Adam Kinzinger's letter from Family members rebuking and disowning him for speaking out against Trump

Adam Kinzinger is navigating conservative backlash following his voting to impeach Donald Trump last month, including from his own family.

The Illinois Republican congressman was mailed a scathing handwritten letter from 11 members of his family, which was obtained by The New York Times and published Monday. Karen Otto, Kinzinger's cousin, was the scribe of the letter.

In the two-page letter, Kinzinger's family said he embarrassed their name by breaking with Trump, called Democrats the "devil's army," and rebuked him for losing the respect of several conservative talk show hosts. They also accused him of falling for the Democratic party's alleged "socialism ideals."

"Oh my, what a disappointment you are to us and to God!" the letter dated January 8 read. "We were once so proud of your accomplishments."

"You should be very proud that you have lost the respect of Lou Dobbs, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Greg Kelly, etc., and most importantly in our book, Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh and us!" it continued. "We should list even more grievances against you, but decided you are not worth more of our time to list them."

What a bunch of losers. Trump incited an insurrection and they still support him.

"We are thoroughly disgusted with you!" the letter said, with the words "thoroughly disgusted" underlined.

Newsweek reached out to Kinzinger for comment. This story will be updated with any response.

Kinzinger, who first took office in 2013, is one of three House Republicans who voted both to impeach Trump in January and for the removal of Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee positions. Following Trump's acquittal, Kinzinger said that they "have a lot of work to do to restore the Republican Party."

"The damage being done to the state of our republic and the values we hold dear is unacceptable," he tweeted on Saturday. "We can and must do better for the sake of our democracy, and for the soul of our country."

As far as reelection goes after voting to impeach Trump and remove Greene, he's not worried about possible backlash despite going against his GOP colleagues. "The bottom line, I don't need the job. I enjoy doing it. I'd like to win again, but if I don't, I can look at myself in the mirror and I'm at total peace," he said on Wednesday during a Washington Post webinar.

"I looked at what happened on the sixth and said, if that's not impeachable, we may as well just get rid of impeachment because then nothing is," Kinzinger added. "Whatever the consequences are it's the right thing to do."

by Anonymousreply 1February 16, 2021 10:56 AM

Meh, Rethuglican problems. He’s still an asshole

by Anonymousreply 2February 16, 2021 10:58 AM

What will they say when they learn he sucks cock?

by Anonymousreply 3February 16, 2021 11:01 AM

To quote Elaine Benes when referring to George Costanza's father Frank inventing Festivus:

"Ahhh, and another piece of the puzzle falls into place."

Kinzinger's being in the closet, his right-wing politics, etc.

All for a seemingly normal guy.

Now it all makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 4February 16, 2021 11:01 AM

We need more "assholes" like him in the Republican party. I don't like most of his politics but at least he has some integrity.

I remember in the 1970s, if Trump came around, he would have been thrown out of the party.

by Anonymousreply 5February 16, 2021 11:02 AM

[quote] I don't like most of his politics but at least he has some integrity.

Which part of his republican politics do you like?

So stealth, Boris.

by Anonymousreply 6February 16, 2021 11:10 AM

He lost the respect of Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, and Tucker Carlson, aka people who have no respect for themselves, this country, or the constitution? Omg, no! How aaaaawful!

by Anonymousreply 7February 16, 2021 12:04 PM

Since the Republican party has become the party of authoritarian violence and sedition, he sounds pretty sane.

by Anonymousreply 8February 16, 2021 12:28 PM

Sad. trump tore the country apart as well as many families.

by Anonymousreply 9February 16, 2021 12:33 PM

I volunteer to blow him to cheer him up.

by Anonymousreply 10February 16, 2021 12:58 PM

Of course it was written by Karen.

by Anonymousreply 11February 16, 2021 1:02 PM

I can't imagine he won't move over to the Democrat party in the coming year. Or, perhaps more realistically, simply leave politics.

by Anonymousreply 12February 16, 2021 1:05 PM

Conservative women are the worst.

by Anonymousreply 13February 16, 2021 1:05 PM

What a sick bunch of people.

As far as I’m concerned, he lost nothing if those people won’t talk to him again.

by Anonymousreply 14February 16, 2021 1:07 PM

He won't become a Democrat, he voted with Trump something like 90% of the time, even more than Graham did.

by Anonymousreply 15February 16, 2021 1:10 PM

[quote] he voted with Trump something like 90% of the time, even more than Graham did.

How is this possible? There was like one bill in Trump's four years that became a law.

by Anonymousreply 16February 16, 2021 1:13 PM

R10, And I volunteer to eat his hole until he begs me to stop.

by Anonymousreply 17February 16, 2021 1:24 PM

Scrappily hand written with multiple underscore lines replacing all caps!

So no one in his family has a computer with a printer? You know they hate him just for wearing a suit and tie. The resentment of a single successful person in an otherwise unremarkable family is a commonplace occurrence.

The politics is just an excuse to lash out at the good looking ambitious kid that they all hated from the outset.

Karen Otto, your name isn't Kinzinger, so STFU.

He retorted that they're all "brainwashed."

by Anonymousreply 19February 16, 2021 1:30 PM

In OP's picture he has what DL would unkindly refer to as "tard face."

by Anonymousreply 20February 16, 2021 1:32 PM

I agree that this is sad. These people are awful awful human beings on every level. It is interesting that Adam has to tell himself that they are brainwashed — which is also true, but more than anything, they’re terrible terrible people,

Adam, get out now, leave the area you’re from, join the Dems, make a clean break. Run, Adam, run away!

by Anonymousreply 21February 16, 2021 1:46 PM

Here in Pennsylvania the state legislature is busying themselves with deciding whether to "censure" Pat Toomey for daring to vote for Trump's conviction. This party is an embarrassment. Like the book title says, "Everything Trump Touches Dies"

by Anonymousreply 22February 16, 2021 1:49 PM

I look forward to seeing more of Adam Kinzinger as a pundit on either CNN or MSNBC after the 2022 election. I hope he is able to retain his seat because if he isn't he will be replaced by some Trump ass kissing right wing nutcase but I expect he won't

by Anonymousreply 23February 16, 2021 2:06 PM

Interesting...in the letter, it said.."it's not for us to judge, or be judged.". Yet, that's exactly what they're doing...to the point that they are cutting him off entirely. How is that not judgemental and worse? Even if you judge someone and don't agree with them, somehow if you truly care/love that person, you learn to live with that and make concessions. That's what normal people do. We all never agree on everything. These people really are terrible. Heartless and souless...but good Christians!

by Anonymousreply 24February 16, 2021 2:06 PM

I think The DataLounge should adopt poor little Adam Kinzinger, we'll take real good care of Adam and satisfy all his needs for family

A principled republican is still a REPUBLICAN

by Anonymousreply 25February 16, 2021 2:09 PM

AND THAT IS HOW YOU KNOW HIS FAMILY IS IN A INSIDIOUS CULT! end of story!....

by Anonymousreply 26February 16, 2021 2:14 PM

There is no principle here-- just political calculation that going against the grain now will mark him as someone with 'leadership' potential.

by Anonymousreply 27February 16, 2021 2:20 PM

This Trump-led group of political followers/activists is starting to remind me a lot of Sociologists.

by Anonymousreply 28February 16, 2021 2:22 PM

^^^ Err...I meant to say - Scientologists. ^^^^^^

by Anonymousreply 29February 16, 2021 2:23 PM

Who made the letter public, AK or the family?

by Anonymousreply 30February 16, 2021 2:24 PM

These people are seriously nuts...always have been. Christian taliban and ISIS.

by Anonymousreply 31February 16, 2021 2:25 PM

Bill Maher kept calling him Kissinger.

by Anonymousreply 32February 16, 2021 2:26 PM

Wait till his family finds out he’s gay.

by Anonymousreply 33February 16, 2021 2:33 PM

If Rush Limbaugh and the truly insane Mark Levin are the standard bearers this bitch offers up (along with Trump of course), then she's truly brainwashed. But so many others are too.

Kinzinger is a classic right wing Republican: anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-ACA, anti-tax. He supported Trump's policies most of the time. So while I am glad to see him reject Trump's attempt to overturn the election, be aware that he would toss all of us under the bus in a heartbeat.

He did have one cogent thing to say in the Times article:

"We just fear," he said. "Fear the Democrats. Fear the future. Fear everything. And it works for an election cycle or two. The problem is that it does real damage to our Democracy."

I would say that it worked for far longer than a few election cycles. The GOP has been playing the fear factor game for decades.

by Anonymousreply 34February 16, 2021 2:43 PM

Just on the family theme, acquaintances of mine are getting divorced because the husband has become a total Trump cultist. Four kids between 6 and 13.

by Anonymousreply 35February 16, 2021 2:43 PM

[quote] Kinzinger is a classic right wing Republican: anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-ACA, anti-tax. He supported Trump's policies most of the time. So while I am glad to see him reject Trump's attempt to overturn the election, be aware that he would toss all of us under the bus in a heartbeat.

Just like Aaron Schock did.

And even after he came out, he never apologized for it.

by Anonymousreply 36February 16, 2021 2:48 PM

I LOVE that the smug self indulgent letter is now a part of NY TIMES archives! SNAP!

by Anonymousreply 37February 16, 2021 2:57 PM

Disgusting deplorables. Wonder if they know he’s gay? Probably not. Trumpism has torn apart the country and families. It’s like a jihadist movement. Bizarre. He’ll probably become a Democrat soon as the repugs ultimately sold out.

by Anonymousreply 38February 16, 2021 3:01 PM

The only manager that may respond to this Karen is God. That's how unhinged she and her folk are.

by Anonymousreply 39February 16, 2021 3:04 PM

btw, who is Mark Levin? If he's the same guy I'm thinking of, he was a NYC rock DJ, I forgot what radio station he was on. Is Mark now some some kind of ReThug 'voice' these days?

What some people will do for money!

by Anonymousreply 40February 16, 2021 3:06 PM

I love how the letter ends with "cc: many conservative Republicans"

It's like watching the residents of Green Acres trying to figure out how to act professional.

by Anonymousreply 41February 16, 2021 3:08 PM

Arnold the Pig would have done better.

by Anonymousreply 42February 16, 2021 3:10 PM

If his parents are already cutting him off, why not just ditch the beard wife and come out of the closet? His future in politics is dead anyway. Might as well stop living a lie.

by Anonymousreply 43February 16, 2021 3:10 PM

^^pigs are intelligent

by Anonymousreply 44February 16, 2021 3:11 PM

Kininger is anti gay but Pro Trans so I couldn't care less. This is what he gets for being an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 45February 16, 2021 3:12 PM

I think it's quite an accomplishment of young Adam to have been able to do so well despite being raised by a retarded family.

by Anonymousreply 46February 16, 2021 3:14 PM

I’ve never seen such vitriol within families and friends stemming from a con artist who somehow got elected president.

Politics were rarely the main topic of conversation unless something unusual was going on in the world. Now it’s omnipresent and opinions couldn’t be further apart. I’ve said this before, I’m old enough for this type of conversation:

Who are you voting for?

Bush, he’s done a good job so far and I think he could do more in another four. You?

Oh, I’m for Clinton. He’s not a Washington insider so he may bring fresh perspective.

Oh, that’s cool.

Nowadays it’s:

Who you voting for?

Oh definitely Biden.

HULK SMASH!!!!

by Anonymousreply 47February 16, 2021 3:20 PM

Anyone know who leaked the letter?

by Anonymousreply 48February 16, 2021 3:23 PM

Exactly...yes R47. Those were the days.

by Anonymousreply 49February 16, 2021 3:25 PM

I presumed Kinzunger released it himself since he previously had been talking about it to the press.

by Anonymousreply 50February 16, 2021 3:25 PM

His family and people like them are on another planet.

by Anonymousreply 51February 16, 2021 3:26 PM

Don't act like some of you don't have these same kind of nutbags in your family.

by Anonymousreply 52February 16, 2021 3:28 PM

"You cannot judge Donald Trump, but GOD and me HATE YOU!!!!!"

-- Kristian Kunt Kousin

by Anonymousreply 53February 16, 2021 3:30 PM

I read that the Christian cunt who wrote it sent copies to media outlets to embarrass him.

by Anonymousreply 54February 16, 2021 3:31 PM

Trying to save the GOP seems like a hiding to nothing. Even George W. Bush era GOP was corrupt and mendacious - reverting to that era would only lead back to Trump. It’s just funny that any of these Republicans think they “used to” stand for something. Their decay started back in the early ‘60s and continued under Nixon; by 1980 they were goners, the party had already been sold out to strictly corporate interests, demonising minorities - or just leaving them to die altogether - and telling their big lies about “small government” and “trickle down economics”. THIS is what he wants to return to? I appreciate his revulsion towards Trump but - what took him SO long? He can fuck off, if only because we have no use for him.

by Anonymousreply 55February 16, 2021 3:40 PM

[quote] I think it's quite an accomplishment of young Adam to have been able to do so well despite being raised by a retarded family.

Adam was on his County Board at age 20 and interned for a US Senator after graduating from college at Illinois State.

After that, he joined the Air Force and earned his pilot wings, so not only was he able to get out of his podunk Illinois town, but he probably also saw a great deal of the world. He worked his way up to Lt. Colonel.

Only seven years after joining the military, was he elected to Congress.

That's a pretty fast rise. No doubt thanks to meeting with none other than Mikey Pence. (Hmmm.....)

I would imagine there is a good amount of jealousy from his relatives, but after being in Congress for so long, they also probably expect him to be a die-hard MAGAT.

There must be a very weird dynamic in that family.

by Anonymousreply 56February 16, 2021 3:42 PM

Lets make no mistake, though.

Kinzinger is NOT one of the "good guys." He's still opposes EVERYTHING we stand for.

I see a lot of sympathy for him on this thread, and I know that it's only because he's good looking.

If it were Ted Cruz or some other Republican troll doing what Adam is doing, I doubt we'd be seeing the same amount of sympathy.

by Anonymousreply 57February 16, 2021 3:44 PM

Adam's a cheeky little thing for sharing that so we could all have a chuckle/be terrified of the abject stupity of the millions of people who share these inane but dangerous beliefs.

by Anonymousreply 58February 16, 2021 3:48 PM

[quote] Adam's a cheeky little thing for sharing that

Should read: "Adam's a cheeky little queen for sharing that..."

There, I fixed it for you.

by Anonymousreply 59February 16, 2021 3:52 PM

[quote]How is this possible? There was like one bill in Trump's four years that became a law.

You do realize that they vote on things that don't become laws--right?

by Anonymousreply 60February 16, 2021 3:53 PM

[quote]Kinzinger is NOT one of the "good guys." He's still opposes EVERYTHING we stand for.

There is nothing wrong with people having disagreements on policy and how best to achieve their policy goals. However, when it came down to it, Mr. Kinzinger was able to put politics aside for country. He saw what Trump did was wrong and voted accordingly. It doesn't make him a hero, but it makes him far better than the majority of his caucus.

by Anonymousreply 61February 16, 2021 3:56 PM

But R47, Republicans convinced themselves during the Reagan years that they would hold the highest office in perpetuity - that NO ONE would ever challenge their reign. And then Bill Clinton did and they were FURIOUS. I’ll never forget the gathering of Republicans at my work place the morning after that election (I worked at a hotel with a lot of high-flying clientele) - they were BESIDE themselves as if they never saw it coming and behaved as if it were the end of the world. That may sound familiar and maybe Democrats are equally guilty of the same behaviour - but this was 1992, after 12 years of Republican reign and a long recession. They really thought they were going to hold The White House FOREVER. Power is their only concern.

by Anonymousreply 62February 16, 2021 3:57 PM

Poor guy. I have a dick he can lean on.

by Anonymousreply 63February 16, 2021 3:59 PM

Well put, r61. I was going to post something similar but your post is much more succinct than I could’ve made mine.

by Anonymousreply 64February 16, 2021 4:17 PM

Hope he was adopted.

by Anonymousreply 65February 16, 2021 4:21 PM

Gurl they are just mad that he likes mens.

by Anonymousreply 66February 16, 2021 4:29 PM

FUCK. ADAM. KINZINGER.

CLOSETED. REPUBLICAN. SCUM.

by Anonymousreply 67February 16, 2021 4:30 PM

I'm very happy to see the Republican Party coming apart at the seams, and Bushian stalwarts like this tool getting their comeuppance from the family whose vile white supremcist culture they tacitly enabled for decades, but do not expect me to shed tears for any of them, or to embrace the vocally "social conservative" like this asshole who would be just fine seeing none of us with any rights, let alone any care for working class people or poor people.

In other words, once a Republican, always a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 68February 16, 2021 4:31 PM

[quote]He saw what Trump did was wrong and voted accordingly. It doesn't make him a hero, but it makes him far better than the majority of his caucus.

This is like saying he's one of the good Nazis. His caucus is a bunch of Deplorables who he was happy to enable and side with for decades of his life, as long as it advanced his career.

by Anonymousreply 69February 16, 2021 4:33 PM

R16, I was using the 538 stats on how often Kinzinger votes in line with Trump's positions, which according to them is 90.2% of the time.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 70February 16, 2021 4:33 PM

Now that he's free of his nutbag fundie family, he should just come out now since he's still young enough to get some primo cock. It worked out well for Cockgobbler. Maybe the two of them could become a couple.....

by Anonymousreply 71February 16, 2021 4:35 PM

Appalling excuse for a family. Let me see...

Biden is a practicing Catholic who faithfully attends mass every Sunday.

Trump rarely goes to church but is quite comfortable with police clearing away peaceful protesters and holding a Bible in front of a church for a photo op.

But Biden is Satan and Trump is sent by God???

by Anonymousreply 72February 16, 2021 4:36 PM

Difficult for him to join the Dems when he’s anti abortion and pro guns. His policies are pretty awful but he has some integrity. Maybe he should become an independent. Though I’m hoping that trump forms a third party for the crazies, with the less lunatic remaining in the GOP. Splitting the opposition vote would be excellent.

by Anonymousreply 73February 16, 2021 4:38 PM

R72 I know God doesn't exist because when Trump held up that bible he should've burst into flames.

by Anonymousreply 74February 16, 2021 4:40 PM

[quote]Difficult for him to join the Dems when he’s anti abortion and pro guns.

Democrats don't want him! He's a cookie-cutter Republican slime ball. His anti-Trump stance is a quirk but he's not our friend or our ally.

Unless of course you want a Democratic Party that is not even center-right but full-tilt right, in which case the rest of us will be leaving the Dems and starting real leftist party.

by Anonymousreply 75February 16, 2021 4:42 PM

I will be surprised if he doesn't switch parties.

Illinois is a blue state and if he has a desire to be Senator or Governor, it will give him a much better chance.

by Anonymousreply 76February 16, 2021 4:43 PM

[quote] You do realize that they vote on things that don't become laws--right?

Yes. I was trying to understand how many times there were actual votes in the Trump years. There don't seem to have been many.

The link to 538 (thanks, r70!) was much more helpful.

by Anonymousreply 77February 16, 2021 4:45 PM

[quote] What will they say when they learn he sucks cock?

It's like they already know. His only way to redemption in their eyes was to be a Deplorable and stand for Deplorable values. This is their way of signalling that they are very disappointed by his presumed homosexuality.

Family sucks!

by Anonymousreply 78February 16, 2021 4:48 PM

Sounds like he leaked this because they've been doing some shady shit on social media / other.

This is just a shining example of what it is like to be raised in a Republican family - they will turn their backs on you so easily if you don't conform to their ideas.

It is definitely like a religion/cult - believe how we believe or you will be shunned!

I'm glad he's not taking this lying down. Fuck them and I hope they get a lot of blowback on social media.

by Anonymousreply 79February 16, 2021 4:50 PM

R48 and R79, he didn't leak the letter; his horrendous family sent copies of the letter to various right-wing media themselves! That was the CC included on the letter. They are taking it seriously distancing themselves from him. That is something you don't come back from as a family.

by Anonymousreply 80February 16, 2021 4:53 PM

Remember, no Republican deserves any sympathy or grace for whatever they endure from this point forward. They enabled, coddled, endorsed, emboldened and protected Trump all this time fully aware that he is vile, vain, immoral, corrupt, narcissistic con-man who does not care about America or Americans. They deserve everything they get.

by Anonymousreply 81February 16, 2021 4:58 PM

Adam, NOW is the time to present hole!

by Anonymousreply 82February 16, 2021 5:01 PM

Kizzy: come out of the dark, walk boldly to the light. You can’t help those people anymore.

by Anonymousreply 83February 16, 2021 5:03 PM

Amazing he was able to do anything productive with his life, considering he comes from a family of insane people.

by Anonymousreply 84February 16, 2021 5:06 PM

I don't believe in this argument proposed above that his previous voting record somehow makes him now irredeemable. People do have changes of heart in American politics: Arianna and Michael Huffington, David Brock, etc. We should welcome someone who has rejected Trump and Trumpism and encourage him in his efforts to break with his family and make the Republican party better. If he or Lisa Murkowski or the other congresspeople and Senators who voted against Trump would switch parties now--or even become Independents who caucused with Democrats--it would be so much the better for this country.

Playing ideological purity games does no one any good.

by Anonymousreply 85February 16, 2021 5:07 PM

R81 - I agree, but I think Jan 6th and his family's reaction may just be a wake-up call for him.

I certainly would look around and start to question things. I sincerely believe most Republicans just do not challenge their own beliefs, because to do so is discouraged but also would open up a lot of problems.

by Anonymousreply 86February 16, 2021 5:14 PM

R85 - I reluctantly accept the Huffingtons and Brock into the Dem fold, but I really hate these people who knowingly and admittedly LIED THEIR ASSES OFF for the GOP for years and then have a change of heart.

Damage is done. And there are thousands more just like them, except they never admit to their lies.

But it's difficult to break that GOP mindset - hell, look at some of the Trump supporters on this board. What kind of cognitive dissonance must you have to support the GOP and Trump and be gay?

by Anonymousreply 87February 16, 2021 5:23 PM

[quote]People do have changes of heart in American politics: Arianna and Michael Huffington, David Brock, etc.

These examples are decades old. They predate Trumpism to point that they are not relevant to this discussion.

Also we have seen zero evidence that Adam Kinzinger is anything but the low-taxes, no -safety net, pro-guns and anti-choice conservative that he has ALWAYS been.

Stop falling all over yourself for people who offer you NOTHING.

by Anonymousreply 88February 16, 2021 5:41 PM

Adam Kinzinger's view of the last decade of Republicanism, per NYT:

Years ago, I had a friend who finally came out to his parents. His parents were awful about and the rest of the family wasn't much better. It took them years to act like parents again. I have sympathy, on some level, for anyone who looses the support of those who should always be there.

It does seem odd than the letter was handwritten by someone who's not that literate. You'd think the family had at least one member with an education and a computer.

by Anonymousreply 98February 16, 2021 6:20 PM

Having more than a few daft & illiterate relatives of my own, I kind of chuckle that he put them (and their poor spelling) on blast in the NYTimes. Suck on that, Aunt Sandy! I also admire his *no fucks to give* attitude about the whole thing. To send a letter like this to someone has no intention other than to hurt & belittle them & he didn't give them that satisfaction.

He's taking a beating now, but if he can hang in there, eventually this Dump cloud will pass & this guy, Big Liz & Romney will come out looking like the smart, sane answer to the MAGA lunatics.

Oh good lord, the irony.

by Anonymousreply 100February 16, 2021 6:32 PM

[quote] his horrendous family sent copies of the letter to various right-wing media themselves! That was the CC included on the letter. They are taking it seriously distancing themselves from him. That is something you don't come back from as a family.

So you mean he married the beard for nothing???

by Anonymousreply 101February 16, 2021 6:41 PM

Here's what I hope.

Adam Kinzinger is challenged by a Democrat, and then LOSES.

Adam Kinzinger falls into oblivion after that.

I give ZERO FUCKS about Adam Kinzinger.

He supported every single one of Trump's initiatives. Now he can fucking eat shit.

by Anonymousreply 102February 16, 2021 6:42 PM

Lost the respect of Rush Limbaugh? Well, chop off my dick and call me Caitlyn!

For the person above who said that Trump would have been tossed out of the party in the 70s-that’s not necessarily true. A lot of Trump’s policies align with Reagan’s. “Make America Great Again” was a Reagan campaign slogan, and Reagan used bigotry to expand his popularity with working class whites.

Reagan had a thin veneer of refinement that Trump lacks. And Reagan’s cockwhore wife was his closest adviser and was determined to keep the most most radical extremists from getting to her husband .

Melanoma and Ikancunt could never do that with Trump, who loves it when these people suck up to him. Those are the primary differences between the two .

by Anonymousreply 104February 16, 2021 7:09 PM

Trump is very much in line with old-era Republicans like Reagan and Nixon. All of them are known for rabid racism and blatant cronyism.

To pretend that the Republican Party pre-Trump was all Eisenhower and Ford types is incredibly inaccurate. Let's not forget Barry Goldwater while we're at it, or Pat Buchanan, or Phylis Schafly. ALL of them contributed to Trumpism.

by Anonymousreply 105February 16, 2021 7:20 PM

Good looking guy. Shame he's a republicunt

by Anonymousreply 106February 16, 2021 7:22 PM

Kinzinger's family sounds like uninformed, ignorant, judgmental, right-wing whack job bigots. On the other hand, Kinzinger supported Trump for president in Nov 2020. So he's not much different except he saw the light after the Capitol was sieged. What the hell took him so long to break from Trump? Kinzinger enabled Trump and this bigotd cult to thrive for more than four years. Kinzinger is a fucking Repug who is not to be trusted. No wonder his family was shocked and surprised by his new enlightened stance. They know him as the same whack job as they are.

WTF? He didn't break from Trump!

He may have condemned the Capitol riots, but as far as his belief system goes, it's exactly the same as it was before.

He's still a Deplorable Republican monster. He hasn't changed his POLITICS at all.

by Anonymousreply 108February 16, 2021 7:45 PM

With family like that, who needs enemies?

by Anonymousreply 109February 16, 2021 8:49 PM

Nikki Haley is the only honest Republican left.

by Anonymousreply 110February 16, 2021 9:52 PM

I'm assuming he was against gay marriage but I can't really find any credible source attesting to that.

by Anonymousreply 111February 16, 2021 10:00 PM

R110. Thanks for the signature line. Nikki Haley is repulsive.

by Anonymousreply 112February 16, 2021 10:02 PM

R3 He's gay? With an appalling voting record on gay rights?

by Anonymousreply 113February 16, 2021 10:03 PM

Kinzinger voted against the Equality Act.[68][69]

Kinzinger has an 11% rating from the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBTQ rights advocacy group in the United States.[70]

Why else would he have been advertising his ass online?

by Anonymousreply 116February 16, 2021 10:09 PM

R113 No I'm not, and he's married.

by Anonymousreply 117February 16, 2021 10:10 PM

That's a shame, R114. I've always said that if a Republican were gay friendly and otherwise socially lenient yet fiscally somewhat conservative he or she could rule the world.

by Anonymousreply 118February 16, 2021 10:10 PM

letter is just garbage. he is happily shut of them. if GOP is to actually survive, they will need people like him, but not doctrinaire half baked ideologues like that bunch of nothings. losing respect of hannity and dobbs is like being disliked by hitler and goebbels.

by Anonymousreply 119February 16, 2021 10:11 PM

Speaking of married, R117.

Who can forget this hilarious wedding photo of Adam and his bride?

He looks like he gives zero fucks about her.

The captions on this must have been brutal.

"See?? I'm straight, bitches!!"

I tried searching everywhere for those nude photos of Adam Kinzinger's ass (with the tattoo) that were circulating around the internet, but it looks like they have been scrubbed CLEAN.

Not a single trace of them.

Can anyone find even one?

[quote] For the person above who said that Trump would have been tossed out of the party in the 70s-that’s not necessarily true.

I'm talking about the GOP ready to toss out Nixon after Watergate. He resigned because he knew he would be convicted. His party members urged him to resign. Most of Nixon's closest aides WENT TO JAIL for years.... and yet we have an ex-POTUS who committed an insurrection and still free as a bird with power in his hands. What Nixon did was peanuts compared to what Trump has done. The Capitol has not been invaded since 1812 and still people like Kinzinger's Deplorable family members still wholeheartedly support him?!! Makes no sense.

Mitt Romney is old GOP from years ago.

by Anonymousreply 123February 16, 2021 11:09 PM

Read about the letter and some of its contents in the article below. Much of his family's diatribe is standard Trumpist / Evangelical BS.

[quote]“President Trump is not perfect, but neither are you or any of us for that matter!” the letter says. “It is not for us to judge or be judged! But he is a Christian!”

As mentioned many times, these people can't name one instance or example of how Trump is Christ-like or follows and Christian precept. And they dismiss any bad behavior by using "judge not" VERY loosely. Kinzinger is better off being disowned from his family members.

Probably the most baffling aspect of the rise of Trump was how the evangelical Christians believed, and still believe, without question, that Trump is also a Christian and that he has ever read the Bible. Has it ever been confirmed that he regularly attended church at any point in his life? That he has ever voluntarily opened up the Bible?

by Anonymousreply 127February 17, 2021 12:08 AM

[quote] Adam Kinzinger was born on February 27, 1978, in Kankakee, Illinois, the son of Betty Jo, an elementary school teacher, and Rus Kinzinger, a CEO of faith-based organizations

Another piece of the puzzle.

Not one of you has sent a letter of support as Adam’s very gay uncle - girding his burgeoning loins to stand erect, thrusting forward...

by Anonymousreply 129February 17, 2021 12:53 AM

Evangelicals are all grifters just like Trump.

by Anonymousreply 130February 17, 2021 12:55 AM

Although I don't agree with his core beliefs, I am impressed by his willingness to do something about the Trump problem. He seems like a nice guy. I'd spend the night with him.

R20 Reminds me of George W. Bush especially around the eyes.

by Anonymousreply 133February 17, 2021 1:59 AM

The Guardian article mentions a large extended family, 32 cousins, on his father's side. It looks like his immediate family were not part of this

[Quote]Days later, nearly a dozen cousins and extended relatives in Illinois sent a blistering, handwritten, two-page letter to state Republican officials and to Kinzinger’s father.

by Anonymousreply 134February 17, 2021 7:43 PM

[quote]still people like Kinzinger's Deplorable family members still wholeheartedly support [Trump]?!!

Never forget that although these people wrap themselves in the flag and call themselves "patriots" they HATE this fucking country and everything ideal it was founded on.

by Anonymousreply 135February 17, 2021 8:09 PM

Yes, Dearheart, Trump supporters still support Trump.

by Anonymousreply 136February 18, 2021 5:48 AM

I'll adopt him since he's been disowned.
