Wow, he aged nicely.
Particularly so for a blonde who worked outdoors. Good genes and maybe good sunscreen.

I agree.

If only he had lips.

McEnroe, Connors, and Mats Wilander have all aged nicely too. My favorite then was Stefan Edberg. He looks amazing now at 54.

Borg is the stupidest great of all time.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 25, 2020 11:57 PM |
Surely he has enough money to buy a decent tie and shirt though.

Borg makes some great underwear, too. I bought mine on Amazon. Very happy with the purchase.
I'd rather have Bjorn's name on my underwear than Tammy Hilfiger or Calvina Klein.

Lendl aged pretty poorly. Wilander, McEnroe, Edberg, as has been mentioned, aged very well.
Becker was okay for a quite while, but seems to be recently going off the rails with his money woes and everything.
This is from 2019.
Note: As of today Mcenroe is 61, Lendl 60, Wilander 56 and Becker 53

[quote] Borg is the stupidest great of all time.
In what ways?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 26, 2020 12:11 AM |
I'm not the one who said he was stupidest, but I remember he was pretty bad with his money at one point and made some stupid investments - maybe that's what the poster was thinking of. There might have been marriage drama too.
Trying to return to the tour in the 90s using wood racquets after being away for years was pretty stupid - but I don't think that's what the poster is referring too.

He was bjorn with some damn good jeans!

Celebrity Net Worth, which I never know whether to believe, pegs him at $40M. While not in the ranks of current sport superstars, he didn’t do too badly.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 26, 2020 12:53 AM |
Not only was he a great player, he was a likable one. He never lost his temper and screamed and made an ass of himself like so many tennis players do.

God, I was in love with him 30 years ago. He aged very well.

Boris is the dumbest cunt if them all. The list of stupid money investments is endless...

A teenaged Borg.
His Stockholm accent is so thick here, it's very funny to me. He pronounces the letter Ä as E among other distinctive linguistic things.

In the late 70s, he was playing team tennis and was living in a condo just outside Cleveland. I worked for the realty company (owned by a friend's father-in-law) and one of our jobs was to go to Borg's condo in the morning and bang on his door. He was notorious for sleeping in and almost missing training/matches and asked us to do this! Very nice guy; legs that went on forever.....

R18 Here I thought I spoke the King's Swedish!
Not many people know that I speak Swedish, let alone that I grew up near Stockholm. One day at work, a group of Swedish and Swedish-speaking Finns were on a tour. They landed in my office for a few minutes.
One of them was trying to remember an English word and asked, in Swedish, "Hur säger man –– på engelska?" and another guy in their group and I answered simultaneously. That lead to a conversation in Swedish. Afterward they told me that I have a very strong Stockholm accent, especially noticeable because of the pronunciation of Ä as E.
I had forgotten about that until you mentioned it. What else signifies a Stockholm accent?

I remember reading that at his peak, he was in such good cardiovascular shape that his resting heart rate was less than 40 bpm.

Men always look better when they cut their hair. Why do some of them insist on long hair especially since most of the time men's hair is rather stringy when it's long? See Michael Bolton for another example. Kenny G needs a fucking haircut. It's the rare head of hair on a man that looks good long.

Borg was not a natural blonde, boys.

Is a Stockholm accent looked down upon in Sweden like a Southern accent is in the United States? Often the accent of the capital is considered the standard pronunciation.

Borg looks as orange as the one term loser.

R20 It's mainly the rhythm or cadence and how the words 'bounce' in a way, it's not as clean-sounding as 'rikssvenska'.
R23 Not at all, there are different types of Stockholm accents and Borg has the working class type (typical for south parts of Stockholm). It's just that his accent is so thick and his pronunciation of Ä (should usually sound like ai in [italic]hair[/italic] or [italic]air[/italic]) is more of a nasally E. Most Stockholm natives have more of a proper standard Swedish 'rikssvenska' that you usually hear on TV/radio, etc.
The snooty sounding Stockholm accent that is spoken mainly by rich people is what you hear in wealthy areas like Östermalm, Danderyd/Djursholm, Lidingö, etc. Borg sounds more like a 1970s factory worker in that clip R18.
Swedish is a pitch-accent language:
[quote]In Swedish, the difference between accent 1 and accent 2 can only be heard in words of two or more syllables, since the tones take two syllables to be realised. In the central Swedish dialect of Stockholm, accent 1 is an LHL contour and accent 2 is an HLHL contour, with the second peak in the second syllable.

McEnroe was and is a fugly, hideous troll. Connors looks like a Trump-voting deplorable great-uncle who bores the family with his conspiracy theories during family gatherings.
Borg and Edberg have aged well. I still have the hots for Wilander. He looks much more handsome in his fifties than he did in his twenties. Peter Fleming also looks good.
It's a pity Tim Mayotte didn't age well. I used to think he was quite handsome and sexy back in his playing days.

R26, my partner is from Södermalm and has a very pronounced Stockholm accent (a bit like Borg in that clip actually). We moved back to Sweden and it is fun to hear all of the differing regional accents - Norrland has been the easiest for me to follow.
