Bill Maher Show = White people angry that they’re called racists
Every episode in recent memory is about Bill talking with other white people all complaining about how they’re being seen as racist when they’re not.
Today it was the “bleeding from wherever” Megan Kelly. She’s mad mad mad she and her kids are being told called bad whiteys.
Yet not one realizes this is what black people have dealt with for centuries—being called what they are not.

I had same impression of the Megyn / Bill interview. All I kept thinking was that they were bantering about woke-ism and the alleged actions of the school (when it was actually the parents as R3 reminds us), only within their interpretation of the proper context for the situations they were talking about.
In our quest to be more understanding and inclusive toward people of all races, genders, and orientations, are there going to be occasional errors and misfires? Of course. Not that I'm making a blanket justification for that to happen, but when it does, what we should be concerned about is whether there is any malice involved in it. When there is, we need to respond accordingly, own it, and apologize for it.
And speaking of context, I think we all need to know a bit more about Bill's solar permit application that he's been bitching about for weeks now as taking 1000+ days and counting. I'm not accepting just on his word from his bully pulpit that there's nothing non-standard about his application, and I wouldn't put it past him one bit to be a turd in his own punch bowl just to have a bit to complain about.

No R21, rather convenient for Bill's constant bitching about it lately. The only detail he's elaborated on is that he had to build some shed on his property and it's so far taken three years.
Knowing his contrarian impulses and love of complaining, I wouldn't be surprised if he's more interested in building a narrative about how California is forcing residents to flee from the state due to our alleged bureaucratic red tape than he is in getting his solar operating. For all we know, there could be something unorthodox about his permit application and a damn good reason why the state is imposing extra requirements before approving it. Perhaps if Bill is fed up with California bureaucracy, he should consider whether he'd rather have been living in Texas last week with their energy infrastructure and decide which state's residents have it worse.

Here is my advice to white people. Do what your parents and grandparents did, just say your racist stuff in private, at home, and/or among like-minded friends and you won't get in trouble. White people have gone for a long time just keeping their shit to themselves and on the downlow, and they could get away with plausible deniability or just simply gaslighting everyone into believing that they weren't racist because there was no proof.
But then, at some point, you lost your freaking minds and lost the ability to just keep that shit locked down. Stay off social media. Use thought bubbles instead of speaking out loud. Don't rap the lyrics to hip hop songs in public. Always assume that you are being recorded in some manner.

R36, all things being equal, that might have been the case, 𝒊𝒇 either of them actually existed as historical persons. On that account, there's next to no evidence for Nicholas, and even less for Jesus. Both of them are composite figures, legendary accretions, hagiographical in nature. I don't get why people still watch Maher's show. I used to love his ABC show back in the 90s and continued watching when he went to HBO. But I quit watching years ago because he just sits there and says nothing while these right wing people put out their lies and disinformation. R36 Holding on the White Jesus is true insanity... indicative that many if not most "christians" in the US in 2021 are not Christians in any meaningful way, but rather hold on to a set of beliefs that are cultural, psychological and political in origin, not spiritual.
Assuming there was a historical Jesus, the Jews of Galilee of that time were short, and had brown eyes, dark brown to black hair and olive-brown skin.
R13 The white anger justifiers declaim their victimhood (with all the platform and power that accrue to whiteness) and assert as a central point of their disturbance that they are tired of others claiming victimhood at every opportunity. Essentially "we are victims because others claim they are victims.
Megyn Kelly is a particularly annoying version of Loud Karen - in that she simply lies for media attention. That's her career.
And Maher, who has been sliding into irrelevance, and old man solipsistic bitterness for some time now, has jumped the shark. Last night was all about grievance. Jesus (speaking of) R79/R80, you're bad at this. They weren't always white per the US Census. About 40 years before Middle Easterners were deemed legally white for the census, Lebanese George Shishim had to sue in a CA court to be deemed white in order to be eligible for citizenship. His argument was that if he was truly a "Mongoloid" as the law dictated, then so was Jesus.
Now just stop. Megyn wasn't having a fit about Jesus being technically Caucasian, which is a wholly made up and shifting category, she was justifying Jesus being depicted looking like he was born in Sweden.

R79 Hon, really, you need to pray about this.
You use the word "Caucasian" which obviously has some special meaning and power for you. In talking, anthropologically and genetically speaking, about the Galilean jews of that period... they were relatively short, brown eyes and dark here, and a olive complexion.
Oh, and it almost seems like I should reinforce this for you: Jesus was Jewish.

Based on where he was born, his ethnicity and his lineage, Jesus looked more like the guys in the top left or bottom right corners than any of the guys in between. If in the ever-changing definition of white or Caucasian, you believe either of those guys to meet the definition, fine. But Megyn and her prancing racist friends for sure do not. And for a long time in US history they certainly were not, and they perpetuated a false image of Jesus to get around that problem.

The problem isn’t really that he had her on, it’s that when didn’t challenge her enough (because he was flirting with her?) there was SOME validity to the whole thing - white people as a whole are indeed being gaslighted into thinking they “must” be racist - for no other reason than being white. And I’ve seen that “white racist” pie chart/continuum all over social media being promoted by the “woke” left.
But there were also too many things that he let go - he half assed brought up the false equivalency but he should have been much tougher about it. Even the Kelly Conway interview he challenged her more.

Hon, it's not the word, it's the construct. The construct is a lie told to reinforce false beliefs. Replacing the word doesn't fix the problem.

Bullshit. She can't afford the tuition anymore. Does she even work? $180,000 a year. She has to pull in at least $2M before taxes for that to be prudent. Her show is over- what does she do now?
She's straining to do some explaining so she doesn't embarrass herself.

Yeah the Megan interview was shit. I kept waiting for him to jump in and say, speaking of grievance and victimization, how about the gathering of snowflakes known as CPAC, meeting right now? Do you think the election was stolen by an evil deep state? Do you think there is a secret Satanist Pedophile conspiracy running the world? Cause your fucking political party and political movement sure do.
I did like the panel. And although I like John Tester, I thought it was great to finally ask a Senator are you maybe gonna stop pissing money away on a completely ridiculous and useless military project just because it's "defense." That should be asked of every Senator every day. No bigger boondoggles than pentagon boondoggles.

R98 Jeez Clyde, work harder, be better.
No "far left lib" that you imagine lives in those big cities thinks "rights for violent criminals" is central to the belief system. It may help in your extreme grievance jerk off sessions, but has little other meaning.
Social Welfare? Yeah, why in the world would the party of FDR and LBJ want to consider the current and future positive impacts of "social welfare" programs.

Anyone who thinks, like R1, that "only one side" is trying to overthrow democracy should look into Evergreen College. Campuses over the past few years are worrisome indicators of the direction many on the left wish the left would go. Placing all bets on which side is solely harming democracy is just naive.

There's seemingly a new thread for each new episode of Bill Maher's program. We haven't had this happen since the Sally Field Programme went off the air a decade ago. Some people are really obsessed with Maher.

I hate cancel culture too and think that everyone has lost their fucking minds. But, at the same time, you can't be pissed off the the "left"/progressives are cancelling people via social media mobs and not also get pissed off when the right does the exact same thing. Colin Kaepernick is still not playing football. Janet Jackson still hasn't come back from showing her titty.
If you want to have a discussion about cancel culture, then let's have a discussion about it, but you can't just frame it through the lens of white people being cancelled by liberals, because conservatives have built cancelling into their party platforms.

hell, r106, you could ask CPAC why they needed to cancel Young Pharaoh. Now he's a complete asshole, a ridiculously anti-Semitic oafish fool who nobody should like or respect, but he was invited to speak and then when people pointed out he's an asshole he was dis-invited. What exactly is the reason to not have him speak if "everyone should have their say and everyone should be able to speak even if we disagree with the particular message"? What is the thinking behind cancel culture is bad, but we have to only allow this or that view to have a platform?

R84, it apparently bears reinforcing for you: Jesus was a literary figure, a 𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 of a Jew crafted by 2nd century gentiles to serve as a mouthpiece for criticizing and invalidating Judaism. As a literary character serving the various needs of the gentile peoples who crafted him (as opposed to actual Jews), he could and can be said to appear any way they choose to imagine him.

I watched this episode this afternoon, and had very little regard for it, particularly after Megyn Kelly made the false equivalency, comparing "Russiagate" (which she seems to attribute solely to Rachel Maddow) to loony lies of the far right. This was neither more nor less than I expected of Kelly, but Maher failed to challenge her on that point - the Trump Administration's collusion with Russia has never been disproven, the way the right seems to think it has. Rachel's reportage was sound.

But keeping the culture war going is what brings in the clicks and the ratings. The left already won the culture war a long time ago so it seems odd that all the major networks devote 90% of their coverage to identity politics. The pandemic should have unified this country but instead it only deepened the divide. I believe 100% of the blame should be cast on the media chasing profit at the expense of their integrity.

Morgan Wallen is a redneck country singer I’ve never heard of. TMZ filmed him drunk entering his house with a white drunk friend. In a joking way, Wallen called his friend a pussy and the n word. Once sober, he apologized. . For this “crime” Wallen was dropped by his label, radio refuses to play him and even streaming channels have banned him. So the attempt was made to destroy his entire life for using a slur word but not against a POC. Lucky for him, this didn’t stop his red state fans who made his album #1. In a million years, I wouldn’t buy this douches’s music but how is his treatment anything but the worst kind of McCarthyism. Actually worse than McCarthyism because that destroyed you for a political ideology not just using a single word.
He’s lucky he’s a red state hero.
