I have 1 lb. of elbow macaroni left over. I don’t want to make Mac and cheese again. Any ideas for fun recipes I can make?
What can I do with elbow macaroni?

What is "mac"?

Take Elmer's glue and create cool shapes and even letters with it OP
You can even spray paint it.
We did that in Pre-K and it was a lot of fun.

It means "son of" in Scottish R4
So MacDonald would have been the son of Donald.
The American version "Junior Mint" for "son of Donald" is easier to remember but "Junior Mint had a farm" doesn't have the same ring to it.

On a serious note...could you make it into a pasta pudding like a rice pudding. Italians use pasta in desserts with raisins, cinnamon etc.....just a thought

Hold it between your knees.

you could do more of a beefaroni.
Or boil it and throw in some tuna, mayo and eggs (if you want a bit of a deviled egg taste) and make a pasta salad.

Shove it up your ass.

Chicken Tetrazinni.
Prepare macaroni. Sautee 8 oz mushrooms in butter. Make 2 cups of sauce from butter, flour, chicken stock, and heavy cream. Toss macaroni with mushrooms, sauce, and shredded chicken (about 2 cups). Top with 1/2 cup grated parm. Bake at 350 until sauce is bubbly, then broil for a few minutes until top starts to brown.

Make a tuna casserole with canned of cream of mushroom soup (or make a white sauce from scratch if you must) -- add some finely diced onion and top with crushed potato chips. Or use canned salmon. It will make you feel like you're 8 years old again!

R22 my mom never made that when I was 8, or ever. But thanks for the idea.

Make Potato Mac salad. Very popular in Hawaii

Mayo is far worse than cheese. They're both gross though.

R17, You don't want to know what "Hamburger Helper" consists of as it's inedible.
Saute onion, garlic, oregano, rosemary, your fav spices in a little olive oil. Add 1 lb of ground beef. Olives and mushrooms, canned or frozen corn are all optional. Then add a small can or tomato sauce.
Stir in cooked elbow macaroni.
Dish can have a Southwestern accent with a can of beans and appropriate spices.
Or it can be faux German-American by adding a bit of brown sugar and lemon juice and leaving out the sliced olives.
Cheese can be added as a topping too.

Are R17 (who doesn't know what "Hamburger Helper" is) and R4 (who doesn't know what "mac" is), the same person? No harm in not knowing those things, just hard to believe that anyone reading an American website would be so innocent, let alone 2 of you.

R27 Yum! That does sound good. But maybe more of a summer thing.

R30 the troll who pretends not to know what “Mac” is has done so before. He swears nobody called it that before the last 15 years.

I am both R4 and R17. I'm making fun of the poster who always asks what "Mac" is. He's been around for years. I do admit I've never tried Hamburger Helper though.

R9 may have been thinking of kugel, which is a Jewish thing. Sweet noodle pudding with raisins and cinnamon.
I suppose it’s more or less universal thrift, to turn leftover rice or pasta into dessert.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 28, 2021 12:39 PM |
My Ukrainian baba used to make an easter dish made of macaroni, milk, raisins and some other stuff.
I don’t suggest making that.

R34 that looks like vomit!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 28, 2021 1:43 PM |
Is it 1 lb of cooked macaroni? Throw it away. Are you that poor? Throw it into the woods for the wild animals to eat.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 28, 2021 1:49 PM |
Boil macaroni, drain, add Campbell's tomato soup (probably 2 cans, made with milk, not water) and sliced Hebrew National hot dogs.
Serve to grandchildren for lunch.

Just add a bunch of butter -- and maybe salt or sprinkle on grated Parmesan cheese out of the can.
Yum.

This old-fashioned recipe for what used to be called "goulash" is pretty good, I make it when I end up with a random half box of macaroni. Halve the amount of elbows you use in this, at least, otherwise it's overwhelmingly carb heavy.

I'm not the guy you're talking about, but l never heard anyone say "mac and cheese" instead of "macaroni and cheese" until 1999, when I moved to a place some might call Flyoverstan, i.e., Pittsburgh. I had never heard of green bean casserole before then, either.
Not hilarious, just true.
