Found her! She's Nancyshaunteddolls on Etsy. This one is *Haunted Sheena The 1950's Haunted Antique Doll*
*
Sheena is a lively perky spirit that dates back to 1920’s. Sheena worked as a show girl and she also did a few cigarette ads for a popular magazine Co. She was admired by many men and hated by many women. Sheena’s body was found strangled to death in a dark alley in NYC. She was only 27. Her spirit is very much alive and active. She loves to sing and she enjoys listening to any kind of music. Sheena is a bubbly party girl that loves a glass of sweet red wine as an offering and chocolates. Her eyes are creepy and she has a tendency to wink. No need to fear her, she’s totally harmless.

I used to keep a collection of those heinous-looking bog roll dolls in one of the pleb crappers at Clarence House. R72, First, there isn't an "it". In the prologue, which tends to be cut for TV, there is a shot of numerous "Baby Jane Hudson" dolls. Since more than one was made, it is curious that none are known to exist.
There was a promo when the film first came out where they gave away a "Baby Jane" doll. These were *not* the movie props. These were the cheap, supermarket-type walker dolls that had been redressed as "Baby Jane". However, I know of none of these in existence either. It is puzzling that neither of the two types Baby Jane dolls seem to have survived.

I know, r73. They aren't quite the ruby slippers, but you'd think as rabid as doll collectors are, someone would have searched for the answer by now. by Anonymous | reply 102 | May 2, 2021 9:12 PM |
You weren't supposed to leave the wigs on her head. To accommodate the sleep eyes, her head was made of hard plastic. In time the wig would cause the head to get melt marks. Barbie's singing career didn't seem to move beyond this...

by Anonymous | reply 105 | May 3, 2021 3:11 AM |
To be serious, the old Barbies were made extremely well, they are still around how many years later. The Barbie clones have likely melted or the plastic has cracked.
The original Barbie clothing, which was made in Japan, was excellent and extremely well made. One of my late aunts was a seamstress, she worked for major fashion designers. My aunt always marveled at how well the old Barbie outfits were made. The outfits weren't cheap either. My aunt was the person who told my sister to take very good care of her Barbie collection, that the dolls. clothing and accessories would be valuable down the line.
Here's a complete original Skipper outfit from the 1960s. It's up at eBay, for $300! The cost in the 1960s, would have been at least $5.

The history of Tressy.
There doesn't appear to be any info on Tressy's career, except that she was a 'fashion' doll with adjustable hair.
"Tressy is an American fashion doll with a feature to adjust the length of its hair. Tressy was first produced by American Character Doll Company in the 1960s and later by Ideal Toy Company in the 1970s. The doll was invented and patented by modern furniture designer Jesse Dean and his wife, Diana."

I’m a collector and focus mostly on various 1960s lines as well as a few current ones. It’s the search that’s the most fun for me. The doll world is a fascinating community and it reflects the best and worst of society. On one hand it’s filled with wonderful and creative people who share a common interest. I’ve made friends from all over the world and have seen extreme generosity. Many collecting groups are connected with charities. Believe me, there’s a bond when you find ‘your people’ especially since it’s something often stigmatised. On the other hand, it’s filled with cut throats, cliques, doll politics, fraud and drama. People do really horrible stuff like recently someone absconded with the majority of a friend’s valuable doll collection after the friend died. A doll collector can live in a dumpy and unassuming house but have $100,000 or more worth of collectibles in one room, and many will readily show photos of their hoards online and it’s staggers. Some have so much stuff they have to put it in storage units. It’s also an amalgamation of gay men and conservative women as the largest segments who somehow existing together...well, there’s occasionally flare ups.
Btw, the vintage doll market is really booming currently due to the Covid related collecting craze. If you have doll stuff stored away and forgotten, it’s a good time to sell. It’s super competitive to buy, and there have been some insane prices lately even on marginal stuff.

by Anonymous | reply 155 | May 27, 2021 10:39 AM |
R154, R155 I’ve not been to UFDC but it’s cool they’re having an in person convention this year in Baltimore. I collect some Vogue, so I imagine it would be great for that. I’m signed up for the virtual NBDCC though, so I’m glad they’re doing something. Yes, I collect Integrity Toys/Fashion Royalty, but is been so difficult to buy anything this year as the interest has really increased. I did manage to snag a couple E59th dolls. I tried to get intotheir virtual convention, but no luck in their lottery or first come options. Sold out in a couple minutes! Oh well, c’est la vie.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | May 27, 2021 11:02 AM |
R153, the UFDC convention is more than Vogue. There is a modern doll club in NJ (Metro Dolls) that does a luncheon every year, usually Robert Tonner dolls. And, of course, Barbie's Best Friend will be there, but you probably see him at the NBDCC. There is also a small, but devoted group of Sybarite collectors.

The girl in the OP clip is Susan Gordon daughter of film director. She went on to appear in m at tv shows, including a Twilight Zone where she plays the “crippled” (as they said in those days) niece of an abusive Nancy Kulp. The girl befriends J Pat O’Malley, an old duffer who turns out to be a king on another planet. He returns to his planet with Susan. He’s actually a young man and she will “grow up to be queen one day,” which was kind of creepy.
Also appearing in that episode was Paul Tripp, known to NY baby boomers as the host of Birthday House, a tv show where kids celebrated their birthdays. Tripp was also creepy. He worked with his wife but always managed to be around children, which seemed really pedo, even at the time.
Susan was in a bunch of tv shows and some other crap movies her father produced, like the famously named Picture Mommy Dead, featuring another show biz oddity, Zsa Zsa Gabor.
Susan later became more orthodox and moved to Teaneck NJ where she died of cancer at age 62.

Does anyone have any doll world gossip? Gays are everywhere from the designers to the collectors. I have a friend who has attended many annual Barbie conventions, and he’s told me can they get really sordid with private little late night parties. Who knew!
by Anonymous | reply 207 | February 9, 2022 10:49 AM |
The gossip in the general doll world is pretty much nil. The biggest bit is that an officer in the United Federation of Doll Clubs had an arrest for creating cyber child porn (over ten years ago.). At the time creating cyber porn was not illegal; so, it was only a misdemeanor. He is a level 1 sex offender, which is the lowest level, but sounds as if it is the highest. The big issue is that the organization knew, but allowed him to run for office and participate in events, including a slumber party for junior members. In the end, it is "straight people problems" and not gay gossip.
Most of the dolly drama involves business practices, not sex. There are several doll dealers who got their start by being hairdressers or senior care and conned old ladies out of their valuable dolls. One or two who always have the most impossible antique dolls (made yesterday).
If you saw the average Barbie Collector, you would be a lot less interested in what goes on after hours. Your local, straight, bowling league is probably more attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | February 9, 2022 11:16 AM |
@R208, true, there are some cut throat people in the doll world ready to swoop in like vultures. I’ve seen so much shady stuff even from ‘reputable’ dealers and collectors. People develop cliques of defenders and try to justify their practices, so sometimes it becomes like Alice in Wonderland. Gaslighting abounds. So many stories, like last year there was a major Barbie collector who passed away, and her ‘good friend’ took advantage of her grieving partner and walked away with most the her collection days after the dearth and started selling it online. I think the police had to get involved and some of the collection was returned to be sold on online auction by the widower… but all the most valuable stuff had ‘vanished. It’s nuts what people will do.

Yikes. The police should have taken that way more seriously.
Hopefully, all those creeps are on a watchlist.

R211, the police could not do anything because it was not illegal at the time. Our laws are notoriously behind the times when it comes to developments in technology. The child porn he created did not involve actual children. It was completely computer generated. This is why it could only be a misdemeanor. He is on a list, but I believe he drops off in a year or two. Contrary to popular belief, Megan's law is not uniformly retroactive. Indeed, some stated forbid Megan's Law to be applied retroactively.
Some historic gossip.
Rose O'neill, the creator of the Kewpie, was a lesbian and the Rose in the song "Rose of Washington Square.
Johnny Gruelle, the creator of Raggedy Ann and Andy, was an alcoholic who drank himself to death. His publisher, P.F. Volland, was murdered by the wife of a disgruntled author. JG apparently pissed off the publisher after Volland so much that he would not allow any licensing of Raggedy Ann other than Volland printed materials.
Violet Gradwohl, the creator of the Terri Lee doll, was an arsonist and possibly a murderer.
Bermard Ravca (doll artist) was a wife beater.
For years, the Lenci company was owned by Fascists. The company was taken from the original owners in the 1930s and never restored.
The only Gay gossip that I can think of at the moment is that Stephen D. Hassenfeld who brought HASBRO back was gay and died of AIDS.

Remember "Dawn" dolls? I liked them. They were smaller than Barbie dolls and very pretty. I guess they would be; they were supposed to be "models." The main doll was called Dawn; she had a gorgeous mane of long golden blonde hair. The others had names, too; the only one I can remember is Angie, who was a redhead. I think there were male dolls, doo. Anyway, the Dawn dolls had all kinds of groovy clothes and great accessories. The only troublesome thing about Dawn dolls was that they were made of something that caused their knees to turn blue with age.
And remember "Blythe" dolls? They were dolls that were the epitome of anorexia; a doll with a body like a stick and a huge head. You pulled a string in her back and her eyes would change color, from blue to green to brown, etc. In Bust magazine there was an article about doll collecting; seems Blythe dolls were very collectible.

I wonder why the dolls at R221 didn't become a thing unless they were really expensive. Barbie was a ripoff of a German doll called Lilly only more "wholesome".

Demi Moore collected dolls. Antique dolls are VERY creepy. She has approximately 2,000; they're ensured at the cost of $2 million, according to Radar Online. I heard she also has dollhouses for them, which are also quite costly. What a mindless extravagance.
by Anonymous | reply 228 | April 22, 2022 12:35 AM |
R228, I am not sure if the comment about antique dolls was meant as an aside, but Demi Moore primarily collected modern artist dolls. As far as I know, they have been rotting in a storage unit somewhere for decades.

I heard somewhere that her dolls were antique ones. At any rate, modern artisan dolls are also expensive as hell. Some of them are gross to look at but some are quite beautiful. And they can run you upwards of $5000 for a single doll.

When I was in HS I worked for a doll company that afforded me the opportunity to go to Toy Fair a few times. It was beyond hysterical as Richard Simmons was there just hanging out, and Marie Osmond had a booth too. The place I worked for was the least normal after school job I could have hoped to find.

R241 what was so controversial about the winning doll?
Convention-goer collectors seem harmless and sweet nerds for the most part. Well, the younger women do, anyway. Youtuber Azusa has the most incredible Barbie-themed bed(?)room in her house, it must be seen to be believed. She also has Barbie brand luggage, phone accessories & shoes. That's commitment.
