Do any reboots succeed?

I know there are intelligent, talented people that go to Hollywood to make a name for themselves -- but they are rarely allowed to do things in an original manner.

I really just don't understand it. I guess us consumers just prefer it that way and every now and then some do blossom despite the system.

Ally McBeal is attorney and fixer for a mysterious oligarchical billionaire family (of Vampires) living in Southern California.

that's why i gave up on writing r4. i really couldn't stomach giving up my own desire for telling a story the way i saw it. most writers write like every other writer, they follow exactly the stories that are making money, no originality. i just can't do that.

Wow, network TV has really thrown in the towel. Seems like every "new" show that's premiered in recent years is a reboot of some show from the 80s or 90—often, not even a particularly good show.

You might not believe this R6 but I truly believe you are better off. Integrity is probably a dirty word to those people. I mean Jesus - why can't people be awarded and celebrated for going their own way? Little boxes.

R7, there are 7 billion totally new totally original shows on right now. Streaming television is being spread thin with each needing to fill up their libraries and entice people to subscribe. Bringing back old favorites is a marketing ploy as the fan base is already locked in. You can’t bring over people to watch new shows they don’t have access to. Old shows they know what they’re about.

Streaming has originality, yes?

The reason for all these reboots is the 80s and 90s was the last time there were good shows. Then it went all reality show. No one has ideas or knows how to write anything. If they do they go to cable and streaming services. The networks have no good people with ideas anymore.

Ally will be black.

Cast Nathan Fillion....He will be free after Rookie gets cancelled in May....Cast him heterosexual, otherwise it won't be believable (to him). Bring Josh Groban on as his "roommate"...

I was talking about network television. Streaming television is indeed being spread thin, but it's (mostly) not rebooting crappy shows from 25–35 years ago and you can still find plenty of interesting, original shows among the crap that was obviously churned out just to get something new on the platform.

Streaming seems interesting. I don’t have that. I should check it out.

I don’t think anybody is really crying out for this to happen. It seems rather random. The twin peaks reboot was exciting but I think they realised that since twin peaks originally aired there have been many shows that copied that brand of quirkiness that it just wasn’t that interesting or unique anymore. I think the same is going to be true of ally McBeal which I think was only good for the first couple of seasons anyway.

Fuller House is done but lasted for a while and completed its run. Lost in Space will complete its run this upcoming season.

The Connors (reboot of Roseanne) is one of the highest rated, if not the (in season 1 & 2) highest rated show on the network.

Lost its appeal quickly. Got creepy when the female leads stopped eating food.

Starring Calista or re-casting with another anorexic actress?

Creativity is running abound with all the snide anorexia comments.

I've heard it will be called Two-and-a-Half Attorneys, with Calista and Chrissy Metz as the titular characters.

Calling what Dynasty is doing a success is a wee stretch. It gets miniscule viewers but enough for the CW, I guess.

I'm the drunk guy who posts 2 videos a day for all my FB friends to enjoy. I don't even realize they are watching to laugh at me drunk. I just think they like the way I review tacos and tv shows.

I'd like to think Ally eventually died of a brain tumor that was the root cause of all her hallucinations after the series finale.

I remember watching and enjoying the first couple of seasons, but have no memory of how it ended or even what happened the last season.

I remember liking Lucy Liu. And how thin Portia got.

I remember it all being fun until one episode where age starts having some kind of breakdown. I think she was crying a lot. I just remember it went from dancing babies, horsehung boyfriends and quirky cases to suddenly ally having a mental breakdown. And Nelle, didn’t she have a sudden personality change after John spanked her with a brush? It was so long ago...

R14, All the shows on CW have lower ratings compared to most networks, as you said.

Will & Grace's reboot barely made 3 seasons.

One Day at A Time's reboot lasted 4 seasons but they also got cancelled and moved during that time before getting cancelled again.

The Chilling Tales of Sabrina lasted 5 seasons before it got cancelled.

Dynasty, on the other hand, was just renewed for a 5th season. So yes, it's a success in that it's still on and hasn't been cancelled yet.

She weighs 76 now but she lost actual weight and got 5 pounds of filler in her face.

The only way this can work is if Chrissy Metz played Ally this many years later.

I read that the other women were asked to lose weight so Ally didn't seem so skinny in comparison. She looked healthy in the first season.

She looked totally normal the first season. She got movie star aspirations after the first season took off and she thought she needed to be rail thin. She also was very dishonest about her weight issue. Anyone could see looking at her she had a problem.

"Ally MCBone", she looked grey and had grey teeth. She lost hair too and had three strands of hair standing up on her head near the end.

I know the show lasted into the 2000s, but it was very 90s. Some things are ripe for reboot, but Ally McBeal isn't one of them.

R63 I saw Vonda Shepard live in concert at a city park in 1999!

Courtney Thorne Smith quit the show because she couldn’t handle the competitive dieting madness on the set.

I loved her character, though, and thought she looked ideal. I even suggested my friend name her daughter Georgia (which she did) tho I never told her why.

No diet, just stopped eating food and nearly killed themselves doing it.

I doubt Jane Krakowski would return, she went on to bigger things.

Ally actually looked better in the last season, she looked healthier. She looked great in season one and parts of season 3.

I liked the show until it became a total CGI fest. The episode where Ally and Lucy Lui's character Ling are representing a little boy dying of cancer, and at the end of the episode, cold-hearted Ling walks out of the hospital alone and bursts into sobbing tears was great.

R80 don't forget she rented a blimp to restore Ally's faith in God.

They usually did one really emotional episode per season. In S1 it was the cute young cross dresser whom Ally saved from jail, who got murdered at the end of the episode.

I remember that episode. It ended up with Ally putting makeup on her corpse because she said "Even if I die I still want to look good" or something like that

This takes me back to the Ally McBeal is biphobic episode where Ally falls for a bisexual man (played by the handsome, "was on every show of the 00s" Mark Feuerstein) then realizes she's actually homophobic.

The episode ends when she almost reconsiders being with him then has a vision of him kissing a man, is disgusted and then leaves.

Callista should stay away from strong winds. Wasn't that how they killed off Lara Flynn Boyle's character on Las Vegas? She blew off the roof of the hotel?

R82 yes, her family would not collect the body

R83 shows how far we've come in 20 years. Still lots of (females) who wouldn't date a bisexual man. Sex And The City had a similar "storyline".

R84 Lara had a cameo in season 2. She looks Ally up and down and says something like "Maybe you should eat a cookie". Ally smiles and says "Maybe we could share it.."
