R14 I LOVE her in Less Than Zero but she has two awful line-readings my friends still make fun of to this day. "You look pale and great" and "I'm gonna miss him so much!". People didn't think she was pretty enough to play Blair but I thought she looked lovely.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 29, 2020 2:46 AM |
I also liked her in Less Than Zero. She was in a number of films in the '80s, usually as the girlfriend: Crossroads, Quicksilver, Less Than Zero, The Lost Boys, Listen to Me, Solarbabies.

From the linked article: When Marlo Thomas comes for Passover
"Even those who have grown up rich and famous in L.A. tend to be startled by the level of wealth on display at the Resslers' parties. "I was doing an episode of Ally McBeal with Marlo Thomas," Gertz recalls, "and I wanted to get home because I was having 70 people over for Passover."
Gertz invited Thomas to the Seder only to see her jaw drop when Thomas arrived at something closer to a state dinner. "She was just so stunned to come into this home," says Gertz. "She knew me as this actress playing her daughter. She had no idea I had this whole other side to my life."

Twisted was bad even in 1996. The cheesy dialogue between Bill Paxton and Helen Cunt, Jami acting as if she was in a different movie, the flying cow, Cary Elwes chewing the scenery. Horrible movie.

Everyone, including Bret Easton Ellis, says that she was horribly miscast as Blair because in the book Blair IS blond and tan which are her defining traits. Gertz is corpse white in the film and she tells McCarthy he needs a tan? Also, Blair's character played the LA game but ultimately knew it was all a scam, she was a tough girl. Gertz was a nervous, jittery coked out JAP in the film (which yes, is probably more true to life to what a real BH girl is like), and there was no sexual chemistry with Andrew McCarthy. McCarthy was on BEE's podcast and said she was the wrongly casted because she brought no sexual passion and Blair is walking sex.

In the youtube interviews at r4 and r6, it's obvious, and to her credit, Gertz has that classic, rich woman, understated elegance down pat - the long-sleeved turtleneck in the subdued color, the gorgeous necklace adding just the right hint of former-actor eccentricity and, of course, that most elusive of older woman hairstyles: a contemporary, standard hair bob, cut so it that escapes looking old-fashioned.
Perfect.
And to study what Gertz is wearing in those videos is to see a lesson that should be learned by more aging women in show business ( looking at you Jennifer Lopez) that is being fully covered actually can achieve for you a more younger, fresher appearance.
Yes, Lopez and Gertz are apples and oranges in what type of performers they were and are. Still, I recall my favorite look of Lopez is when she wore a gown to the Oscars where she didn't reveal her body, she was covered and she actually looked younger than when she's revealing everything.

It's interesting that Jami's compared upthread to her old costar, Sarah Jessica Parker. They're of similar age and background, but SJP is speculated to be worth about $150 million, a mere fraction of Jami's worth. And SJP has been the bigger breadwinner in her household than Matthew Broderick for some time now, despite his history in film and theatre.
SJP hustles a lot--a LOT--endorsing perfume, shoes, clothes, the GAP back in the day--and seems to constantly be working. So while $150 million is nothing to sneeze at, it's not a vast fortune compared to other celebs. I've read that she's very financially savvy and preoccupied with money, so I wonder if it bugs her.

Watching the Jami interviews from the Square Pegs now (and thanks to whoever linked them upthread). She seems nice and down to earth, still the middle-class Jewish girl from Middle America (even as a billionaire). She mentions being close to SJP several times but always "back then," suggesting that they are close no longer and haven't been for years.
Does SJP have any long-lasting friendships with other women? I know she's got her coterie of gay men (Andy Cohen, John Benjamin Hickey, Isaac Mizrahi) but I almost never hear about female friends. And no, I don't believe she's actually close to the others from SATC, not for a moment.

I know her socially. Lovely person. Gracious and an impeccable hostess. Never flaunts it. Totally genuine. The boys are all total mensch’s. She raised them right. A doll.

SJP is a textbook fag hag. I doubt she has one woman friend.
Same with Kelly Ripped one.

[quote]Not to brag but Marlo is also the proud holder of the title "The Queen Bitch of Park Avenue".
But *I* am Queen Bitch Emerita.

Anyone who claims to be friendly with John Benjamin Hickey is to be distrusted and treated with extreme caution.

Jamis isn't wealthy, her husband is. Until she brings something to the table, that isn't her money!

I liked her appearance on This is Us. I was hoping that she would have an ongoing recurring role. She made scenes with Chrissy Metz interesting for once.

Dear r152,
You seem to be unfamiliar with US law and/or the post at r138.
Try again.
Love, Jami

I know Still Standing is a dumb sitcom, but it is funny when stoned, and Brian the son was hot

For the umpteenth time, her husband was not that wealthy when they married in 1989. Any capital the marriage accumulated since then belongs to both of them, especially since a) an investment banker can capitalize on a rich and famous wife and 2) she was an active participant in the purchase, management and investment of the Atlanta Hawks. That said, she’s not nearly one of the richest women in America.

They have a bird sanctuary in Georgia? How does that make them money?
by Anonymous | reply 159 | December 30, 2020 4:55 AM |
My cousin’s friend who is a stylist to ALL the big names in bird sanctuaries says that friends close to Ms Summers suggested she import a family of guest workers just so her family could hunt, shoot, kill, and murder them. It’s what rich and famous people do. Then, they buy an acquittal.

I loved THE NEIGHBORS. The whole bit about the aliens adopting the names of famous athletes cracked me up to no end. Larry Bird, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Reggie Jackson (a teen Asian actor) & Dick Butkus (little kid) were all one alien family. And other aliens in the neighborhood were named Mary Lou Retton, Billie-Jean King, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, etc. IIRC the explanation was.....having picked up U.S. television/radio transmissions over years, the aliens assumed these to be very common, popular names in America (like John Smith) that would not stand out.
