A rather good actor. What’s his story? Best known for the recent ANIMAL KINGDOM.
He was lovely in the gay classic BORSTAL BOY (2000), with a young cute Danny Dyer). I also enjoyed him opposite JRM in TANGLED (2001). He must like the U.K.

Always hot

I first noticed him in the first thing he did, an episode of Homicide: Life on the Street, in which he played a rich kid who murdered his grandparents. Best show ever on network TV. He was pretty fucking wonderful, too.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 22, 2021 11:44 PM |
He's gotta tight little bod.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 22, 2021 11:53 PM |
I remember him from outside providence. Cute guy
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 22, 2021 11:58 PM |
I remember him from Southland, right? Great show and great character.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 23, 2021 12:12 AM |
First thing I saw him in was the film adaptation of Simpatico, playing the young Nick Nolte. He was perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 23, 2021 12:13 AM |
I believe the first I saw of him was as the high school senior in the Kevin Kline film In & Out.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 23, 2021 1:26 AM |
Cute guy though a few years back he seemed to have gotten some weird plastic surgery or overdid the botox.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 23, 2021 2:06 AM |
Yea, his looks changed a bit from Southland to Animal Kingdom. He lost weight and put on muscle, but something else changed.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 23, 2021 2:13 AM |
Hatosy was the homophobic/homophilic Army grunt in Soldier's Girl (2003). His performance reminded me of my "best friend" in high school.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 23, 2021 2:16 AM |
R10 why were you best friends with a homophobe? Did he not know you were gay?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 23, 2021 11:13 AM |
He should have been cast as the gay guy in ANIMAL KINGDOM, instead of playing the hetero psycho.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 23, 2021 12:26 PM |
Can remember being shocked at how short he is, seeing him doing press for SOLDIER’S GIRL.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 23, 2021 2:05 PM |
R9 imo he lost far too much weight (not sure why), and got too tan like most American actors eventually do. Much of his original appeal was in his healthy rosy-cheeks, his pretty pale skin, and his sturdy but cute body (with a little chub on it).
He also dyes his hair an unflattering dark brown shade now, which washes him out. His natural gingerbread-gold hair was lovely.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 23, 2021 2:10 PM |
Weird surname he’s got. How is it pronounced, and where does it come from? It’s not an English name, I know that much.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 23, 2021 8:49 PM |
U.S. audiences lost their minds over the gay kiss in Borstal Boy, especially the Irish Catholics.
They should have lost their minds over the fact that the film is nothing like the book on which it’s based and from which it takes its name and characters, but whatever.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 24, 2021 6:56 PM |
He gave an excellent interview to The Advocate in 2002. Even as young as he was then, he was very gay-friendly and expressed interest in playing gay roles.

I think he's quite convincing as a psycho.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 24, 2021 9:54 PM |
R19, yes, I think he handles the role ably and is very convincing. No slight on his casting. Just wondering if he might have brought more and been even more watchable as the gay brother, from the perspective of a gay viewer.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 25, 2021 10:03 AM |
He’s lucky he got ANIMAL KINGDOM. Ip until recently he was only doing Westerns no-one’s seen.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 26, 2021 11:51 PM |
The lower half of his face is rather weak. He might have had more of a shot at being a leading man if it weren't for that fact.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 27, 2021 12:04 AM |
R22 Lower half of the face, huh? Wonder what you look like.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 27, 2021 12:30 AM |
R23 ikr, what a weirdly specific and brutal criticism to make about another person.
Shawn is doing pretty well for himself, weak jaw or no.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 5, 2021 11:53 AM |
They just showed a preview of the upcoming season of Animal Kingdom and holy fuck, his face looks weird. I don't even recognize him. Is it botox? Loss of too much fat?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 6, 2021 5:44 AM |
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned his appearance in 1998's "The Faculty."
It was a really great horror movie also starring Elijah Wood, Famke Janssen, Josh Hartnett, and Bebe Neuwirth.
Plus, Shawn showed his cute little butt in the showers!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 6, 2021 6:02 AM |
Does Shawn Hatosy have halitosis?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 6, 2021 6:04 AM |
The best thing about Shawn is that he has no problem with nudity!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 6, 2021 6:05 AM |
There's a burn victim quality to his face.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 6, 2021 6:12 AM |
the new episode of Animal Kingdom is on at 9:00 PM tonight
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 12, 2021 1:19 AM |
And here he is in Animal Kingdom. There's more going on than weight loss, it looks like. I like Hatosy and always have, but in terms of looks he sort of peaked in Southland ... which is a good place to peak, given that it's one of the best TV shows ever made.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 12, 2021 1:43 AM |
That’s not from “The Faculty,” r26. I don’t think they actually show his butt in that one, though I wondered if they actually filmed it with nudity but then reframed/edited it out. That movie went through a lot of post-production reshaping.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 12, 2021 1:45 AM |
I think he’s just gotten too lean. I used to see him at Starbucks in West Hollywood after his workout at the gym across the street. He was very friendly and nice - zero attitude. Zero gay vibe. Just seems normal for an actor.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 12, 2021 1:53 AM |
Curiously The Faculty was the only role I ever found him attractive in and even then I was more enamored with Josh Hartnett.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 12, 2021 2:07 AM |
Yeah, there was a shower scene in the Faculty but without nudity. Shawn didn't do nudity until much later in his career.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 12, 2021 2:09 AM |
The ass scene r26 refers to was from an episode of Southland.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 12, 2021 2:14 AM |
I think the only thing I've seen him is was In & Out, where he played one of Kevin Kline's students.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 12, 2021 2:17 AM |
R14
[quote]Can remember being shocked at how short he is, seeing him doing press for SOLDIER’S GIRL.
But Lee Pace is like 6'5." Troy Garity looks even taller though the internet says 6'2." They'd make an average 5'9" look short.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 12, 2021 3:53 AM |
r27 I believe his name is HAT-o-sy.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 12, 2021 4:35 AM |
R39, 5'9' IS short.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 13, 2021 1:23 AM |
Borstal Boy gives me so much nostalgia for a time I never experienced.
Honestly, it really is a saccharine and neutered account of the raucous Behan's real troubled life, but nonetheless it's one of those films that just grabs you by the heartstrings anyway. It's a perfect gay comfort watch.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 12, 2022 11:18 PM |
R41 - No, no it isn't. The average height for a man in the U.S. is 5'9". Worldwide, the extremes are an average of 6' for The Netherlands and 5'3" for Guatemala.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 12, 2022 11:31 PM |
R43, there's an obviously factor you're missing there. See if you can figure it out.
Meanwhile, for everyone else, the average height of white American males is a bit over 5'10', so yes Hatosy is short for a white guy, which is the point. He might be a giant among the indigenous tribes of the Amazon jungle, but among Euro- and African-Americans, he is short.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 13, 2022 2:50 AM |
^^ obvious, not obviously. Obviously, I shouldn't post after my evening cocktail.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 13, 2022 2:51 AM |
[post redacted because independent.co.uk thinks that links to their ridiculous rag are a bad thing. Somebody might want to tell them how the internet works. Or not. We don't really care. They do suck though. Our advice is that you should not click on the link and whatever you do, don't read their truly terrible articles.]

R44 - Nice strawman attempt. You plainly said that 5'9" was short for a man -- nothing about race, ethnicity, or even nationality. I responded with data to which you replied with something more rational (5'10") but still pulled out of your ass. You seem to have an issue about height.
R45 - Friends don't let friends like R44 drink and post.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 13, 2022 12:38 PM |
I remember his character giving off homoerotic vibes in Alpha Dog.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 13, 2022 6:14 PM |
His last name always makes me think of Haysi Fantayzee.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 13, 2022 9:10 PM |
Danny Dyer used to be so cute, earnest and perky. He's lovely at R42 in his little sailor outfit, all determined to be a good professional film actor. What went so wrong?
