But, I think it’s always been very clear that Mulaney’s standup persona is highly artificial by design. The conflict between his white bread persona and the edgier elements of his routines was one of the more interesting things about him. But.... we all realized this was his schtick, right?

I went to law school with a guy who reminds me a lot of Mulaney. He was Catholic and tried to project this wholesome, sport jacket wearing image.

He also went to Georgetown and was a total closet case. He dated a woman who was much more fun loving and sexy. I could never figure that out. Then I realized in his mind he was dating “a bad girl” the way most guys would in high school.

My two theories: One, John and Olivia had this thing going on already and he asked for a divorce. Annamarie was aware of his addiction and using all along and decided to now use it against him and got his friends to do an intervention and get him into rehab to buy some time and make herself look good. John came out of rehab and asked for the divorce right of way, no change of heart and she was an enabler he couldn’t stay with and could now be free with Olivia.

Two, John went to rehab and met Olivia there and had a big rehab romance. Do we know where Olivia was for December and January, probably not?
