no thanks.

by Anonymousreply 1March 27, 2021 1:44 AM

Think what they could do with the dancing baby with today’s CGI!

by Anonymousreply 2March 27, 2021 1:45 AM

Do any reboots succeed?

by Anonymousreply 3March 27, 2021 1:50 AM

I know there are intelligent, talented people that go to Hollywood to make a name for themselves -- but they are rarely allowed to do things in an original manner.

I really just don't understand it. I guess us consumers just prefer it that way and every now and then some do blossom despite the system.

by Anonymousreply 4March 27, 2021 1:52 AM

Ally McBeal is attorney and fixer for a mysterious oligarchical billionaire family (of Vampires) living in Southern California.

that's why i gave up on writing r4. i really couldn't stomach giving up my own desire for telling a story the way i saw it. most writers write like every other writer, they follow exactly the stories that are making money, no originality. i just can't do that.

by Anonymousreply 6March 27, 2021 1:56 AM

Wow, network TV has really thrown in the towel. Seems like every "new" show that's premiered in recent years is a reboot of some show from the 80s or 90—often, not even a particularly good show.

by Anonymousreply 7March 27, 2021 2:03 AM

You might not believe this R6 but I truly believe you are better off. Integrity is probably a dirty word to those people. I mean Jesus - why can't people be awarded and celebrated for going their own way? Little boxes.

Good luck to you R6. I hope you are happy and fulfilled in whatever path you took.

by Anonymousreply 8March 27, 2021 2:10 AM

R7, there are 7 billion totally new totally original shows on right now. Streaming television is being spread thin with each needing to fill up their libraries and entice people to subscribe. Bringing back old favorites is a marketing ploy as the fan base is already locked in. You can’t bring over people to watch new shows they don’t have access to. Old shows they know what they’re about.

by Anonymousreply 9March 27, 2021 2:10 AM

Streaming has originality, yes?

by Anonymousreply 10March 27, 2021 2:11 AM

The reason for all these reboots is the 80s and 90s was the last time there were good shows. Then it went all reality show. No one has ideas or knows how to write anything. If they do they go to cable and streaming services. The networks have no good people with ideas anymore.

by Anonymousreply 11March 27, 2021 2:19 AM

Ally will be black.

by Anonymousreply 12March 27, 2021 2:29 AM

Cast Nathan Fillion....He will be free after Rookie gets cancelled in May....Cast him heterosexual, otherwise it won't be believable (to him). Bring Josh Groban on as his "roommate"...

by Anonymousreply 13March 27, 2021 2:32 AM

Video Clip...(4:30)..Hot James Marsden singing Elvis on Ally McBeal....They got rid of him for Jon Bon Jovi?....That's when I knew cancellation was coming..

by Anonymousreply 14March 27, 2021 2:38 AM

James Marsden still looks fabulous today. Christa is pushing 60.

by Anonymousreply 15March 27, 2021 2:40 AM

Bygones.

by Anonymousreply 16March 27, 2021 2:42 AM
r7, there are 7 billion totally new totally original shows on right now. Streaming television is being spread thin

I was talking about network television. Streaming television is indeed being spread thin, but it's (mostly) not rebooting crappy shows from 25–35 years ago and you can still find plenty of interesting, original shows among the crap that was obviously churned out just to get something new on the platform.

by Anonymousreply 17March 27, 2021 2:48 AM

Streaming seems interesting. I don’t have that. I should check it out.

by Anonymousreply 18March 27, 2021 2:49 AM

Will she be body positive?

by Anonymousreply 19March 27, 2021 2:51 AM

If you mean only eating an apple a week, I guess yes.

Is she still fucking Harrison Ford?

by Anonymousreply 20March 27, 2021 2:53 AM
Is she still fucking Harrison Ford?

Harrison is shitting his diaper.

by Anonymousreply 21March 27, 2021 2:56 AM

Just log onto AOL with your dial up and find out more!

by Anonymousreply 22March 27, 2021 2:56 AM

They're still married, r20. Whether they still fuck, I have no clue.

by Anonymousreply 23March 27, 2021 2:57 AM

Josh Groban can plan the gay office gossip who is going from MALE to FEMALE and back to MALE (because thats edgy, and YES it happens!!)......LoL

by Anonymousreply 24March 27, 2021 2:59 AM

Waddle

by Anonymousreply 25March 27, 2021 3:00 AM

I don’t think anybody is really crying out for this to happen. It seems rather random. The twin peaks reboot was exciting but I think they realised that since twin peaks originally aired there have been many shows that copied that brand of quirkiness that it just wasn’t that interesting or unique anymore. I think the same is going to be true of ally McBeal which I think was only good for the first couple of seasons anyway.

by Anonymousreply 26March 27, 2021 3:00 AM
Do any reboots succeed?

Well R3 so far Charmed, MacGyver, Dynasty, Saved by the Bell & Roswell all succeeded.

Fuller House is done but lasted for a while and completed its run. Lost in Space will complete its run this upcoming season.

The Connors (reboot of Roseanne) is one of the highest rated, if not the (in season 1 & 2) highest rated show on the network.

by Anonymousreply 27March 27, 2021 3:03 AM

Lost its appeal quickly. Got creepy when the female leads stopped eating food.

by Anonymousreply 28March 27, 2021 3:05 AM

Starring Calista or re-casting with another anorexic actress?

by Anonymousreply 29March 27, 2021 3:09 AM

Can I be the anorexia sweeping through the female cast?

(David E. Kelley should be called out for that.)

by Anonymousreply 30March 27, 2021 3:12 AM

Creativity is running abound with all the snide anorexia comments.

by Anonymousreply 31March 27, 2021 3:14 AM

"Cindy, this is a skeleton, this is bones! Would you run from Calista Flockhart?!"

by Anonymousreply 32March 27, 2021 3:15 AM

R31 well really what else is there to talk about? Haydn panettiere as her long lost daughter?

by Anonymousreply 33March 27, 2021 3:18 AM

The funniest joke I ever heard about Calista Flockhart was that when she tried to sit in a theater seat, it launches her.

by Anonymousreply 34March 27, 2021 3:19 AM

This one will have Ally being a healthy weight lifestyle advocate

by Anonymousreply 35March 27, 2021 3:20 AM

I've heard it will be called Two-and-a-Half Attorneys, with Calista and Chrissy Metz as the titular characters.

by Anonymousreply 36March 27, 2021 3:33 AM

R36– Chrissy is more than 2 1/2 people and Calista is like 1/10th a person

by Anonymousreply 37March 27, 2021 3:37 AM
Well [R3] so far Charmed, MacGyver, Dynasty, Saved by the Bell & Roswell all succeeded

Calling what Dynasty is doing a success is a wee stretch. It gets miniscule viewers but enough for the CW, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 38March 27, 2021 5:05 AM

I'm the drunk guy who posts 2 videos a day for all my FB friends to enjoy. I don't even realize they are watching to laugh at me drunk. I just think they like the way I review tacos and tv shows.

by Anonymousreply 39March 27, 2021 6:20 AM

I'd like to think Ally eventually died of a brain tumor that was the root cause of all her hallucinations after the series finale.

by Anonymousreply 40March 27, 2021 10:51 AM

I remember watching and enjoying the first couple of seasons, but have no memory of how it ended or even what happened the last season.

I remember liking Lucy Liu. And how thin Portia got.

by Anonymousreply 41March 27, 2021 11:23 AM

I remember it all being fun until one episode where age starts having some kind of breakdown. I think she was crying a lot. I just remember it went from dancing babies, horsehung boyfriends and quirky cases to suddenly ally having a mental breakdown. And Nelle, didn’t she have a sudden personality change after John spanked her with a brush? It was so long ago...

by Anonymousreply 42March 27, 2021 12:05 PM
Calling what Dynasty is doing a success is a wee stretch. It gets miniscule viewers but enough for the CW, I guess.

R14, All the shows on CW have lower ratings compared to most networks, as you said.

Will & Grace's reboot barely made 3 seasons.

One Day at A Time's reboot lasted 4 seasons but they also got cancelled and moved during that time before getting cancelled again.

The Chilling Tales of Sabrina lasted 5 seasons before it got cancelled.

Dynasty, on the other hand, was just renewed for a 5th season. So yes, it's a success in that it's still on and hasn't been cancelled yet.

by Anonymousreply 43March 27, 2021 7:28 PM

Whoops, should have been R38.

by Anonymousreply 44March 27, 2021 7:29 PM

They should bring back Allie's best friend, that black girl that eventually went crazy.

by Anonymousreply 46March 28, 2021 1:57 AM
Well [R3] so far Charmed, MacGyver, Dynasty, Saved by the Bell & Roswell all succeeded.

Which is baffling because Charmed and Roswell suck.

by Anonymousreply 47March 28, 2021 5:51 AM

Does Ally still weigh 73 pounds or did she eat a lean cuisine?

by Anonymousreply 48March 28, 2021 6:11 AM

She weighs 76 now but she lost actual weight and got 5 pounds of filler in her face.

by Anonymousreply 49March 28, 2021 6:24 AM

The only way this can work is if Chrissy Metz played Ally this many years later.

by Anonymousreply 50March 28, 2021 6:29 AM

Wow, how "girl power" will it be now, given how it was back then?

by Anonymousreply 51March 28, 2021 6:41 AM

I only watched because I thought Robert Downey Jr. was cute and gay

by Anonymousreply 52March 28, 2021 7:02 AM

I read that the other women were asked to lose weight so Ally didn't seem so skinny in comparison. She looked healthy in the first season.

by Anonymousreply 53March 28, 2021 7:20 AM

She looked totally normal the first season. She got movie star aspirations after the first season took off and she thought she needed to be rail thin. She also was very dishonest about her weight issue. Anyone could see looking at her she had a problem.

by Anonymousreply 54March 28, 2021 7:24 AM

gak.....go bak to the retiremen home lady, we done with ur crud.

Sure! You bet!

by Anonymousreply 57March 28, 2021 7:50 AM

I remember she fainted on the set once and her publicists insisted, “She’s just overworked!”

by Anonymousreply 58March 28, 2021 8:06 AM

R52 You were half right - he’s gay.

by Anonymousreply 59March 28, 2021 8:06 AM

R52 Robert is bi.

by Anonymousreply 60March 28, 2021 10:15 AM

R60 Sure. He’s never been “cute,” though. Unobjectionable, certainly. Never, ever cute.

by Anonymousreply 61March 28, 2021 10:23 AM

Oh God, what are they going to reboot next?

by Anonymousreply 62March 28, 2021 10:31 AM

I still have my Vonda Shepard CD

by Anonymousreply 63March 28, 2021 10:36 AM

Snappish!

by Anonymousreply 64March 28, 2021 10:39 AM

"Ally MCBone", she looked grey and had grey teeth. She lost hair too and had three strands of hair standing up on her head near the end.

by Anonymousreply 65March 28, 2021 2:51 PM

I know the show lasted into the 2000s, but it was very 90s. Some things are ripe for reboot, but Ally McBeal isn't one of them.

by Anonymousreply 66March 28, 2021 2:56 PM

Vomiting up my lunch as I type! David E, call me!

by Anonymousreply 67March 28, 2021 3:03 PM

18 inch waist.

Don't hate.

by Anonymousreply 69March 29, 2021 12:51 AM

R63 I saw Vonda Shepard live in concert at a city park in 1999!

by Anonymousreply 70March 29, 2021 12:53 AM

Courtney Thorne Smith quit the show because she couldn’t handle the competitive dieting madness on the set.

I loved her character, though, and thought she looked ideal. I even suggested my friend name her daughter Georgia (which she did) tho I never told her why.

by Anonymousreply 71March 29, 2021 1:38 AM

No diet, just stopped eating food and nearly killed themselves doing it.

by Anonymousreply 72March 29, 2021 2:14 AM

omg dat ho dat plays ally is soooo lame. she as vanilla boring as dried dirt.

by Anonymousreply 73March 29, 2021 10:37 PM

I doubt Jane Krakowski would return, she went on to bigger things.

Ally actually looked better in the last season, she looked healthier. She looked great in season one and parts of season 3.

by Anonymousreply 74March 29, 2021 11:02 PM

Why would anyone wanna see that skinny boring bitch kvetch more/??

by Anonymousreply 75March 29, 2021 11:50 PM

How do you know Robert is Bi?

by Anonymousreply 76March 30, 2021 9:34 AM

She was still pretty skinny on Supergirl. Plus they added some weird filter for her face.

by Anonymousreply 77March 30, 2021 12:51 PM

We have to look at this pitiful pipsqueak again???????? NO

by Anonymousreply 78March 30, 2021 4:18 PM

My bisexuality was manufactured by the media R60!

by Anonymousreply 79March 30, 2021 5:34 PM

I liked the show until it became a total CGI fest. The episode where Ally and Lucy Lui's character Ling are representing a little boy dying of cancer, and at the end of the episode, cold-hearted Ling walks out of the hospital alone and bursts into sobbing tears was great.

by Anonymousreply 80March 30, 2021 5:53 PM

R80 don't forget she rented a blimp to restore Ally's faith in God.

They usually did one really emotional episode per season. In S1 it was the cute young cross dresser whom Ally saved from jail, who got murdered at the end of the episode.

by Anonymousreply 81March 30, 2021 7:25 PM

I remember that episode. It ended up with Ally putting makeup on her corpse because she said "Even if I die I still want to look good" or something like that

by Anonymousreply 82March 31, 2021 1:40 AM

This takes me back to the Ally McBeal is biphobic episode where Ally falls for a bisexual man (played by the handsome, "was on every show of the 00s" Mark Feuerstein) then realizes she's actually homophobic.

The episode ends when she almost reconsiders being with him then has a vision of him kissing a man, is disgusted and then leaves.

Callista should stay away from strong winds. Wasn't that how they killed off Lara Flynn Boyle's character on Las Vegas? She blew off the roof of the hotel?

by Anonymousreply 84March 31, 2021 2:43 AM

R82 yes, her family would not collect the body

R83 shows how far we've come in 20 years. Still lots of (females) who wouldn't date a bisexual man. Sex And The City had a similar "storyline".

R84 Lara had a cameo in season 2. She looks Ally up and down and says something like "Maybe you should eat a cookie". Ally smiles and says "Maybe we could share it.."

Good Times

how many razzies did she and her show win? she seemed sick.

by Anonymousreply 87March 31, 2021 9:28 PM

Calista deserved an Emmy for both first and second season, she was robbed both times by that boring Helen Hunt.

by Anonymousreply 88March 31, 2021 10:28 PM

she deserved the boot after the first episode.....and deserved every razzie she got

by Anonymousreply 89March 31, 2021 11:18 PM

Meh.

by Anonymousreply 90March 31, 2021 11:29 PM

R83 Bryn needs to get a grip 😆

by Anonymousreply 91April 2, 2021 6:29 AM

There was a fucking petition to cancel the reboot of [italic]Saved by the fucking Bell[/italic]. I know; I signed it!

by Anonymousreply 92April 2, 2021 6:32 AM

Hopefully it’s during the post COVID world and they’re wearing masks and working remotely.

by Anonymousreply 93April 2, 2021 6:36 AM

R83 How is that any different from gays retching and making faces at the thought/sight of heterosexual sex, especially a naked woman and her lady parts? We see that often here on DL.

by Anonymousreply 94April 2, 2021 8:10 AM

That's different. Gays are expected to conform to heterosexual norms despite finding heterosexual sex unpleasurable.

by Anonymousreply 95April 2, 2021 8:13 AM
