I agree. Cheryl did a good job replacing Farrah. Everyone was worried it wouldn't work out but it did. I like season 1 and 2! But Cheryl also got by because there were still two original Angels on board. Once Kate left the show suffered and no replacement could save it. There wasn't much Shelley could do about it. A Datalounger who worked on the Charlie’s Angels set tells it like it is. Someone who was never interviewed because he was a no-name but he witnessed some stuff when Kate, Farrah, Jaclyn and a certain Cheryl were there. You won't be surprised to hear what he says about Ladd.

And for someone who was plucked from obscurity she acted like her shit didn't stink. She ordered people around like she was the Queen of Sheba. I remember her ordering someone to get her a soft drink once, and the poor girl brought her the wrong one. you would've thought the girl had killed her dog, the way that Ladd carried on. I know that Kate hated her for that shit. Kate was a pro-she never treated people like that. There was a rumor going around the set once that Kate and Jackie called her "the witch" behind her back, and that wouldn't surprise me. She was not a nice person.

Plus, Ladd and her husband were BIG time Republicans. And very conservative. Now, this did not sit well with Jackson who was always a big liberal. I have no idea what Jackie was politically, but when Ladd started talking politics, Jackie would apparently always find some polite excuse to leave.

You have to understand- Farrah had been a ray of sunshine on that set. She was always so goddamn pleasant and happy. :) Then Ladd comes along, and she's a little bitch who acts like the world owes her something, and that she should be treated like a Queen. That creates a LOT of tension, particularly given the comparison. And Ladd really didn't have much interest in befriending the other girls anyway- she was really not a friendly girl"

Told me her girlfriend was another actress, but I don’t remember who he said. This dude was a mess, so who knows. I asked him if he was SURE he meant Cheryl Ladd, and he was adamant. Seems like a weirdly random thing to make up, but again, consider the source.

Then they tried to "fix" her to be like the other angels, and it aged her 20 years.

I've told this before here, but in 1982 Kate Jackson came into the small business in NYC where I worked to open a phone answering account. With her was Marcia Strassman. Both of them were very big tv stars at the time and we were very excited to see big stars in our little office.

Both were very friendly, relaxed and super cool while we chatted about prices and such. What we all noticed that shocked us was by how openly butch and gay they seemed, like flannel shirt/softball team lesbians. They were acting like a couple and were so openly dykish, we were amazed. It was a low-paying office job and most of us were very young and we rarely saw our clients in person, especially the more well-known clients.

Since then I assumed both women were gay.

A lot is coming out now about how Kate sabotaged poor Shelley Hack’s role on the show. Kate pretty quickly regretted walking away from Charlie’s Angels and wanted back in. But Sada Thompson was already being tested for the “Tiffany” slot and Kate couldn’t very well take on an Emmy Award winning actress with Broadway experience. She’d have to bide her time.

Sada was pretty quickly let go when she insisted on wearing mom jeans and flat heels in every scene, and it’s then that exasperated costume designer Nolan Miller pushed for Shelley. And America fell in love with that girl.

Kate was incensed and used dirt she had on Aaron Spelling and coproducer Robert Wagner to have the role of Tiffany whittled down smaller and smaller, and to force them to use Shelley’s bad takes. Kate also still had Jaclyn Smith’s ear, and that didn’t help.

It was a relentless, full-on onslaught against innocent Shelley, the likes of which hasn’t been seen on a prime time TV series before or since. And that jealous dyke Kate was pulling the strings.

How Kate can sleep at night I’ll never know.

I'm the one whose "Thin Ice" review was posted upthread. I watched another 1981 TV movie of Kate's last weekend: "Inmates: A Love Story," costarring Perry King. They're in a coed institution and he works a kitchen job; she empties trash bins. I wanted to include "As a thin womon, Jackson's surprisingly useful on garbage duty" in the review, but non-DLers wouldn't have understood.

You can find that film on YouTube. King, in the prime of his beauty, is shirtless a couple times, but the camera's not as lascivious as some viewers might've preferred.

A Kate Jackson movie that I really like is "The Stranger Within" from 1990, directed by Tom Holland, who also did the original Child's Play and Fright Night. It's about a young man claiming to be Kate Jackson's son who was kidnapped as a child. Of course, not everything about him is as it seems.
