Another OP who can't be bothered to link a picture.

He’s the second non-white Superman after Dean Cain.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 21, 2021 7:36 PM |
Disagree.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 21, 2021 7:38 PM |
Tyler Hoechlin played Tom Hanks son in Road to Perdition. Cute kid, cried a bit.
Now, he's kind of a pointy featured guy to be an ideal Superman, but it's the body that counts. He's lean and muscled. Not ideal, but hot. And he's a much better actor than Bomer or that Cavill mess.
Dean Cain was the one who best looks like my idea of Superman. He's hated, but he was sexy and fun. Chris Reeves nose job kind of ruined his face, in every part. I don't think he was remotely good looking.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 21, 2021 7:40 PM |
How can he be wrong? He's tall enough, handsome, well built, has dark brown (nearly black) hair, and a strong jawline. To me he's pretty perfect. for the role.
Unlike Batman, Superman is not a complex character. He's a very, very good and humble person. That's about it.

Guess you never heard of a little show called Teen Wolf?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 21, 2021 7:43 PM |
Why the fuck would I watch Teen Wolf? Hoechlin's performance in Road to Perdition is much more noteworthy. You must have some illegal proclivities, R6.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 21, 2021 7:47 PM |
I liked him in Teen Wolf but he was TERRIBLE in that awful Katee Sackhoff scifi show Another Life. He was so unconvincing that for a second I felt sorry for him until I started disliking him for not taking the role seriously enough to hire a coach. He's apparently ok with a right director but totally lost when left to his own devices.
R7, Hoechlin wasn't very teen-y in Teen Wolf, he was more like 25. Other characters felt more late teens than mid-teens as well.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 21, 2021 7:58 PM |
The only really young actors in TW were Dylan Sprayberry, and the kids playing young versions of the older characters.

What about the guy who played Levi Johnson (I mean, Rock Hudson) in Ryan Murphy's "Hollywood"?

R12 He's no Rock Hudson.

Handsome man, though he must be lonely. I can't find any reference to him dating any women - or maybe I wasn't trying hard enough. Perhaps he is "too busy" for dating. Wouldn't be surprised if he found a nice Asian woman to be his wife.

Tyler is generic and boring. Doesn't matter how square your jaw (his isn't) or muscled the body if you can't build some character out of the cutout. Hoechlin is the least attractive iteration of Superman in my eyes, because he's just a guy in a bodysuit. And that's kind of the thing about Superman. Most of them are. Give us a good ASS if that's all you got. What made Reeves so good in the part was how he changed his 6'4 230 lbs of muscle into a slouching, timid and interesting Clark Kent. He was a real actor. His Clark Kent was the secret sex bomb. Superman was just his job. Reeves portrayal was very sophisticated. The rest of them just put on nerd glasses and a suit. Dean Cain had a bit of humor and sex about his portrayal too. But without some wit and subversiveness there is no more dull character in the world than Superman. Tyler Hoechlin is more gremlin than superman. And he fails at being Clark Kent, which should be the most creative part of the gig.

Hoechlin only appeared butch in Teen Wolf because he was cast opposite every little bottom twink I could lay my hands on.
He's lean and muscled. Not ideal, but hot. And he's a much better actor than Bomer or that Cavill mess.
I'd say they're at the same level?? And he could be bulkier. The suit still looks bad on him because of the padding.
The only really young actors in TW were Dylan Sprayberry
Who played a young Clark Kent in MOS.
I can't find any reference to him dating any women
Brittany Snow was his most notable. She went on to marry his clone. I'm still confused by the Jill Wagner connection though.

So is Superman. And Gremlin really?? I think you're expecting too much from a CW show.

Casted
Miscasted

Awful casting choice for Superman. But he is hot though. He was at his peak hotness in Season 3 of Teen Wolf though.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 22, 2021 10:00 AM |
I agree. I don't think he looks like Superman AT ALL and the actor playing Lois looks about 10 years holder than Hoechlin. To me, Cavill is the gold standard when it comes to looking like Kal-EL. I mean...that was a major score on the DCU's part.
They should've gone with a more Cavill-esque looking actor for the TV part. Hoechlin is both hot AND odd-looking at the same time.

The writer who got fired wanted to make the Kents black. But I'm not sure what the point would be since they're both dead.

Well, that doesn't make any sense.
Superman has been drawn by multiple artists in multiple different ways since he premiered in 1938. There is no single way Kal-El appears, other than to have dark hair (usually with a spit curl), a square jaw, and a handsome face.

by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 23, 2021 4:16 AM |
George Reeves and Christopher Reeve both have much, much better claims to the title of "the ONLY true Clark/Superman" than Tom Welling.
Even Dean Cain does, if you're talking about living actors.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 23, 2021 4:17 AM |
Christopher Reeve had that terrible accident making Superman V when he fell from the wires and broke his neck. He died a few years later, never to speak again. The part is cursed.
Dean Cain does porn now. That ASS is super.
Never heard of George Reeves but I don't like country music. Tyler Hobgobblin just ain't it. Tom Welling lived up to his name.

Tyler's version of Clark Kent is actually my all-time favorite. He plays him confident, good-humored, and capable. There have only been a couple of moments where he was convincing as Superman in the suit though (something Cavill excels at). Most of the time in his guest appearances he's seemed more like someone going to a Halloween party [italic]dressed as[/italic] Superman.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 23, 2021 5:19 AM |
R53 George Reeves played Superman on TV from 1952-1958, it was in syndication for decades. A lot of kids grew up with his as Superman and loved the show. He also appeared as Superman in an I Love Lucy episode. There was a movie made about part of his life and death with Ben Affleck.
Also Christopher Reeve was paralyzed in a competition when his horse made a refusal and he fell forward off the horse. He was paralyzed from the neck down, but he did learn to talk again and appeared on the Academy Awards and in a remake of Rear Window.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 23, 2021 5:24 AM |

Sooo, we’re going to pretend like there are NO similarities between all of the actors who have been CAST in this role? We’re not talking about different artists’ interpretations here. You’re being a contrarian. The movie industry CLEARLY sees Reeves as the archetype.
But you knew that already...

I couldn't agree more.
He's great, but he's not Superman.
It was so noticeable in his scenes with Brandon Routh and Tom Welling in Crisis.
I'd have hired Brandon to play Superman. I thought when he was canned as Atom (I'm a huge fan, but that was a miscast) that that's what they had in mind.

R65, to my understanding WB won't let their DC TV and movie worlds mix, or at least they didn't since there's been some minor cross pollination recently. However there's no way Hoechlin would've ever been Superman in the movies and Routh jumping from movies to tv just doesn't sound realistic.

They had Grant share a scene with Ezra in Crisis. And i think Hoechlin auditioned for Batman back when BvS was casting.
