I figured that was coming after his outburst & suspension. I really liked him. He had big shoes to fill on that Weekend Morning show (which was its own beast) and I think he did it about as well as anyone could have. The rumor I've read is that Lynette Romero was lured away by KNBC offering her the weekday "Today in L.A." anchor chair (before the TODAY show at 7am). If they were smart, KNBC would go grab Mester, too. And put the two of them up against the weekday early-morning KTLA crew. KTLA viewers are NOT happy about the way they've been treated.

Used to be hot for Mester when he was new to LA/KTLA, and my family was moving back to NorCal. He has had so much work done on his his face he is unrecognizable! Jaysus. I remember he was a surfer, and spent time in Humboldt County, and he seemed kind of awkward, but cool. . I cannot accept he is a Trumptard without proof. Smh. I’m also sad Lynette Romero left. R38: She was offered a better opportunity by another station (weekday morning anchor vs. weekend morning anchor) and she took it. No one has a problem with that.

The problem was the cold way KTLA announced her departure (after 24 years), and that she wasn't given an opportunity to appear on the weekend show one last time, to say "farewell" to the audience which she had helped to cultivate. There was no "thanks for the memories" clip-package/highlights, etc. as usually happens with longtime, Emmy-winning reporters/anchors who leave. It was just: "Lynette Romero doesn't work here anymore. Effective immediately." (she wasn't even allowed to clear out her cubicle/work space; someone else did it). It pissed off a lot of people, not just Mark Mester.

Agreed. Extremely bad style from the corporation to handle this matter. OTOH, Mester's outburst on screen is probably the type of scenario they tried to prevent from happening when they didn't let Romero go back on screen. There must have been more to the story. When you have somebody else clean out an employee's desk, it screams 'involuntary termination'.

In one respect you don’t see a lot of people being supportive of others like this these days. So it’s nice that not everyone is a phony, backstabbing shrew. However, I was getting the impression maybe the two had something going on. He seemed a little overboard, assuming he did the plane banner.

Doubtful there was a romantic relationship. If there is any ulterior motive, it was him getting out of his contract with KTLA. Talk about scraping the barrel in the LA market! Unlike the ABC, Fox, CBS, and NBC affiliates, KTLA doesn’t have that direct promotion pipeline to national news. I think he’ll be on one of the other affiliates by the end of the year.
