Colds and Flu

So with everyone masking has anyone gotten a cold or the flu this season?

Yes

by Anonymousreply 1March 4, 2021 6:10 PM

Knock on wood...no. When I feel like a cold is coming, I use Airborne. My shot of vitamin C. I wear my mask, too.

by Anonymousreply 2March 4, 2021 6:16 PM

I haven’t gotten even a cold

by Anonymousreply 3March 4, 2021 6:19 PM

I read somewhere that cold and flu's are almost non existent this year because of masks and Covid.

by Anonymousreply 4March 4, 2021 6:19 PM

I had a cold three weeks ago. Got a covid test of course, negative. The cold lasted a week, no fever or loss of taste but the people who tested me said my symptoms could still be covid, so I had to quarantine until I got test results. I've been very compliant with mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing, so it's a little scary to think with all that I still caught something.

by Anonymousreply 5March 4, 2021 6:20 PM

Nope. First time in my life I've never gotten a yearly cold. I would have occasional days of sinusitis but that's all.

by Anonymousreply 6March 4, 2021 6:20 PM

Yes. Got a cold earlier this year.

by Anonymousreply 7March 4, 2021 6:22 PM

I have sinusitis and am taking an antibiotic for it. Other than this, nothing.

by Anonymousreply 8March 4, 2021 6:24 PM

No cold, no flu. Just the usual allergies.

by Anonymousreply 9March 4, 2021 6:29 PM

Not a sniffle, but there is a bit of bad news regarding so few people getting the flu this year.

People who don’t plan on taking the shot vaccine next Fall run the risk of getting a worse than normal flu because they haven’t had their immune systems react to it this flu season.

by Anonymousreply 10March 4, 2021 6:30 PM

Yep. I had a sore throat that made it impossible for me to talk, a 103 degree fever, then a respiratory illness that I’m still getting over. I got the flu shot and tested negative for Covid.

by Anonymousreply 11March 4, 2021 6:41 PM

For the first flu season of my life (and I'm 64), no.

Hate the masks and social distancing and isolation. Love the health benefits!

by Anonymousreply 12March 4, 2021 6:47 PM

No. But I only get sick once every other year, or so. I also drink lots of water, take a regimen of vitamins, & walk several miles a day.

by Anonymousreply 13March 4, 2021 7:15 PM

Thankfully, no. I usually catch a cold once or twice a year but haven't had one since around early 2020.

by Anonymousreply 14March 4, 2021 7:22 PM

I was just thinking about this the other day. I usually get one bad cold (or the flu) each year but so far this year, nothing. I may continue wearing a mask during flu season once all of this is over.

by Anonymousreply 15March 4, 2021 7:22 PM

Working from home has kept me healthier, too. I work with people who have crotchdroppings. Kids are petri dishes for disgusting stuff.

by Anonymousreply 16March 4, 2021 7:24 PM

nope, sickest i've been was after first moderna vax.

by Anonymousreply 17March 4, 2021 7:26 PM

--and that wasn't much. If you get the chance, take it!

by Anonymousreply 18March 4, 2021 7:46 PM

Nope, zilch.

by Anonymousreply 19March 4, 2021 7:48 PM

Last year was the first year I didn’t get a sore throat.

by Anonymousreply 20March 4, 2021 7:50 PM

I had one very mild cold, which isn't surprising as I've been working with children, teaching, throughout all lockdowns.

by Anonymousreply 21March 4, 2021 7:51 PM

Nope. No colds or flu since I had COVID last March. Now flu vaccinated and COVID fully vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 22March 4, 2021 7:57 PM

Not me and I am delighted.

Flu deaths in United States, winter 2020-21: 1

Normally in the tens of thousands.

by Anonymousreply 24March 4, 2021 8:05 PM

No, I got a flu shot.

But then I got Coronavirus. A mild form, luckily.

by Anonymousreply 25March 4, 2021 8:08 PM

Flus are almost non-existent as another poster stated; they're attributing this to masking and distancing. The flu is far less contagious than Covid too. Glad I skipped the shot this year.

Post-covid I plan on continuing the mask wearing (where it makes sense) to avoid getting the flu in winter months. At least we learned something from this.

by Anonymousreply 26March 4, 2021 8:09 PM

Yes I had one last week. No idea where it came from but apparently has been going around the country (New Zealand)

by Anonymousreply 27March 4, 2021 8:21 PM

No and it's why going forward I'll wear a mask in crowded public places like the subway from now on.

by Anonymousreply 28March 4, 2021 8:23 PM

No, but I did get a flu shot late October.

by Anonymousreply 29March 4, 2021 8:26 PM

I plan to wear a mask in public crowds during flu season post Covid, too. I can't remember the last winter I didn't catch a cold, and most years I get more than one.

by Anonymousreply 30March 4, 2021 9:24 PM

Rarely is it I ever get a cold—good system, good diet, good hygiene, try not to spend any time with kids or gross people, etc. I’ve had at most a dozen mild to semi-moderate ones in my thirty years of life, and all in the dead of winter when I was at school or the office.

But all of a sudden, tonight I’m getting little attacks of wet loud sneezing every twenty minutes, and I’m shivering a little, yet it’s still Fall and still temperate and I’m based at home. Bizarre.

Double-vaxxed since August, mask in busy/urban public spaces, and have barely gone out since, so I’d be surprised if it was COVID (though I see my Mom a lot, and her coworker’s 12-year old niece had it recently :/) Just in case, I’ll test myself tomorrow.

For now, I’m sipping grated ginger & acerola tea and hugging a hot water bottle, hoping for the best.

[quote] try not to spend any time with kids or gross people, etc.

Can you define "gross people"? Or how you avoid them in public areas (subway, grocery store, etc.)?
