Is there a way to tell if you're on the same power grid as the hospital?

I live down the street, within walking distance, of a major hospital. Is it likely that my house is on the same power grid? It's gonna snow and possibly get freezing rain and I'm freaking out about losing power. I heard power companies get power restored to hospitals first.

Even if you are not on the same grid (and you probably are) I’d think your street would be high priority due to needed street lights for cars and ambulances. Stay safe!

Yes, my apt bldg was in the same grid as two big clinics. When we lost power due to storms or hurricanes, our power was restored pronto.

Are you the same side as the hospital? Even if you are, do you have to cross a street to get to it? No telling how the power lines are wired where you are till it happens.

If you're having frequent power outages, you might consider a backup generator, which hospitals also have. I bought this home rated Generac and haven't regretted it.

I also have one of these Duracell battery backup/inverter units.

R4, thank you for the link to that Duracell PowerSource, I am going to order one to be on the safe side for the next time this happens. I bought this house almost a year ago and I haven't lost power once, but I am worried about this ice that is coming.

R6, RE: the Duracell unit, the battery backup time is 6-8 hours time on a refrigerator, about 30 minutes run time for a 800W microwave, with most devices somewhere in between. I have also 100W solar panel used as a recharge source in addition to the regular house power (when it's on), so you could extend the run time considerably during an outage. Switching to backup power is automatic.
