Even though I have some serious large item to purchase, I just brought something STUPID. Why did I do this? Also, what are the items you just purchase to get your retail therapy fix on? Was it worth it?
Stupid Shopping: Just brought something stupid. What is something you purchase that was stupid?

I stopped at a garage sale last weekend, and bought a 1960s round dome penny gumball machine, still full of gum. I have no idea why I bought it, other than it brought back memories of when I was a little kid, and I thought it was cool. Its in my office, and has been getting lots of comments.

it's probably from the 90's

I just purchase some stuff off the view show. Why, I didn't need any of this shit (even for gifts)? I needed to buy other things. WHY WHY WHY?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 18, 2021 4:58 AM |
what is the view show?
I might buy a very expensive home wifi music system but I'm hesitating. This means I will not buy it and give up the idea for another 2 years and then go through the same thing again.

R3 Not sure why you have an opinion on something you haven't seen, and know nothing about. The serial number indicates it was made in 1950 by Ford Gum and Machine Co.

I brought this gorgous Tiffanie Shandaleer on the view show.

Looks like something Lindseybelle Graham would have in her bedroom

I just ordered these hunting bibs. I do not hunt, but I did just buy several wooded acres and I'm sure they'll come in handy at some point.

I was seduced by these elegantly clothed blackamoors.

Filson lasts forever and everyone is pushing their vests (now they call them gillettes) r9.
I’m more worried about the waist sizes currently available. Will you be smuggling opossum or badgers?

A one-year subscription to DL.

I bought a table cloth on impulse from TJMaxx.com. It’s ivory with a black print of rabbits, kind of like a toile print, but with little pops of color on some flowers. I thought it would cheer me up and get me looking forward to spring. And it was only $12.99. I bought a bunch of other shit I really didn’t need to qualify for free shipping.
The tablecloth arrived last week and I was like WTF? It is the frauiest thing I have ever seen. Don’t know what I was thinking. I usually don’t keep a cloth on my dining room table and it’s not like I will be having anyone over. I am going to send it to my mom. She will love it.

Yeah, I have other Filson gear (including a vintage tote, which I mentioned on the tote thread) and it's indestructible. I bought the bibs from a different site. Size 34.

I bought a Patty Duke album. My Mom bought the album for my brother and I since we watched, "The Patty Duke Show". She regretted it because we played it over and over on the HiFi that was in the living room.

I'm buying Christmas ornaments I've wanted for almost 20 years now. 100$ for the 3.
I really shouldn't spend the money but I want them and its hard to find all three at once.

I hadn't yet moved out of my parent's house at the time and was working a part time job at Pat Catan's (now owned by Michael's). I would buy things there on occasion - lamps, picture frames, art prints and such, with the intention of decorating my first apartment. At one point they were selling cuckoo clocks and I bought one of those too. I don't know what the hell I was thinking at the time. Thankfully I finally had the common sense to not hang that in my tiny apartment and drive myself and my neighbors nuts.

I had to have a hot tub, but I didn’t want the boxed-wine/floating bowl of Cheetos kind, because I’m fancy. I bought a “Japanese” elongated two man tub.
The tub should have run on a 220 volt power supply, but I had a 110 gfci that barely brought the water to temp. The water was municipal well water which fucked up the PH. I used it perhaps two dozen times over four years.

I went into BB&B to get Brita filters and ended up buying some other stuff to use my coupons. I think they weren't worth it even with the coupon. $25 for two pillowcases. That seems stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 18, 2021 6:41 AM |
R20, so you installed your fancy hot tub by yourself? Because no electrician would install a 220v hot tub into a 110v power source. They don't have cords with plugs on the end that just plug into an outlet, they're hard-wired into a separate breaker. Are you sure you haven't confused it with the heated foot bath you have in front of the recliner?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 18, 2021 3:58 PM |
NO, R22, I paid an electrician to install a 110v gfci outside. Then, when I ordered online, the hot tub company provided a whole page of warnings for selecting the proper voltage - along with color of exterior, lining, and cover. I had to go out of my way to be stupid.

I find my online shopping for stupid items has increased since being stuck at home because of covid. I almost think it just gives me something to look forward to 😁

so my expensive and stupid purchase turned out to be a bust. Also, the return policy that they NEVER mentioned is the worse. I brought from that view your deal show. I'm fucking mad. So what did I do, i went out and spent $200 on liquor.
