This is cheaper than the other post. What do you think? It is considerable affordable at only $2,895,000. It is charming and has a lovely pool.
Tasteful Friends: Another South Pasadena Home for sale?

Love it. Seems like some of the wood was painted white (in the large bedroom suite upstairs). Should have kept the wood unpainted. Pool is kind of a dopey shape. Should have just removed that tree instead of built around it.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 3, 2021 6:36 AM |
i like the tree.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 3, 2021 6:38 AM |
Fuck off with that peloton on the balcony stupidity. Balconies are for mimosas.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 3, 2021 6:43 AM |
That's a step up from the last listing. i really liked most of it. dislikes: the fireplace in the middle of the living/dining (really didn't like the design of the fireplace more than the fact that it was in between the two areas); the built in desk/bookcases in both bedrooms (one painted white, one natural). other than that, it was pretty well designed and i'd be pretty comfortable in it.
However, location. And the heat is stifling in the summer but at least you have a pool. work from home situation would make it pretty okay.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 3, 2021 6:48 AM |
Very nice.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 3, 2021 6:51 AM |
R5, the location is a plus -- South Pasadena is wonderful. It can cook in the summer, but I'd rather be there than Las Vegas or Phoenix.

I liked the fireplace except for the green tile.
Agree about the built-in bookcases and desks in the bedrooms. I felt weird not liking them b/c, in general, built-ins are a plus (in my book).
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 3, 2021 6:54 AM |
I like the light and wood, but they have done lame upgrades with some of the kitchen cabinets and the rooms upstairs. The backyard is mostly pool and garage: I prefer more lawn for that price tag. Very pretty from the front.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 3, 2021 7:01 AM |
lots of lawn in the front.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 3, 2021 7:06 AM |
Honey, OP, any 3 million dollar home won't make up for your atrocious grammar. Affordable is an adjective so one needs an adverb to modify it. considerably affordable.
Even that isn't so great. As you seem to want to make a comparative statement. considerably more affordable (than the other house referenced)
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 3, 2021 7:17 AM |
you can have a picnic table in the front yard. Wow, that yard is big.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 3, 2021 7:29 AM |
somebody go to the open house. Check out that yard and pool. Okay? Report back.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 3, 2021 7:35 AM |
I hate this ersatz Pasadena/Arts-&-Crafts/Greene & Greene-ish shit house with it's shitty little HGTV design gimmicks and bad detailing everywhere.
Was an architect even involved?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 3, 2021 8:03 AM |
It's within 100 miles of LA, so no thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 3, 2021 9:13 AM |
Who the fuck would pay that much to live in Pasadena? May as well live in L.A. proper.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 3, 2021 9:15 AM |
i want a dler to go there with a floating, jump in the pool and post a selfie.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 3, 2021 9:17 AM |
r7 has no idea what she's talking about. Another moronic myth believer.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 3, 2021 5:51 PM |
Morons like r7, r16.

[Quote] It's within 100 miles of LA, so no thanks.
It's 15 min from DTLA.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 3, 2021 5:53 PM |
It's still SOUTH Pasadena.
This one in Pasadena recently sold for $2.5 million. Similar square footage, bigger lot.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 3, 2021 9:55 PM |
OP's house is ok, but I love R21!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 3, 2021 9:59 PM |
Again - ridiculously overpriced. It’s a nice decent upper middle class home. Not a $2.5 million mansion. Even for LA these houses seem absurdly expensive. Who has this kind of money?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 3, 2021 9:59 PM |
R19 = Angry he’s stuck in Pasadena.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 3, 2021 10:05 PM |
[quote] Who has this kind of money?
I think some two-wage-earning households that have been in SoCal real estate for the last 15-20 years just keep rolling their growing equity and profit from previous sales into higher-priced homes.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 3, 2021 11:37 PM |
[R21] nice house
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 4, 2021 2:01 AM |
It's a lovely home, but I don't care where it is, it's not worth almost $3 million.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 4, 2021 2:37 AM |
I think a lot of Angelenos associate South Pasadena with the northern terminus of the Long Beach Freeway (I-710). That's all they've been squawking about for the last 50 years.. lol.
I believe they successfully fought it off, again, with the project officially being shelved, but of course, "the infamous gap" still exists which creates other traffic problems in the area.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 4, 2021 11:26 PM |
I can’t believe the impractical placement of the microwave in pics 13 and 14
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 6, 2021 5:23 AM |
I'd move to Pasadena if I could live next to Doug and Kate Lawrence.
They're gone now, though; I wonder if Willie and Buddy and Princess Perfect are still there.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 6, 2021 5:26 AM |
It's a great family home. You wouldn't have to do anything to it--just move right in. It's also got great schools, so you wouldn't have to pay for private schools for the kids.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 6, 2021 5:32 AM |
I utterly fail to see how this house is in any way worth nearly 3 million dollars.
Completely insane.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 6, 2021 6:14 AM |
The house at r21 is really cool..but 3 million and you put the tv over the fireplace??? For shame.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 6, 2021 6:41 AM |
R21's is delicious and nicely staged.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 6, 2021 6:57 AM |
If you cannot get naked in the backyard around your pool, it's not worth $3 mill.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 6, 2021 2:28 PM |
I was in LA and spent time in Pasadena. You could just feel the racism as you walked around the shops and cafes.
Then someone pointed out that Pasadena was the last town in the US to intergrate its schools..

No dark skinned customers but almost every clerk and waiter was minority. This was only about 3 years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 6, 2021 3:05 PM |
Some of these tasteful friends depress me. I will never be able to afford a home like this. Who are these people that can?
My only compliant about this oddly the garage. Those cabinets take up to much space. I doubt you could fit two cars in there.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 6, 2021 3:13 PM |
I'm not sure they did upgrades on the cabinetry, r9, I think they may be the original 1994 cabinets.
At first I thought the home was built 1930s or 1940s and updated in the 1990s, but I see it was built in 1994, which explains a lot. For a 1990s home it's quite nice.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 6, 2021 3:22 PM |
remove a ZERO for same house , in say, Kansas City
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 6, 2021 3:29 PM |
Isn't Pasadena a bastion of Republicans?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 6, 2021 3:46 PM |
It is ok, nothing to write home about. Outside the landscape is simple and clean, the pool oddly worked around a tree that should have been nixed. It would have been better for a simple clean rectangle. I don't know how pleasant it would be to be sitting out on that small patio and having the heat pump blasting away right next to you. Very bad design there. Don't like the floating fireplace. Mixed messages there. Subway tile again? Yuck. The rooms are nice, with good space. Overall a 7.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 6, 2021 3:52 PM |
That house wasn’t built for multimillionaires originally. It’s a nice middle class house and not worth almost $3 million!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 6, 2021 3:57 PM |
I love Op's home. The one from r21 looks so cramped and dark. If I'm in southern California I want a brighter home to match the wonderful sunshine of the environment. r21 feels like a brooding teenager. What's with all these damn wine cellars. Are people consuming this much wine to house it in a cellar?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 6, 2021 4:44 PM |
R30 I would bet you anything that Willie never moved out. I'm fact, pushing 70 he's still "trying to find himself"...
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 6, 2021 5:24 PM |
Modern homes that try to ape previous period architecture always seem to fall short. It's just bland as hell and doesn't have enough details to be craftsman.
Either do it right or don't do it at all.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 6, 2021 5:35 PM |
I have no idea what Pasadena is like, but I really like the house. I could see myself live there. No way could I afford 3 million though.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 6, 2021 6:31 PM |
R39 Thanks--I thought the cabinets surrounding the fridge were probably more recent, but you're right, they are likely 1994...
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 6, 2021 6:50 PM |
Why is it that somewhere around 1970 Americans ceased making beautiful homes?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 6, 2021 6:54 PM |
[quote] the heat is stifling in the summer
When did you live in Southern California? And the humidity is low, unlike in the East.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 7, 2021 3:01 AM |
Pasadena regularly gets in the upper 90's to 100 during the summer in the past 5 years, r50. It also gets surprisingly humid as well.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 7, 2021 4:10 AM |
How do Californians afford those huge home prices? A house like that in another place would be less than a half mil.
Do they take out larger mortgage loans? Can a regular middle class 120k household afford that? All the homes prices in LA, even Compton are insane! How do families do it?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 7, 2021 4:17 AM |
R52 I think most of them can only afford a house if they already own one in SoCal that they're selling. To just move there from out of state and purchase a house? Maybe if you're a movie star or a physician...
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 7, 2021 2:44 PM |
Assuming a 15% down payment (which alone could buy a nice place in many places), I'm guessing you'd have to make at least $600,000 a year, and that would be tight R52. So the buyer would be a true 1%-er.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 10, 2021 10:41 PM |
It's really lovely, if too perfect. It's so southern California. The buzz kill on the place is that you can still reach out and kiss your neighbor from the bathroom window.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 10, 2021 10:45 PM |
I hate that people bought these dumps for pennies on the dollar decades ago. Now only they or their children can buy a house there. It’s disgusting.
