I was watching First Wives Club the other day and SJP was hilarious. Makes me wonder what kind of a career she would have had without SATC. Probably lots of indie films and theatre. R47, a friend/colleague had similar a similar encounter. She was at my friend's retail store promoting her fragrance and she described her as shockingly cool (although her people were total dicks). On the sales floor when interacting with the public she was, of course, very PR-focused, but behind the scenes in the stock rooms she would just sit and gab with people non-chalantly and was very chill and kind generally. They had a private area for her but she really never went in there except to get touched up. Otherwise, she just sat out with all the staff and was very friendly

A few years ago I was driving around the Hamptons with a couple of friends when one of them spotted her, Matthew, and the kids getting out of their car. Fuck it. I stopped. My friend rolls down the window, and said he loved her. She came over to the car and was as gracious as anyone could be. Matthew just silently stood there looking grumpy.

I think there are a couple of things at play in gay men's hatred of her. First off, they're confusing her with her shallow, narcissistic, self-absorbed character; they're unable to separate the two. She set off the increase of women going to gay spaces, not there to really be allies, but simply for their egos to be cool and edgy. The way that series showed these women being viewed as goddesses when they made an entrance into a gay bar was absolutely absurd. somebody once gave me the box set for Christmas, and I told him that they could take it back.

This show certainly helped increase NYC’s cache with a lot of young people. Same for Chicago for Midwest SATC fans. People wanted that glamorous city life.

MTV’s The Hills did the same with LA. So many girls in college did trips to LA with a mandatory dinner at Nobu since it was heavily featured on the show.

I like SJP, but some of the SJP fans need to get a grip about the extent of her talents.

SJP is and always was a pretty decent actress with good comic chops and a sly intelligence, even as a kid (see SQUARE PEGS). She was unusual looking but matured into a sexy young woman who made the most of her face and body. She had presence--see L.A. STORY or ED WOOD or MIAMI RHAPSODY--she's quite winning in all of them. But she was never going to break out of the supporting parts or leads in little indie films, so she seized the SATC opportunity and ran with it. Unfortunately, most of us tired of Carrie long before she did. And her abortive rom-com career after SATC (remember DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE MORGANS?) didn't endear her to new audiences.

Sarah is smart and pragmatic. She probably knew her abilities, her looks, and her box-office appeal were all limited, and she made the most of them. I just wish she'd enjoy her kajillions and stop selling herself so hard.

PS: I also know of people in NYC (not connected to SATC) who have nice things to say about her personally. I just wish she had better taste in friends instead of shallow, odious queens like Andy Cohen, Anderson Cooper, or John Benjamin Hickey. Uggh. I read about professional maids from a Reddit thread. They said that the working class that can afford help are 50/50 polite to annoying. The new money types that have enough to move out of the working class are typically the worst to work for. They try to fake it by over compensating or are quick to snap at the help because they’ve finally arrived and expect things to be perfect. Their communication is typically not up to par with those born wealthy because they are faking it to make it. So Sarah has some “outlandish” demands for her home that amount to, “I’m too rich to run out of anything so keep everything stocked to the brim.”

My grandmother had strict rules about eating and snacking so to compensate my mother made it a rule that children in her home can eat whatever they want. When we ran low my mom would just buy more because she growing up in my grandmother’s home effected my mom’s view on food.

All these bitchy comments about her get under my skin. I've worked with her (I used to be a costar's stand-in) and she was always so nice. And I don't mean just the professional, fake nice--which can sometimes be condescending as Hell--but genuinely sweet. She talks to EVERYONE on the set and isn't a big dressing room dweller between takes. Like a poster upthread said about her hanging out in a stock room in a store, she does the same on set and really gets to know people. She knew when my mom passed away, she asked about me and my family. . .she was just too kind. Another time, my car broke down and she offered me a ride home. No nose in the air from her. She just threw a saddle on her back, told me to hop on, and away we went.

I have never met SJP and it is safe to say that I never will, but I wouldn't be surprised if the posters saying that she is friendly, polite and nice are telling the truth. Her refusal to let go of SATC and her posturing as a fashion maven may be irritating or ridiculous, but I have never read or heard anything about her being nasty or a bitch.

I worked with SJP on The Family Stone. She wasn't happy with her part but managed to be very friendly on the set. Whenever she got ornery, I would feed her an apple or some sugar cubes and she cheered up. She liked carrots, too. When people ask if she was difficult I say, "Neigh."

SJP didn't have to do much as far as makeup when she dressed up as Princess Ann for Halloween. All she needed to do was put on a matronly dress and a big hat.

Remember that SJP and the producers were the ones who made major $$$ off the TV series. SJP negotiated a great deal for herself and was named executive producer. The other ladies were making okay money by the end of the run, but weren't seeing major paychecks until the 2 (godawful) movies.

SJP never, ever takes on a project--a series, a movie role, a commercial endorsement--unless she is being extremely well compensated for it. Even her return to Broadway (PLAZA SUITE, with Matthew) feels like a major cash grab.

I never understood the hate for SJP, she a good (not great) actress, seems kind and Kim Cattrall aside everyone has nice things to say about her. I was surprised by how pretty she was in the 80s and early 90s. Like in Flight of The Navigator, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Hocus Pocus and Ed Wood. I was so used to hearing all the jokes about her being like a "horse" which I thought were kind of mean-spirited. I really think she needs to bring back her naturally curly hair and wear less makeup.
