Closet case.

by Anonymousreply 3January 10, 2021 7:45 AM

The woman responsible for the most boring soundtrack of all time.

by Anonymousreply 4January 10, 2021 8:50 AM

Shrill, sanctimonious shrew.

by Anonymousreply 5February 5, 2021 4:39 AM

I like her.

by Anonymousreply 6February 5, 2021 4:41 AM

Shrill Commie

by Anonymousreply 7March 30, 2021 2:44 AM

I thought the bitch was older than that!

by Anonymousreply 8March 30, 2021 2:47 AM

She was cute in her 20s and 30s.

by Anonymousreply 9March 30, 2021 2:51 AM

Female artist number 6,523 from the 60s that Joni Mitchell hated.

by Anonymousreply 10March 30, 2021 3:04 AM

Her entire career is based on her once having gone out on a date with Bob Dylan, back in the ‘60s.

by Anonymousreply 11March 30, 2021 3:06 AM

Completely up her own ass. Vapid, rude cunt. Not a good look on anyone, but it's really bad when you're 80 and still think you are a pwetty wittle pwincess and should be treated as such.

She lives near where I am and I see her floating around town every so often. She is one of those, "recognize me, but don't recognize me, but you better recognize me" types.

by Anonymousreply 12March 30, 2021 3:18 AM

Big lesbo who dines regularly with the gals downtown Palo Alto and Woodside.

Bet she knows Condi Rice despite political differences

by Anonymousreply 13March 30, 2021 3:20 AM

When I was a kid in the 60s my aunt stella always was playing her records.

by Anonymousreply 14March 30, 2021 3:24 AM

When did DL turn into Parler?

by Anonymousreply 15March 30, 2021 3:30 AM

January 9th is huh burffday.

by Anonymousreply 16March 30, 2021 3:31 AM

I liked her until I saw her American Masters bio. Smug, smug, SMUG.

by Anonymousreply 17March 30, 2021 3:52 PM

I know Joan and can say that she is one of the most genuine people I've ever met in my life. A lovely, gracious, and kind woman -- tortured by demons, perhaps, and spending a lot of time in the past, but that doesn't make her different from most of us. Again, a wonderful woman.

by Anonymousreply 18March 30, 2021 4:18 PM

r11, what a crock of shit.

by Anonymousreply 19March 30, 2021 4:50 PM

Why hasn't she already been cancelled (along with The Band) for Dixie?

by Anonymousreply 20March 30, 2021 5:13 PM

All she did was manufacture consent. Force of evil in the world, on balance.

by Anonymousreply 21June 28, 2021 1:11 PM

[When did DL turn into Parler?]

JB

by Anonymousreply 22July 6, 2021 8:46 PM

Happy Birthday to you too, shit4brains.

by Anonymousreply 23July 6, 2021 8:56 PM

What was...... that...... OP....... ZzZzZzZz

by Anonymousreply 24July 7, 2021 3:10 AM

She reminds me of Jill Stein.

by Anonymousreply 25July 7, 2021 4:35 AM

Love her

by Anonymousreply 26July 7, 2021 4:36 AM

Her phony vibrato makes my toes curl.

by Anonymousreply 27July 7, 2021 4:42 AM

Love her………………

by Anonymousreply 28July 7, 2021 4:43 AM

My favorite album of hers is De Colores. Beautiful songs.

by Anonymousreply 29July 7, 2021 5:40 AM

This is wonderful.

I agree R27. It's impossible to listen to her singing for more than 30 seconds. Horrible, there's zero artistic value in her interpretive skills. It's lower than basic.

by Anonymousreply 31July 7, 2021 9:12 AM

She's a folk singer, R31, she doesn't need "interpretive skills."

by Anonymousreply 32July 7, 2021 2:17 PM

Regarding her voice and interpretation: in Marianne Faithfull’s autobiography, she wrote about being at a party in the sixties where all the hipsters were having a laugh at Baez’s traditional earnestness and seriousness in her songs. MF was then in her own folk phase, before the full slide into her degenerancy and its glorious aftermath. MF laughed along, but she said that on the inside, when Baez sang in person, she was completely spellbound.

So the split was evident more than fifty years ago. As r32 points out, much of what Baez doesn’t require an interpretation in the same way as more contemporary music, including what we now call standards.

I get that people don’t connect with Baez and more traditional folk. But that doesn’t change that she is a master at what she does.

by Anonymousreply 33July 7, 2021 2:38 PM

Back in the late 60's she was on a talk show hosted by Donald O'Conner - of all people. He was asking her about her music and she was being very uncooperative and rude. She wouldn't say anything without being rude.

Her husband had just been arrested for draft dodging and Joan herself was in hot water about taxes or something (Al Capp had a character in his comic strip "Li'l Abner" named Joanie Phonie).

Finally Joan said snapped at O'Conner: "You got your stupid questions on your little cards, just ask them."

Donald hesitated a moment and the said: "Okay, sister, I'll ask....how does it feel to be up the river?"

Joan walked off......

Sorry about that, Mr. O'Connor.

by Anonymousreply 37July 7, 2021 3:37 PM

Beautiful emotional voice. Great lady. And she extols the virtues of meditation! Love her.

by Anonymousreply 38July 7, 2021 3:47 PM

She turned 80 way back on January 9th - a Capricorn.

by Anonymousreply 39July 7, 2021 3:49 PM

I saw her in concert 4-5 years ago with Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Indigo Girls. It was a great evening of song and stories. You could clearly tell that JB had a huge influence on the women in music who followed her.

by Anonymousreply 40July 7, 2021 4:14 PM

For some reason I got into a loop where I was playing this constantly last year.

Maybe it was the looming specter of [italic]death??

By the way, I got tickets for us to see Joan Baez tonight

Oh? I guess I misunderstood... I never heard of Joan as Police Woman

But I do love me some "Angie Dickinson"

And let's be clear—Joan Baez makes GG Allin look like Charlene Tilton

Some people are just a bit more sophisticated than others.

by Anonymousreply 43July 7, 2021 9:16 PM

I've seen her in concert and the show was far out!

by Anonymousreply 44July 7, 2021 9:41 PM

I love her too.

by Anonymousreply 45July 7, 2021 11:34 PM

She's no Joni Mitchell.

by Anonymousreply 46July 7, 2021 11:36 PM

Joni Mitchell's attitude ruins her music for me. She is THE curmudgeon of the popular music world with a rare good word to say about other artists, ESPECIALLY female ones.

by Anonymousreply 47July 8, 2021 1:14 AM

I love Joan. Her voice is rich and warm and truly soothes me.

by Anonymousreply 48July 8, 2021 1:26 AM

R47 Why do you need her to be nice to other people? How needy. Just listen to her music.

by Anonymousreply 49July 8, 2021 1:33 AM

Al Capp lampooned her in his Joanie Phonie cartoon strips.

Driving old Dixie down--is she talking about Dixie Carter?

Why, that bitch.

by Anonymousreply 50July 8, 2021 1:39 AM

I like some of her music but she's a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 51July 8, 2021 2:00 AM

Some of her work is oddly flexible.

(not to mention Jewel ripped off some of the melodic lines here for “Foolish Games”)

She's the female version of Bob Dylan - except that she has a better voice, so warm and emotional. Fights for social causes including the gays. Love her and her voice!

by Anonymousreply 53July 8, 2021 4:26 AM

Love Baez, saw her in concert about 15 years ago in Seattle. All of her Dylan covers are great, especially this one.

She fucked Dylan, MLK, and Steve Jobs, who else?

by Anonymousreply 55July 8, 2021 4:59 AM

Interesting she’s singing a song about the Stuarts on a London stage.

Full circle : )

Are we not going to talk about Joan's a lesbian but calls herself bi?

by Anonymousreply 57July 8, 2021 1:11 PM

She's a nag, a hag and a skank old bag

by Anonymousreply 58July 8, 2021 3:55 PM

^ and she used to regularly have sex with women

by Anonymousreply 59July 9, 2021 1:44 AM

So what?

by Anonymousreply 60July 9, 2021 3:46 AM

JB may have made the right noises about gay right but she HATES gay men categorically.

by Anonymousreply 61July 29, 2021 4:23 AM
