These awards aren’t woke enough.

by Anonymousreply 3February 21, 2021 5:28 PM

Jada?

by Anonymousreply 4February 21, 2021 5:31 PM

Who says they're not woke enough?

if spike lee wins much i will kick my tv in.

by Anonymousreply 6February 22, 2021 3:31 AM

These two overrated has beens hosting? No thanks.

by Anonymousreply 7February 22, 2021 3:43 AM

r6 He and his film didn't even get nominated. He must be so mad that his kids agreed to be the guides or whatever they now call what used to be Miss Golden Globes.

by Anonymousreply 8February 22, 2021 6:19 AM

Golden Globes Ambassadors.

Spike's son joins the short list of male Golden Globes Ambassadors - Pierce Brosnan's two sons, Michael J. Fox's son, Lorenzo Lamas' son, Clark Gable's son and Freddie Prinze Jr.

by Anonymousreply 9February 22, 2021 6:34 AM

Spike's daughter is quite pretty.

by Anonymousreply 10February 22, 2021 7:04 AM

Nepotism anyone?

by Anonymousreply 11February 22, 2021 7:13 AM

r11 that is the whole idea of Miss Golden Globes/Ambassadors. They are all second generation "actors,"

Pretty rare that any of them actually get a career though.

by Anonymousreply 12February 22, 2021 7:18 AM

Since so many of the nominees will be home for this, does that mean they'll be more buzzed than usual for the globes?

by Anonymousreply 13February 28, 2021 7:29 AM

Who will be presenting

Hole.

by Anonymousreply 14February 28, 2021 7:47 AM

Sounds awkward and boring. It needs Ricky Gervais. And is there much interest in the nominated films and performances? Like the Super Bowl, I predict low viewership.

by Anonymousreply 15February 28, 2021 8:02 AM

A bicoastal ceremony, R13??? Oh my Lord, my pastor warned me about them bicoastal people. Their livin' there lives in sin, not obeyin' the rules laid out in the Bible. God made Charleston and Charlotte, not Charleston and San Francisco. Help them, Jesus!

Now if you'll excuse me I gots ta pick up Ashneigh, Teafanny, Madysynn, K-Leigh and Palyn from pole dancing practice. My girls are gonna be awesome cheerleaders!

by Anonymousreply 16February 28, 2021 8:13 AM

Who will win Best Actress in a comedy?

by Anonymousreply 17February 28, 2021 8:56 AM

R17 Anybody but Rosamund Pike is fine with me.

by Anonymousreply 18February 28, 2021 9:03 AM

Why not Pikey?

by Anonymousreply 19February 28, 2021 9:05 AM

R19 Her performance is one note. I generally like her but hated her and more so the film so much.

by Anonymousreply 20February 28, 2021 9:08 AM

I cannot stand Tina and Amy, neither are funny

by Anonymousreply 21February 28, 2021 11:43 AM

This Boston U film student is livestreaming his predictions and reactions. Damn, he’s cute.

by Anonymousreply 22February 28, 2021 11:44 PM

Is this also the thread for the shitty virtual red carpet?

by Anonymousreply 23February 28, 2021 11:47 PM

Bob “Better Call Saul” Odenkirk just dissed my tv husband Jason Bateman by fawning over his other fellow nominees and completely ignoring JB. Hope that means JB wins even if these awards are a joke.

In other news, Ghouliana is wearing a ratty weave and a reject from the Showgirls costume vault.

by Anonymousreply 24February 28, 2021 11:50 PM

R15, I doubt that. I think the ratings will be big. There’s a huge demand for shit like this after what we’ve been through.

by Anonymousreply 25February 28, 2021 11:52 PM

The BU kid is swearing up and down that Boseman is sweeping tonight and winning Best Actor at the Oscars. He admits he hasn’t seen The Father yet. I have and there’s no fucking way Hopkins loses over Boseman.

by Anonymousreply 26February 28, 2021 11:55 PM

Karamo.

Ewww.

by Anonymousreply 27February 28, 2021 11:55 PM

This red carpet is one big Debbie Downer.

by Anonymousreply 28February 28, 2021 11:58 PM

I love Jane Lynch hosting!

by Anonymousreply 29March 1, 2021 12:07 AM

The black hostess is from “This is Us.” She’s a strong actress. But is she pregnant or just fat in the belly?

by Anonymousreply 30March 1, 2021 12:08 AM

Is this the official watch thread?

by Anonymousreply 31March 1, 2021 12:24 AM

Laverne Cox would gp the the opening of a tampon

by Anonymousreply 32March 1, 2021 12:25 AM

I’ve loved the deft takedowns that Fey and Poehler have handed the Hollywood elite at previous GGs. I’m ready again for some more.

by Anonymousreply 33March 1, 2021 12:31 AM

R33 = DJT

by Anonymousreply 34March 1, 2021 12:34 AM

Trying to be helpful, I made a thread directing people to this thread.

Now watch, the fucking twats will start posting in THAT thread.

Thanks for starting this OP.

Yawn. Are there actually still media that people watch and that its participants win awards for? Bye..

by Anonymousreply 36March 1, 2021 12:38 AM

Enough for you to comment r36

by Anonymousreply 37March 1, 2021 12:40 AM

So has this thing started and it's too boring to comment on, or are we still waiting?

I am imbibing so if I make no sense I apologize in advance.

by Anonymousreply 38March 1, 2021 12:47 AM

R38, it starts in 12 minutes! Everybody get prepared to get naked,

by Anonymousreply 39March 1, 2021 12:48 AM

I'm ready to be underwhelmed.

by Anonymousreply 40March 1, 2021 12:49 AM

From the coverage it looks like there are no movie stars.

by Anonymousreply 41March 1, 2021 12:51 AM

R32 = LITERAL VIOLENCE!

by Anonymousreply 42March 1, 2021 12:57 AM

Tina and Amy... who interesting

by Anonymousreply 43March 1, 2021 1:02 AM

Yummy gams Tina

by Anonymousreply 44March 1, 2021 1:04 AM

Did some BDSM freak design Amy's outfit?

by Anonymousreply 45March 1, 2021 1:07 AM

Well, they’re not treating the Foreign Press with kid gloves.

by Anonymousreply 46March 1, 2021 1:09 AM

Crazy not one black person is on the HFPA

by Anonymousreply 47March 1, 2021 1:09 AM

Tina and Amy are lame I knew they would be.

by Anonymousreply 48March 1, 2021 1:10 AM

Ugh that nepotist cunt Laura Dern.

by Anonymousreply 49March 1, 2021 1:10 AM

OK, get to getting on the commentary please. I am relying on you witty bitches for my entertainment tonight as the TV is WAY too far away (next room) and I finally got comfortable, which at my age is a big fucking process.

Just you wait you little whippersnappers.

by Anonymousreply 50March 1, 2021 1:10 AM

No one clapped for Bill Murray?

by Anonymousreply 51March 1, 2021 1:10 AM

Turning it off. This is unbearable

by Anonymousreply 52March 1, 2021 1:11 AM

The only movie star is Covid chaser Margot Robbie.

by Anonymousreply 53March 1, 2021 1:11 AM

Jared Leto looks like he doesn’t even wanna be there

by Anonymousreply 54March 1, 2021 1:12 AM

Daniel definitely deserved his win!!! The performance was brilliant...as in one of the best I've seen in years.

PS: People should go back and watch Amy and Tina's previous GG opening monologues...they were brilliant. Tonight's sucked.

by Anonymousreply 55March 1, 2021 1:13 AM

Did they all change their votes to the blacks after the backlash? And why is everyone British???

by Anonymousreply 56March 1, 2021 1:15 AM

It's a mess

by Anonymousreply 57March 1, 2021 1:16 AM

I guess the NYT article where they said that if black nominees didn’t win, they’d be hell to pay had an effect.

by Anonymousreply 58March 1, 2021 1:16 AM

Turned away from the Jamaica guy with marbles in his mouth to "Theater of Blood" I recorded earlier. Diana Rigg and Vincent Price having a ball hamming it up.

by Anonymousreply 59March 1, 2021 1:17 AM

I’m sure John Boyega’s speech was wise and gracious but I only understood about five words.

by Anonymousreply 60March 1, 2021 1:17 AM

What the fuck is he saying???

by Anonymousreply 61March 1, 2021 1:17 AM

The Father? Never heard of it. What a strange show.

by Anonymousreply 62March 1, 2021 1:19 AM

Stella got her groove back in that purple gown. She looks amazing.

by Anonymousreply 63March 1, 2021 1:19 AM
I guess the NYT article where they said that if black nominees didn’t win, they’d be hell to pay had an effect.

And I guess this wouldn't be a Datalounge Award Show thread without someone eternally bitching about so many non-white winners.

by Anonymousreply 64March 1, 2021 1:20 AM

Kaluuya just killed his Oscar chances with that awful, unintelligible, self serving speech.

by Anonymousreply 65March 1, 2021 1:20 AM

R65 i don't know what the fuck that was. But he made an ass of himself

by Anonymousreply 66March 1, 2021 1:22 AM

It really is sad. I hate it when awards shows pander, but so far the best performances in their categories have won. Regardless, some bitter old white queens can't resist diminishing the talents of black men. Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 67March 1, 2021 1:22 AM

I can’t stand these zoom awards. It’s uncomfortable to watch. See ya next year

by Anonymousreply 68March 1, 2021 1:23 AM

Turn off the fucking phone. WTF

by Anonymousreply 69March 1, 2021 1:23 AM

Ugh Canadians

by Anonymousreply 70March 1, 2021 1:24 AM

This show is a disaster!

by Anonymousreply 71March 1, 2021 1:24 AM

R69, I think it was a bit. She was being played off.

by Anonymousreply 72March 1, 2021 1:24 AM

Daniel was brilliant in Judas. The Oscar voters won’t care about his accent.

by Anonymousreply 73March 1, 2021 1:24 AM

WTF was with the phone. Was that a gag or for real?

by Anonymousreply 74March 1, 2021 1:24 AM

What, Tiffiny Haddish still isn't over after her horrific performance in Good Times Live?

by Anonymousreply 75March 1, 2021 1:25 AM

I can't stand Tiffany Haddish...she's just way too much.

by Anonymousreply 76March 1, 2021 1:26 AM

Did they really think people were going to watch this shitshow?

by Anonymousreply 77March 1, 2021 1:26 AM

Wolf Walkers deserved the award.

by Anonymousreply 78March 1, 2021 1:26 AM

I’ll lie there with you, Yahya.

by Anonymousreply 79March 1, 2021 1:27 AM

Would someone please check in on Donald Sutherland and see if he's still breathing. TIA*

*thanks in advance, not the stroke.

by Anonymousreply 80March 1, 2021 1:28 AM

White people -- commence with the exploding heads!

by Anonymousreply 81March 1, 2021 1:29 AM

R73 I found the film slight.

by Anonymousreply 82March 1, 2021 1:29 AM

We're sorry. So sorry. Here are some awards for you. Will that make it better?

by Anonymousreply 83March 1, 2021 1:29 AM

It is what it is guys. Things should be back to normal on the next Globes in 022. Tina and Amy are pretty lame, but it’s better than just announcing the winners via press release.

by Anonymousreply 84March 1, 2021 1:31 AM

James Corden will be Zooming in from the toilet.

by Anonymousreply 85March 1, 2021 1:32 AM

I guess I have to watch Mank again to see if it's really that great. 20 minutes into it I had sufficient of Gary Oldman.

by Anonymousreply 86March 1, 2021 1:35 AM

What? Hugh was robbed!

by Anonymousreply 87March 1, 2021 1:35 AM

Ethan is not happy.

by Anonymousreply 88March 1, 2021 1:35 AM

During speeches, the photobombing is getting obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 89March 1, 2021 1:36 AM

Ruff also was really good but man, that miniseries was a slog.

by Anonymousreply 90March 1, 2021 1:36 AM

Mark Ruffalo is annoying

by Anonymousreply 91March 1, 2021 1:36 AM

It appears Ruffalo is sitting on a toilet.

by Anonymousreply 92March 1, 2021 1:37 AM

I can’t wait to see Cynthia Erivo as Aretha.

by Anonymousreply 93March 1, 2021 1:38 AM

Cynthia Erivo looks like an Oompa Loompa.

by Anonymousreply 94March 1, 2021 1:38 AM

Mark Ruffalo is undeniably talented, but he seems so insufferable in real life.

by Anonymousreply 95March 1, 2021 1:38 AM

I’m not sure about that lurid green dress.

by Anonymousreply 96March 1, 2021 1:39 AM

Holy fuck what I wouldn't give to live in Aaron Sorkin's home. It's beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 97March 1, 2021 1:40 AM
I guess I have to watch Mank again to see if it's really that great. 20 minutes into it I had sufficient of Gary Oldman.

I watched to the end. The only part I enjoyed was the guy imitating Orson Welles. But not so entertaining as to have been worth the film's running time. Or some award.

by Anonymousreply 98March 1, 2021 1:40 AM

Mark Ruffalo is such a blowhard

by Anonymousreply 99March 1, 2021 1:41 AM

Shit show.

by Anonymousreply 100March 1, 2021 1:41 AM

Mank was atrocious

by Anonymousreply 101March 1, 2021 1:41 AM

This comedy routine with Maya and Kenan is awful.

by Anonymousreply 102March 1, 2021 1:42 AM

Ugh...why did I know Fey and Poehler would shoehorn Maya Rudolph in here somewhere?

by Anonymousreply 103March 1, 2021 1:42 AM

This is painful.

by Anonymousreply 104March 1, 2021 1:43 AM

R87 all wonderful actors in that category, but Mark was amazing in the dual roles and he deserves every award for it.

by Anonymousreply 105March 1, 2021 1:43 AM

Ugh, the part of an awards show nobody ever asks for, but we're guaranteed to always get: Maya Rudolph and a fellow SNL alum in an overly long "comedy" routine.

by Anonymousreply 106March 1, 2021 1:44 AM

I knew the Maya troll would be here to trash her

by Anonymousreply 107March 1, 2021 1:44 AM

Mark Ruffalo was truly brilliant in his role, but the show itself was a bore.

by Anonymousreply 108March 1, 2021 1:45 AM

Horrible. I just switched to RHOA ,

by Anonymousreply 109March 1, 2021 1:45 AM

Mank's cinematography was beautiful...

by Anonymousreply 110March 1, 2021 1:46 AM

R107, I'm an unabashed Maya troll and without fail, several people beat me to the punch with far bitchier comments. Maybe she's not as beloved as you seem to think?

by Anonymousreply 111March 1, 2021 1:46 AM

west side story will win best picture

by Anonymousreply 112March 1, 2021 1:47 AM

R109, you forgot the D.

by Anonymousreply 113March 1, 2021 1:48 AM

I'm switching to Stanley Tucci at 9:00.

by Anonymousreply 114March 1, 2021 1:49 AM

I can't stand James Corden. I just wanted to say that.

by Anonymousreply 115March 1, 2021 1:51 AM

I just tuned in, no masks!

by Anonymousreply 116March 1, 2021 1:51 AM

Yikes, Spike's soon has some scary veneers.

by Anonymousreply 117March 1, 2021 1:51 AM

Fucked up having Spike Lee's kids Golden Globe ambassadors after completely snubbing his movie.

by Anonymousreply 118March 1, 2021 1:52 AM

Is Spike Lee's son gay ?

by Anonymousreply 119March 1, 2021 1:53 AM

Spike Lee's daughter and Woody Allen's son both named after Satchel Paige

by Anonymousreply 120March 1, 2021 1:54 AM

To any academy members watching this, don’t repeat this trainwreck. Also, don’t give Oscars to black people because they’re black. Just don’t.

by Anonymousreply 121March 1, 2021 1:54 AM

I renamed myself after Ronan Keating.

by Anonymousreply 122March 1, 2021 1:56 AM

Was Bonnie Franklin ignored in the Norman Lear tribute?

by Anonymousreply 123March 1, 2021 1:56 AM

Why was Norman Lear making that tribute to Carol Burnett?

by Anonymousreply 124March 1, 2021 1:57 AM

Until everyone can attend awards shows, I'm out. It's no fun if I can't gawk at what people are wearing.

by Anonymousreply 125March 1, 2021 1:57 AM
To any academy members watching this, don’t repeat this trainwreck. Also, don’t give Oscars to black people because they’re black. Just don’t.

Why not? We give Oscars to women just because they’re hot pretty much yearly.
Was Bonnie Franklin ignored in the Norman Lear tribute?

No, there was a clip of her.

by Anonymousreply 127March 1, 2021 2:00 AM

I’m hoping Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor win. After their categories I’m done with this shitshow.

by Anonymousreply 128March 1, 2021 2:01 AM

Was Norman eulogizing himself? He's only 99.

by Anonymousreply 129March 1, 2021 2:02 AM

R124 are you serious? The award is named after Burnett.

by Anonymousreply 130March 1, 2021 2:02 AM

Did anyone like Nomadland?

by Anonymousreply 131March 1, 2021 2:06 AM

Bonnie Franklin was included in the Lear tribute.

Geez, I would have thought Hayek’s English wouldn’t be at Melania level now.

by Anonymousreply 132March 1, 2021 2:06 AM

Kevin needs to tighten his tie. He looks like a slob.

by Anonymousreply 133March 1, 2021 2:07 AM

Nomadland is a pretentious piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 134March 1, 2021 2:07 AM

Kevin Bacon could afford to gain a few pounds.

by Anonymousreply 135March 1, 2021 2:07 AM

Emma! So deserved...

by Anonymousreply 136March 1, 2021 2:07 AM

R131, it was my favorite film of the year.

by Anonymousreply 137March 1, 2021 2:07 AM

Look for Emma Corrin to win the SAG Award, too. I’m voting for her.

by Anonymousreply 138March 1, 2021 2:09 AM

Over Laura Linney, R136? I think not.

by Anonymousreply 139March 1, 2021 2:09 AM

Diane Warren paid for that award.

by Anonymousreply 140March 1, 2021 2:10 AM

I thought Sarah Paulson should have won over Princess Diana but the foreign press votes on these awards.

by Anonymousreply 141March 1, 2021 2:11 AM

Trent Reznor's long hair is back!

by Anonymousreply 142March 1, 2021 2:12 AM

Tracy Morgan is Tracy Jordan...

by Anonymousreply 143March 1, 2021 2:12 AM

are these speeches pre-recorded ?

by Anonymousreply 144March 1, 2021 2:12 AM

Did Tracy Morgan actually mispronounce "soul"????

by Anonymousreply 145March 1, 2021 2:13 AM

Nicholas Hoult is so pretty.

by Anonymousreply 146March 1, 2021 2:13 AM

That last batch seemed to be, R144.

by Anonymousreply 147March 1, 2021 2:14 AM

Emma Corrin has a good shot of winning the Emmy. She showed so much range over the course of the season, going from a quietly scheming ingenue to a bitter superstar.

by Anonymousreply 148March 1, 2021 2:14 AM

R144, so far the acting trophies seem to be live. However, the Original Song and Original Score winners were pre-taped!

by Anonymousreply 149March 1, 2021 2:14 AM

Who on earth thinks that anyone wants to watch allegedly witty repartee on Zoom? Last spring, maybe. But now? Just excruciating.

by Anonymousreply 150March 1, 2021 2:14 AM

I loved hearing Tina Fey's laugh loudly ring out when Tracy Morgan mispronounced "Soul."

by Anonymousreply 151March 1, 2021 2:15 AM
Nomadland is a pretentious piece of shit.

...that was fished out of a bucket with Frances Mcdormand squatting over it.

by Anonymousreply 152March 1, 2021 2:15 AM

That breastfeeding commercial? Oy. I can hear the angry fraus typing on FB at this very moment.

by Anonymousreply 153March 1, 2021 2:18 AM

This is such a mess that is becoming fun to watch.

by Anonymousreply 154March 1, 2021 2:19 AM

This is painful.

by Anonymousreply 155March 1, 2021 2:19 AM

Ted Lasso was awesome...happy for Jason Sudeikus.

On the gossip front, he’s supposedly in quarantine with his ex-wife.

by Anonymousreply 156March 1, 2021 2:20 AM

Olivia Wilde, r156?

by Anonymousreply 157March 1, 2021 2:23 AM

Oh, Schitt’s Creek again

Nicolas Hoult looked gorgeous. I’m not a fan of his at all, he is stiff and boring and overrated in looks usually, but tonight he looked striking.

The show is stupid but I am entertained.

No one is giving black people awards just for being black. Stop the racist shit stalker troll. Seriously. How many black people won vs white tonight? Enough.

by Anonymousreply 160March 1, 2021 2:25 AM

Happy Ted Lasso won.

by Anonymousreply 161March 1, 2021 2:26 AM

R160, he was fantastic in The Great. And his ass was delicious.

by Anonymousreply 162March 1, 2021 2:27 AM

He wasn’t great in The Great. He was fine. Stiff like always

by Anonymousreply 163March 1, 2021 2:28 AM

Jason Sudeikis is the nephew of George Wendt.

by Anonymousreply 164March 1, 2021 2:29 AM

(R131) I watched it on Hulu. The whole time I kept thinking this is one of the best movies of the year. Depressing movie about a old lady living in van.

by Anonymousreply 165March 1, 2021 2:29 AM

Sean Penn looks like Larry from the 3 Stooges (after a weekend of booze and drugs).

by Anonymousreply 166March 1, 2021 2:30 AM

OK, what happened to Sean Penn's hair, skin, and face? He looks like he got locked in a dishwasher.

by Anonymousreply 167March 1, 2021 2:30 AM

It’s weird that Sean is vain enough to dye his hair when he gave up on his face decades ago.

by Anonymousreply 168March 1, 2021 2:31 AM

Ben Stiller looks old!

by Anonymousreply 169March 1, 2021 2:31 AM

Ooh...Ben Stiller's aging into a hot daddy!

by Anonymousreply 170March 1, 2021 2:31 AM

Why is Ben Stiller in NYC? Go back out West where you belong

by Anonymousreply 171March 1, 2021 2:32 AM

Ben Stiller could play his father in a Seinfeld reboot.

by Anonymousreply 172March 1, 2021 2:32 AM

That VVitch actress is scary looking.

by Anonymousreply 173March 1, 2021 2:32 AM

Is Rosamund pregnant?

by Anonymousreply 174March 1, 2021 2:32 AM

Is Rosamund Pike sitting on the floor?

by Anonymousreply 175March 1, 2021 2:33 AM

Rosamund Pike: When shitty stylists happen to good people.

by Anonymousreply 176March 1, 2021 2:33 AM

French Exit?

by Anonymousreply 177March 1, 2021 2:33 AM

Where did Sean Penn buy that wig? A joke shop. And isn’t he one of those actors that is also overstayed his welcome.

by Anonymousreply 178March 1, 2021 2:33 AM

Rosamund Pike is shocked she won!

by Anonymousreply 179March 1, 2021 2:34 AM

Margot Robbie looks like she's going to a middle school dance in 1993. those sleeves - just no!

by Anonymousreply 180March 1, 2021 2:35 AM

Uh-oh...the deplorables are gonna come for Rosamund about that "America's broken legal system" remark!

by Anonymousreply 181March 1, 2021 2:35 AM

Al Pacino has morphed into Richard Lewis!

by Anonymousreply 182March 1, 2021 2:35 AM
Rosamund Pike is shocked she won!

So am I!

by Anonymousreply 183March 1, 2021 2:36 AM

Rosamund also shaded their dear Guiliani.

by Anonymousreply 184March 1, 2021 2:36 AM

Could this show by any worse?

by Anonymousreply 185March 1, 2021 2:38 AM

How long is this show?

by Anonymousreply 186March 1, 2021 2:38 AM

Marty S. seems quite good-humoured.

by Anonymousreply 187March 1, 2021 2:39 AM

R186, 6.5 inches.

by Anonymousreply 188March 1, 2021 2:39 AM

R122, That better not be a mock of the great Ronan Keating! He WAS Boyzone!

by Anonymousreply 189March 1, 2021 2:40 AM

R186...Amy was joking, but not earlier: The show will likely last 3 hours.

by Anonymousreply 190March 1, 2021 2:40 AM

Usually it takes a little while to clean up a car crash in Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 191March 1, 2021 2:41 AM

Jason Bateman still looks great. Very attractive

by Anonymousreply 192March 1, 2021 2:41 AM

Thought for sure the chick from Borat would win given it’s the HFPA. I’m happy for Rosamund even though the movie is flawed.

by Anonymousreply 193March 1, 2021 2:41 AM

Josh O’Connor easily gave my favorite television performance of 2020.

by Anonymousreply 194March 1, 2021 2:41 AM

Josh did a great job, because I wanted to slap him repeatedly.

by Anonymousreply 195March 1, 2021 2:42 AM

Jason Sudeikis is so sexy. Olivia Wilde was crazy to give him up.

by Anonymousreply 196March 1, 2021 2:42 AM

Jason always looks good.

by Anonymousreply 197March 1, 2021 2:42 AM

I’m so happy for Josh.

by Anonymousreply 198March 1, 2021 2:42 AM

Love Josh O'Connor.

by Anonymousreply 199March 1, 2021 2:42 AM

I Care A Lot was awful.

But I like Rosamund so I don’t mind.

Josh is adorable.

by Anonymousreply 200March 1, 2021 2:42 AM

R199, yeah; great speech; seems to genuinely care.

by Anonymousreply 201March 1, 2021 2:43 AM

Josh is adorable

by Anonymousreply 202March 1, 2021 2:43 AM

G should not wear bangs.

by Anonymousreply 205March 1, 2021 2:48 AM

R205 yes.

by Anonymousreply 206March 1, 2021 2:49 AM

The doctor stuff? Someone got paid for coming up with this idea. Tsk tsk tsk.

by Anonymousreply 207March 1, 2021 2:49 AM

Is that Baby Samara from The Ring?

by Anonymousreply 208March 1, 2021 2:49 AM

by Anonymousreply 209March 1, 2021 2:51 AM

Tina and Amy are completely bombing.

by Anonymousreply 210March 1, 2021 2:51 AM

Ben Stiller is in NY because he’s directing/producing a TV series.

by Anonymousreply 211March 1, 2021 2:54 AM

I guess I underestimated how much Tina and Amy’s chemistry is reliant on them being in the same room.

by Anonymousreply 212March 1, 2021 2:55 AM

[...]

by Anonymousreply 213March 1, 2021 2:55 AM

How awkward...Peter Morgan sitting alone in his office while his ex, Gillian Anderson is glammed up elsewhere.

by Anonymousreply 214March 1, 2021 2:56 AM
Tina and Amy are completely bombing.

In fairness they have damn little to work with here that would be politically permissible for them to speak aloud

by Anonymousreply 215March 1, 2021 3:00 AM

Wasn't Jane arrested again a couple of years ago? Where's that mugshot?

by Anonymousreply 216March 1, 2021 3:00 AM

Man, Jane Fonda looks phenomenal for 83.

by Anonymousreply 217March 1, 2021 3:03 AM

Yes, there's surgery going on. But Fonda looks great.

by Anonymousreply 218March 1, 2021 3:03 AM

Please Let this be the last time Tina and Amy host anything.

by Anonymousreply 219March 1, 2021 3:04 AM

Nice speech, Jane.

by Anonymousreply 220March 1, 2021 3:06 AM

R219, NEVER!!!

by Anonymousreply 221March 1, 2021 3:07 AM

Happy Birthday, Tommy Tune!

by Anonymousreply 222March 1, 2021 3:07 AM

Jesus, how the fuck did Daniel Kaluuya win anything?

by Anonymousreply 223March 1, 2021 3:07 AM

Jane Fonda looks phenomenal for 83. Whatever work she’s had done was well worth the money. She looks great.

by Anonymousreply 224March 1, 2021 3:08 AM

R223....sit down.

by Anonymousreply 225March 1, 2021 3:08 AM

I take it the consensus is that Jane looks great, and this is not another "Girl, no" moment?

by Anonymousreply 226March 1, 2021 3:08 AM

Ain’t it past her bedtime?

by Anonymousreply 227March 1, 2021 3:09 AM

R255... eat shit

by Anonymousreply 228March 1, 2021 3:09 AM

Yeah, R255, eat shit!

by Anonymousreply 229March 1, 2021 3:10 AM

R168 Is that his hair? I mean I know he paid for it but that's a wig!

by Anonymousreply 230March 1, 2021 3:11 AM

This Hamilton nomination as a "motion picture" is bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 231March 1, 2021 3:11 AM

I bet it’s so hard for the nominees and winners. To realize they’re not going to about 25 after parties. To have their asses kissed. And unlimited booze and drugs. I feel so bad for them. It’s what they’re a custom too.🙄🙄

by Anonymousreply 232March 1, 2021 3:12 AM

The pressure’s on R255 to be a real bitch.

by Anonymousreply 233March 1, 2021 3:12 AM

Last year was all about modesty, but this year the titties are on full display!

by Anonymousreply 234March 1, 2021 3:12 AM

Thank Aaron Rodgers!!!

by Anonymousreply 235March 1, 2021 3:13 AM

The HFPA has always loved Jodie.

by Anonymousreply 236March 1, 2021 3:13 AM

Alexandra went full man.

by Anonymousreply 237March 1, 2021 3:13 AM

Jodie thanked Aaron Rodgers...is that because he’s a gay man marrying her co-star?

by Anonymousreply 238March 1, 2021 3:14 AM

And R276 can eat shit afterwards, too.

Jane Fonda' s speech, which could have been treacle, embarrassing, expected... was right on target. And powerful, and relevant (like too much of the media pandering misses...).

by Anonymousreply 239March 1, 2021 3:14 AM

Did Tan France have a sex change and become Jodie Foster's wife?

And I guess we found out what happened to Precious from SofL--Jodie kept him all these year and he grew enormous.

by Anonymousreply 240March 1, 2021 3:14 AM

Bullcrap...that was Helena's award!

by Anonymousreply 241March 1, 2021 3:15 AM

I wish I could figure out Gillian Anderson’s schtick. Tonight she’s using the American accent, but during press for S4 of The Crown, she went with the British accent 🤔

by Anonymousreply 242March 1, 2021 3:16 AM

It would be delicious if Jodie were to beat G at the Oscars again. Or Olivia. Or Cher. Really anybody.

by Anonymousreply 243March 1, 2021 3:16 AM

R233/r239 -- which thread are you on?!

by Anonymousreply 244March 1, 2021 3:16 AM

R243 Glenn has the Oscar this year. Jodie isn’t even up for SAG. And even if she’s nominated they won’t give Jodie a third or Maria (may prevail at SAG) an Oscar for that silly, gross performance.

by Anonymousreply 257March 1, 2021 3:32 AM

Anthony Hopkins will still be winning the Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 258March 1, 2021 3:33 AM

Chadwick Bozeman was a great actor, but his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was supporting, and it wasn’t better than Daniel Kaluuya’s. Hopefully at the Oscars, Steven Yeun takes the 5th spot.

by Anonymousreply 259March 1, 2021 3:34 AM

Is anyone else still watching? This thread is really slow tonight.

Trumpeter Boseman is winning the Oscar. Unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 263March 1, 2021 3:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 266March 1, 2021 3:38 AM

I am thrilled that Chadwick and Chloe won.

by Anonymousreply 267March 1, 2021 3:38 AM

Emma Corin's task was impossible and she beat my expectations by far.

by Anonymousreply 268March 1, 2021 3:39 AM

R266, it’s a joke. Chadwick played a trumpeter in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

by Anonymousreply 269March 1, 2021 3:40 AM

Trumpeter, not Trumper, R266. Plus he's dead, so life already canceled him.

by Anonymousreply 270March 1, 2021 3:40 AM

I’m thinking Chadwick will win supporting for Da Five Bloods and Hopkins will win lead for The Father at the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 271March 1, 2021 3:41 AM

I'm betting on Steve Yuen.

by Anonymousreply 272March 1, 2021 3:44 AM

I hope so. Hopkins deserves it, and it would knock out Kaluuya. I didn't love Boseman this year, but he should have been nominated for both 42 and Get on Up, so I will be happy to see him get an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 273March 1, 2021 3:45 AM

Borat? Really?

by Anonymousreply 276March 1, 2021 3:48 AM

I didn't think anything about Ma Bottoms Sexual Ass to be anything award worthy. Im sorry I'm just not gonna pretend

Sacha looks very sexy tonight

by Anonymousreply 286March 1, 2021 3:53 AM

Is it really an honor just to be nominated or is it bitterly disappointing to lose?

by Anonymousreply 287March 1, 2021 3:53 AM

When did Sacha get with Amy Adams? She looks very cute tonight!

by Anonymousreply 288March 1, 2021 3:53 AM

Mulligan or Day!

by Anonymousreply 289March 1, 2021 3:54 AM

The shock when Borat wins Best Picture at the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 290March 1, 2021 3:54 AM

Gross....is anyone seeing this What the Gush Tampax commercial? That shit’s just wrong.

by Anonymousreply 291March 1, 2021 3:54 AM

R287 depends. Sometimes just being nominated helps give an actor a career boost. Sometimes them winning (especially too soon or in a role deemed unworthy) hurts their career.

Marisa Tomei is the perfect example of that.

by Anonymousreply 292March 1, 2021 3:55 AM

Is L’Oréal Paris a terminal disease? Viola’s intensity is...confusing.

by Anonymousreply 293March 1, 2021 3:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 294March 1, 2021 3:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 295March 1, 2021 3:57 AM

WHAT THE FUCK??

by Anonymousreply 296March 1, 2021 3:59 AM

Carey not happy.

by Anonymousreply 297March 1, 2021 3:59 AM

Um, I like an upset/Cinderella story, but I’ve only heard underwhelming things about The US vs Billie Holliday.

by Anonymousreply 298March 1, 2021 4:00 AM

Carey not happy, but that Variety film reviewer is!

by Anonymousreply 299March 1, 2021 4:00 AM

But I'm thrilled. I can't stand Carey Mulligan or her shitty movie.

by Anonymousreply 300March 1, 2021 4:00 AM

So, the woman who was Boseman’s wife for only a few months, abandoned him in front of a hospital and only probably got married for the insurance pay off gets to speak for him, while his parents who have known him his whole life sit silently seething?

by Anonymousreply 301March 1, 2021 4:00 AM

Mulligan was robbed? I haven’t seen Day

by Anonymousreply 302March 1, 2021 4:00 AM

Chloe Zhao is ADORABLE.

by Anonymousreply 303March 1, 2021 4:00 AM

Hooray for Nomadland!

by Anonymousreply 304March 1, 2021 4:01 AM

What have they done to David Fincher?

by Anonymousreply 305March 1, 2021 4:01 AM

Fincher looks angry

by Anonymousreply 306March 1, 2021 4:02 AM

Chloe and Frances seem like they’d be sympatico.

by Anonymousreply 307March 1, 2021 4:02 AM

Wait. Mulligan was upset?

by Anonymousreply 308March 1, 2021 4:02 AM

Carey's movie sounded just too annoyingly woke and p.c. for me: "#MeToo, the Motion Picture."

This blunts her momentum, and suggests the Oscar winner will more likely be Frances McDormand (who was winning all the critics's prizes before the Mulligan swell began.)

by Anonymousreply 309March 1, 2021 4:02 AM

Once again, the Golden Globes came through on the threat to run more than 3 hours. And once again I watched until the very end, despite claiming I’d walk away after the first hour.

by Anonymousreply 310March 1, 2021 4:02 AM

It’s been made patently obvious tonight that the HFPA have been compensating for their embarrassing lack of inclusion. At least this will help the Oscar race be a tad more interesting.

by Anonymousreply 311March 1, 2021 4:03 AM

I don’t see Andra Day winning the Oscar. I actually feel she will end up not nominated

by Anonymousreply 312March 1, 2021 4:03 AM

See you down the road! Now get outta here so I can shit in this 🪣 in peace!

by Anonymousreply 313March 1, 2021 4:03 AM
What have they done to David Fincher?

by Anonymousreply 314March 1, 2021 4:04 AM

R310 That’s totally me too (not #MeToo)

by Anonymousreply 315March 1, 2021 4:04 AM

What is Andra Day?

by Anonymousreply 316March 1, 2021 4:04 AM

I don’t think Andra Day deserves an Oscar, but Renee Zellweger ruined the argument against such a thing happening with her win last year. Judy was horrible and Renee was just okay...yet she won Best Actress.

by Anonymousreply 317March 1, 2021 4:05 AM

The chick who played Diana in The Crown??? WTF? She was a terrible bore!

by Anonymousreply 318March 1, 2021 4:06 AM

Paramount is the studio that took the HFPA members to Paris (for Emily in Paris). Since they got caught taking bribes for that, I'm guessing they decided to reward Paramount elsewhere -- guess who produced The United States versus Billie Holiday?

lol

by Anonymousreply 319March 1, 2021 4:07 AM

I liked Dig, but Carey was to young for the part and her role wasn’t that big.

by Anonymousreply 320March 1, 2021 4:09 AM

When there are two absolute front runners and you award a total wild card you don't help your credibility. Or are they just full on we'll do what will make Twitter happy now.

by Anonymousreply 321March 1, 2021 4:10 AM

Is Nomadland any less boring than The Rider was?

by Anonymousreply 322March 1, 2021 4:11 AM

Because of COVID, this is the year that anything goes. The Oscar nominees list will look different that tonight's, and will also have wild card wins and upsets. It's that kind of year.

Look for the boring predictability to return next year, with a beginning to return to post-COVID normalcy.

by Anonymousreply 323March 1, 2021 4:13 AM

R292 Tomei has been nominated twice since her win. Fail.

R312 Days Oscar nomination chances just got a huge boost. I think Mulligan will prevail for the Oscar. McDormand still might win a third if she wins for producing Nomadland.

by Anonymousreply 324March 1, 2021 4:15 AM

They gave about as many awards to black actors and actresses as they could so as to make up for the nominations controversy, and that is completely why Andra Day won.

Unless the Oscars nominations are similarly criticized, they will likely not do the same thing with Best Actress.

by Anonymousreply 325March 1, 2021 4:19 AM

okay, i put this on in the background. It's one of those stupid award shows.

by Anonymousreply 326March 1, 2021 4:19 AM

Big win for Jodie Foster! She might actually win her 3rd Oscar this year, which would put her in elite company.

by Anonymousreply 327March 1, 2021 4:19 AM

J'adore Angela.

by Anonymousreply 328March 1, 2021 4:20 AM

Where is this being head?

by Anonymousreply 329March 1, 2021 4:20 AM

Tracy Morgan mispronouncing Soul was the only genuinely funny thing to happen

by Anonymousreply 330March 1, 2021 4:22 AM

so how did Andra Day win over Mulligan and McDormand? was she really that good?

by Anonymousreply 331March 1, 2021 4:22 AM

R324 yes, Eventually but her win was considered a joke and she was not offered good roles for years.

by Anonymousreply 332March 1, 2021 4:22 AM

Mulligan doesn’t seem that liked.

by Anonymousreply 333March 1, 2021 4:23 AM
Big win for Jodie Foster! She might actually win her 3rd Oscar this year, which would put her in elite company.

Unlikely. The HFPA has always had a hard-on for her since they know she's letter-perfect in French.

by Anonymousreply 334March 1, 2021 4:23 AM

Foster and Hopkins will likely present together at the oscars for silence of the lambs 30th anniversary. If I was producing the show I'd try to make it happen. Good story for them both to win again.

by Anonymousreply 335March 1, 2021 4:23 AM

Jodie Foster is not winning an Oscar. Amanda Seyfried is still the front runner. As noted above, the HFPA loved Jodie...she’s received 11 nominations, 3 wins, and the Cecil B DeMille Award.

by Anonymousreply 336March 1, 2021 4:24 AM

The same Amanda Seyfried that was snubbed by SAG r336? And in a movie that was just shut out at the Globes and seems to have no passion behind it? That Amanda Seyfried?

by Anonymousreply 337March 1, 2021 4:27 AM

Andra Day's award was bought and paid for by the studio. There's been a heavily promoted(paid) Tweet all day on Twitter for the movie, which indicates that they knew Andra was going to win. Her win was not legitimate.

by Anonymousreply 338March 1, 2021 4:27 AM

Here we go with the bullshit.

R338 no. You claimed that about Rami too. And then he won the SAG, BAFTA and OSCAR

by Anonymousreply 339March 1, 2021 4:28 AM

The Guilty White People Golden Globes

by Anonymousreply 340March 1, 2021 4:29 AM

Well I hope this was the death rattle for Amy & Tina hosting anymore shows, these overrated gasbags need to move into obscurity.

by Anonymousreply 341March 1, 2021 4:29 AM

Is that the first time Jodie was seen cozy with her wife on tv? I bet John Hinckley is having a crazy fit, if he didn't know she was gay.

Sacha beat out Lin-Manuel 2 times in a row, but "Borat" was actually a movie, and Mr. Cohen is actually a really good actor.

Haven't seen Jason Sudeikis' show, but can a lousy, prolonged speech and not seeming grateful enough screw you out of other awards? Don Cheadle kept moving his hands to finish up, which Sudeikis made a little less embarrassing by at least acknowledging.

Who were the two unfunny broads handing out the Best Comedy and Musical?

by Anonymousreply 342March 1, 2021 4:30 AM

With this increasing "political correctness" in the US, I think more and more people especially the filmmakers will take winning the top prizes at Cannes, BAFTA, Venice, Berlin... more seriously than Golden Globe and Oscar, and I don't think I am alone on this.

by Anonymousreply 343March 1, 2021 4:31 AM

Don't underestimate Jodie Foster's Oscar chances. She's been in the industry for 50 years and has many friends who love and respect her. I would say that she's now the frontrunner in the Supporting Actress category.

by Anonymousreply 344March 1, 2021 4:32 AM

I think Jodie now has a slot. But most of those nominees are lackluster. The grandmother in Minari is the only deserving winner

by Anonymousreply 345March 1, 2021 4:33 AM

Michelle Pfeiffer deserves an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 346March 1, 2021 4:35 AM

R344 50 years?

by Anonymousreply 347March 1, 2021 4:36 AM

Golden Globes is only voted on by like 90 people! It's usually known for being a fun ceremony to attend, since they normally are at table with free-flowing liquor (and I guess food, too). Plus folks in show biz love to honor themselves, so since famous people are involved, they've blown up its importance -- at least the Oscars and SAG Awards have people in the business who presumably know quality-- though of course that, like any awards show, has its biases anyway. Being a Golden Globe nominee or winner is something else the press can write about you in your publicity or obituary.

by Anonymousreply 348March 1, 2021 4:36 AM

Sooooooo BAD!!! I muted the program after the monologue. NO IMPRESSED. not even funny.

by Anonymousreply 349March 1, 2021 4:37 AM

Did they just decide today to change their votes to Black people?

by Anonymousreply 350March 1, 2021 4:37 AM

Amanda Seyfried's Oscar chances died when she couldn't even get into SAG in this weak-ass year and being the biggest female name in a Fincher film.

She couldn't even get a consolation Globe tonight. She's toast.

R347 Jodie was a young girl on shows like "Courtship of Eddie's Father" in the late 60s and before that had been the model for the little girl whose bikini bottom was whisked away by a little dog in Coppertone ads in the mid-60s.

by Anonymousreply 352March 1, 2021 4:38 AM

DEAR. GOD. Gillian Anderson winning for that atrocious bit of acting in The Crown is down right criminal. She was terrible as Thatcher!

by Anonymousreply 353March 1, 2021 4:39 AM

Is it pronounced with a hard “G” or a hard “J?”

by Anonymousreply 354March 1, 2021 4:41 AM

Jodie winning Supporting is starting to make more sense. She hasn't won an Oscar since the early 90s. No one really cares about Supporting Oscars anyway. In the old days, winners wouldn't even get a statuette -- they'd get a plaque. It's the less-than Oscar.

Glenn is not winning for that atrocious movie. Seyfried might even miss getting a nomination at this point. Maria from the Borat movie will be in Supporting this time, as will the grandma from Minari.

by Anonymousreply 355March 1, 2021 4:42 AM
at least the Oscars and SAG Awards have people in the business who presumably know quality

R348 that's a thing of the past, quality or not, the award shows like Oscar now is required to preempt 30% nomination slots for the black.

by Anonymousreply 356March 1, 2021 4:42 AM

Poor Glenn can't even beat Jodie in just above average performance

by Anonymousreply 357March 1, 2021 4:42 AM

I like that guy. Compassion is so sexy.

by Anonymousreply 358March 1, 2021 4:43 AM

Jodie getting nominated instead of Glenn would be delicious.

Even Jane focused on her white guilt.

by Anonymousreply 359March 1, 2021 4:43 AM
Depressing movie about a old lady living in van.

Maggie Smith did it better.

by Anonymousreply 360March 1, 2021 4:45 AM

Omg ITS NOT WHITE GUILT TO WANT EQUALITY AND MORE GOOD ROLES FOR PEOPLE OF COLOR.

by Anonymousreply 361March 1, 2021 4:45 AM

GROW THE FUCK UP ALREADY WITH YOUR RACIST SHIT R359

I’m sick of you and your behavior all over this site. You need to go. Before I have to take care of it.

by Anonymousreply 362March 1, 2021 4:46 AM

Jodie is liked even by deplorables because they know her and grew up with her. She will get nominated now for sure. But the Borat girl is still gonna win

by Anonymousreply 363March 1, 2021 4:46 AM

Seyfried is a homewrecking slut. She should be a DL fave but she's not, people forget about her.

by Anonymousreply 364March 1, 2021 4:46 AM

Of course it’s white guilt. Jane could have produced diverse roles years ago.

by Anonymousreply 365March 1, 2021 4:47 AM
I thought Sarah Paulson should have won over Princess Diana but the foreign press votes on these awards.

R364 really, so how many married men had she slept with? lol

by Anonymousreply 367March 1, 2021 4:48 AM

The one she's married to currently. She used to follow him and his wife when they went on vacation.

by Anonymousreply 368March 1, 2021 4:52 AM

Andra Day is beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 369March 1, 2021 4:53 AM

My god is it 1988 again!?!

by Anonymousreply 373March 1, 2021 4:57 AM

So Andra shouldn't have hid it on tv when she won her award at the beginning and end. I know she was emotional, but actors are supposed to smile or at least cry with happiness at their audience.

Jodie is the rare actor deplorables accept. As mentioned before. They grew up with her

by Anonymousreply 376March 1, 2021 5:01 AM

R344 if Jodie was so beloved she would’ve been nominated at SAG. I’m not saying shes not respected and admired in the industry, I just don’t think she has the momentum to win. She’s not gonna pull even with Streep and Ingrid Bergman for a film no one has seen. They will just throw the Oscar bone to Glenn this year. She’s become the Lucci of the Oscars. That way everyone can say she finally got it on her eighth time at bat ala Geraldine Page and the Academy can feel they are done with her losing streak.

by Anonymousreply 377March 1, 2021 5:01 AM

I'm disheartened that the solution to a lack of black representation in positions of power in an industry is to give black actors undeserved awards and just pander.

by Anonymousreply 378March 1, 2021 5:02 AM

They just need to give Glenn Close an honorary Oscar. It would be nice in a time when we're reexamining how women are perceived. Alex Forest was such a landmark in that regard.

by Anonymousreply 379March 1, 2021 5:04 AM

Oscar voters aren’t going to forget the leaked photos of Amanda Siegfried sucking Justin Long’s cock.

by Anonymousreply 380March 1, 2021 5:05 AM

The thing with all these awards tis year is when people have even had the chance to see films. Im sure now Jodie will probably get nominated but I doubt she will win. The Minari grandma wasn't eligible for the Globes but she will be Oscar nominated

by Anonymousreply 381March 1, 2021 5:06 AM

The Foreign Press seems very taken with shows about royalty, odd since many of them were former colonies who overthrew despotic rulers?

by Anonymousreply 382March 1, 2021 5:06 AM
They will just throw the Oscar bone to Glenn this year. That way everyone can say she finally got it on her eighth time at bat ala Geraldine Page and the Academy can feel they are done with her losing streak.

And didn’t poor Geraldine die a year or two later?

by Anonymousreply 383March 1, 2021 5:07 AM

Man, Chris Meloni looked really hot and filled out his tux in all the right places. The guy just never seems to age, except for the hairline. Jane Fonda, at 83, continues to astonish. I read the pantsuit she wore was something she pulled from her closet. She is terrific in "Grace and Frankie," for those who haven't seen it. And her acceptance speech was the best of the night.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were just not funny. And why bother having co-hosts if they're not going to be on the same stage? The split scene stuff was awkward and off-putting. And speaking of awkward and off-putting, the bit with Kenan Thompson and Maya Rudolph wasn't at all funny. It looked like the two were pushed on stage without any sort of script. And Amy seemed annoyed at the overlong attempt at humor.

Okay, I get it. Jamie Lee Curtis has big breasts. But somehow they don't do her much good.

"The Crown" got more love from the HFPA and I think it was deserved. The newest season detailing the the horror show that was Charles and Diana's doomed marriage was one of the best in the series. And Gillian Anderson made a great Margaret Thatcher.

Once again, Jason Bateman was robbed.

I hope next year the GG will again have everyone in the same room and they'll all be sufficiently liquored up.

by Anonymousreply 384March 1, 2021 5:08 AM

More people probably saw Gillian play Mrs. Thatcher than that film you won the Oscar for, G!

by Anonymousreply 385March 1, 2021 5:09 AM

Not that she probably cares but did Fran McDormand fuck up her Oscar chances by not even showing up IN HER OWN HOME tonight to be a presence?? She could have even worn her sweats, for chrissakes.....

by Anonymousreply 386March 1, 2021 5:10 AM

I mean M -- at this point they are almost interchangeable!

by Anonymousreply 387March 1, 2021 5:10 AM

Awful, just awful. I can't imagine any heterosexual male sitting through 30 seconds of this dreck. I think gays will give up watching. So terrible.

by Anonymousreply 388March 1, 2021 5:14 AM

Anya Taylor Joy or whatever her name is -- she looked like a strung out drug addict. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 389March 1, 2021 5:18 AM
I'm disheartened that the solution to a lack of black representation in positions of power in an industry is to give black actors undeserved awards and just pander.

Enough already. Man up for once and admit that you can’t imagine any black actor ever turning in a performance that you’d deem award worthy. Admit that regardless of actor, role and film, regardless of the competition, and regardless of the actual quality of the performance, you will always, always attribute any black victory to your favorite word, pandering.

by Anonymousreply 390March 1, 2021 5:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 397March 1, 2021 5:24 AM

R390 I've seen it all, Chaplin to today, and I know pandering when I see it.

Look, I love Regina King. Can she become a great director? Absolutely, I'd be amazed if she doesn't do fantastic things. Is the movie she did this year good? No, it isn't. Apply that logic across the board. There needs to be more opportunities to make good work, not just doing the lazy bit of handing out awards to paper over bad press.

by Anonymousreply 398March 1, 2021 5:26 AM

Oh Yes! Ms Viloa Davis has spoken

by Anonymousreply 401March 1, 2021 5:26 AM

There doesn't seem to be any passion behind anyone or any movie this year. Very odd. Are they really going to give Chadwick Boseman awards for that performance? If he were alive, I'm not even sure he'd be nominated.

by Anonymousreply 406March 1, 2021 5:32 AM

Jodie Foster will be nominated but she will not win. Though I bet she is in the running more than those lesser actresses. If the Borat girl doesn't win. Jodie is next in line.

by Anonymousreply 407March 1, 2021 5:33 AM

The grandmother of Minari should win

by Anonymousreply 408March 1, 2021 5:35 AM

Frances taking a shit in that movie was disgusting. What’s with Hollywood’s Scat obsession in the last 5-7 years?

by Anonymousreply 409March 1, 2021 5:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 414March 1, 2021 5:44 AM

Just found out about Day’s win and I am thrilled. I wrote this about her work yesterday in the Oscars thread:
Andra Day should be nominated for her hauntingly fierce, transfixing, and transcendent performance as Billie Holiday. She shoots, penetrates, and burns like a red-hot laser and manages to save an unfocused and, at times, fickle film, providing and grounding it with an aching heart and soul.

Now, I hope she fucking wins Oscah! She is [bold]BRILLIANT[/bold] in the film. I haven’t been this enthralled with a performance in years.

by Anonymousreply 415March 1, 2021 5:45 AM

Yeah, critics have been harsh about the film but not her performance, which most praise

by Anonymousreply 416March 1, 2021 5:46 AM

R414, She and Whoopi were the only ones who supported Mel Gibson after his tirade.

by Anonymousreply 417March 1, 2021 5:46 AM

[...]

by Anonymousreply 418March 1, 2021 5:47 AM

R417, so what? nobody's perfect.

by Anonymousreply 419March 1, 2021 5:48 AM

R416 The film, though somewhat unfocused, is not as bad as the critics lead one to believe. Then again, I think Day’s work is so strong, it totally transcends any limitations. She’s sublime and her singing was eerily accurate and exquisite.

by Anonymousreply 420March 1, 2021 5:49 AM

Mel Gibson is one her dearest friends. That should have nothing to do with her work. Most people love Jodie Foster. Jamie Lee Curtis even called her a bestie.

Also, The Father is going to have a tough go of it. hard to get enough voters to watch that movie for Hopkins to win. If he loses, and we will see soon enough, it may be because Oscar voters have too many viewing options these days and The Father can't compete with Brigerton and the thousand other shows out there. Would seem Pike, Andra Day and Foster are the three biggest shocks of the night. Sorry for Bakalova who really deserved the globe

by Anonymousreply 467March 1, 2021 8:26 AM

Jodie has been through a lot. A long time in showbusiness. She's mellowed with age. And she probably always had to be somewhat more serious or she wouldn't be taken seriously, as a child and as a young woman. It's very easy to become complacent when you have success so early. She kept herself together. Good for her!

by Anonymousreply 472March 1, 2021 8:51 AM

What will Carey and Viola, desperate to win the Oscar, stoop to now in their campaigning after losing the Globe to Day? Has Carey talked about her own #metoo incidents yet for publicity? R471. We have Donald Trump to thank for lying about the disease a YEAR ago, all the while mocking people who took precautions, and then PERSONALLY SPREADING THE DISEASE to his administration, his followers, the Secret Service, and his family. With half a million Americans dead and FINALLY getting some kind of vaccine rolling out, it was a tough show to even attempt. Maybe by next year we won't have to live in fear of slow, infectious death.

by Anonymousreply 476March 1, 2021 9:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 490March 1, 2021 2:09 PM

Yikes, lots of bitter cunts on this thread.

I guess I don't understand why said cunts care so much about black folk winning. Does your day-to-day life suck so hard that you take it so personally??

It's crazy when you think that in 77 years, only around 50 black people have won a GG.

by Anonymousreply 491March 1, 2021 2:15 PM

From Variety:

Even if we stipulate, as COVID-era common sense dictates, that the show necessarily had to be conducted remotely, its remoteness from other sorts of common sense was inexplicable. The only possible explanation is that, seeking the sense of chaos lent by serendipitous meetings of stars in the Beverly Hilton ballroom, the show sought to wring as much possible awkwardness as it could from putting all the nominees in a category onscreen and having the hosts tap out. It was an evening defined by sourness and a sense of obligation on all sides: A thing that was being done because everyone knew it was what was done every year, even as the news insisted on the show’s irrelevance and the production seemed to resist being put on. But what viewers who walked away after three hours feeling as if they just got out of a contentious work meeting with some very unpleasant coworkers may think to themselves is: Maybe it doesn’t need to

Mark Ruffalo’s acceptance speech may have permanently wilted the hardon I had for him for years. I’d pay money to have read Hugh Grant’s thoughts in the moment.

by Anonymousreply 495March 1, 2021 3:03 PM

Yes. There have only been like 50 black winners over the course of 77 years.

How people are upset black people are being acknowledged now is ridiculous.

Well, by people, I mean one psycho loon

by Anonymousreply 496March 1, 2021 3:09 PM

Can’t believe Nomadland won.

It is excruciatingly boring. Frances McDormand drifts around doing menial labor while living in her camper. The end.

Full of non-actors that make this pretentious garbage even worse.

Even David Strathairn couldn’t save this mess.

by Anonymousreply 497March 1, 2021 3:59 PM

Is Jodie liberal? I don't know anything about her politics.

by Anonymousreply 500March 1, 2021 4:15 PM

Jodie is liberal and occasionally speaks out on issues, but as you'd expect from her, it's infrequent. Some people think she might be conservative because of her friendship with Mel Gibson, but it's probably just a common case where longtime friends maintain a relationship by avoiding politics altogether.

R497 is white guilt cinema to the max. Notice how since the late 90s white images on screen have become so gritty. We’ve got Frances shitting in buckets and Ellen Burtyn strung out on Meth pills, while all the black characters are living high on the hog like Goldie Hawn in First Wives Club. We no longer make aspirational lifestyle movies for whites.

by Anonymousreply 502March 1, 2021 4:28 PM

Sorry, but I'm fucking sick of all of this racial and gender shit. This is one of the main reasons why viewership for these shows has gone down precipitously. They eventually become platforms for female empowerment or lack of diversity ( read " not enough blacks").

by Anonymousreply 503March 1, 2021 4:32 PM

Any info on Jodie's wife? She looks so familiar....

And was Rosamund Pike already publicly out before last night?

And di anyone else notice how bloated and ruddy Kurt Russell looked last night sitting among Kate Hudson's family? Goldie's was in the background with heavier bangs than usual, unready for her closeup. Well, after all these years, Kurt and Goldie have earned their home comforts.

The wife she thanked was her "I Care A Lot" wife Eiza Gonzalez.

As someone who is a third-generation participant in the movie business in LA, I think everyone should know that these "awards" are considered the biggest joke in town. The annual bash at the Beverly Hilton used to be considered more fun than the Oscars because it was a chance to party, get plastered, and be subject to less public scrutiny than at the Oscar awards. It's well-known that many members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association can be bought, sometimes with just an invitation to a party or screening. Most of the so-called "correspondents" have so little work in "reporting" film news to their media employers that they have to actually support themselves with full-time jobs in other occupations. It's a cliche in these parts to say, "On the night the Golden Globe Awards are given, you can't find a decent waiter in LA."

by Anonymousreply 530March 1, 2021 8:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 531March 1, 2021 8:13 PM

R530 everyone, especially on DL, know the HFPA is a joke. But they do set the pace for the awards season. There is a very high overlap since 1943 (globes first year) of globe winners translating to Oscar wins. So they are important to the studios. I couldn’t help but laugh last night when the HFPA prez and the other two made that perfunctory statement of including blacks in the membership in the future . You know they just hate to share the studio perks with any new members. It’s outrageous in 021 that there are still only 90 members. They still have the asinine rule of ANY member rejecting any new potential member. If they made a drive to include serious film critics and journalists into the fold it would give them a lot more credibility but it’ll never happen.

by Anonymousreply 532March 1, 2021 8:31 PM

Fonda is the biggest fake there is. And she fools the eldergays every time. Jodie is a true iconoclast and intellectual. She may not hate Fonda, but any intelligent person knows that nothing Jane Fonda has ever done in her life has any meaning at all. She's trying to please men and get attention. And look good. She's thoughtful, but dumb. And she LIES all the damn time. Jane takes up the cause of the man OR the moment. Sometimes both. For 60 fucking years. Go away with your fake arrests and fake.....everything.

Jane is 83, but her vagina is only 12. Her ass has a few more miles on it.

by Anonymousreply 565March 2, 2021 12:26 AM

Then look at the death stare that Jodie gives her at the 2:50 mark. She looks like she's putting a gypsy curse on her. And her wife is not impressed with Jane again.

Something really bad happened and I wish I knew what it was.

R565 I’m not against lezs. Live and let live. Jane quit the business for 15 years, so it wasn’t all for show then or now. She’s not a fame and media whore. She does what she wants and takes care of business. I think she’s incredible for 84. Did you see her ovation at the Oscars last year? The audience knew what was up.

by Anonymousreply 569March 2, 2021 12:34 AM

Ha, that's rich. Jane Fonda is kind of late to the civil rights movement. It's her cause of the day. Because it is THE cause of the day. But guess what, there was an actual civil rights movement and Jane Fonda was talking lockjaw instead. She gave a Black Panther salute in the 70s to try to gain some support with her other problems. Jane Fonda has nothing to do with black people outside of show business and she never has. She has NEVER been interested in any cause but her own. A most gullible and narcissistic old whore. Desperately seeking the approval of men. Especially ones who could further her career, her agenda or her lifestyle. Fake plastic sow. She has good genetics, nice surgery and avoids FOOD. Just what the eldergays wish they had in a mommy. Now that she's ancient, she flirts with women too.

Lots of white women of stature participated in the civil rights movement. Not Fonda. Jane fancies herself a revolutionary. She participates SAFELY in whatever makes her feel like a bad girl that day. Then takes a helicopter home. The word you're looking for is DILETTANTE.

by Anonymousreply 576March 2, 2021 1:07 AM

Many people dislike Jane Fonda. The real world is not a Hollywood award show. Many people in those award audiences know exactly who Fonda is too - no matter their political persuasion. They know it in their gut. You won't catch Sarandon or Cher or Lange or Deborah Winger or even Sandra Bullock clapping too hard for Jane Fonda. Streep will and Julia Roberts - because they don't want to be too closely examined either. And it's fun to dress up and win things!! Live for the Applause.

Fonda is a fake feminist and a fake activist. Ted Danson or Martin Sheen has to hold her hand when she goes to "prison." 🤣🤣🤣 It will always be a man with her. Or a native elder woman. Trust that.

Fonda has never criticized her own industry. NEVER. She shows up for every prestige slot of every good event. She collects her awards then makes a passionate voice quavering speech in sign language. Even when she is at WAR with her own country. Or she'll play a handmade mouth harp for you and say how we must fight for the preservation of _______ people! NOW. She loves to give out the final award of the night so people will remember her incredible figure and wig. Fonda always sucked the dick of Hollywood. She's well spoken and was once or twice a bracing actress. So they applaud her. Same as SHE applauded Bob Hope and Polanski and Jack Lemmon and Jon Voight and whatever Nazi she was fucking at the time. She's a fucking fraud. You don't have to research her to know. Just be of similar or greater intelligence. It's not that hard.

Of course Jodie Foster has ner number. To love Jane Fonda involves some self hate if you're a woman in Hollywood. Jane discovered #MeToo. Too. Yes she did. Just last year!

She never knew that fucking men for work or cash was a bad thing before or that some other women suffered harassment!!! Jane got right activated, right away. In TV interviews!!

Responding to the Anti-Fonda neurosis further upthread: you are bitter or high or both.

Fonda, with lapses of judgement and shaky strategies, often listening to bad advice, has been authentically dedicated to peace, justice and environmental issues for over 50 years.

She is also a star in a way no one is, anymore. Was she a great actress? Define great. Was Jeanne Moreau a great actress? Does it matter? Did both Moreau and Fonda light up a screen, demand attention, and touch you with the power of their cinematic Presence. Yep.

What a strangely emotional response R591. There is no such thing as anti fonda neurosis. That's invented terminology. I see a public figure clearly. We've both been exposed to the same facade. You're free to worship her, or question her value and sincerity. Don't matter to me. There is an onslaught of stupidity that infects old white gay men. Some y'all worship certain women for reasons that appear juvenile and shallow. A little neurotic tbh.

Fonda doesn't appear to be in much danger in that silly photo R591. What is that tieing her hands? A shoelace. She's had far more violent acts done to her with her consent. She's a ridiculous woman. She doesn't get a pass because she is over 80 years old. She's always been a ridiculous woman. Do you think Jane Fonda ever spent a moment of fear in her LONG life that she would end up in jail or prison R591? She's a fucking white privileged limousine liberal dilettante. With a case of lockjaw. I don't think they can award her any further. 🙏🏾

You sound like it's hard to get the noodle through. Sorry bout that Pa.

R590 Retard, don’t bring me into your shit. Your kind of crazy is enough to witness from the sidelines.

"tieing" means to achieve a tie... an impasse. And it's a zip tie.... which is what law enforcement uses when arresting large numbers of people. I fear you may not have strayed out of your media bubble much.

Sorry about that, Junior.

This is my 3rd post on this thread r590. I also posted at r587 and r589. You are paranoid and a nut case. Get help.

Ha, some ancient white fag will not lecture me on the use of zip ties. I'm a black man with more muscle than you can imagine gramps. What a sad, slight old man you are R594. Don't call me junior. EVER. An impasse? You've never been close.

Fonda looks very pleased with herself in her loose tie and zipper FACE. Who knew the old hag had so many fags? Tom Hayden gave Jane several varieties of warts and STIs, left her with a big bill, no uterus and three dead sets of tit implants. Nice for you to live down the street. When will you all die?

I wonder how the ratings would have fared with a Ricky Gervais-hosted virtual GG's.

Oh, wait.

This means I hate women.

by Anonymousreply 597March 2, 2021 3:46 AM

R596 You sound nice.

by Anonymousreply 598March 2, 2021 3:51 AM

The Fonda-Lange-Streep Hater apparently hates Sigourney Weaver, too.

Like, who actively dislikes Siggy? Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 599March 2, 2021 3:53 AM

On to the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 600March 2, 2021 3:55 AM

The troll claims to be black but types like the pudgy Caucasian retard who runs around here pretending to be Viola Davis. Black my ass.
