On the drive home that evening Lenny confronted Dominick and told him she planned to divorce him. Dunne became so distraught that he had to stop the car while he sobbed with his head on the steering wheel of the car.

He later admitted to friends that he had known their marriage was broken, but he was crying for life he knew he could no longer have without Lenny's fortune to support him.

As Dunne was dying of cancer in 2009, he had a series of long talks with a close friend about his intention to have an honest conversation with his son Griffin about his sexuality., a conversation he wanted to have before he died. Several days later the friend visited Dunne again and found his son Griffin there, still caring for his father, and he assumed the conversation had gone well.

As the friend sat at Dunne's bedside with Griffin in another part of the house, he asked Dunne about it. Dunne waived his hand dismissively at his friend and said, "Oh THAT, he doesn't need to know about ALL that."

Sinatra was a bully and a generally awful person, who did pay a longtime waiter to punch Dunne in the face at a high-profile restaurant outing. But Dunne led a tormented life and had issues of his own.

Frank Sinatra was a male borderline. When he met new people and liked them, he would shower them with gifts and attention until they did something he didn't like. Then he'd physically attack them or cut them off. A gorgeous singer and a shitty human being.

I remember being a little kid in a record store. I was holding a "Merry Christmas from Frank Sinatra" (or something like that) album and my dad came up behind me and said, "Yes, nothing says Christmas cheer like a song from a gangster."

I had no idea what he meant at the time.

I remember when NBC did a miniseries based on one of Dunne’s novels, TV Guide did an on set interview with him and wrote about how he told Connie Selleca to her face how wrong she was for the part. He was right, as she was a rotten television actress.

Dunne gets credit for totally reinventing himself.

His OJ articles for Vanity Fair and his books were quite a comeback from being drummed out of Hollywood.
