Why does Kushner Sr need a pardon if he's already out of prison?

[quote] Why does Kushner Sr need a pardon if he's already out of prison?
So he is no longer a convicted felon and all the problems that come with being that and when Trump is handing them out like Halloween candy, why not?

From CNN.com
Charles Kushner, meanwhile, had been prosecuted by then-US Attorney for New Jersey Chris Christie in the early 2000s for tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal campaign contributions.
He eventually pleaded guilty to 16 counts of tax evasion, one count of retaliating against a federal witness -- his brother-in-law -- and another count of lying to the Federal Election Commission.
Christie in early 2019 went on to say that Charles Kushner committed "one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes" he had prosecuted, referring to an elaborate revenge plot that the older Kushner hatched in 2003 in order to target his brother-in-law, William Schulder, a former employee turned witness for federal prosecutors in their case against Kushner.
As a part of the plot, Kushner hired a prostitute to lure Schulder into having sex in a Bridgewater, New Jersey, motel room as a hidden camera rolled.
A tape of the encounter was then sent to Kushner's sister and Schulder's wife, Esther. Ultimately, the intimidation stunt failed. The Schulders brought the video to prosecutors, who tracked down the woman and threatened her with arrest. She promptly turned on Kushner.

Charles Kushner doesn't look too damn bad for 66 years old. I always thought Jared looked like the type that would age very badly but if he takes after his father, maybe not.

R3, Jared became the nominal head of the Kushner empire after his father's conviction because, as a convicted felon, Charles Kushner couldn't sign for certain kinds of loans.

The presidential pardon is one of hundreds of things about the way our government was set up that makes this country suck now. A criminal president can wave a wand over his criminal associates and in substance they’re all above the law. It pisses me off that they don’t have to abide by the law but if I do the same I’m in prison. It makes the president like a king, and I thought the founding fathers were trying to get away from that. They fucked up with this farce.

Well said R10.

It shows djt doesn't give a shit - I didn't expect some of these pardons until the final days.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 24, 2020 3:07 AM |
Probably depends on if the President was either a recipient or coconspirator of the illegal acts.
(SCOTUS recently ruled Trump’s not above the law), so logically he can’t pardon himself for crimes he commits. Ditto, pardons of coconspirators (for crimes from which he benefits) likely could be challenged and nullified.
OTOH, pardons for crimes unrelated to Trump’s direct benefit (eg Kushner whispering state secrets to MBS in Saudi Arabia) would stand, even if Kushner’s pillow talk led to awful results, such as Kashoggi’s death. So long as Trump were not involved.

Meanwhile this guy spent 30+ years in prison for petty theft

Here's a legal question for our DL scholars: If Charles Kushner is pardoned, does that mean that Chris Christie is no longer bound by any confidentiality agreements signed at the time Kushner agreed to the deal?

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
