Take your pick and explain!
Which European country has the WORST cuisine overall?

Goody, another chance to expose our ignorance of countries we've never visited!

Don't call it Czechia. It wounds.

I’ve lived in Europe and visited England several times. The food isn’t as bad as the reputation. As a matter of fact, I’ve never had a bad meal while there.
Conversely, the food in Denmark and Sweden wasn’t very appetizing.

Romania

The food in London is amazing...so many fine dining options. True English cuisine is disgusting though. I actually like Russian food. It’s tasty but looks unappetizing. Swedish food is gross, and they get REALLY offended if you dislike it. I have had great meals in larger cities in Germany (much like London, you can get great food in larger cities). Man, I miss traveling. The food is the best part.

Iceland for the win.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 14, 2021 4:12 AM |
Russia is not European. %77 of Russia is in Asia.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 14, 2021 4:13 AM |
I've had excellent meals from each of the cuisines noted, OP, you ignorant dolt.
Are you as stupid as you appear here at the DL in everything you post?
Thought so.

Aren't you just as sweet as sugar, r8? We could all just mix you up with whipped cream and eat you for dessert!

The further north you get, the worse the food is.

The question is "Which European country has the WORST cuisine overall". If true English cuisine is "disgusting", doesn't that answer the question?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 14, 2021 4:26 AM |
English cuisine isn't disgusting. They're an island nation with a decent growing season and good soil.
Want shit food? Go to Mongolia, Northern Canada, etc. They can't grow fuck all there so their food sucks shit.

Traditional English food is pretty grim, but they're good with desserts. Russian food is bit on the heavy side. German food is redeemed by the pastries and cakes.

R16 Puddings.
We're good with puddings. Desserts are foreign muck. I love to sit down to a nice moist Spotted Dick occasionally.

To or on, R17?

Then do I have a treat for you, r17!
Incidentally, just how old are you?

R18 Both!
R19 I'm way over you minimum height threshold, but can I tempt you with some Jam Roly Poly?

Mmm, I just remembered how much I love Strawberry Fool desserts in England. Maybe I will try to make one soon.

Sweden was bland and gross.
Poland was quite good and hearty.

I'm surprised so many people dislike Russian food. Classic 19th century Russian cuisine was one of the glories of its period and things like smoked fish, caviar, the breads and cakes, etc., are all very good.
I love Polish food as well.
British food can be delicious, but they still seem not to know what to do with vegetables. And British food suffers mightily from what the British themselves call it. In France, dishes have lovely evocative names. In Britain it's always "toad in the hole" or "bubble and squeak" or "floating island" or "Eton mess" or "something that actually tastes perfectly nice but looks as if someone squatted over your plate and took an enormous greasy shit".

I made a nice cottage pie last week. I was amazed how tasty it was! I want to try to make shepherds pie but cannot find ground lamb.

Fortunately, all of these places have fine restaurants serving cuisine from somewhere else.
Especially Norway. Thank God.

Full English breakfast is delicious (aka fry up), although hold the black pudding. I love short ribs/yorkshire pudding, cottage pie, sunday roast. Their desserts are pretty good, but i agree with the poster above, they have ridiculous sounding names.
Did anyone go to the link for Icelandic food?! One of their popular offerings is boiled lamb's head. Seriously. An entire boiled lamb's head. The other pics of the "food" is disgusting. Plus they eat so much fish/seafood that i probably couldn't stay there longer than a few days and would have to bring my own food or starve. That said, i really do want to visit Iceland - it looks other-worldly.

I don’t get the hate for Ukrainian food. It has a good climate so traditional Ukrainian food tends to be vegetarian. The variety of soups is outstanding. The inly thing that could be better is the use of spices. Most Ukrainian foods don’t use a variety of spices.

I have to report, that following reading this thread, I did actually make spotted dick for pudding today and it was delicious!
Took hours to steam, but was moist and flavoursome on a cold Sunday.

Clearly the cold war is still raging among the elders on this thread.
Russian food is extraordinary.

I can find something to eat wherever I’ve traveled. Not everywhere of course but I’ve been exposed to some interesting dishes. I may not have loved them all, but it is generally a good way to make a friend.
My question: how do you refuse a traditional or national dish? I wouldn’t want to be a bad guest but the boiled sheep’s head is something I could not eat. I’m sure there are other things. I like offal usually, but that is a no-go.

Meant that to mean I haven't traveled everywhere of course. Didn't mean to contradict my own first sentence.

It's Iceland. And it isn't even close.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 14, 2021 11:40 PM |
Another vote for Iceland....forgettable, expensive food but an other-worldly country.

R31 I have family in Tanzania and I've eaten some interesting food there. I couldn't decline out of politeness.

Iceland? How double dare you???
What’s not to love about hakarl? It’s the flesh of the Greenland shark, the oldest living animal on earth (600+ years). This shark has a very slow metabolism and lives in extremely cold water, so to provide itself with natural antifreeze it retains its urine in its muscle tissue.
I know, your mouth is watering already, right?
Desperate to eat anything, the first Icelandic colonists killed and ate these, but then got sick or even died because of the toxic level of ammonia content. Eventually they figured out that if you buried the carcass for a very long time, it was no longer that toxic.
Yum!
It was long a staple of Icelandic cuisine. It smells faintly like piss and tastes like a waxy stinky cheese and was often consumed with an equally awful Icelandic liquor. These days it’s only eaten by very old-fashioned older folks, and tourists (like I was). It’s greatly derided by younger, hipper people, who become angry and embarrassed when you associate it with Iceland, but I didn’t think it was all bad to be honest.
Then again, I can knock back a glass of piss with the best of them!

The Greenland shark. These fuckers are big and ugly.
They carbon dated one of them and estimated it was an adult when Columbus discovered America.
