My name is Bond. Fey Bond.

Not any more, R7.
And he doesn't have a weak chin.

Softer than bubble wrap.

I love that Nicholas doesn't have a problem baring his nakedness at all!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 12, 2021 3:00 PM |
R8, fey is exactly what came to my mind as well.
He's pretty but not very masculine. Even his body looks too soft. I guess his strength will be in his mind and intellect. And his pinkie finger uplifted as he drinks tea.
Oh I am so going to hell for my beastly stereotyping.

Twink James Bond...looks like a girly man

Nicholas Hoult comes across as a boy. James Bond is a man.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 12, 2021 3:47 PM |
Yeah I don’t see James Bond in his future. He seems too young and I don’t buy him as particularly bright or savvy. He’s pretty though, for sure. They could make him bonds lover. That could be good.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 12, 2021 5:02 PM |
[quote] There may be plenty of gay men at Data Lounge who like this sort of man, but probably very few women.
Not true.
He would totally appeal to Millennial women and GenZ'ers, as well.
That's what the studios are looking for, in trying to sell Bond to a new generation. Nick fits the bill.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 12, 2021 5:04 PM |
OMG, who's that at r20??
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 12, 2021 8:00 PM |
Hoult is the same age Sean Connery was when he [Connery] first played Bond.
He's not "too young" at all.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 12, 2021 8:17 PM |
No thanks. He’s a bit too arch, too pretty. He doesn’t project gravitas of any kind.

Nick is 100x better looking than Connery.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 12, 2021 9:26 PM |
Isn't he (Nicholas) just one of many contenders for the role? I really don't see him having the air of effortless sophistication and swagger that James Bond needs to have.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 12, 2021 9:29 PM |
Whoever plays Bond in the 2020s need to plausible as a tech nerd - since that's how so much terrorism is carried out these days.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 12, 2021 9:30 PM |
Hoult can do it all, R29.
One of the few of his generation who can, actually.
Just look at his body of work so far.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 12, 2021 9:37 PM |
I may be going out on a limb here, but I do not believe that the next Bond will be all Caucasian. I don't think they go that far to make Bond female. But I wouldn't be surprised if the next Bond is half-black, half-Indian or something to that effect as long as the actor is born in the UK and has some British accent.
Slightly off topic: If I was the producer of the Bond franchise, I would get a new Bond now, film the next movie and sell it as a double feature next year along with the last Craig movie. At this point I am not even interested in the last Craig-Bond anymore. I feel like he is old news already. Connecting his movie as a starting point to the next movie might be a good way to raise interest again. Not sure that can be done; depends on the story of course.

But Bond IS a white guy.
If they want to use a character of a different ethnicity, then create a different CHARACTER, FFS!!!
I am so over this pc ridiculousness.

Make James Bond bisexual. Have him bed a Bond Boy. Make him bottom too. Fuck it, he's slept with all sorts of women, if he is going to sleep with a guy, make it count.

He's not in the least bit effeminate.

Yeah sorry but he is. Pouty lips and naturally arched brows give him a fey look. He’s a good looking man but he doesn’t read as the most masculine of actors out there.

It's excellent. If you've seen THE FAVOURITE and enjoyed it, you'd like THE GREAT. Albeit it's funnier and Hoult's character is more comedic than the role he had in THE FAVOURITE he's just as acerbic.

R33, Sean Connery was quite different from Bond as conceived by Ian Fleming....but I don't see you bitching about that.
These aren't done as period films, they are set in modern times, so I don't know why they can't change with the times

So many of these old queens just keep bitching and moaning because we're not living exactly as it was 50 or 60 years ago.
Time to MOVE ON, Grandma!

r33, Bond wasn't blond either. People got over this fundamental re-writing of the Bond character.

Why is it that people who complain about bitching and moaning do not realize they are also bitching and moaning?
Also: r46, you're an idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 12, 2021 11:24 PM |
Didn't Ian Flemming say out of all the Bonds he preferred Roger Moore's portrayal? That'd mean Hoult isn't too far away from what Flemming liked.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 12, 2021 11:25 PM |
Ian Fleming originally wanted David Niven....Bond was intended to be slim, not pumped-up and muscular

I usually cringe, too, when adaptions change too many features of the original material, often to a point where characters and stories become unrecognizable. But with the Bond franchise I am much more lenient. First, Fleming's books are OK. They are not underappreciated art. Second, no Bond movie has been a one-to-one adaption of the books. In the beginning they tried to stay somewhat true to the material, but even then they made adjustments where they deemed necessary. And as far as I know Fleming made his piece with it very early. And at some point, the movies just took key elements of a story and made up something completely new. So 'a new Bond not as designed by Fleming' is a moot point in my opinion. That ship has sailed a long time ago. And people have been OK with it.

Was he ambiguously gay in the books, and not the ladies man he was made out to be in the movies?

He’d fucking bruise like a peach rehearsing that first action sequence.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | February 13, 2021 3:25 PM |
The James Bond of the Fleming books labors under a mountain of bureaucratic paperwork and boring routine. The Queen Anne silver was something of an escape: the sculpted tea pots, sugar pots etc.

R71 New DL fave Nicolas Fairford can play the housekeeper.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | February 13, 2021 7:16 PM |
I like Hoult but he doesn't have a drop of menace in his whole body, and that's a quality I think is very necessary for Bond. They were on to something when they cast him as the romantic lead in that zombie love story movie—even while eating Dave Franco's brain he's sympathetic and unthreatening!
by Anonymous | reply 77 | February 13, 2021 11:18 PM |

I would, r83. I'd do him for sure. Everybody here in this thread probably would wanna fuck him. But I still think other actors are more suitable for the role of James Bond. Has nothing to do with good looks or acting skills. He is just not the right type for the part - in my humble opinion.

He has always gone for edgier roles, and that has served him well.

I don't know where you people are getting this from.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | February 19, 2021 9:24 PM |
Nick is too young and gentle looking. Bond is supposed to be rugged and handsome. Its the same issue they are having trying to convince us that Robert Pattinson can be Bruce/Batman.
Sean Connery was the best Bond. Yes, he was young when he took the role but he was rugged. Maybe because he smoked and drank which probably aged him.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | April 13, 2021 1:25 AM |
In the books Bond is a somewhat fussy bachelor who lives in a 'flat' on King's Road with his Queen Anne silver and housekeeper. IRL Fleming had an apartment on the embankment not far away off Cheyne Walk. Nic Hoult would fit right in.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | April 13, 2021 1:34 AM |
I like him, but He's a little wooden. Plus, Bond oozes sexual energy, Hoult doesn't. They should've gone with an unknown.
It feels like, by casting Hoult, were getting "Baby Bond". It's probably going to be an origin story.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | April 13, 2021 1:36 AM |
Hoult is good at playing cold, passive and stoic like he did in Skins and Warm Bodies. I can't picture him playing someone as proactive and energetic as Bond plus he isn't really charming or seductive as the character has been portrayed in film for over half-a-century. An unknown would work better or the much fan-demanded Idris Elba. If they are attempting to do a more faithful book adaptation and make Bond more of a fussy bachelor then it would be very risky and it could alienate fans.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | April 13, 2021 1:46 AM |
