"Little Darlings" was cringeworthy. Two 15 years old wage a bet as to who will lose her virginity first. The ad campaign blurb went "The first girl to lose her virginity...wins." The ad had to be toned down to say "The first girl to get a guy wins." Tatum O'Neal's character offers herself to an adult camp (they're at summer camp) counselor but he deflects her advances. Kirsty offers her cooze to Matt Dillon, which he accepts, despite the fact that she is hipless, breastless and plain as an old shoe. Could "Little Darlings" be made today? I don't think so. The subject matter is too much like kiddie porn.

The worst thing about Little Darlings is Tatum offers her coochie to Armand Asante whose teeny peeny would do less damage to her hymen than a light flow tampon!

Hollywood loved it's butch teen girls in the 1970s early '80s, Kristy, Jodie, Tatum, Nancy McKeon, Kari Michaelson...Dana Plato (RIP) and Linda Blair were the only feminine teen girls from that era. To be fair, Kristy and Jodie were both really good actors, not just for child actors, but by any standard. Jodie's performance in Taxi Driver is one of the great performances of all time and I say that as someone who doesn't care for most of her work as an adult.

I remember when Kristy starred in "Empty Nest" and I was surprised at how great and relaxed she seemed to fit into the live-studio-audience comedy sitcom vibe--because up till then, in her different roles I'd seen her in because of how I'd always liked her work, she'd seemed to work not in that comic area but instead with melodramas and teen angst stuff. I really liked her on that show and missed when she decided not to continue with acting, albeit for those personal health reasons which of course were and are her business and right.

That White Dog movie is her masterpiece.

White Dog ran on a local television channel in Los Angeles c.1983 for about a week. It was intense.

The entire movie is up on youtube, free of charge, but with lots of short commercial breaks. The movie was subtly preachy. The "winner" of the contest, discovered that losing her virginity was disappointing and that sex wasn't all that society had made it to be. It seems the movie was aimed at high school girls, but since the movie was R-rated, the target audience had no chance of seeing it. There was no nudity, and I don't even remember any cursing; but since the "PG-13" rating didn't exist back then, the only other choice was "PG".

Little Darlings was not a great movie, but it did have a more realistic view of teenage sexuality than a lot of films. Kristy's character decides to have sex with Matt Dillon's character. Nothing is shown, but after it's over, the awkwardness if pretty real and a lot of my female friends back in the day commented on how it was similar to their first times. It was nervous, awkward, and afterward they wished they hadn't done it. They were usually pretty private about it, too.

I fucking loved her as a kid, when I was a baby gay. We are close in age. I identified with her very much. Little Darlings was one of the first times I remember thinking that I could actually believe in the characters as teenagers that I recognized from my own life. And Matt Dillon was a total teen dream at the time, so that helped. Later with Chris Atkins as well. Although Pirate Movie was TERRIBLE!I loved her as Buddy as well.

When I was a kid my family used to go visit my relatives who lived in an apartment complex in North Hollywood. Kristy's grandmother also lived there and Kristy used to always come over and swim with me and my cousins in the pool.

My partner's sister used to spend a lot of time with her. Our family figured they were dating, but nobody ever asked if they were a couple, we assumed they were.

I believe Kristy's current partner is very wealthy and takes care of her.
