Who are you calling intelligent, and who are you calling dumb, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 29, 2021 1:16 AM |
Well, John Lithgow did go to Harvard.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 29, 2021 1:19 AM |
If you're basing your assessment on traditional education, then Damon, Natalie Portman, David Duchovny all come to mind (Ivy grads). Streep, James Woods, Dolph Lundgren have a lot of high-end education.

Both Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck come across affected and trying to sound intelligent in interviews. And of course A-Rod was always Dim-Rod to me and Jimmy Fallon is another dim bulb.

I'd say that most if not all the people mentioned in R3 are entitled to a full tuition refund.

Courtney Love is highly intelligent, but it seems that her natural thought patterns are very non-linear, which can make her hard to follow for a lot of people as she rambles from topic to topic. Still, she is smart, quick-witted, and a bibliophile—much more intelligent than the average celebrity. Her intellect seems to get overlooked given her reputation in a number of other arenas.

James May, of "Top Gear" and "The Grand Tour", has a Doctorate of Arts (PhD) in music.
Brian May, guitar player for Queen, has a PhD in Astrophysics.
Mayim Bialik has a PhD in Neuroscience, but like the Mays, is smart enough to make some big bucks in the entertainment field, instead of spending her life in academia.

The Sedaris siblings, David Bowie, Sarah Silverman, Sacha Baron Cohen, Rosie O’Donnell, Trevor Noah, Craig Ferguson, all the Monty Python ones, the band Queen too, Joan Rivers – actually, I think a lot of comedians are smart (being quick-witted requires a quick, astute brain, imo – also having a sophisticated sense of humor requires one)

80s B-list action hero Dolph Lundgren has a masters degree in chemical engineering, and had a Fulbright Scholarship to work on another advanced degree at MIT... but he had an affair with Grace Jones and left academia for a career in showbiz.
I've always been vaguely surprised that he hasn't chucked showbiz and gone back to a career in science, but if he'd rather do a bit of acting and direct straight-to-video action movies, well that's what he'd rather do.

[quote]Joan Rivers – actually, I think a lot of comedians are smart (being quick-witted requires a quick, astute brain, imo – also having a sophisticated sense of humor requires one)
This is true. Comedians and comedy writers are almost always well above average intelligence. And you can always tell how smart their audience is, by how they react to jokes that are perceived to be offensive but are really just a layer or two too sophisticated for some people.

According to testing, Frank Lampard Jr. is quite intelligent. He studied Latin at school, got into good universities (but didn’t go), all that.
He is evidently and at least slightly more well-spoken than most professional footballers. That though is rather a steep sliding curve.
