I’m a huge fan of his work and consider him a genius, but Woody Allen does objectify his female leads... but, tbh, that’s true of many directors (Hitchcock, De Palma, Tarantino, etc.) so whether or not it’s inappropriately creepy is up to the viewer.

I'm surprised Datalounge as a collective let this thread go 90 posts without a mention of Zeffirelli. If all the claims are to be believed, he may have done more than pleasure himself to images of his various pretty-boy leads (some of whom could barely act). His films are mostly shit, though, so I can understand their being forgotten.
Mel Gibson when behind the camera has a tendency to linger over his male protagonists being beaten and dominated. It's too overt and too consistent (Braveheart, Passion of the Christ, Hacksaw Ridge) not to reflect something in his psychology. But he mostly escapes scrutiny for his perviness because he's a darling of conservatives and there's an old-fashioned kind of virtue to the framework of the movies he makes.

R90 Ah Mel Gibson! Whatever the true nature of his “psychology”, I think we can all agree that he is. a deeply fucked-up individual.
I remember a Vanity Fair cover story that came out in the 80’s-when he was at the height of his sex symbol period-that commented on the strange almost homoerotic masochism of his screen persona. How often he was beaten or subjected to abuse. I remember a quote something like this: “Male beauty this intense can only be made acceptable by punishing it.” Hard to believe there was a time when Mel Gibson was most famous for his beauty!
So maybe when he became a director, he sought out projects where the male protagonists were an extension of his own persona? Consciously though? Probably not.

R139 Yes; Victor Silva. He only ended up doing 15 months in prison even though he literally filmed himself raping a child. If that isn’t enough the child star was told by Coppola (the producer of the film) that “he would never work in Hollywood again” for reporting what happened.

[quote] The Peter Pan movie from the early 2000's. Not Hook.
That takes me back. Even as a kid watching it when it came out, I remember feeling weirded out about the Hook/Peter dynamic and not knowing why. As an adult, one can see that it's filmed in a very subtextually-loaded way. Peter seemed way more interested in and passionate about Hook than Wendy.
And their fight scene...way too much gasping and sweating and innuendo....creepy.

Just a pretentious and juvenile excuse to film women naked, static and/or silent. This director is a clear misognyist perv, so it’s a good thing he never really worked again.

[quote] What movies were made so the director can jack off?
The OP seems to think movies are made by one man to please himself.
NO commercial films are made by one man to please himself. That may have happened in the 1910s but not anymore.
Movie-making is an industry and movies are made to make MONEY, not orgasms.

This stinker of a movie was made to titillate the film makers, didn't make a nickel and Hughes went out of his way to distance himself from it
This film came up in one of the discussions about Connelly

R165 likewise, JUST ONE OF THE GIRLS.
You just know some twisted old lecherous Saban exec in the 80s wanted to see Corey Haim crossdress.

The Hell sequence from the 1935 film Dante's Inferno plays as both an incredible fever dream (they brought in an artist as the director) and as pretty much flat-out porno, with naked men as the main visual subject. Evidently one of the perks of damnation is that you get to look like a bodybuilder.
I am still unsure how they managed some of the scenes, particularly the one involving what look like thousands of extras pushing vast boulders up a hill.

Not a movie but the music video for Aerosmith's "Crazy." It's a middle-aged perv's softcore fantasy.

R171 the decision by Steven Tyler to make sexy schoolgirl stripper fantasy videos starring his daughter Liv have never not creeped me out. Even as a kid watching them on MTV I could tell something wasn’t right with that.
And to have cast Liv may have been quite innocent and platonic and sweet in a cheeky way (though I have my doubts), but even in that case Steven has to know how people would (mis?)read that and judge accordingly.

R106 I never want to meet the people who can successfully crank it to MEET THE FEEBLES. I saw it as a teen and never recovered. You can't look at Peter Jackson or his LOTR films in the same way again after seeing it, or after seeing Jackson's BAD TASTE which is almost as twisted and deranged.
An interesting unforgettable watch, and a totally one-of-a-kind and audacious movie (even by the standards of B-movie puppetry), is the best I can say for it. It has no other redeeming qualities or reason to exist.
Linked below is the only scene that's not disgusting or disturbing, the sweet moment when shy naive Wobert the hedgehog(?) bravely decides to serenade his love interest Lucille the poodle. at her stage-door His song is lovely, if a bit silly and over-the-top.

"The Savage Bees" was a made for TV movie that includes an eyebrow raising sequence where Tovah Feldshuh is driving a school bus that is suddenly attacked by bees! She commands all the prepubescent boys to take their clothes off in order to stuff the material into the crevices of the bus that were allowing the killer bees to enter.

R173, the video is a straight male fantasy, so yes they are "lesbians." Speaking of Alicia Silverstone, she made two movies in the 90s, The Crush and The Babysitter that are very pervy.

There are two movies that come to mind, both foreign. One which I just watched recently and highly recommend is the Italian film - La Piccola Santa. Story of two best friends, one falls in love with other, although both supposedly straight. The is a threeway scene in it that was longish, completely hot and probably took the director three days to film with several out takes I am sure making their way into his private collection.
And anything Almodovar made with Antonio Banderas. Although Pain and Glory probably had one of the weirdest, most erotic scenes that kind of left me breathless when watching it. It's the scene where Cesar Vicente who plays a straight hot-as-fuck laborer who can't read finds a way to thank the 12 year old gay boy (supposedly almodovar himself) the only way he knows how for teaching him how to read. He gets naked and takes a shower in the courtyard of the apartment complex just so the boy can secretly gaze on his body. And the way the camera lingers on his body is the reason cinema exists.

Since we’re talking Almodovar, how can we leave out Bad Education? If ever there was a movie that came-pardon the expression-directly out of a director’s loins, it’s that one. And if Almodovar was jerking off while making it, or even after, he wasn’t the only one! Gael Garcia Bernal just plays the complete male whore, calculating and carnal. Every scene that he’s in just oozes sexuality. And he’s got a beautiful ass!
Has any director, outside of porn, ever dared to put that raw a display of gay, male sexuality on the screen? For good and bad? I mean it’s a very dark movie as well. But brilliant. It makes you want to get off for sure, but then come back to admire the colours and the acting and the sheer audacity of it all.

Excerpt from a 2019 Vulture interview with Almodóvar:
Q: What is the biggest disagreement you’ve had with an actor?
A: I’m not going to give any names because it’s not nice to give names, and in general, I’ve been lucky. I remember only three times that I’ve had big arguments, and I suffered a lot because the actors really didn’t want to do what was necessary. Or they were not in a good place. Or we had a very bad relationship that was projected onto the movie. It’s awful when this happens. Awful! I remember the most painful one. For the first time, I had to go to a psychiatrist just because of the anxiety. It was an extreme situation that had nothing to do with the actor’s ability, but he had an almost psychotic reaction toward the character, and both he and I had to go to a psychiatrist — me to deal with my anxiety and him to deal with his issues. My brother was convinced we were never going to finish that movie, but I never threw in the towel. The idea of not finishing a film is the most painful thing I could imagine. Even if the actor and I died trying, we were going to finish that movie. We both had to find a middle ground, and at some point, I rewrote part of the character to fit this particular actor better. And for the longest time, I couldn’t see this film, but I saw it again four months ago at a retrospective in Spain and I was quite pleased with the result — having to rewrite the role played well for the film. It’s a really big adventure. You don’t know what’s going to happen, and you have to be ready for it. But this was an exception in my career. In 95 percent of the cases, I had the right casting and they are wonderful for the film.
Q: Can you at least tell me the name of the film?
A: No! [Laughs.] If I tell you the name of the film, you will know the actor.

I would bet money that was GGB on Bad Education. Their friction on the set was well reported at the time, and although they made nice publicly after the film's release, they haven't worked together since.

When you point this kind of stuff out from straight male directors, serious film fans get offended and think you're accusing those filmmakers of being Harvey Weinstein. There's a middle ground, you know. Funny, they don't mind female and gay male directors expressing their sexuality through art (as long as it's not real creepy stuff).

Even with the understanding that she's playing a stripper, it's creepy how often Mikey Madison is required to take off her clothes and simulate sex. I like Sean Baker's films but this one smelled of a heterosexual director casting his 'crush' in a film so that he can watch her be naked.

Something that really stood out to me in the otherwise atrocious A Sound of Thunder was how lovingly the scene featuring a sunlight dappled Ed Burns in his underwear was filmed. That looked like it was courtesy of Barry Lyndon-era Stanley Kubrick, whereas much of the rest of the film looked like a videogame.
I looked up Peter Hyams afterwards to see if he's gay (or had an affair with Ed Burns).
