 AM

R10 same

by Anonymousreply 11June 14, 2021 1:08 AM

For years he looked 10 years older than he was, so I was surprised to learn he was only 83.

RIP

by Anonymousreply 12June 14, 2021 1:09 AM

He was great in "Superman: The Movie" and just in, well, everything. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 13June 14, 2021 1:16 AM

He did a lot of theater before his movie debut in "Deliverance", and then returned to the stage in the 90s.

As Cap'n Andy in "Show Boat" (1996).

First Charles Grodin, now Ned Beatty.

Pray for Lily Tomlin.

I've always thought it was weird that both he and Gene Hackman stopped acting halfway through their lives.

They used to be in EVERYTHING.

by Anonymousreply 16June 14, 2021 1:27 AM

4 marriages and 8 kids. Whew.

by Anonymousreply 17June 14, 2021 1:30 AM

I’ll bet R17’s observation at least partially answers R16’s implied question.

"On Broadway he won critical praise (and a Drama Desk Award) for his portrayal of Big Daddy in a revival of 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,' a role he had first played as a 21-year-old in a stock company production. He created controversy, however, when he was quoted in The New York Times on the skills of his young co-stars, Ashley Judd and Jason Patric. 'Ashley is a sweetie,' he said, 'and yet she doesn’t have a lot of tools.' Of Patric, he remarked: 'He’s gotten better all the time, but his is a different journey.'"

Has Jon Voight issued a statement yet?

by Anonymousreply 20June 14, 2021 2:01 AM

Susan Dey continues her silence...

by Anonymousreply 21June 14, 2021 2:50 AM

How much is his net worth?

We all want to know.

by Anonymousreply 22June 14, 2021 2:52 AM

[quote]I've always thought it was weird that both he and Gene Hackman stopped acting halfway through their lives.

He and Hackman both worked into their 70s. How many 140 year-olds do you know?

I'm an actor, and I'm only in my fifties and I have always had trouble memorizing my lines, and that gets even harder as one ages. I think lots of actors hit their seventies and struggle with that, or maybe they're just exhausted.

by Anonymousreply 23June 14, 2021 4:17 AM

crying.

by Anonymousreply 24June 14, 2021 4:24 AM

They picked the most unattractive man in Deliverance to fuck. And that fat ass!!

by Anonymousreply 25June 14, 2021 4:31 AM

As someone who merely took drama in high school, I’m always amazed by an actor’s ability to remember that shit. I truly am. Especially when it doesn’t roll off the tongue because it’s not something you would ordinarily say.

by Anonymousreply 26June 14, 2021 2:07 PM

Liked the big ol' daddy bear.

by Anonymousreply 27June 14, 2021 2:11 PM

Good!!!! I could never stand him. I thought he died years ago. Glad he’s dead!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 28June 14, 2021 2:11 PM

You should work for Hallmark.

by Anonymousreply 29June 14, 2021 2:15 PM

William Denison McKinney, who played Ned's rapist in Deliverance, died on 12/01/2011.
