Is Jamie Gertz tremendous?
She's Brat Pack adjacent, but was never "in" like them. IMO, she's more interesting. Not a traditional beauty and not even "hot" in an obvious way. But, interesting to look at and a distinct acting tenor.
Do you like Jamie Gertz or do you think she's trash, or just don't care one way or the other?
I brought this up because I was watching Less Than Zero for the first time in years.

She was great on Square Pegs. I just watched it a few years ago. The running gag of the kid she sponsored somewhere in Africa was very funny. I remember one episode where they were rasing money to get the kid coolots. (I can't spell it)

I liked her Midwestern kookiness. Better in comedies imho.

She played the most annoying character in movie history in Twister. I still sometimes say in her country accent "HE'S NOT TALKIN' BOUT MAH BILLY?"

There have been quite a few threads about her on DL, OP. Here's a link to one of the good ones.

Not a traditional beauty? Well, if you mean that she doesn't look like every other bland white girl that you can see at any mall in Anywhere, USA, then you are correct. But with that enviable head of long raven hair, those big brown eyes and that bone structure, she was certainly a looker in her day.

sadly, I see or hear the words "tremendous" or "disaster" and I think of the forever ex president, those being two of his most overused words, not sure who Jamie Gertz is, but she has to be better than the orange guy.

She's tremendously wealthy, courtesy of her husband.
Jami always seemed just about to break through in the '80s, but somehow never quite did. Her Muffy Tepperman was singled out by critics who otherwise were mixed regarding Square Pegs, and after its one season ended, she moved into film, very much a step up back then. She did some clunkers (Solarbabies, anyone?), then re-emerged circa 1987 in Less Than Zero (not well-received) and then in a huge hit in '88, Lost Boys.
In 1989 she married, and although she's appeared in various things since, I think her real career has been rich guy's wife and mother to three sons. Not a bad gig.

She was discovered by Norman Lear in a "nationwide talent search." But Lear probably didn't look too hard — he likely found her in Northwestern's summer program for high school students, which I desperately wanted to attend but couldn't afford, and which Jami Gertz's name was plastered all over in the early '90s.
Square Pegs was an Embassy production, like Facts of Life. A vestige of Norman Lear's big '70s company that produced all his big hits.

The Lost Boys was in 1987, was made before and came out before Less Than Zero.
After Square Pegs, she went back and forth between TV and film, with guest spots on Diff’rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Family Ties, and a starring role on the short-lived Dreams with John Stamos. Her pre-Lost Boys films included Endless Love, Alphabet City, Sixteen Candles, Mischief, Quicksilver, Crossroads and the aforementioned Solarbabies.

Oh hey R32. How you doing?
She has a gorgeous head of hair. Silky, bouncing, behaving. Easily photogenic bone structure as well.
I think she's a fair comedic actress and she truly cracked me up on "Square Pegs" years ago. She really played that character to the hilt at a very young age and did a fine job doing so.
She married very well and apparently her mother did too! Good for them.

Her husband, Tony Ressler, together with his brother in law Leon Black, became private equity billionaires through the Apollo and Ares groups. This happened after he and Jami got married. Leon Black had to step back after some shady dealings with Jeffrey Epstein.

Always liked her - she was on a serious run in the 80's and then it just sort of stopped. I remember she was a mom on some fat husband and wife sitcom (Still Standing) and though - oh...noooooo Jami...whyyyyy???
That sitcom was a vehicle for Mark Addy - yet another Brit they tried to shove down our throats.

She played Gilda Radner and they were able to make Jami look like her rather easily.
If she were very pretty they wouldn’t have been able to do that.
