$13 is too much for a pint. The most I’m willing to spend is $2.85 and ONLY for Haagen Daiz and Ben and Jerry. The others are inedible trash.

Turkey Hill's Belgian Chocolate but i have rediscovered recently BR's Lemon Custard and Gold Medal Ribbon!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 17, 2021 3:58 PM |
Salt and Straw is overrated for $12 a pint. They use tapioca and xathum gum in their ice creams which is all filler and creates a bad texture. Nothing pure like Haagen Daz.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 17, 2021 3:58 PM |
Häagen-Dazs rum raisin does it for me.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 17, 2021 4:02 PM |
Baskin-Robbins jamoca almond fudge (although I haven't seen a Baskin Robbins in quite some time).
Runner up would be Georgia Peach Ice Cream from Kilwin's in the Jax Brewery in New Orleans.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 17, 2021 4:02 PM |
That's a web markup R1
Whole Foods sells Jeni's for $9/pint and other stores for $7 or $8
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 17, 2021 4:08 PM |
Jeni's is kind of gross talk about dairy overload
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 17, 2021 4:18 PM |
Ben & Jerry's Coffee Toffee Crunch
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 17, 2021 4:45 PM |
Ben & Jerry's new Topped flavors. I love the Tiramisu flavor. I want to try Salted Caramel Brownie next.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 17, 2021 4:54 PM |
Jeni's occasionally has a seasonal watermelon flavor. Not sorbet, but ice cream. When I first heard about it, I thought it sounded kinda weird, but oh my god, is it good. Really intense.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 17, 2021 5:07 PM |
Just about all brands of ice cream have tapioca, xathum gum, fructose etc. Things that have no place in ice cream.
Some of the of the Häagen-Dazs flavors are pure. Their classic vanilla is still cream, milk, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla extract. It's the best.
Talenti is inedible garbage. It is a joke that they call it "gelato". It has none of the characteristics of gelato.

Jeni’s Frozê
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 17, 2021 5:57 PM |
My honey makes a lovely dark chocolate with melt-in-your mouth chocolate chips.
(Think Graeter’s raspberry Chocolate chip french Pot method) Which, btw is my second runner up.

I think Ben and Jerry’s and Haagen Dazs are the only two that don’t. That’s why they’re more expensive. Magnum also comes in a pint and is the same price but their ice cream tastes like Cool Whip. They have no business charging that much. Same with Museum of Ice Cream. Their pints are expensive and taste like foam.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 17, 2021 6:25 PM |
Best? Not sure. My FAVORITE, however, is Ben & Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie.

B&J's Cherry Garcia
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 17, 2021 6:31 PM |
Have you guys ever been Topped by Ben and Jerry? Is it a gimmick? Is it better than the Cores series?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 17, 2021 6:32 PM |
This is Datalounge R19
I'm sure most posters would enjoy being Topped.
Even if it was by Ben and Jerry

Lochmead Farms from Oregon is the best I've ever had.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 17, 2021 6:42 PM |
Almost any flavor from McConnell’s. You can now get it shipped to your door!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 17, 2021 6:48 PM |
Baskin Robbins mint chocolate chip. Period.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 17, 2021 6:55 PM |
Do you judge people who buy gallons or half-gallons? That shit is nasty and not even real ice cream. I only buy PINTS!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 17, 2021 7:04 PM |
Haagen-Dazs used to make a Crème Brûlée flavor that was the best. Smooth and creamy, it was hard to keep from eating the whole pint in one go.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 17, 2021 7:14 PM |
Haagen Dazs vanilla Swiss almond. I also like HD dulce de leche, but it's kind of sweet (yes, I know ice cream is sweet).
At some point, HD made a cherry ice cream that was better than Cherry Garcia (Ben & Jerry). I did a side-by-side comparison. Yes, I was chubby in those days and had a mom who would buy all that stuff if / when it went on sale (discounted).

Trader Joes, coffee bean blast, so good and also pretty inexpensive.

Me too R23!

Speaking of Haagen Daz, years ago they had a line called “five ingredients” or something and the Honey Vanilla was amazing. I don’t eat dairy anymore but that stuff was great!
Now they have a fantastic vegan Peanut Butter Fudge flavor.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 18, 2021 3:28 AM |
As for flavor, I like Cookies 'n' Cream.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 18, 2021 3:33 AM |
agree with everyone about the quality of Haagen Dazs, Pralines and Cream is my favourite. The 'synthetic' kinds of ice cream (someone mentioned gum?) are nothing compared to the real thing, I remember hearing someone talk about buying a tub of vanilla Carte D'Or ice cream one evening and, having refined taste buds, knew something wasn't right straight away, so she dumped the whole lot in the sink, came back the following morning only to find it had retained it's shape, any ice cream that doesn't melt overnight is not ice cream!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 18, 2021 3:49 AM |
Stroh’s, that company that used to make beer, makes really good ice cream! When I was a kid I was addicted to their banana ice cream. Now I love their bumpy cake ice cream!

G.D. Ritzy's Swiss Chocolate Almond - haven't had it in 36 years!

Amaretto Cherry Cordial Ice-Cream. This is the absolute best:
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 18, 2021 4:13 AM |
What about that Ben and Jerry’s secret illicit flavor, Jerry’s Jizz.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 18, 2021 4:25 AM |
Coffee Ice Cream is my favorite flavor, and Häagen-Dazs makes the best version of it.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 18, 2021 5:53 AM |
[quote]agree with everyone about the quality of Haagen Dazs, Pralines and Cream is my favourite.
Where do you live? Pralines & Cream is no longer available in the US (except maybe in scoop shops).

Yikes, the shit in that Sanders ice cream at R35.

England, r42 - now I really ought to stock up before they discontinue it here as well
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 18, 2021 3:59 PM |
So DL's ice cream connoisseurs seem to feel that Haagen-Dazs is the best brand and, despite corporate takeovers, was still made with the best ingredients.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 18, 2021 4:56 PM |
Before it was bought out decades ago, Sanders, based in Detroit, was the best. Under new ownership, and only featuring very limited flavors, it’s an inferior brand I now ignore. But lo these many years later, I’ve never tasted better ice cream than the original Sanders.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 18, 2021 4:57 PM |
I support and occasionally buy Ben & Jerry's because it's real, high quality & the company is liberal and ecological.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 19, 2021 1:19 AM |
Thanks, posters, for bringing to our attention all of these producers of which we might not have been aware.

Anyone have B&J's Schweddy Balls before it was discontinued?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 19, 2021 4:13 PM |
Any ice cream suggestions for those of us who are lactose intolerant? It's one of the cruelties of getting older - suddenly you cannot digest dairy. Breyers has a decent lactose-free version but in a very limited range of flavors.

I don't buy any mass-produced ice cream; we have a local place that makes everything fresh on site, and they either hand-pack it for you, or serve it in a cone or cup. Haven't bought ice cream in a grocery store in years.

wow you're amazing r51. Oh, and how is this contributing to this thread?

PS you don't even say where you are or give the name of the place to spread a little local-business love.

I have a Swiss woman who comes to my house with her own cow.
She milks the cow on premises and then picks the ingredients from the hothouse where she grows heirloom varieties of vanilla beans and cacao (all organic of course), mint and brambleberries.
Using an antique ice cream maker, she hand churns the ingredients into the most delectable ice cream imaginable.
You need to sign an NDA to engage her services, so that's all I can tell you.

R50, do you like coconut? I've eaten homemade, coconut ice cream, dairy-free. Didn't even miss the dairy. I'm not saying to make your own ice cream, but maybe look for ice creams that use coconut instead of dairy.
