These two overrated has beens hosting? No thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 22, 2021 3:43 AM |
r6 He and his film didn't even get nominated. He must be so mad that his kids agreed to be the guides or whatever they now call what used to be Miss Golden Globes.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 22, 2021 6:19 AM |
Golden Globes Ambassadors.
Spike's son joins the short list of male Golden Globes Ambassadors - Pierce Brosnan's two sons, Michael J. Fox's son, Lorenzo Lamas' son, Clark Gable's son and Freddie Prinze Jr.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 22, 2021 6:34 AM |
Spike's daughter is quite pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 22, 2021 7:04 AM |
Nepotism anyone?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 22, 2021 7:13 AM |
r11 that is the whole idea of Miss Golden Globes/Ambassadors. They are all second generation "actors,"
Pretty rare that any of them actually get a career though.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 22, 2021 7:18 AM |
Since so many of the nominees will be home for this, does that mean they'll be more buzzed than usual for the globes?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 28, 2021 7:29 AM |
Who will be presenting
Hole.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 28, 2021 7:47 AM |
Sounds awkward and boring. It needs Ricky Gervais. And is there much interest in the nominated films and performances? Like the Super Bowl, I predict low viewership.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 28, 2021 8:02 AM |
A bicoastal ceremony, R13??? Oh my Lord, my pastor warned me about them bicoastal people. Their livin' there lives in sin, not obeyin' the rules laid out in the Bible. God made Charleston and Charlotte, not Charleston and San Francisco. Help them, Jesus!
Now if you'll excuse me I gots ta pick up Ashneigh, Teafanny, Madysynn, K-Leigh and Palyn from pole dancing practice. My girls are gonna be awesome cheerleaders!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 28, 2021 8:13 AM |
Who will win Best Actress in a comedy?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 28, 2021 8:56 AM |
R17 Anybody but Rosamund Pike is fine with me.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 28, 2021 9:03 AM |
Why not Pikey?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 28, 2021 9:05 AM |
R19 Her performance is one note. I generally like her but hated her and more so the film so much.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 28, 2021 9:08 AM |
I cannot stand Tina and Amy, neither are funny
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 28, 2021 11:43 AM |
This Boston U film student is livestreaming his predictions and reactions. Damn, he’s cute.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 28, 2021 11:44 PM |
Is this also the thread for the shitty virtual red carpet?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 28, 2021 11:47 PM |
Bob “Better Call Saul” Odenkirk just dissed my tv husband Jason Bateman by fawning over his other fellow nominees and completely ignoring JB. Hope that means JB wins even if these awards are a joke.
In other news, Ghouliana is wearing a ratty weave and a reject from the Showgirls costume vault.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 28, 2021 11:50 PM |
R15, I doubt that. I think the ratings will be big. There’s a huge demand for shit like this after what we’ve been through.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 28, 2021 11:52 PM |
The BU kid is swearing up and down that Boseman is sweeping tonight and winning Best Actor at the Oscars. He admits he hasn’t seen The Father yet. I have and there’s no fucking way Hopkins loses over Boseman.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 28, 2021 11:55 PM |
Karamo.
Ewww.

I love Jane Lynch hosting!

The black hostess is from “This is Us.” She’s a strong actress. But is she pregnant or just fat in the belly?

by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 1, 2021 12:25 AM |
I’ve loved the deft takedowns that Fey and Poehler have handed the Hollywood elite at previous GGs. I’m ready again for some more.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 1, 2021 12:31 AM |
R33 = DJT
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 1, 2021 12:34 AM |

Now watch, the fucking twats will start posting in THAT thread.
Thanks for starting this OP.

Enough for you to comment r36
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 1, 2021 12:40 AM |

Tina and Amy are lame I knew they would be.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 1, 2021 1:10 AM |
Ugh that nepotist cunt Laura Dern.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 1, 2021 1:10 AM |
OK, get to getting on the commentary please. I am relying on you witty bitches for my entertainment tonight as the TV is WAY too far away (next room) and I finally got comfortable, which at my age is a big fucking process.
Just you wait you little whippersnappers.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 1, 2021 1:10 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 1, 2021 1:11 AM |
Jared Leto looks like he doesn’t even wanna be there
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 1, 2021 1:12 AM |
Daniel definitely deserved his win!!! The performance was brilliant...as in one of the best I've seen in years.
PS: People should go back and watch Amy and Tina's previous GG opening monologues...they were brilliant. Tonight's sucked.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 1, 2021 1:13 AM |
Did they all change their votes to the blacks after the backlash? And why is everyone British???
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 1, 2021 1:15 AM |
It's a mess
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 1, 2021 1:16 AM |
I guess the NYT article where they said that if black nominees didn’t win, they’d be hell to pay had an effect.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 1, 2021 1:16 AM |
Turned away from the Jamaica guy with marbles in his mouth to "Theater of Blood" I recorded earlier. Diana Rigg and Vincent Price having a ball hamming it up.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 1, 2021 1:17 AM |
I’m sure John Boyega’s speech was wise and gracious but I only understood about five words.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 1, 2021 1:17 AM |
What the fuck is he saying???
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 1, 2021 1:17 AM |
The Father? Never heard of it. What a strange show.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 1, 2021 1:19 AM |
Stella got her groove back in that purple gown. She looks amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 1, 2021 1:19 AM |
I guess the NYT article where they said that if black nominees didn’t win, they’d be hell to pay had an effect.
And I guess this wouldn't be a Datalounge Award Show thread without someone eternally bitching about so many non-white winners.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 1, 2021 1:20 AM |
Kaluuya just killed his Oscar chances with that awful, unintelligible, self serving speech.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 1, 2021 1:20 AM |
R65 i don't know what the fuck that was. But he made an ass of himself
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 1, 2021 1:22 AM |
It really is sad. I hate it when awards shows pander, but so far the best performances in their categories have won. Regardless, some bitter old white queens can't resist diminishing the talents of black men. Yikes.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 1, 2021 1:22 AM |
I can’t stand these zoom awards. It’s uncomfortable to watch. See ya next year
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 1, 2021 1:23 AM |
Turn off the fucking phone. WTF
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 1, 2021 1:23 AM |
Ugh Canadians
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 1, 2021 1:24 AM |
This show is a disaster!
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 1, 2021 1:24 AM |
R69, I think it was a bit. She was being played off.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 1, 2021 1:24 AM |
Daniel was brilliant in Judas. The Oscar voters won’t care about his accent.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 1, 2021 1:24 AM |
WTF was with the phone. Was that a gag or for real?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 1, 2021 1:24 AM |
What, Tiffiny Haddish still isn't over after her horrific performance in Good Times Live?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 1, 2021 1:25 AM |
I can't stand Tiffany Haddish...she's just way too much.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 1, 2021 1:26 AM |
Did they really think people were going to watch this shitshow?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 1, 2021 1:26 AM |
Wolf Walkers deserved the award.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 1, 2021 1:26 AM |

White people -- commence with the exploding heads!
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 1, 2021 1:29 AM |
R73 I found the film slight.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 1, 2021 1:29 AM |
We're sorry. So sorry. Here are some awards for you. Will that make it better?
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 1, 2021 1:29 AM |
It is what it is guys. Things should be back to normal on the next Globes in 022. Tina and Amy are pretty lame, but it’s better than just announcing the winners via press release.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 1, 2021 1:31 AM |
James Corden will be Zooming in from the toilet.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | March 1, 2021 1:32 AM |
I guess I have to watch Mank again to see if it's really that great. 20 minutes into it I had sufficient of Gary Oldman.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | March 1, 2021 1:35 AM |
What? Hugh was robbed!
by Anonymous | reply 87 | March 1, 2021 1:35 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 88 | March 1, 2021 1:35 AM |
During speeches, the photobombing is getting obnoxious.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | March 1, 2021 1:36 AM |
Ruff also was really good but man, that miniseries was a slog.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | March 1, 2021 1:36 AM |
Mark Ruffalo is annoying
by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 1, 2021 1:36 AM |
It appears Ruffalo is sitting on a toilet.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | March 1, 2021 1:37 AM |
I can’t wait to see Cynthia Erivo as Aretha.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | March 1, 2021 1:38 AM |
Cynthia Erivo looks like an Oompa Loompa.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | March 1, 2021 1:38 AM |
Mark Ruffalo is undeniably talented, but he seems so insufferable in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | March 1, 2021 1:38 AM |
I’m not sure about that lurid green dress.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | March 1, 2021 1:39 AM |
I guess I have to watch Mank again to see if it's really that great. 20 minutes into it I had sufficient of Gary Oldman.
I watched to the end. The only part I enjoyed was the guy imitating Orson Welles. But not so entertaining as to have been worth the film's running time. Or some award.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | March 1, 2021 1:40 AM |
Mark Ruffalo is such a blowhard
by Anonymous | reply 99 | March 1, 2021 1:41 AM |
Shit show.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | March 1, 2021 1:41 AM |
Mank was atrocious
by Anonymous | reply 101 | March 1, 2021 1:41 AM |
This comedy routine with Maya and Kenan is awful.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | March 1, 2021 1:42 AM |
Ugh...why did I know Fey and Poehler would shoehorn Maya Rudolph in here somewhere?
by Anonymous | reply 103 | March 1, 2021 1:42 AM |
This is painful.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | March 1, 2021 1:43 AM |
R87 all wonderful actors in that category, but Mark was amazing in the dual roles and he deserves every award for it.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | March 1, 2021 1:43 AM |
Ugh, the part of an awards show nobody ever asks for, but we're guaranteed to always get: Maya Rudolph and a fellow SNL alum in an overly long "comedy" routine.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | March 1, 2021 1:44 AM |
I knew the Maya troll would be here to trash her
by Anonymous | reply 107 | March 1, 2021 1:44 AM |
Mark Ruffalo was truly brilliant in his role, but the show itself was a bore.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | March 1, 2021 1:45 AM |
Horrible. I just switched to RHOA ,
by Anonymous | reply 109 | March 1, 2021 1:45 AM |
Mank's cinematography was beautiful...
by Anonymous | reply 110 | March 1, 2021 1:46 AM |
R107, I'm an unabashed Maya troll and without fail, several people beat me to the punch with far bitchier comments. Maybe she's not as beloved as you seem to think?
by Anonymous | reply 111 | March 1, 2021 1:46 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 113 | March 1, 2021 1:48 AM |
I'm switching to Stanley Tucci at 9:00.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | March 1, 2021 1:49 AM |
I can't stand James Corden. I just wanted to say that.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | March 1, 2021 1:51 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 118 | March 1, 2021 1:52 AM |
Is Spike Lee's son gay ?
by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 1, 2021 1:53 AM |
Spike Lee's daughter and Woody Allen's son both named after Satchel Paige

I renamed myself after Ronan Keating.

Was Bonnie Franklin ignored in the Norman Lear tribute?
by Anonymous | reply 123 | March 1, 2021 1:56 AM |
Why was Norman Lear making that tribute to Carol Burnett?
by Anonymous | reply 124 | March 1, 2021 1:57 AM |
Until everyone can attend awards shows, I'm out. It's no fun if I can't gawk at what people are wearing.

Why not? We give Oscars to women just because they’re hot pretty much yearly.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | March 1, 2021 1:58 AM |
Was Bonnie Franklin ignored in the Norman Lear tribute?
No, there was a clip of her.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | March 1, 2021 2:00 AM |
I’m hoping Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor win. After their categories I’m done with this shitshow.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | March 1, 2021 2:01 AM |
Was Norman eulogizing himself? He's only 99.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | March 1, 2021 2:02 AM |
R124 are you serious? The award is named after Burnett.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | March 1, 2021 2:02 AM |
Did anyone like Nomadland?
by Anonymous | reply 131 | March 1, 2021 2:06 AM |
Bonnie Franklin was included in the Lear tribute.
Geez, I would have thought Hayek’s English wouldn’t be at Melania level now.

Kevin needs to tighten his tie. He looks like a slob.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | March 1, 2021 2:07 AM |
Nomadland is a pretentious piece of shit.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 1, 2021 2:07 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 1, 2021 2:07 AM |
R131, it was my favorite film of the year.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | March 1, 2021 2:07 AM |
Look for Emma Corrin to win the SAG Award, too. I’m voting for her.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | March 1, 2021 2:09 AM |
Over Laura Linney, R136? I think not.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | March 1, 2021 2:09 AM |
Diane Warren paid for that award.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | March 1, 2021 2:10 AM |

Nicholas Hoult is so pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | March 1, 2021 2:13 AM |
That last batch seemed to be, R144.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | March 1, 2021 2:14 AM |
Emma Corrin has a good shot of winning the Emmy. She showed so much range over the course of the season, going from a quietly scheming ingenue to a bitter superstar.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 1, 2021 2:14 AM |
R144, so far the acting trophies seem to be live. However, the Original Song and Original Score winners were pre-taped!
by Anonymous | reply 149 | March 1, 2021 2:14 AM |
Who on earth thinks that anyone wants to watch allegedly witty repartee on Zoom? Last spring, maybe. But now? Just excruciating.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | March 1, 2021 2:14 AM |
I loved hearing Tina Fey's laugh loudly ring out when Tracy Morgan mispronounced "Soul."

Nicolas Hoult looked gorgeous. I’m not a fan of his at all, he is stiff and boring and overrated in looks usually, but tonight he looked striking.
The show is stupid but I am entertained.
No one is giving black people awards just for being black. Stop the racist shit stalker troll. Seriously. How many black people won vs white tonight? Enough.

It’s weird that Sean is vain enough to dye his hair when he gave up on his face decades ago.

Chadwick Bozeman was a great actor, but his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was supporting, and it wasn’t better than Daniel Kaluuya’s. Hopefully at the Oscars, Steven Yeun takes the 5th spot.

Trumpeter, not Trumper, R266. Plus he's dead, so life already canceled him.

I'm betting on Steve Yuen.
by Anonymous | reply 272 | March 1, 2021 3:44 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 308 | March 1, 2021 4:02 AM |
Carey's movie sounded just too annoyingly woke and p.c. for me: "#MeToo, the Motion Picture."
This blunts her momentum, and suggests the Oscar winner will more likely be Frances McDormand (who was winning all the critics's prizes before the Mulligan swell began.)
by Anonymous | reply 309 | March 1, 2021 4:02 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 316 | March 1, 2021 4:04 AM |
I don’t think Andra Day deserves an Oscar, but Renee Zellweger ruined the argument against such a thing happening with her win last year. Judy was horrible and Renee was just okay...yet she won Best Actress.

The chick who played Diana in The Crown??? WTF? She was a terrible bore!
by Anonymous | reply 318 | March 1, 2021 4:06 AM |
Paramount is the studio that took the HFPA members to Paris (for Emily in Paris). Since they got caught taking bribes for that, I'm guessing they decided to reward Paramount elsewhere -- guess who produced The United States versus Billie Holiday?
lol

Is Nomadland any less boring than The Rider was?
by Anonymous | reply 322 | March 1, 2021 4:11 AM |
Because of COVID, this is the year that anything goes. The Oscar nominees list will look different that tonight's, and will also have wild card wins and upsets. It's that kind of year.
Look for the boring predictability to return next year, with a beginning to return to post-COVID normalcy.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | March 1, 2021 4:13 AM |
R292 Tomei has been nominated twice since her win. Fail.
R312 Days Oscar nomination chances just got a huge boost. I think Mulligan will prevail for the Oscar. McDormand still might win a third if she wins for producing Nomadland.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | March 1, 2021 4:15 AM |
They gave about as many awards to black actors and actresses as they could so as to make up for the nominations controversy, and that is completely why Andra Day won.
Unless the Oscars nominations are similarly criticized, they will likely not do the same thing with Best Actress.

Foster and Hopkins will likely present together at the oscars for silence of the lambs 30th anniversary. If I was producing the show I'd try to make it happen. Good story for them both to win again.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | March 1, 2021 4:23 AM |
Jodie Foster is not winning an Oscar. Amanda Seyfried is still the front runner. As noted above, the HFPA loved Jodie...she’s received 11 nominations, 3 wins, and the Cecil B DeMille Award.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | March 1, 2021 4:24 AM |
The same Amanda Seyfried that was snubbed by SAG r336? And in a movie that was just shut out at the Globes and seems to have no passion behind it? That Amanda Seyfried?
by Anonymous | reply 337 | March 1, 2021 4:27 AM |
Andra Day's award was bought and paid for by the studio. There's been a heavily promoted(paid) Tweet all day on Twitter for the movie, which indicates that they knew Andra was going to win. Her win was not legitimate.

Well I hope this was the death rattle for Amy & Tina hosting anymore shows, these overrated gasbags need to move into obscurity.
by Anonymous | reply 341 | March 1, 2021 4:29 AM |
Is that the first time Jodie was seen cozy with her wife on tv? I bet John Hinckley is having a crazy fit, if he didn't know she was gay.
Sacha beat out Lin-Manuel 2 times in a row, but "Borat" was actually a movie, and Mr. Cohen is actually a really good actor.
Haven't seen Jason Sudeikis' show, but can a lousy, prolonged speech and not seeming grateful enough screw you out of other awards? Don Cheadle kept moving his hands to finish up, which Sudeikis made a little less embarrassing by at least acknowledging.
Who were the two unfunny broads handing out the Best Comedy and Musical?
by Anonymous | reply 342 | March 1, 2021 4:30 AM |
With this increasing "political correctness" in the US, I think more and more people especially the filmmakers will take winning the top prizes at Cannes, BAFTA, Venice, Berlin... more seriously than Golden Globe and Oscar, and I don't think I am alone on this.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | March 1, 2021 4:31 AM |
Don't underestimate Jodie Foster's Oscar chances. She's been in the industry for 50 years and has many friends who love and respect her. I would say that she's now the frontrunner in the Supporting Actress category.
by Anonymous | reply 344 | March 1, 2021 4:32 AM |
I think Jodie now has a slot. But most of those nominees are lackluster. The grandmother in Minari is the only deserving winner

Golden Globes is only voted on by like 90 people! It's usually known for being a fun ceremony to attend, since they normally are at table with free-flowing liquor (and I guess food, too). Plus folks in show biz love to honor themselves, so since famous people are involved, they've blown up its importance -- at least the Oscars and SAG Awards have people in the business who presumably know quality-- though of course that, like any awards show, has its biases anyway. Being a Golden Globe nominee or winner is something else the press can write about you in your publicity or obituary.
by Anonymous | reply 348 | March 1, 2021 4:36 AM |
Sooooooo BAD!!! I muted the program after the monologue. NO IMPRESSED. not even funny.

by Anonymous | reply 350 | March 1, 2021 4:37 AM |
Amanda Seyfried's Oscar chances died when she couldn't even get into SAG in this weak-ass year and being the biggest female name in a Fincher film.
She couldn't even get a consolation Globe tonight. She's toast.
by Anonymous | reply 351 | March 1, 2021 4:38 AM |
R347 Jodie was a young girl on shows like "Courtship of Eddie's Father" in the late 60s and before that had been the model for the little girl whose bikini bottom was whisked away by a little dog in Coppertone ads in the mid-60s.

DEAR. GOD. Gillian Anderson winning for that atrocious bit of acting in The Crown is down right criminal. She was terrible as Thatcher!

by Anonymous | reply 354 | March 1, 2021 4:41 AM |
Jodie winning Supporting is starting to make more sense. She hasn't won an Oscar since the early 90s. No one really cares about Supporting Oscars anyway. In the old days, winners wouldn't even get a statuette -- they'd get a plaque. It's the less-than Oscar.
Glenn is not winning for that atrocious movie. Seyfried might even miss getting a nomination at this point. Maria from the Borat movie will be in Supporting this time, as will the grandma from Minari.
by Anonymous | reply 355 | March 1, 2021 4:42 AM |

R348 that's a thing of the past, quality or not, the award shows like Oscar now is required to preempt 30% nomination slots for the black.

R344 if Jodie was so beloved she would’ve been nominated at SAG. I’m not saying shes not respected and admired in the industry, I just don’t think she has the momentum to win. She’s not gonna pull even with Streep and Ingrid Bergman for a film no one has seen. They will just throw the Oscar bone to Glenn this year. She’s become the Lucci of the Oscars. That way everyone can say she finally got it on her eighth time at bat ala Geraldine Page and the Academy can feel they are done with her losing streak.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | March 1, 2021 5:01 AM |
I'm disheartened that the solution to a lack of black representation in positions of power in an industry is to give black actors undeserved awards and just pander.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | March 1, 2021 5:02 AM |
They just need to give Glenn Close an honorary Oscar. It would be nice in a time when we're reexamining how women are perceived. Alex Forest was such a landmark in that regard.
by Anonymous | reply 379 | March 1, 2021 5:04 AM |

The thing with all these awards tis year is when people have even had the chance to see films. Im sure now Jodie will probably get nominated but I doubt she will win. The Minari grandma wasn't eligible for the Globes but she will be Oscar nominated
They will just throw the Oscar bone to Glenn this year. That way everyone can say she finally got it on her eighth time at bat ala Geraldine Page and the Academy can feel they are done with her losing streak.

Man, Chris Meloni looked really hot and filled out his tux in all the right places. The guy just never seems to age, except for the hairline. Jane Fonda, at 83, continues to astonish. I read the pantsuit she wore was something she pulled from her closet. She is terrific in "Grace and Frankie," for those who haven't seen it. And her acceptance speech was the best of the night.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were just not funny. And why bother having co-hosts if they're not going to be on the same stage? The split scene stuff was awkward and off-putting. And speaking of awkward and off-putting, the bit with Kenan Thompson and Maya Rudolph wasn't at all funny. It looked like the two were pushed on stage without any sort of script. And Amy seemed annoyed at the overlong attempt at humor.
Okay, I get it. Jamie Lee Curtis has big breasts. But somehow they don't do her much good.
"The Crown" got more love from the HFPA and I think it was deserved. The newest season detailing the the horror show that was Charles and Diana's doomed marriage was one of the best in the series. And Gillian Anderson made a great Margaret Thatcher.
Once again, Jason Bateman was robbed.
I hope next year the GG will again have everyone in the same room and they'll all be sufficiently liquored up.
by Anonymous | reply 384 | March 1, 2021 5:08 AM |
More people probably saw Gillian play Mrs. Thatcher than that film you won the Oscar for, G!
by Anonymous | reply 385 | March 1, 2021 5:09 AM |

Enough already. Man up for once and admit that you can’t imagine any black actor ever turning in a performance that you’d deem award worthy. Admit that regardless of actor, role and film, regardless of the competition, and regardless of the actual quality of the performance, you will always, always attribute any black victory to your favorite word, pandering.

Look, I love Regina King. Can she become a great director? Absolutely, I'd be amazed if she doesn't do fantastic things. Is the movie she did this year good? No, it isn't. Apply that logic across the board. There needs to be more opportunities to make good work, not just doing the lazy bit of handing out awards to paper over bad press.

Just found out about Day’s win and I am thrilled. I wrote this about her work yesterday in the Oscars thread:
Andra Day should be nominated for her hauntingly fierce, transfixing, and transcendent performance as Billie Holiday. She shoots, penetrates, and burns like a red-hot laser and manages to save an unfocused and, at times, fickle film, providing and grounding it with an aching heart and soul.
Now, I hope she fucking wins Oscah! She is [bold]BRILLIANT[/bold] in the film. I haven’t been this enthralled with a performance in years.

R416 The film, though somewhat unfocused, is not as bad as the critics lead one to believe. Then again, I think Day’s work is so strong, it totally transcends any limitations. She’s sublime and her singing was eerily accurate and exquisite.

Also, The Father is going to have a tough go of it. hard to get enough voters to watch that movie for Hopkins to win. If he loses, and we will see soon enough, it may be because Oscar voters have too many viewing options these days and The Father can't compete with Brigerton and the thousand other shows out there. Jodie has been through a lot. A long time in showbusiness. She's mellowed with age. She kept herself together. Good for her!

What will Carey and Viola, desperate to win the Oscar, stoop to now in their campaigning after losing the Globe to Day? Has Carey talked about her own #metoo incidents yet for publicity? Viola can remind voters of Day's light skin privilege and how much more difficult it is for her as a dark chocolate sufferer.

R471. We have Donald Trump to thank for lying about the disease a YEAR ago, all the while mocking people who took precautions, and then PERSONALLY SPREADING THE DISEASE to his administration, his followers, the Secret Service, and his family. With half a million Americans dead and FINALLY getting some kind of vaccine rolling out, it was a tough show to even attempt. Maybe by next year we won't have to live in fear of slow, infectious death.

From Variety:
Even if we stipulate, as COVID-era common sense dictates, that the show necessarily had to be conducted remotely, its remoteness from other sorts of common sense was inexplicable. The only possible explanation is that, seeking the sense of chaos lent by serendipitous meetings of stars in the Beverly Hilton ballroom, the show sought to wring as much possible awkwardness as it could from putting all the nominees in a category onscreen and having the hosts tap out. It was an evening defined by sourness and a sense of obligation on all sides: A thing that was being done because everyone knew it was what was done every year, even as the news insisted on the show’s irrelevance and the production seemed to resist being put on. But what viewers who walked away after three hours feeling as if they just got out of a contentious work meeting with some very unpleasant coworkers may think to themselves is: Maybe it doesn’t need to

by Anonymous | reply 500 | March 1, 2021 4:15 PM |
Jodie is liberal and occasionally speaks out on issues, but as you'd expect from her, it's infrequent. Some people think she might be conservative because of her friendship with Mel Gibson, but it's probably just a common case where longtime friends maintain a relationship by avoiding politics altogether.

R497 is white guilt cinema to the max. Notice how since the late 90s white images on screen have become so gritty. We’ve got Frances shitting in buckets and Ellen Burtyn strung out on Meth pills, while all the black characters are living high on the hog like Goldie Hawn in First Wives Club. We no longer make aspirational lifestyle movies for whites.
by Anonymous | reply 502 | March 1, 2021 4:28 PM |
Sorry, but I'm fucking sick of all of this racial and gender shit. This is one of the main reasons why viewership for these shows has gone down precipitously. They eventually become platforms for female empowerment or lack of diversity ( read " not enough blacks").

As someone who is a third-generation participant in the movie business in LA, I think everyone should know that these "awards" are considered the biggest joke in town. The annual bash at the Beverly Hilton used to be considered more fun than the Oscars because it was a chance to party, get plastered, and be subject to less public scrutiny than at the Oscar awards. It's well-known that many members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association can be bought, sometimes with just an invitation to a party or screening. Most of the so-called "correspondents" have so little work in "reporting" film news to their media employers that they have to actually support themselves with full-time jobs in other occupations. It's a cliche in these parts to say, "On the night the Golden Globe Awards are given, you can't find a decent waiter in LA."

R530 everyone, especially on DL, know the HFPA is a joke. But they do set the pace for the awards season. There is a very high overlap since 1943 (globes first year) of globe winners translating to Oscar wins. So they are important to the studios. I couldn’t help but laugh last night when the HFPA prez and the other two made that perfunctory statement of including blacks in the membership in the future . You know they just hate to share the studio perks with any new members. It’s outrageous in 021 that there are still only 90 members. They still have the asinine rule of ANY member rejecting any new potential member. If they made a drive to include serious film critics and journalists into the fold it would give them a lot more credibility but it’ll never happen.

She may not hate Fonda, but any intelligent person knows that nothing Jane Fonda has ever done in her life has any meaning at all. She's trying to please men and get attention. And look good. Ha, that's rich. Jane Fonda is kind of late to the civil rights movement. It's her cause of the day. Because it is THE cause of the day. But guess what, there was an actual civil rights movement and Jane Fonda was talking lockjaw instead. She gave a Black Panther salute in the 70s to try to gain some support with her other problems. Jane Fonda has nothing to do with black people outside of show business and she never has. She has NEVER been interested in any cause but her own. A most gullible and narcissistic old whore. Desperately seeking the approval of men. Especially ones who could further her career, her agenda or her lifestyle. Fake plastic sow. She has good genetics, nice surgery and avoids FOOD. Just what the eldergays wish they had in a mommy. Now that she's ancient, she flirts with women too.
Lots of white women of stature participated in the civil rights movement. Not Fonda. Jane fancies herself a revolutionary. She participates SAFELY in whatever makes her feel like a bad girl that day. Then takes a helicopter home. The word you're looking for is DILETTANTE.

Many people dislike Jane Fonda. The real world is not a Hollywood award show. Many people in those award audiences know exactly who Fonda is too - no matter their political persuasion. They know it in their gut. You won't catch Sarandon or Cher or Lange or Deborah Winger or even Sandra Bullock clapping too hard for Jane Fonda. Streep will and Julia Roberts - because they don't want to be too closely examined either. And it's fun to dress up and win things!! Live for the Applause.
Fonda is a fake feminist and a fake activist. Ted Danson or Martin Sheen has to hold her hand when she goes to "prison." 🤣🤣🤣 It will always be a man with her. Or a native elder woman. Trust that.
Fonda has never criticized her own industry. NEVER. She shows up for every prestige slot of every good event. She collects her awards then makes a passionate voice quavering speech in sign language. Even when she is at WAR with her own country. Or she'll play a handmade mouth harp for you and say how we must fight for the preservation of _______ people! NOW. She loves to give out the final award of the night so people will remember her incredible figure and wig. Fonda always sucked the dick of Hollywood. She's well spoken and was once or twice a bracing actress. So they applaud her. Same as SHE applauded Bob Hope and Polanski and Jack Lemmon and Jon Voight and whatever Nazi she was fucking at the time. She's a fucking fraud. You don't have to research her to know. Just be of similar or greater intelligence. It's not that hard.
Of course Jodie Foster has ner number. To love Jane Fonda involves some self hate if you're a woman in Hollywood. Jane discovered #MeToo. Too. Yes she did. Just last year!
She never knew that fucking men for work or cash was a bad thing before or that some other women suffered harassment!!! Jane got right activated, right away. In TV interviews!!

Let me guess, the retarded Fonda hating Troll is also the Lange and Streep hating Troll.
Give it a rest already.

R578 and the Janet and Beyoncé and Whitney and Tina etc. hating troll.
Also the obsessed freak.

Don’t fight ladies. It was one of the lowest rated Globes ever so no one saw it.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | March 2, 2021 1:33 AM |
The Fonda-Lange-Streep Hater probably has mommy issues. It didn’t get enough tit as an infant.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | March 2, 2021 1:35 AM |
I LOVE Janet Beyonce Tina Aretha Gladys Diana and Whitney, you fool @ R579.
Your attempts at deflection won't dim my light or observations about the whitest woman of them all - Miss Jane Pittman Fonda.

R582 that’s a lie. Just quit it. We’re all over you.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | March 2, 2021 1:50 AM |
No. You're just one person talking to yourself - just like you always do R583. Everyone knows your name. Have a pleasant evening.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | March 2, 2021 1:53 AM |
R584 your reply literally exposed you lmao. Get a grip. Seriously.
Jennifer Hudson and John Legend have no career outside of doing tribute performances on awards shows and the Jerry Lewis Telethon.
The Jerry Lewis Telethon? Anyone who would make such a "cutting edge" comment is in no position to be judging how in-demand any performer is.

Margot Robbie never keeps up her roots and always looks off. She could be stunning if she tried.
by Anonymous | reply 587 | March 2, 2021 2:18 AM |
It's possible that Margot Robbie was comfortable with herself for now R587. Does that occur to you? She's not a great beauty to my eyes, but she was clean and pretty and dressed. Probably enjoying not having to be on a step and repeat red carpet. She didn't look off. She's a pleasant pretty looking person. Talented.

don't take it personally r588 you sound off yourself
by Anonymous | reply 589 | March 2, 2021 2:31 AM |
Why would I take it personally, fool @ R589? You're also R585, R581, R579, R574, R567 etc. Ad nauseum. What you project comes back on you. Everyone knows your name. Some of us pray for you. May jesus visit healing to your troubled mind tonight. Amen.

Responding to the Anti-Fonda neurosis further upthread: you are bitter or high or both.
Fonda, with lapses of judgement and shaky strategies, often listening to bad advice, has been authentically dedicated to peace, justice and environmental issues for over 50 years.
She is also a star in a way no one is, anymore. Was she a great actress? Define great. Was Jeanne Moreau a great actress? Does it matter? Did both Moreau and Fonda light up a screen, demand attention, and touch you with the power of their cinematic Presence. Yep.
by Anonymous | reply 591 | March 2, 2021 2:45 AM |
What a strangely emotional response R591. There is no such thing as anti fonda neurosis. That's invented terminology. I see a public figure clearly. We've both been exposed to the same facade. You're free to worship her, or question her value and sincerity. Don't matter to me. There is an onslaught of stupidity that infects old white gay men. Some y'all worship certain women for reasons that appear juvenile and shallow. A little neurotic tbh.
Fonda doesn't appear to be in much danger in that silly photo R591. What is that tieing her hands? A shoelace. She's had far more violent acts done to her with her consent. She's a ridiculous woman. She doesn't get a pass because she is over 80 years old. She's always been a ridiculous woman. Do you think Jane Fonda ever spent a moment of fear in her LONG life that she would end up in jail or prison R591? She's a fucking white privileged limousine liberal dilettante. With a case of lockjaw. I don't think they can award her any further. 🙏🏾
You sound like it's hard to get the noodle through. Sorry bout that Pa.

R590 Retard, don’t bring me into your shit. Your kind of crazy is enough to witness from the sidelines.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | March 2, 2021 3:21 AM |
"tieing" means to achieve a tie... an impasse. And it's a zip tie.... which is what law enforcement uses when arresting large numbers of people. I fear you may not have strayed out of your media bubble much.
Sorry about that, Junior.
by Anonymous | reply 594 | March 2, 2021 3:24 AM |
This is my 3rd post on this thread r590. I also posted at r587 and r589. You are paranoid and a nut case. Get help.
by Anonymous | reply 595 | March 2, 2021 3:30 AM |
Ha, some ancient white fag will not lecture me on the use of zip ties. I'm a black man with more muscle than you can imagine gramps. What a sad, slight old man you are R594. Don't call me junior. EVER. An impasse? You've never been close.
Fonda looks very pleased with herself in her loose tie and zipper FACE. Who knew the old hag had so many fags? Tom Hayden gave Jane several varieties of warts and STIs, left her with a big bill, no uterus and three dead sets of tit implants. Nice for you to live down the street. When will you all die?

I wonder how the ratings would have fared with a Ricky Gervais-hosted virtual GG's.
Oh, wait.
This means I hate women.
by Anonymous | reply 597 | March 2, 2021 3:46 AM |
R596 You sound nice.
by Anonymous | reply 598 | March 2, 2021 3:51 AM |
The Fonda-Lange-Streep Hater apparently hates Sigourney Weaver, too.
Like, who actively dislikes Siggy? Jesus.
by Anonymous | reply 599 | March 2, 2021 3:53 AM |
On to the Oscars.
by Anonymous | reply 600 | March 2, 2021 3:55 AM |
The troll claims to be black but types like the pudgy Caucasian retard who runs around here pretending to be Viola Davis. Black my ass.
