Ned Beatty dies

No longer squealing like pig. He was a good actor, though.

Awwww...RIP

by Anonymousreply 1June 13, 2021 11:55 PM

“Are we going to Addis Abbaba Mr. Luther?”

Aww, I liked him a lot. 😢

by Anonymousreply 2June 13, 2021 11:57 PM

I'm going to Otisburgh in his memory

by Anonymousreply 3June 13, 2021 11:58 PM

Do better, OP.

C'mon.

by Anonymousreply 4June 13, 2021 11:59 PM

I love you, r3.

Beatty was freaking brilliant in Network.

by Anonymousreply 5June 13, 2021 11:59 PM

Brilliant in NETWORK. Unforgettable.

Also great in NASHVILLE as Lily Tomin's bumbling husband.

by Anonymousreply 7June 14, 2021 12:02 AM

He was also really good whenever he was on 'Roseanne' as Dan's dad. Such an awkward, cringe-inducing character.

by Anonymousreply 8June 14, 2021 12:02 AM

He was the kind of character actor whose verastility was never recognized enough.

by Anonymousreply 9June 14, 2021 12:02 AM

I saw him in Deliverance when I was very young. Could never think of him again without the sight of him in his underwear acting like a pig. Gruesome. Couldn't they have a cute guy doing it? It was like seeing Burgess Meredith dancing naked in Such Good Friends. Ruined The Reivers for me.

by Anonymousreply 10June 14, 2021 12:04 AM

Do you actually SEE the sodomy in 'Deliverance'?

by Anonymousreply 11June 14, 2021 12:06 AM

He had a hot ass butt he couldn't live forever

by Anonymousreply 12June 14, 2021 12:07 AM

Great, great character actor whose performances I will aways admire. Thank you, Mr Beatty.

by Anonymousreply 13June 14, 2021 12:08 AM

Was he related to Warren?

by Anonymousreply 14June 14, 2021 12:10 AM

He's really good in Magnolia and Boogie Nights. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 15June 14, 2021 12:10 AM

He had a nice ass but he couldn’t live forever.

by Anonymousreply 16June 14, 2021 12:11 AM

Notice they omitted his role on Roseanne.

by Anonymousreply 17June 14, 2021 12:14 AM

I thought he was great as Bolander on Homicide. He had such great chemistry with everyone.

by Anonymousreply 18June 14, 2021 12:20 AM

Tad!

by Anonymousreply 19June 14, 2021 12:22 AM

His career suffered after he reportedly made anti-Semitic remarks.

by Anonymousreply 20June 14, 2021 12:31 AM

Awww, Big Man!

by Anonymousreply 21June 14, 2021 12:31 AM

I was sodomized.

by Anonymousreply 22June 14, 2021 12:33 AM

[quote] he reportedly made anti-Semitic remarks.

Is he of Palestinian heritage?

by Anonymousreply 23June 14, 2021 12:34 AM

He was teased relentlessly over the years after making that movie. People would yell at him on the street, “Squeal lik a pig, Bobby!”.

They were mostly men, of course.

by Anonymousreply 24June 14, 2021 12:40 AM

He was funny in Superman.

by Anonymousreply 25June 14, 2021 12:42 AM

[quote] His career suffered after he reportedly made anti-Semitic remarks.

What?

by Anonymousreply 26June 14, 2021 12:42 AM

Married FOUR Times? I like him as an actor, but jeez, I can't see any woman (or man) getting sexy with this fat fug with excruciatingly bad teeth.

by Anonymousreply 27June 14, 2021 12:46 AM

Why him, why not Jon Voight?

by Anonymousreply 28June 14, 2021 12:48 AM

Mr Luthor, sorry 😛

by Anonymousreply 29June 14, 2021 12:49 AM

^ that's what someone said when John Lennon was shot: why not Paul McCartney?

by Anonymousreply 30June 14, 2021 12:49 AM

[quote]He was the kind of character actor whose versatility was never recognized enough.

He seemed like more of a bottom to us.

by Anonymousreply 31June 14, 2021 12:50 AM

Was the pig squeal an earlier generation's "Princess Diana scream?"

by Anonymousreply 32June 14, 2021 12:51 AM

R20, R26 I see nothing on Google.

Google says Gary Oldman was ruled to have uttered Antisemitic language.

by Anonymousreply 33June 14, 2021 12:51 AM

He was an acclaimed Big Daddy in the 2001 revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Too bad he never played the role on film.

by Anonymousreply 34June 14, 2021 12:53 AM

Never confused him with Jack Warden, but with both, as soon as either would come onscreen, I could sit back secure in the fact that I was most likely going to enjoy that movie.

by Anonymousreply 35June 14, 2021 12:53 AM

Addis Ababa

by Anonymousreply 36June 14, 2021 12:57 AM

We’re really horny and we’ve got Jon Voight and Burt Reynolds right here, but ya know what? Let’s fuck Ned Beatty!

by Anonymousreply 37June 14, 2021 1:13 AM

R27, it's called being rich and famous

by Anonymousreply 38June 14, 2021 1:15 AM

Was it… natural causes?

by Anonymousreply 39June 14, 2021 1:19 AM

This is the original thread and it's grayed out, I guess the person who said a couple weeks ago that the "dead to me" meme was started by a troll was right. The troll is now gaming the system to get threads that don't use "dead to me" deleted. Fantastic. It's always so fun here on Datalounge and not a minefield of mental illness or anything.

by Anonymousreply 40June 14, 2021 2:18 AM

He should have gotten an Oscar nom for Deliverance. I thought Burt Reynolds should have gotten on, too. I don't know why Beatty wasn't nominated (maybe because of the distastefulness of the "squeal like a pig" scene?) but Reynolds always thought he didn't get nominated because he did that silly nude spread in Cosmopolitan.

by Anonymousreply 41June 14, 2021 2:36 AM

He played Blanche's handicapped brother on Golden Girls

by Anonymousreply 42June 14, 2021 2:39 AM

Hollywood was okay with movies like Midnight Cowboy which were basically X-rated versions of the old sleep-to-the-top pre-codes, but they weren't so happy with a movie that portrayed hillbillies as rapists who wished their human victims were pigs instead.

by Anonymousreply 43June 14, 2021 2:40 AM

[quote]Could never think of him again without the sight of him in his underwear acting like a pig. Gruesome. Couldn't they have a cute guy doing it?

Wow. You're not shallow at all.

by Anonymousreply 44June 14, 2021 2:44 AM

Ned Beatty is another actor, like Hal Holbrook, who should have gotten an Honorary Oscar. 50+ years of solid performances in all sorts of films, always elevating the material. But instead, they gave one to Cicely Tyson for pretty much doing nothing special.

by Anonymousreply 45June 14, 2021 2:44 AM

R45, the OSAR is not an entitlement

by Anonymousreply 46June 14, 2021 3:05 AM

OSCAR, before someone says "oh dear."

by Anonymousreply 47June 14, 2021 3:06 AM

He didn’t always look like that R27.

by Anonymousreply 48June 14, 2021 3:16 AM

Married four times with eight kids! He was quite fertile, obviously!

He was a great actor, though. He claimed he never took one acting class, that he just learned by watching others.

by Anonymousreply 49June 14, 2021 3:35 AM

He was one of the great character actors. "Deliverance" was his first movie! What a role for your first film, something that unforgettable.

by Anonymousreply 50June 14, 2021 4:07 AM

[quote]Do you actually SEE the sodomy in 'Deliverance'?

Yes, Rose, they show five solid minutes of rock-hard hillbilly cock busting up his fartbox.

by Anonymousreply 51June 14, 2021 4:15 AM

Beatty also appeared in the 1984 mini-series "The Last Days of Pompeii" with DL fave Nicholas Clay.

by Anonymousreply 52June 14, 2021 10:30 AM

Ned Beatty dead, but Donald Trump lives on.

What a fucking world.

by Anonymousreply 53June 14, 2021 12:40 PM

He also appeared in Superman (1978) and Superman 2 (1980)

by Anonymousreply 54June 14, 2021 2:17 PM

Right, R48. Beatty in his youth:

Hey, fuck you! You can’t handle this jelly.

by Anonymousreply 57June 14, 2021 5:32 PM

He was quite handsome when he was young R55. Did Ned have a car accident or something?

by Anonymousreply 58June 14, 2021 5:32 PM

[quote] We’re really horny and we’ve got Jon Voight and Burt Reynolds right here, but ya know what? Let’s fuck Ned Beatty!

We spared Mr Voight because we recognized a future Trump supporter!

by Anonymousreply 59June 14, 2021 5:34 PM

The other hillbilly was about to force Jon Voight to blow him when Burt shot him with an arrow.

by Anonymousreply 60June 14, 2021 5:39 PM

[quote]He was quite handsome when he was young R55. Did Ned have a car accident or something?

That's exactly what happened. Before the accident, Ned was a dead ringer for the young Warren Beatty.

by Anonymousreply 61June 14, 2021 5:41 PM

Who is Warren Beatty? I thought that was a young Ned Beatty at R155. He was much better looking when he was young. I think some accident must have changed his nose though? The rest is getting so fat and losing his hair. He was very old, so that picture must be 65 years old too right? Ned was very cute when he was young. Barely recognizable.

by Anonymousreply 62June 14, 2021 5:59 PM

Wow. Ned Beatty looked a lot like Shirley MacLaine.

by Anonymousreply 63June 14, 2021 6:32 PM

R62, I hope you're joking.

On his best day, Ned Beatty looked like this. He was a character actor not a lead.

R64... you are an old poop!

by Anonymousreply 66June 14, 2021 7:38 PM

I loved him as Dean Martin.

by Anonymousreply 67June 14, 2021 7:49 PM

Ned and Warren grew up calling Shirley “Oink” because of her pistachio pudding fetish.

They are the reason that woman is mentally unstable.

by Anonymousreply 68June 14, 2021 8:00 PM

It was a really big check, r67.

by Anonymousreply 69June 14, 2021 8:38 PM

I just rewatched Back to School last week and Superman the week before that. He was great in both. Beatty did an episode of CSI 15 years ago where he played a serial killer with the facade of a kindly grandpa. He was genuinely creepy.

by Anonymousreply 70June 14, 2021 11:22 PM

Although Ned Beatty was very handsome and powerful, I didn't know that he had played Superman? I guess his old photo at R55 was when he was just a teen. Nice enough looking, but kind of a weakling. RIP Ned, Superman!!

by Anonymousreply 71June 15, 2021 5:50 AM

When I was a teenager I raped Minnie pearls dead body!
