Gale Harold did a few episodes of Desperate Housewives. Randy Harrison did some (unconvincing) stage work in NY. Anyone do anything noteworthy?
WHET to the cast of the American version of Queer as Folk?

These talentless hacks were not even a footnote in TV history.
There is an a single negative stereotype that that show did not reinforce. Even the name is hate speech. Being expected to like crap just because gay people made it is why gay men still stay in the closet.

Peter Paige made that creepy movie with Kathy Najimy where he played a single gay man who approaches and plays with strangers' kids. Unbelievably creepy.

R4- QAF was a MEDIOCRE show at best , but at least it didn't feature a EUNUCH FAGGOT character like Will on Will and Grace . He was a GAY URBAN FAGGOT fantasy for straight women. He'll take you dancing and to the theater and you can sit in the park and check out and gossip about the cute guys- YUCK.

R1-Ha
That guy with the GRUBBY head from The Cosby Show was found to be working in a Trader Joe's in New Jersey.
I like Trader Joe's and they pay a good wage but it's still a letdown for an actor.

The American version was such crap. It was popular because gays were desperate for representation at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 13, 2021 4:54 PM |
Are you ready for the reboot? I'm not, after reading this:
As the series is set in New Orleans, we are all hoping to see more people of color, and specifically, Black queer men, on this iteration of Queer as Folk. Including trans and more female characters (and their sex scenes!) wouldn't hurt either. But most of all, we're excited to see queer actors play roles where they can be proudly out and get the focus their stories deserve.

Michelle Clunie became Bryan Singer's babymomma.

We wanted GOOD representation. We wanted gay characters who are multi-dimensional and believable played by actors who can actually act, not bland prettyboys.

I know, right?

The American QAF was about sexual freedom being expressed on television. You didn't just see furtive groping, you got the whole thing - sucking, fucking, post-coital pillow talk. It was groundbreaking in that regard. The writing and some of the acting, however, was atrocious.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 14, 2021 1:00 AM |
Then it wasn't worth it. Who cares if a show is "groundbreaking" if it reinforces hurtful stereotypes of gay people in addition to being badly written and acted?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 14, 2021 1:01 AM |
We were hungry for sexuality that was honestly expressed that wasn't pornography. So in some ways, in the beginning at least, R17, I believe that it was worth it. I loved Sharon Gless in it. She was the best actor in the whole cast.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 14, 2021 1:05 AM |
R18- ACTRESS not actor
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 14, 2021 1:08 AM |
It was worse than pornography because at least pornography doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. The producers projected their own internalized homophobia onto this show's critics; those critics were right then and even more right now.

As DLers know all to well, the show was immensely popular with straight female viewers, some of whom became obsessed with Harold and Harrison in the same way that we now see happening with Hammer and Chalamet.
There are dozens if not hundreds of DL threads about them

Those fans were legit scary r21. I remember one of them claimed they paid a voodoo “priestess” or something to cast a spell so that Brian and the twink guy’s characters would end up together. Just a bizarre group.

Hal Sparks is a homophobe. He compared kissing a man to kissing a dog which is the same as comparing homosexuality to bestiality.

Agree R24
They were still very active when I found DL three or four years ago.
One of the first threads I'd (naively) read was one of them bragging that she's somehow tricked one of Harold's cousins into letting her follow her on Instagram by pretending to be someone the cousin knew in high school. Purpose being to maker her way through all the photos the cousin had posted over the years, in the hopes of finding Gale in one of them.
It was one of those "we're not in Kansas" moments.

I'm baffled as to why a 20 year old show sets you off so much R33.
You've posted around 10 times on this thread about how much you loathe the show.

I really hate soap operas, so I've never once posted in a thread about them.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 14, 2021 1:32 AM |
God, hard to believe it was 20 years ago. Equally hard to believe it was ONLY 20 years ago.
Gale Harold did a few things (Vanished, Desperate Housewives, Hellcats, The Secret Circle, Defiance) along with a handful of cameos.
Hal Sparks did several guest spots, and a couple of series I never heard of.
Randy Harrison hasn't done much at all (one series "New York Is Dead" and a few guest spots or bit parts).
Peter Paige seems to be keeping busy, with lots of producer credits, some writing credits, and some acting credits.
Scott Lowell seems to be doing fine, working on series like American Dad, Bones, Adaptable, and a lot of guest-spot appearances on other shows.
Robert Gant has probably had the best career, with TV and Movie roles galore.

The reboot sounds like it will be a dreary woke slog of QUEER BIPOC TRANS TRANS TRANS NON-BINARY writers creations (all of them SASSY yet victimized!) which will look like a sequel to the embarrassing POSE and kill off the IP for good.
I could be wrong, but...
