Ken (the doll) turns 60 and, at times, black

Ken has "diversified"

Barbie ruined their brand by caving to the SJWs. They’re never satisfied and Mattel is stupid for bending to them. This entire article is why: worthless praise from anonymous online sources (“Oh a male babysitter Ken! So amazing!”).

There were flashes of brand brilliance in the past decade (“Life in the Dreamhouse”) but they went all-in on their woke line with dolls that never move from the shelves.

Fat (sorry... “Curvy”) Barbie = GAME OVER

by Anonymousreply 2March 12, 2021 12:42 PM

Was anyone else absolutely distraught the first time they took Ken's pants off?

by Anonymousreply 3March 12, 2021 12:53 PM

OP are you saying Barbie is into BBC?

by Anonymousreply 4March 12, 2021 2:17 PM

Are you old white fuckers trolling? This has to be a troll post. I get that the racists find ANY REASON to bitch (but are the first upset about homophobic assholes) but there has been black Barbie and black Ken for decades. This isn’t new.

by Anonymousreply 5March 12, 2021 2:22 PM

R2, I think the decline in sales has more to do with the poor quality of the dolls and clothing, and not because of the "body-positive" dolls.

by Anonymousreply 6March 12, 2021 2:24 PM

OP (you old stupid fuck), Black Barbie was introduced in 1980, 41 years ago. Black Ken was introduced in 1981, 40 years ago.

You’re 40 years late to be complaining.

Prior to them Barbie and Ken had black friends, mostly Christie and Brad.

[quote]Ken (the doll) turns 60 and, at times, black

He'll never go back.

by Anonymousreply 8March 12, 2021 2:30 PM

R2 they caved to no one. There is a whole documentary about it. Their sales have been down for over a decade, because kids play video games and apps more now, not toys/dolls.

Their sales were so bad they were thinking of shutting down Barbie all together.

That’s when they came out with the idea of making different types of Barbies, with different heights and body types.

Black Barbie and Ken aren’t new. You can’t be so ignorant you’ve never seen a black Barbie doll. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 9March 12, 2021 2:32 PM

Wait, Ken has joints now?

by Anonymousreply 10March 12, 2021 2:32 PM

Oh, and the rebrand with all the different types of dolls is what saved them from closing r2.

by Anonymousreply 11March 12, 2021 2:32 PM

Is this the new Tommy DiDario thread?

by Anonymousreply 12March 12, 2021 2:33 PM

Barbies black bestie Christie was introduced in 1968. She was a high seller too. One of Ken’s besties, Brad, was black too in the 70s. Shocked OP hasn’t found this out and made a post complaining 50 years later.

by Anonymousreply 13March 12, 2021 2:35 PM

Not diverse enough until they'll introduced Trans-Ken which is basically Ken but shorter with child bearing hips and a huge ugly scar across his chest.

by Anonymousreply 14March 12, 2021 2:44 PM

Again, r14, black Ken was introduced 40 years ago this year. This is a bullshit race bait thread

by Anonymousreply 15March 12, 2021 2:45 PM

Barbie is SUCH a slut!

by Anonymousreply 16March 12, 2021 2:46 PM

Well it’s not like Ken really loves pussy anyway

by Anonymousreply 17March 12, 2021 2:47 PM

This was the first black Ken doll, introduced in 1981

This was the first black Barbie (not counting her friends) in 1980.

No one is complaining about Francie, Barbie’s colored friend you dumb race troll.

We KNOW Barbie and Ken have had black versions: and of course in your myopic little worldview nothing exists beyond black/white.

Barbie’s sales are up in the pandemic age - the article mentions that specifically because parents are buying more toys again. There was no demonstrable sales increase after their woke Fashionistas line full of shorties and fatties.

by Anonymousreply 20March 12, 2021 6:40 PM

Happy Retirement Ken!

by Anonymousreply 21March 12, 2021 6:42 PM

Anyone who doesn’t know they had a black and white version of Barbie/Ken is lying.

by Anonymousreply 22March 12, 2021 6:45 PM

I'd like to be a Ken but with all Barbie's money.

by Anonymousreply 23March 12, 2021 6:48 PM

This is the doll that changed the world for young Gaylings of the 70s. Gay Bob

Black Francie dolls are selling for thousands on Etsy and EBay.

by Anonymousreply 26March 12, 2021 7:04 PM

And who can forget Earring Magic Ken?

by Anonymousreply 27March 12, 2021 7:12 PM

Earring Magic Ken was pulled off shelves overnight

by Anonymousreply 28March 12, 2021 7:16 PM

What about me? I USED to be a Ken doll!

by Anonymousreply 29March 12, 2021 10:48 PM

They have a “curvy” Barbie; is there a Chunky Ken?

by Anonymousreply 30March 12, 2021 11:35 PM

Of course not, because “feminist” frauen want all fit and hunky men to love and validate their BBW sloppy selves.

by Anonymousreply 31March 13, 2021 8:34 PM

There's a "broad body" Ken, r30.

Another Ken with the broad body type.
