Was this ever a common trend? I mean, it doesn't look bad on this guy (Wayne Cochran, pictured). What other men chose this style?
ROFLMAO...that is fucking ridiculous.

Looks a bit like trump.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 27, 2021 6:45 PM |
That is not remotely a bouffant, R3. Please get serious.
OP, it’s really a great look and I would LOVE for it to become the new craze. I think today’s young hipsters are dumb enough to do it. It would at least be amusing, unlike most of the current trends.

Someone already parodied Wayne's LP cover.

Ohhhh, all those men I was on. Those were the days.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 27, 2021 7:10 PM |
Again, not bouffants ^^^
Please stop wasting our time.
This below is a bouffant. Hayley Mills in 1967. We’re talking about this style, but on men. Like the OP’s guy.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 27, 2021 7:15 PM |
Preacher hair.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 27, 2021 7:20 PM |
That’s more like it, R13
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 27, 2021 7:31 PM |
There have been some televangelists with bouffants, haven't there?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 27, 2021 7:33 PM |
Some people don't know what a bouffant is.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 27, 2021 7:48 PM |
Elvis and Desi Arnaz sported pompadours, not bouffants.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 27, 2021 7:51 PM |
Laurence Harvey. Had a pompadour, even in period films
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 27, 2021 7:54 PM |
Big 1980s hair is NOT a bouffant!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 27, 2021 8:00 PM |
Some of you dumb bitches don't know your ass from a hole in the ground, much less a bouffant from any other style.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 27, 2021 8:15 PM |
This is a bouffant on a young Dolly Parton. It's pretty close to Wayne Cochran's massive hair on that LP cover.
Once again, 1980s teased up heavy metal/hair band hair was not considered a bouffant.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 27, 2021 8:17 PM |
Look like rejects from a B52's cover band
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 27, 2021 8:17 PM |
Here's Priscilla Presley and her ultimate bouffant.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 27, 2021 8:20 PM |
I wonder if that raging high hair frightened & possibly traumatized young Lisa Marie?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 27, 2021 8:24 PM |
Actually, a bouffant-type hairstyle is coming back. Looks like a very wide and long Mohawk style haircut.

[Quote] Once again, 1980s teased up heavy metal/hair band hair was not considered a bouffant.
But how is it not? It's high, rounded and dence just like the others? I don't get it? Is it because of era?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 27, 2021 8:24 PM |
Tommy Sands has quite a rat's nest going on in this interview with Skip E. Lowe.

It has nothing to do with an era. Hair bands big hair and New Wave hairstyles didn't look styled, the hair looked messy. The hair band musicians just teased their long hair and it looked scraggy. A bouffant is like architecture of the hair, it's always styled impeccably, not simply teased and spiked like 1980s big hair.
Here's current version of a bouffant, on Adele.

Ok okay, r35. Thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 27, 2021 8:48 PM |
Please define bouffant for us. The porn definition (I know it when I see it) is not working for me.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 27, 2021 8:54 PM |
R35 That's not true. New wave bands like The B-52's had a styled big hairstyles inspired by the late 1950s and '60s. Well the ladies in that band did, at least
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 27, 2021 8:55 PM |
"It's high, rounded and dence"
Oh, dear!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 27, 2021 8:58 PM |
The B-52s gals HAD bouffants R38 - “B-52” is southern slag FOR a bouffant.
Don’t confuse a particular hair style with a particular era or particular music genre. R35s definition of a bouffant; and why Heavy Metal teased hair, Daryl Hall’s mega mullet, or a Rock-A-Billy pompadour is not a bouffant; is spot on.

Now you are just being ridiculous. Yes, the B-52 gals did have big bouffant wigs. They didn't have typical New Wave style 'big hair'. The two styles are definitely different. You just want to argue.
Can you honestly compare Cyndi Lauper's New Wave scraggly multi-color hair with the B-52s bouffant wigs? Of course not!

At what point does a pompadour turn into a bouffant?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 27, 2021 10:22 PM |
It’s a dumb hairstyle but I have to admire the man in op’s photo. He commits fully to his look, and that is bravery in action.

R44 - see R43

I think bouffants fell out of favor after this terrible day - when her cigarette touched off the hairspray and started the 1968 Great Fire of Macon.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 27, 2021 11:24 PM |
Not really a bouffant, but Brian Setzer has had some nice hairstyles.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 27, 2021 11:34 PM |
I'm sure there used to be a televangelist who had what looked like a giant white styrofoam ball on his head, but I can't find him.

More Conway Twitty - less feathered - more lacquered.

my ex was not black but would mix up words like one and said, "yeah, he had one them(sic) fondue haircuts"!

Don't Southerners say something like, "The higher the hair, the closer to God"???
Hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 28, 2021 12:11 PM |
These are some amazing hairstyles!
btw, the handbags in this photo are still in style.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 28, 2021 1:53 PM |
Wonder how much shampoo it took to wash out all the teasing, hairspray and hair lacquer!
Some pre-conditioning might have been involved.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 28, 2021 1:56 PM |
One of my aunts had the hairstyle on the left. She had very thick hair to begin with, she likely didn't need to have her hair overly teased. One thing was for sure, women who wore their hair in these bizarre styles did use tons of hairspray.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 28, 2021 1:59 PM |
[quote]Conway Twitty had a big old hair helmet
Conway appeared to have naturally thick hair. In his case, the correct haircut was very important to his 'big hair' hairstyle.

Some of these links to bouffants on women are actually 'beehives' --- not as drastic as Marge Simpson but pretty damn close.

Dolly and early ‘70s duet partner Porter Wagoner. Look at that enormous mountain of hair; Dolly’s hair was pretty big too.
