It's a nice, family-friendly area wedged between Culver City, Venice, and Santa Monica. Due to its proximity to Silicon Beach, there's been an influx of trendy shops and restaurants, and single family home values have soared to the millions. South of Venice Blvd are apartments buildings that are rent controlled.
City Councilman Mike Bonin and his husband live in Mar Vista, so it's a bad place for gay couples to put down their roots.
