Which actress should have won an Oscar...

I see what you’re doing. Very amusing.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 22, 2021 8:03 AM |
I love Pam Grier in Jackie Brown. A shame she wasn't nominated. It might be my favorite Tarantino film.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 22, 2021 8:08 AM |
Kathleen Byron in Black Narcissus
Joan Greenwood in Kind Hearts and Coronets
Peggy Ashcroft in The 39 Steps and Quiet Wedding
Isabel Jeans in Gigi
Ursula Jeans in The Woman in the Hall

Kristen Davis? Was the shitting-herself scene her Oscar moment?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 22, 2021 8:57 AM |
Naomi Watts for Mulholland Dr. isn't on your poll, so a fail thread.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 22, 2021 9:12 AM |
See? SEE??? Bitch OP didn't even include me in his list. The racist Academy already denied me two Oscars and now the racist OP wants to ERASE my remarkable creations that were overlooked by the voters. Overlooked but never forgotten. My snot tears will NOT be denied.
Miss Viola Davis for "Far From Heaven" - I was much better than the overrated Julie Ann Moore
Miss Viola Davis for "Antwone Fisher" - in my humble opinion this is the greatest performance put on film in the past 75 years and in one of the greatest movies of all time
Miss Viola Davis for "Eat. Pray. Love" - don't tell me any of you bitches could have played my role without massive eyerolling and punching that horse Mrs Moder in her smug face.

Is Kristin Davis the new Vivian Vance?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 22, 2021 9:25 AM |
Sigourney Weaver won best supporting actress at the BAFTAs and begun her speech "An award for The Ice Storm? Surely there's been a mistake".

What is Titus? A computer game adaptation?

Where’s the "Sheryl Lee should have won the Oscar for Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" troll?
(I say that with love; I agree! Also Laura Dern for Inland Empire.)

R9 I clutched my heart/pearls reading that response. How DARE you.
Usually screen actors butcher Shakespeare. Usually Americans butcher Shakespeare, too. But Lange. Lange is the only Tamora.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 22, 2021 12:57 PM |
Ooh, Sigourney in the Ice Storm.. that’s a good one.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 22, 2021 1:11 PM |
Jessica Lange in Titus? She wasn’t even good in it.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 22, 2021 1:20 PM |
Gillian Anderson for The House of Mirth. It was the year Wonderbra won for Erin Brockovich.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 22, 2021 1:25 PM |
Jennifer Aniston for Cake
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 22, 2021 1:26 PM |
Mme Huppert for the Piano Teacher. One of the great screen monsters, what did she do in Elle that she didn’t do here? Surely she deserved the nomination in 2002.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 22, 2021 1:40 PM |
Kathy and Judy for Dolores Claiborne
Charlize Theron for Young Adult

R3 - nobody knows who any of those people ARE!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 22, 2021 1:54 PM |
Well, R18, you should make an effort to find out. These movies are all on Youtube.
You will gain new insights when you expand you horizons.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 22, 2021 1:59 PM |
R13 who would you have cast, then?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 22, 2021 2:45 PM |
Me for not only all my nominations but for every performance I've ever given.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 22, 2021 2:48 PM |
Pam Grier was awesome. It’s a shame she wasn’t even nominated. She was nominated for a Golden Globe but did not win.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 22, 2021 3:05 PM |
Lange in Titus is everything. Neither Meryl nor Glenn could do this.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 22, 2021 8:35 PM |
Pam Grier. Her performance was beautiful, pretty much faultless in every respect. It was a brilliant role but because of her; I can't think of anyone who might have come close.
The film is absolutely a favorite. It used to run very frequently on TV and I've probably seen Jackie Brown more often than any other film. When I did overed it was showing I would watch from wherever it was in the story.

Ellen Burstyn for "Requiem For A Dream". Hands down.

R26 That one still gets me.

Our lovely Carole Lombard should have won for "My Man Godfrey" instead of that dreadful Luise Rainer.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 22, 2021 9:20 PM |
R27 Especially since Laura Linney really should have won that year.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 22, 2021 10:29 PM |
Kim Stanley The Goddess 1958
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 22, 2021 10:48 PM |
How is Jessica Lange in Titus winning? Lol. Speaking Shakespeare in that weird southern accent (by way of Minnesota?!) and showing a sagged tit? She got mixed reviews for it and they were deserved.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 22, 2021 11:14 PM |
Lange was also already at her horror movie alcoholic bitch phase just hadn’t had the bad surgery quite yet. But every film she’s done post her lead Oscar has been very off in some way, very bad. Renee also has the 2 Oscars, means nothing.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 22, 2021 11:16 PM |
R23 Jesus, what do you think she did there? Struggle with the dialogue and then make out with a hot guy? Shit, I can do that.

Since you are being lazy, Matt, and not even trying to post from your different sock accounts, I’ll be lazy too and just repeat what I posted in the other thread.
It amazes me how persistent you are, R31, R32, R33. Your posting history reads like the demented, hate-filled writings of an obsessed stalker. I picture you looking and acting like Buffalo Bill, struggling to get your look just right, as you stare at marred photographs of Lange in her youth on your walls, whispering with seething fury, “I’ll show you sexy, breathy, horny, you ugly, talentless BITCH!”
Alas, when it dawns on you that your look isn’t so much perfected as defective, you go into a blind rage, ripping her pictures before making your way down to the basement toward your latest victim, assuring yourself, “It puts the lotion in the basket or gets the hose today!”
My god, Matt, don’t you [italic]ever[/italic] stop?

by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 22, 2021 11:48 PM |
I agree, R37. I remember Julianne Moore being quite good in that as well.
My choice is Norma Aleandro in The Official Story (1985). I did vote for Cher in this poll because she was the same year and also should have been nominated for Mask.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 22, 2021 11:51 PM |
Lange was tremendous in Titus and her reviews were excellent. Rolling Stone said she "seethes with sexuality and vengeance," while the San Francisco Gate said her vow to seek revenge on her son's murderer is "a moment that sends a cold wind through the theater." The editors of Entertainment Weekly urged Oscar voters to consider her for best supporting actress.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 22, 2021 11:55 PM |
R39 EW highlighted Lange in a "for your consideration" article directed at the Academy, writing:
[quote]Jessica Lange already has two Oscars and six nominations to her credit, so her appearance near the words 'Academy Awards' should never be a surprise. But everything about her daring performance in Titus as Tamora, the Queen of the Goths, is an astonishment. Donning breastplates, vowing vengeance, tearing into Shakespeare for the first time as if nothing could be more fun, Lange steals the show – and when the star of the show is Anthony Hopkins, that's grand theft.
Also, our girl Jean Smart is shortlisted for “Guinevere” in the article (see below) too!

Melanie was great in Body Double but not sure it was Oscar-worthy. Patty Duke was better than Mia in the TV movie sequel to Rosemary's Baby in the '70s, but Mia should have gotten a nom for Purple Rose of Cairo instead of Anne Bancroft or Meryl for boring ass Out of Africa.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 23, 2021 3:34 AM |
Fuck me, Kathleen Turner should have won in 1994 for "Serial Mom". Hilarious, subversive and deeply committed. Plus, that was the year they had to scrape the barrel.
Jodie Foster in Nell?! Saggy Susan in The Client?! Winona in Little Woman?!

Jackie Brown is in my top five films OF ALL TIME. Pam was awesome!
Pam Grier not only deserved to be nominated, she deserved the Oscar. I was ticked that that slow reactor Robert Forester got nominated and neither Pam nor Sam Jackson was NOT.

Sharon Stone for Basic Instinct

Jessica Lange, “Men Don’t Leave”

Sigourney Weaver would have been my winner for 1997, so she was my pick. But among performances that haven’t been mentioned, I’d choose Reese Witherspoon for Election. No one but Reese could have made Tracy Flick such a memorable character, and nothing she’s done compares to that performance.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 24, 2021 5:42 AM |

Was Pam lead for Jackie Brown?

Madonna received strong reviews and a Golden Globe. Bette Midler even stated that she thought Madonna deserved the Oscar.

by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 24, 2021 8:13 PM |
R68 They should have won.

Liv Ullman was a very boring actress, never a star. She may have been a good one, but only the critics cared.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 25, 2021 1:31 AM |
She was a huge star in Europe and a reason to see foreign-language films in the States.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 25, 2021 1:32 AM |
I watched The Emigrants and The New Land recently back-to-back and thought Ullman was just fantastic, particularly in the sequel. She was nominated for The Emigrants the year Liza (deservedly) won.

Bette Davis for What Ever Happened to Baby Jane in 1962 . She was robbed of it by co-star Joan Crawford's behind-the-scenes machinations. Davis would have become the first woman to win a Best Actress Oscar three times. Instead, Kate Hepburn - who Davis famously said she wanted to look like - was the first triple winner in 1981 (On Golden Pond).

We could start with the fact that Katharine Hepburn won her fourth Oscar for On Golden Pond, R78. Her third was for The Lion in Winter.

Indeed, I skipped over the third for Lion in Winter. My bad, you are correct R79.

Not R77 here but, like several others, you’ve missed the entire point of thread, R80. Bette Davis was actually nominated for Baby Jane. This thread is about performances that weren’t even nominated but could have been winners in their respective years.
Example: Linda Florentino in The Last Seduction.
