Its 2021... do you still dress up when flying? I feel like in this world everyone is just wearing yoga pants and tank tops on the plane.
Do you STILL Dress Up for Flights?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 27, 2021 4:45 AM |
"Still?" What kind of desperate-for-attention dumbass ever "dressed up" for a flight?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 24, 2021 2:50 AM |
I dress like a flapper girl from the 1920s
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 24, 2021 2:50 AM |
Depends if you're hoping for an upgrade to business class. No yoga pants in business class!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 24, 2021 2:51 AM |
People who dress up are idiots. People who wear tank tops anywhere, period, are trash. Meet halfway and just dress like a normal person.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 24, 2021 2:51 AM |
R1 Oh dear! What kind of savage ARE you!?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 24, 2021 2:51 AM |
Only if I’m going on a business trip and I don’t have time to change.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 24, 2021 2:52 AM |
It depends where I'm going and why. I dress either "Casual, Jeans and a shirt" for most vacations. "Business Casual" if flying for business or to a casino.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 24, 2021 2:54 AM |
R1 thinks Dubya was the first U.S. president.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 24, 2021 2:55 AM |
I wear a full tux with tails
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 24, 2021 2:56 AM |
It’s 2021 in the middle of a pandemic. Who is flying anywhere?!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 24, 2021 3:05 AM |
I do!
I remember arriving in Port of Spain in my suit once. As soon as I got out the aircraft the humidity hit me.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 24, 2021 3:08 AM |
Of course I dress up for airline travel, and everyone I know does the same. Here I am, front left, on a recent flight.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 24, 2021 3:09 AM |
What's that?
A DC6?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 24, 2021 3:14 AM |
Yes! On plane is Best to look like glamor lady.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 24, 2021 3:16 AM |
Just because people are trash, doesn't mean we can't show some style and dignity.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 24, 2021 3:20 AM |
Haha r3, I was wearing yoga pants and I was upgraded to business class. For a 12 hour flight.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 24, 2021 6:39 AM |
It’s public transport, OP. Do you “dress up” for the subway or the bus?
And those of you who think that dressing up will get you upgraded - operational upgrades (i.e. “Opups”) are assigned by the airline’s yield management system based upon airline frequent flyer status, without anybody seeing what the traveller is wearing.
If you have travelled in international First or Business class you would know that most people definitely dress for comfort not style.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 24, 2021 7:00 AM |
Business casual, unless I'm flying one of the many brands of Garbage Air.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 24, 2021 7:14 AM |
"So you still dress up to fly" assumes that we're all over 70, as it's been at least 50 years since people did that.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 24, 2021 8:15 AM |
I never dress like a slob no matter where I'm going. This idea that being 'comfortable' means you are wearing shorts and a t-shirt is utter crap. I'm always comfortable in what I wear and I've never worn a t-shirt out of the house. Hell, I don't even own any t-shirts. The bottom line is that some people have style, others don't. Age doesn't matter.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 24, 2021 8:22 AM |
I don't wear white tie and tails but I try to look as if I didn't just climb out of a hay wagon.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 24, 2021 9:31 AM |
My most casual look is smart casual, so that's what I wear on aeroplanes. Some people are dirty slobs, though. I had a woman sit behind me and cross her legs into the aisle - she huffed and moaned every time someone tried to get past, but the worst part was her flip-flop clad feet were absolutely filthy.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 24, 2021 9:42 AM |
Was it just a year ago we didn’t need to wear a mask to get lit up while flying?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 24, 2021 10:26 AM |
Based on my experiences gathered on many business flights in and around Europe, but also from my limited experience in the US and Japan, airport and security staff will treat you much better if you're dressed for business. So, even when flying for pleasure, I'll always dress in business casual attire.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 24, 2021 10:36 AM |
I dress up for a flight, but when I travel, I were mostly knitwear: cashmere sweater and a Geiger-type jacket. It is comfortable, but shows a bit of effort. And yes, I have been bumped to first class a few times because I made the effort to look professional.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 24, 2021 10:38 AM |
I always fly first class, and my partner and I wear sport jackets and jeans. We detest the commoners in coach who walk by us in all sorts of tacky George-brand attire.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 24, 2021 12:41 PM |
I dress up for fights. A monocle and top hat, like Mr Peanut. Then I kick some ass and pull some hair.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 24, 2021 12:43 PM |
R28 You made my day with that post. :)
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 24, 2021 12:50 PM |
It has only been in the past year that I’ve started to occasionally wear jeans for a flight. Otherwise I’m still in khakis or slacks.
I used to really bemoan those who didn’t put their best foot forward when embarking upon a plane trip, but again that’s changed over this past year. I will admit that the Airport Cock Safari has been pretty enjoyable with all the sweatpants, shorts and other “Athleisurewear” on display. It gets even better considering the inclination of almost half these men to go commando.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 24, 2021 4:55 PM |
I have a bright yellow crocheted cap on my head. I wear a tank top that's too small and no bra so that the sides of my tits are falling out. My tattered flip flops expose my feet so filthy that you can barely make out the bright toe nail polish. And I have on my denim cut-offs that are cut so high you can read my labia. I might way 300 pounds, but I like to keep up with the Sharkeeshas.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 25, 2021 1:04 AM |
Yes! And I always have a couple of in-flight "Pepsis"!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 25, 2021 1:14 AM |
[quote] It’s public transport, OP. Do you “dress up” for the subway or the bus?
When you are paying hundreds of dollars, it is much different than subways or buses.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 25, 2021 2:46 AM |
[Quote]Haha [R3], I was wearing yoga pants and I was upgraded to business class. For a 12 hour flight.
Good for you. A colleague was actually upgraded to business class, but when he arrived at the gate to pick up his new boarding pass, the lady told him he was not allowed in business class with sweat pants and running shoes. This was a 14 hours flight so he was pissed he was not wearing better clothes.
But this was Lufthansa and Europe. Maybe they have higher standards for business class attire.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 25, 2021 7:00 AM |
All of my flights are long haul, 11+ hours. Comfort is key. Leggings, sweats, t-shirt, North Face jacket, nice Nikes. I had to pay for a biz/first-class seat because there was no steerage seat available when I flew 15+ hours to bury my Father. I showed up in the aforementioned attire. One of the airline employees took one look at me and started grumbling. I responded: "I paid over four thousand fucking dollars for the seat, the fucking flight is over 15 hours, I'll dress how I want". I was completely surprised when the airline employee shrugged and let me on the plane.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 25, 2021 7:22 AM |
Yes, but only when I can find my Playtex 18-Hour girdle!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 25, 2021 9:36 AM |
Since I'm not disgusting trash, you would never catch me in sweatpants or pajamas on a flight...or not wearing shoes at any point during the flight.
That said, I don't wear a suit either. Usually jeans, a nice shirt, and comfortable shoes.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 25, 2021 9:41 AM |
I dress nicely but with comfort in mind for the destination I am going to.
Anyone who doesn't is an idiot or trash.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 25, 2021 10:00 AM |
If one's flight lands after Labor Day, one must change one's white shoes in the lavatory before disembarkation.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 25, 2021 8:46 PM |
As a frequent flyer (pre-virus), amazed at the flip-flops, shorts and overly casual attire that I see. One wants to be comfortable, but I'm not interested in seeing your toes (that are in need of a pedicure), or smell your body odor.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 25, 2021 9:04 PM |
No! I'm going to be crammed in like a pretzel for at least 6 hours if not longer, maybe much longer, in the middle seat because husband wants the window. Unless I want to sit next to some other rando middle seat person when I'm on the aisle, I'm sort of stuck with this arrangement. Or sometimes I sit at the window behind or in front of him.
Pretzel person clothing needs to be comfortable. I never get the armrests either in these situations.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 25, 2021 9:08 PM |
“Still?” OP, what decade are you living in? Is there a pandemic in your universe??
I’m in my 50s and only flew as an adult. I’ve heard of the distant past but I’ve never experienced or witnessed it first hand.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 25, 2021 9:11 PM |
Since you have to take your shoes and belt off for pre flight screening it makes more sense to dress casually.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 25, 2021 9:12 PM |
When I was young and stupid, a mentor told me "When flying, always dress like someone who can afford a good lawyer" and I've followed that advice ever since.
Definitely a good habit to get into, as the world militarized airports and made random harassment legal.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 25, 2021 10:08 PM |
Yes. Constantly as Doris Day's "Pillow Talk" interior designer character, breezing into her antique dealer's shop--with my domed hat, fur coat, and my hands clasped confidently together inside the warm muff in my lap in first class...waiting eagerly for my first Bloody Mary before takeoff.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 26, 2021 5:55 AM |
Yes. What am I, a farmer?!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 26, 2021 5:59 AM |
I flew Jet Blue Mint on the red eye from LAX to NYC. Lisa Ling was in the pod next to me and boarded the plane in pajamas.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 26, 2021 6:14 AM |
I remember in the 70s and 80's, my mother used to force me to wear a suit on a plane - I was only 6 the first time.
I dressed for flights until 2000 - when all dressing standards seem to fall away.
I still dress OK for flights - but nothing like I used to. I'm still appalled at what people think is OK to wear. Of course, I would never wear what they wear to go to the grocery store either.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 26, 2021 6:25 AM |
R36 my condolences, but that never happened.
The outfit that you’ve described wouldn’t even be noticeable in first class on any airline.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 26, 2021 6:42 AM |
I don't do flights, seems like just a way for bars and restaurants to bump up the tab. I'll just order a bottle of wine to share with hubby.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 26, 2021 6:51 AM |
It was forty years ago when planes were never full besides Thanksgiving and Christmas but my mother, who had no status on any airline, got upgraded more than half the time on all of them to and from Florida in the winter. She was also usually the only (and often, among the first) person deplaning in Ft. Myers wearing a hat and gloves and a nice suit and heels. The FA's loved her and put her up front.
It doesn't work any more but it used to.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 27, 2021 4:29 AM |
Domestic First does not warrant anything beyond jeans and a hoodie. The planes are filthy and the seats are not comfortable. I am very tall so flying in any cabin is misery. I dress for maximum comfort.
